The 7 Best Hostels in Rome (Updated 2025)

"Located a 10–15 minute walk from major sites like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Colosseum, this hostel makes it easy to meet people with abundant common space, a pub and beer garden, and organized social areas. Each bed has an individual lamp, USB charger, plug, and shelf; bunks are sturdy with thick mattresses and built-in lockers, and there’s a kitchen for self-catering as well as family-sized private rooms." - Matthew Kepnes

This hostel exceeded my expectations. Staff spoke English, were friendly and quick to accommodate my requests. This hostel was by far the cleanest I've seen. It was conveniently located that you can walk to the majority of the tourist sites. They offered many interesting perks as well, such as dinner made in-house for the guests (on occasion) karaoke nights and different lounging (indoor/outdoor) spaces, including a restaurant/bar onsite and an optional all you can breakfast which boasted a mix of Western and classic European breakfast options. Apart from the hostel itself, guests were respectful and my roommates were very clean to ensure that the room was kept organized for the new guests to feel comfortable in. I'd highly recommend RomeHello.

Great hostel with great staff. I enjoyed the stay here. They offer some cool activities like Pizza/Carbonara cooking courses or city tours. Its not a cheap hostel, but has clean rooms and modern facilities and is located quite central next to Termini station.

Amazing amazing, the best hostel I’ve stayed at. Extremely clean, the rooms and en suite bathrooms were cleaned everyday, shampoo and soap were included in the shower. Very nice receptionists and overall great vibes and atmosphere. Good public areas, kitchen, and activities. Definitely worth the price. Great location near the coliseum and main train station. Met some great people here! Would highly recommend.

Exceptional hostel! All staff extremely helpful and friendly. Very clean, air-conditioning, charging station for every bed (including USB so you don't need an adapter for phones), rooms quiet, social activities every day if you wish. Highly recommend the breakfast as well! I will definitely be returning and telling my friends to visit as well ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I stayed at a hostel that, at first, was really great. I met some amazing people, and Jerry, one of the staff members, was super friendly and helped me with quite a few things. From the very beginning, I honestly felt I was having a great experience. Unfortunately, when it came time to check out, things completely turned around. Earlier in the morning, I had told guy at reception that I’d be running a quick errand and would check out by 11. I came back and since I had met some amazing roommates, I sat in the room with one of them while they were getting ready, as we were planning to go out together once I checked out. My bags were already packed. When I went to check out just after 1, I was suddenly told I needed to pay a €15 late fee. I explained that I wasn’t late, that I had already packed up and was only waiting for my friend. It wasn’t a case of me still sleeping in the room or occupying the bed. Despite this, the receptionist insisted I pay. What made the situation worse was the way he spoke: blunt, rude, and with no sense of customer service or basic manners. He kept pointing to a notice board behind the desk as justification for the fine, but honestly, that board isn’t even visible to guests—how is anyone supposed to know? The whole interaction left a really bad taste in my mouth. It went from being one of the best hostel experiences I’ve had to one of the worst simply because of how poorly the situation was handled. And to top it off, in the end, he simply told me to “just leave,” which left me completely shocked.

Exceeded expectations... highly recommended. I stayed with my family for 2 nights and loved it. The room was spacious and very cozy with great combination of colors. Location is perfect for a tourist, near station and other attractions.

I stayed at The RomeHello for 4 nights at 10-person mixed dorm and I would rate it 10/10! 100% clean, perfect ventilation, enough privacy, comfy beds and lockers and doors that create minimum noise. Big kitchen with all the necessities and a life-saving vending machine with good sandwiches that are the perfect breakfast for people who must leave early for sightseeing. Welcome drink at the bar next door (soft drink or small beer) and 10% off for anything else you order during your stay. Staff was very helpful and nice. This was my first time in a 10-person dorm, but I don't think it can get any better than that.

The experience at RomeHello exceeded my expectations in every possible way. It's clean, well furnished on the inside with a nice courtyard. It's a 5 stars hostel and especially the staff - everyone at reception, breakfast team and late shift at the bar, displayed a 5 stars attitude to create a memorable stay. Big thanks to Jacopo. I am very grateful for this experience. True hospitality!

Yelp
Rooms were very nice including en-suite bathrooms and staff was incredible - very helpful and called a cab for me this morning to the airport. Free drink upon arrival at the nearby pub but only beer or soft drink. I liked the cooking class I went to and it was a great deal for €8. Oddly though only 3 people came - it wasn't a very social hostel which could be a plus or a negative depending on your preference. It was a massive hostel and didn't seem to be at occupancy, and yet in my 4 person dorm the hostel didn't put me with a single woman over two nights. The first night it was 2 men and last night it was myself and 3 men. I'm aware that I booked a mixed dorm but imo hostel staff should try their best to avoid situations where a woman is isolated. This isn't the hostel's fault but one of my roommates was also terribly inconsiderate - letting his alarm ring endlessly in the morning & taking exorbitantly long showers etc. Location was fine, maybe a 15 minute walk or so from anything worth seeing or doing. Would I stay again? Hard to say because I hated Rome lol. Maybe.

Yelp
Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to find the rooms larger than what we expected. The people were very friendly. Everything was very clean. Well, after a long day of roaming around Rome, we settled in for a good nights rest, but didn't get one. The beds are awful. They are hard as a rock. If the beds were comfortable, I would've actually given this place five stars but a hotel is to get a good nights sleep and you can't do that here.

Yelp
Best hostel I have stayed at, honestly felt like a hotel. We got a room with 4 twin beds for only $43 USD per person each night. Very reasonable prices and very comfortable place to stay in a good location accessible by walking and transit. Staff was very friendly and helpful. 5/5!
