I have no idea how we got the worst room in this hotel, but the mattress was awful, with a dip in the middle. We didn't sleep at all. The gate was confusing being bungeed for the owners dogs on the property which had us dragging luggage round the property to find how to enter. We had a curtain for our bathroom door which left no privacy and when we asked for a room with a door on the bathroom we were told it was a $55 upgrade, half the price of the hotel room. It was very old and not in a charming way. Sorry but this was not a great stay. The staff was charging up $50 a night for a service animal which is illegal btw. Rust colored towels were unappealing. We were charged $160 for this room and it was awful! Alfred Hitchcock came to mind. And I'd like to mention there were ample rooms available for us not to stay here. The owner cooked amazing cinnamon rolls but I would not stay here again. Great location btw.

Dang, can’t believe this place is closing according to the owner’s review replies… Thanks for the entertainment on hotel hell! Wish the best of luck and what not. Here’s a five star review.

Amazing place, but sadly closed now. I had the privilege of staying here the last night they were open. Wonderful people ran it for over 25 years.

Stay here for the most idyllic bed and breakfast experience! My partner and I really enjoyed the comfortable accommodations, hot tub, and beautiful Christmas decor—our room even had its own Christmas tree! Our dog loved her complimentary care package and running around the spacious yard with the hosts’ friendly dogs. Breakfast was incredible and made to order. The host’s award-winning huckleberry jam and homemade cinnamon rolls were absolutely divine. This place is a true gem and we would happily stay here again!

Google
There were quite a few people there when I went but I hardly saw anyone. The rooms were quite spacious and the decor was wonderful. I found the beds here to be quite comfortable. The owners were great, I got to speak with the husband on a number of occasions. He made breakfast for us and though I wasn’t a fan of how he folded the scrambled eggs the taste was ok. I quite enjoyed the apple pancakes. Being able to enjoy the hot tub and sauna was wonderful and I’d go back just for that. The number of different hot chocolate and other drinks they had out were impressive. I tried the hazelnut hot chocolate and enjoyed it so much I went back for another cup.

Google
This was a wonderful place to stay. It was easy to walk from there and see the shops and the lake. The service was friendly, they brought cookies, have banana bread available at all hours, and the breakfast was excellent (especially the apple cider pancakes). The rooms are a touch in the small side, but they have great character and are well maintained. The grounds are beautiful. They have a fire pit and tiki torches on the lawn, a water feature, and beautiful big gates.

Google
Loved this Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary getaway. We stayed in the Bell Tower which felt so luxurious with the second story sitting area complete with a Christmas tree and fresh cookies upon our arrival. The personal concierge service was wonderful and booked our cruise tickets and dinner reservations. Breakfast was made to order pancakes with bacon and eggs. The homemade warm cinnamon rolls were a highlight! Such a fun and relaxing experience!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! We booked a room here to celebrate my birthday, and were welcomed with a birthday card and freshly baked cookies in our room ☺️. Beautifully kept, the Innkeeper is a treat, the rooms are cute, quiet, and clean, AND they have a hot tub and sauna. The staff goes above and beyond, and we loved their 24hr fireplace and games area fully outfitted with fresh baked cookies and a coffee/tea bar. Price was beyond reasonable, and breakfast was great. Come for the apple pancakes, stay for the stories about ABBA 😉

Yelp
The owners were very nice and the place was in great shape. I decided to come out and check this hotel since it was featured on Hotel Hell ten years ago. We were pleasantly surprised as we were not staying here and the owners came out and gave us a very nice history lesson on the property. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel and the hospitality was top-notch. Awesome experience and thank you so much! They just got done cleaning the carpets and still took the time to guide us around.

Woody B.

Yelp
I am sorry, but for people looking for a place to stay, 4+ star reviews are misleading. The location is nice, but the decor is dated and dusty. My bed was comfortable, but the carpet stained and the bathroom funky and lacking in counterspace. Gordon Ramsey did a Hotel Hell episode here, and frankly we were shocked at how little appeared to have changed. And as for the "baked fresh every morning" cinnamon rolls...I peeked down in the breakfast area in the evening and everything was already laid out with plastic wrap over the top. The gates to the garden (which is pretty) have both been broken for so long that they just put out signs and bungie-cords, telling guests to secure the gates so their dogs do not get out. Overall, not the worst, but really nothing worth repeating.

Yelp
We liked the friendly inn so much we stopped and stayed a second time. We have decided we will stay here each trip to see our son in the state of Washington. Perfect place to rest and relax. Cozy rooms with comfortable beds and pillows.

Yelp
Wonderful stay at the inn. Beautiful room, gracious hosts, delish bread pudding greeting and the made to order breakfast so tasty!! My daughter loved the Orange Zest Waffle and authentic maple syrup!! Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Charming and quirky would be a good descriptor for this bed and breakfast. We enjoyed many things about this place. We stayed 4 days in the Principals room. It has a king bed with a small separate sitting area. The bed was extremely comfortable and has a wall fireplace that heats the room nicely. The breakfasts were very good! The only thing I would change is either a toaster that can do 4 pieces at a time or another 2 piece toaster. There was a waiting line often for the toast. Loved having the owners 2 dogs on the property, they are so cute. The owners are friendly, the staff are friendly, so no complaints there. 2 things bugged me, our room door stuck so bad that I had to use my hip to open and shut it. And the hot tub had a floating cover on it with leaves floating in the water and all around it (it's inside a separate outdoor room) and just wasn't inviting. I wasn't sure anyone tended to it so I passed on going in. Again, more good than bad and I'd stay again as each room is so different that I'd like to try others. It's also a convenient location.

Yelp
I enjoyed my short 2 night stay at The Roosevelt Inn. The male owner I met was very cordial and hospitable. This place has a good amount of character, which is why I chose it. I appreciate places that aren't the cookie cutter chain hotel types. My room was a single bed queen... relatively small. No tv. No fridge. No microwave. This is not your traditional hotel chain setup. So if that is what you are looking for then look elsewhere. If you want a unique experience with some charm and character, and want to support local people this is a good choice. For my purpose, a single occupant traveling on business, my room was fine. But if I was traveling with a companion, the room wouldn't have been ideal. The bathroom is separated from the main room by only a curtain. No door. So if you're a couple staying in that room you would need to know each other intimately. The rooms aren't soundproof. This is an older building and you can hear the people walking above you and outside your door. So if that would be offensive to you that is something to consider. They provide 24 hour coffee/tea refreshments and I'm pretty sure I remember the owner mentioning a complimentary wine type happy hour with snacks in the early evening but I did not attend. They also have a sauna/hot-tub. I cannot speak to the breakfast part of the stay because I did not have a chance. The first night of my stay the owner had an appointment the next morning that precluded him from making breakfast. So they gave me a gift certificate to an excellent local establishment. The second morning of my stay breakfast was provided by the convention I was attending. All in all I think this is a good place to stay. But if I were looking for a more intimate setting while traveling with a companion I might consider somewhere with more of the traditional hotel setup that keeps you more intimately separated from other guests. Others might see this as a plus. Personnel preference. One thing that I would like to point out is the access to the building. The gates that lead into the yard of the inn do not shut properly. So they must be secured with a bungee cord since there is a dog(s) that roam the yard during the day. This was not an issue for me. But if you are an older individual, say with arthritis or the like, I could see managing the bungee cord as a possible issue. This is worth noting for our physically challenged friends. All in all a nice place with nice people that is worth your patronage

Yelp
Amazing place to stay! The staff is beyond exceptional, they have a "wine" hour 6 days/week with a complimentary glass of any wine and small bites. Beautiful grounds, and of course my husband and I enjoyed their enclosed hot tub. They have regular room service every day, BUT they also have turndown service every night with chocolate truffles on our bed. I haven't seen anything like that in many years. I will no doubt return every time I stay in the area. Downtown is walking distance so convenient in every way. Bonus: extremely dog friendly. The 2 dogs they have on property were so sweet and friendly. That was such a nice touch.

Yelp
Amazing bed and breakfast with 5 star quality. Gracious host and hostess greeted us with warmth and wonderful accommodations. The rooms are decorated with brilliance and elegance is the theme. We stayed during the Christmas season and the place was magical. The breakfast was perfect with a side of magnificence. Starting with fresh fruit, waffles and coffee. Then followed with hot breakfast sandwiches and apple pancakes. We bought the cookbook and staying here next time we are in town. Thanks.....

Terry B.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for only one night...we wish it had been longer. Could not have asked for a better experience....great location...spotlessly clean....delicious breakfast....hosts were friendly and accommodating.... It was really obvious that the employees loved their jobs...they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Will definitely return..

Paula S.

Yelp
This is the place to stay in Coeur d'Alene at Christmas time! The decorating throughout was amazing, we had a full-size Christmas tree in our room and in every room of the hotel! We had delicious fresh baked cookies waiting for us in our room! The staff and owner were so friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and well kept, and I appreciated the good water pressure. The continental breakfast was simple but had everything we needed. I'm sure this inn would be lovely any time of year, but it is very special at Christmas, we'd love to come back next year!

Yelp
We saw their walk in special advertised on their website and decided to check it out and I'm so glad we did! The outside is beautiful, classic old brick building with a huge grassy welcoming lawn all around. Tina and John met us right at the door and made us feel welcome, they showed us the rooms available that night and we went with the Olin. Very clean, bright, nice bathroom with shower and all the amenities, sheets are ridiculously soft! Location was great for walking into downtown and lakeside and we walked to dinner in midtown area. All around wonderful stay with great staff, enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine in garden in late afternoon and they brought us freshly baked cookies at turn down service. Lovely stay!!

Yelp
Read the cancelation policy carefully. I did not get an opportunity to stay at the Roosevelt Inn since my plans changed unexpectedly. With 10 days advance notice I was still charged a full night stay of $169...Ouch! The policy charges you $45 if you are out 14 days. Unless you are really really sure you are going to stay here, don't make a costly mistake that I did with forking over that much money without ever setting foot inside. My own fault for not reading the fine print and choosing a different location.

Yelp
We LOVED our stay here! We stayed at the Roosevelt Inn while on our honeymoon. We brought our dog with us and this was hands down one of the best stays we have had thus far! The breakfast was AMAZING and we couldn't hace asked for a better place to stay with our dog. Their property is fenced, so our dog was able to run around with the owners dog off leash and get some great exercise!

Yelp
So disappointed in this bed and breakfast, the service, and lack of breakfast. We Researched lengthy for a romantic and nice place to stay to celebrate a birthday and early Christmas. We are coming into town for the Coeur d'Alene holiday of lights lake cruise. The INN is in a residential neighborhood. When we arrived, The staff was more anxious to leave to go to their own holiday event. We did get a tour of the inn and we're shown our room. We read all the reviews about the lovely wine reception and the gourmet breakfast, and we're so excited to have a wonderful experience . We did not receive any of that. In fact, breakfast was the same bagels and muffins that were sitting in the eating area the prior day afternoon when we arrived and still covered with plastic wrap . There was a toaster, hot coffee, a tangerine and banana. There was no yogurt, no eggs no creamer nothing hot other than hot water for prepackaged oatmeal. There was no one to be found in the morning to even ask for any additional item. We left early and had to find a local restaurant for breakfast The evening we arrived after we got back from the holiday of lights tour, we wanted some hot tea or hot chocolate. And the water in the hot water container was cold. Our room was on the third floor and the heating could not be adjusted. Mind you this is the beginning of December and we had to open the window because it was so hot. There was a lovely Christmas tree in our room but it was so large you had to scoot around it to even get to the chair to sit in. I unfortunately cannot recommend this inn

Yelp
The Roosevelt has everything you want in a great B & B. Fantastic location, gracious innkeepers, well decorated rooms, tasty well prepared breakfast & very interesting history story lines that with a little research will amaze you. The jacuzzi and sauna are a plus. Only one room has a TV but if you really need one there is a TV room downstairs. The rooms themselves were quiet except if someone is in the room above you will hear creaking when they are walking Personally I found the bed soft for my liking & for some reason our bed size felt smaller than a queen. Other than that, many thanks to John & Tina for a enjoyable & entertaining stay. Thanks to Rohan for showing us the neighborhood & while we missed Dennis we heard that he may have been around.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
A group of women had a Christmas tea here, everything was gorgeous but giving three stars is a stretch. All the chairs felt like they were going to break, the tea was a very cheap tea and was warm to cold when served. The staff looked physically flustered and overwhelmed, unable to navigate through the very tight seating arrangement. Unknown to us, the Sweet Adeline's came to sing for us. This would have been fine for 2 or 3 songs but finally our host had to very directly ask them to be done. Awkward and uncomfortable would be my polite way to describe that portion of our Tea. The process, flow and table-side manner all need some serious refinement. It's difficult to imagine they enjoy the process, from a guest perspective, it simply falls short on almost every level.

Yelp
Amazing place to stay. The owner has thought of everything. They had me sold at the warm bread pudding, rose, and glass of water waiting for us at check-in. I can't say enough about how kind they are...and prompt. Bonus : the homemade granola in the morning is TO DIE FOR. The beds are the seriously one of the best nights sleep you will have in a long time.

Yelp
This was a stop off on a road trip - ready for a nice shower and bedding. As we arrived to this historic, adorable hotel, Brenda received us and was super friendly and sweet. We got upgraded for the room which had such character, very cozy and clean. There is a large grassy area for our dog as well. In the morning the breakfast was excellent! Everyone is really friendly here. I strongly recommend.

Dominique M.

Yelp
Very beautiful accommodation and garden with 2 lovely dogs Delicious breakfast And lovely owners I got a massage after bike ride with discovery bicycle tour with Laurie Fantastic massage Highly recommend

Yelp
Fun bed and breakfast option. The Inn was all decked out for Christmas! Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Hosts/manager are very kind and welcoming.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a very pleasant time. Beautiful grounds and dog friendly. Nice breakfast and happy-hour manager's reception. A nice historic alternative to the plain vanilla hotels I stay at so often. Walking distance to restaurants downtown.

Ed H.

Yelp
It is a nice place but be sure to check there policies. The charge your card at the time of reservation and charge a fee for cancellations.

Yelp
I was recently invited to a wedding in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho at the Coeur D'Alene Resort. The resort prices were so expensive (upwards of $250 a night for a basic room), so I couldn't afford to stay there. I researched a bunch of other hotels like the Best Western and Holiday Inn but a basic room was almost $200 at both budget hotels. I knew I could find a more affordable place to stay, and found it at The Roosevelt Inn. Pros: 1. Location! Walking distance to all the sights in Coeur D'Alene 2. Yummy breakfast every morning 3. Homemade cookies and coffee around the clock 4. John and Tina are so sweet 5. Great little information book with a listing of all the restaurants in town 6. Hot tub 7. Cute decor and photos Cons: 1. The music was a little loud in the mornings, but we wanted to get up and walk around anyway. But if you really want to sleep in, it's not the quietest place in the mornings! If we come back to Coeur D'Alene, we will definitely come stay at the Roosevelt Inn again!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
B&B nothing like pictures on website Rooms small and dated with no closet space Very dark, not well lit Very expensive at $349 per night which was supposed to be a "suite" NO television NO AC Breakfast had mold on scone Housekeepers shoved dirty linen and trash in elevator after servicing rooms and it stayed there all day Never again will i stay here, it needs a complete aesthetic over haul
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't been here but i saw the hotel hell episode and thought man i wanna go there. One day i even hope to be married there! I hope you guys never quit :)

Yelp
Wonderful experience. The Bell Tower room was a unique experience. Good location and could walk to town.

Yelp
Wonderful B&B! John was kind and so accommodating during our entire stay! It was a perfect anniversary getaway weekend! The food was incredible and the rooms and bathrooms were very clean and almost looked new. We will absolutely be back for another stay! It's a smaller B&B with a family feel so if that's what you're looking for you need to stay here!

Rebekah G.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. The owners are extremely kind and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and the amenities were perfect. Would highly recommend and plan to return!!

Daniel G.

Yelp
Had a nice time at the Roosevelt Inn. John and his. Wife was very friendly and treated us like gold. Dinner and breakfast was wonderful.
google avatar

Tessa Y.

Yelp
Ehhh... At first look the place is nice and inviting but dont take a closer look. The bathrooms were clean excluding the brown/molded? grout and the dirt in the corners. John is very nice but will talk your ear off and if you are having a private conversation with someone, he will but right in, change the subject and take over the conversation. The breakfast was good but it is VERY heavy with syrup and cream. If we go back we will stay in a different hotel.

Yelp
We were at the Roosevelt during an 8-day Christmas visit to family here in Coeur d'Alene. I cannot express how absolutely pleased we are with our stay! The day before check-in, we received an email which confirmed our reservations and let us know important things, such as check in time, as well as some information on the surrounding area. When we arrived, John brought us a tray with some of the best bread pudding we've ever had as a welcome gift! We stayed in the Lischner Room, which is in the back corner of the building. It is wheelchair accessible, so there is a curtain separating the bathroom from the bedroom, but we were aware of this ahead of time and it really wasn't a problem. There's a sign-up sheet for breakfast laid out every afternoon, so we were able to pick a comfortable time, which is very nice for a B&B! Breakfast was a buffet of fresh fruit, granola, cereal, waffles, or toast, with a daily special of eggs, sausage/bacon, and/or roasted potatoes. Perhaps a bit heavy, but..it's vacation! The addition of the buffet gave the option of a lighter breakfast when desired, however. I think the main thing to keep in mind when visiting is that this is a much more casual and personal atmosphere than staying at the resort, which is definitely our speed. The staff is very eager to please, and I didn't find them intrusive as some other reviewers seem to have. Both John and Tina made us feel welcome and we will definitely be staying here again the next time we venture to North Idaho!

Yelp
We made the Roosevelt our home base for a really great CDA weekend. It happened to coincide with the CDA Iron Man triathalon and the innkeepers pulled out all the stops for the athletes, which was really cool to see. The rooms are all different and each is really pretty. Great breakfasts and fresh cookies all day long. Highly recommend this place!

Todd M.

Yelp
Family owned & operated & it shows. Family has put there heart into it! Converted School that part owner John attended. He & his wife have been Renovating since they've opened! Currently the Bed & Breakfast a gem! Stayed in the Bell tower room with a comfortable Bed with Breakfast that's tasty! Rooms are clean with quite Central Air room A/C makes you sleep like a dream! Owners & Staff are amazing help & really helpful! I would Recommend!

Cora T.

Yelp
We were greeted with bread pudding right out of the oven and offered a glass of wine at 5 PM and had a hearty, home cooked breakfast in the morning. This place is full of charm and hospitality and very reasonably priced. The "dog-friendly" theme worried me (I'm not a dog lover) but it was NOT a problem. The dogs present were under control of their masters, and are only allowed in some rooms. The place is remarkably clean even with the dogs! I will stay here again.

Yelp
The Roosevelt Inn is a former grade school. The owners are really nice people and John was a former student at the school. They have class photos from when he was there on their walls and our room was named for a former principal. The house was refurbished when the school closed in 1971(?) so it doesn't really look much like a school anymore. It is getting a little dated both inside and out. Rooms are pleasant, but could use some spiffing up. Not luxury, but nice place to discover Coeur d'Alene from. John and Tina have owned the inn the last ten years and know everything you want to know about the area. Tina's breakfast was nice, but pretty light, so big appetites might need more. I would normally have only given it a 3 star, but Tina was so friendly and helpful, that I think anyone wanting the intimacy of a B&B with super nice owners would love this place.

Terri B.

Yelp
Our daughter was married at the Roosevelt Inn on Saturday, July 6th, and this venue (B and B) is outstanding! Everything was perfect from beginning to end, and we would like to thank the owners for being warm, hospitable, and very friendly to all of our friends and family. They can accommodate small to very large gatherings in a beautiful outdoor setting. Their complimentary breakfast has to be the best in town, and they are a short walk to the lake beach, restaurants, and lounges. The wedding coordinator, Chloe, went above and beyond the call and we highly recommend her services. Our daughter posted that this day was the best day of her life and she will always remember it with love.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
We were excited to stay here given the reviews and somewhat limited options in this beautiful, unspoiled destination. We were extremely disappointed. When we checked in to our room, it was as cold as a refrigerator. When I mentioned it, the owner expressed surprise. Though it was July, I slept with socks, sweatpants, two sweatshirts and still shivered myself to sleep. In the morning, I learned that they are very aware of the temperature Imbalance and told us that we should just wake them up in the middle of the night the next night to shift the air from one room to the next. They were not receptive to my suggestion that we just switch rooms. Later, when I commented that the toilet didn't seem to be working, I got no response.

Yelp
This was a fun, unique place to stay in Coeur D'Alene. A good alternative to the crummy drive-up motels, or the super-expensive mega-hotel. The owners were very nice and friendly, breakfast (apple pancakes) was wonderfully delicious. I was in the handicapped-accessible room, which was a little weird, but it was very comfortable and nice. The decor was rather frilly and Victorian for me, but better than a chain hotel's blandness. The property had wifi and a beautiful hot tub, which I was too tired to try out.

Edie F.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes... Make the effort to find this darling, super pet friendly B and B in Coeur d' Alene on your way to discovering the stovepipe of Idaho. John and Tina cooked us a hardy breakfast while the dogs ran around the surrounding gardens playing with their friendly Golden Retriever, Rohan.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous. We will most Definately be going back. The rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. The owners are the most interesting and cordial people you have ever met. A lot of places are content to serve a really skimpy breakfast. But not these people. Their breakfasts are to die for. We have stayed at many B&Bs but this place is by far and away one of the best. Thanks John and Tina for a marvelous experience. We'll see you again.
google avatar

Erik T.

Yelp
Great spot. This was my first bed and breakfast experience and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Our hosts made us feel welcome and invited like we were staying with old friends. Will repeat.

Kate S.

Yelp
Love this place! Excellent service, super charming, awesome breakfast, coffee/tea/water and cookies 24/7, hot tub and sauna, and the perfect location to walk to hiking, eating and shopping. I would absolutely stay here again and I highly recommend it! Oh yes, also super comfortable bed with really nice sheets!

Yelp
Cozy and welcoming. Great breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Wonderful bed and breakfast nestled in downtown Coeur d'Alene. We had a great time staying here and enjoyed a couples massage and a soak in the hot tub. We woke to a wonderful breakfast and coffee. The Olin room was very comfortable with Victorian like decor. Thank You Roosevelt Inn.

M. C.

Yelp
Unfortunately I did not have a good experience at the Roosevelt Inn. The property is misrepresented on-line and is dingy, with no amenities. No temperature control in the rooms, no mini-fridge, no coffee pot, no TV, no microwave, tiny bathroom, not even an ice bucket (I had to grab one from another room). Three alarms woke me up between 5 and 6 am, one of which was in another unoccupied room that I could not get to. The owner John is arrogant and unfriendly, and only cares about the guests attending his murder mystery dinner - he doesn't seem to care about the guests paying to stay the night. The only good thing going for them is their employee Kayla who is a sweetheart. I can't believe I spent $300 for one night here. Should have stayed at the resort a few blocks away. This Hotel Hell episode by Gordon Ramsay detailing how John handles this business tells it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhyE0oviozQ.

Lynn P.

Yelp
Comfortable, beautiful rooms with unbelievable hospitality from John and Tina. The breakfasts are SO good... Orange waffles, oh my. And the bread pudding in the room at check in is out of this world.
google avatar

Jayne K.

Yelp
Remember how you loved going to Grandma's because you knew you were going to be spoiled? That's what staying at the Roosevelt Inn is like. I checked in, went to the car to get my bag and when I came to my room, there was iced lemon water, the most amazing bread pudding and a long stem rose delivered. And that was just the beginning. Breakfast buffet, outdoor movies, happy hour each night, a wonderful staff, free wi-fi and plenty of parking. The only drawback is I can't stay longer.

Yelp
What a charming place ! We loved the owners and there story , the homemade goodies , the garden , the dog - we felt home !

Yelp
We stayed here for Ironman CDA and had a great time. The hotel is located close to the finish line, they had a home cooked breakfast for us everyday, and cooked a fabulous pasta dinner the night be fore the race. They accommodated our group and exceeded our expectations.
