"For a hearty taste of traditional cuisine, I head to The Roots Restaurant for a dollop of matooke (steamed and mashed green bananas) with rich groundnut sauce, pair it with luwombo—meat or fish stewed in banana leaves for a uniquely aromatic taste—and add posho, a thick flour porridge that’s perfect for soaking up delicious sauces and stews." - Scott Campbell
If you want an authentic Ugandan culinary experience - this is the place to be! It is located in Nakasero. Quite packed during lunch hours! It is a popular joint for most of the working class locals.
Food was tasty and the portions were really large! I would have to starve for 2 days for me to finish the servings.😅😅 particularly loved the beef in groundnut sauce luwombo. 😋
Service was great. 💯 Conveniently located!

Very impressed with the layout and privacy in the garden seating. It was our first time trying Lowombo. It was plenty and well prepared only would be good if server brings what is requested from side choices and fills the plate instead of wasting food with unrequested items. Overall great local dining experience!
