"The Little Theater with a Wild Reputation Missoula, Montana , a city surrounded by towering Rocky Mountain trails, is home to the very first and now the longest running wildlife film festival in the country. The next festival will run from April 18 to 25, 2015, and all works are shown on one of the three screens at the Roxy Theater. The storied history of Missoula's Roxy Theater includes a catastrophic fire that nearly ruined the place in 1994. But with the help of numerous funders and lots of local support, the Wildlife Film Festival rebuilt the ruins and helped revitalize the neighborhood. Now the area around the Roxy, known as the "Hip Strip," boasts cool bars, great restaurants, and funky shops where you can pick up everything from Missoula-made beer to high-end fabrics from around the world. Janet Rose, the Executive Director of the film festival, grew up New York City where she attended the United Nations International School and the prestigious Bronx School of Science, but she landed in Missoula with a vision. Her creation is one of the many arts programs that make this quirky Montana town a special place to explore. The Roxy is located at 718 S. Higgins Ave. The "Hip Strip" runs up Higgins Avenue from the Roxy to the bridge that takes drivers, bikers, and walkers over the majestic Clark Fork River."

This theater is more than just a place to watch movies. This place is place to go when you feel alone. This is a place to find community. 5 stars all the way.

Went to the Friday last showing of Wicked. The movie experience was amazing however the customer service experience was awful. The gal at the popcorn stand was extremely rude telling me I needed to get to the back of the line when I stood by my aunt at the front. Then, proceeded to tell us we needed to make sure we ordered everything we wanted because she was looking forward to clocking out. My aunt asked “oh I volunteered here many years ago are you guys not volunteers?” the gal batted her eyelashes and in a condescending tone said “no this is how I pay for my childrens education.” She made me feel like all of us customers were such a big inconvenience to her. I know this isn’t managements fault necessarily but I highly recommend they encourage their employees to have better customer service. And make sure they actually enjoy working in the service industry. Don’t know if I’ll go back anytime soon. I’d rather pay AMC prices then be made to feel that way.

Awesome rotation of movies, great film festivals and seasonal showings. Even the basic membership allows you a discount on tickets and free popcorn. Adult beverages are available, I love the popcorn seasoning carousel and the friendly staff. The marquee and box office give it a warm throwback ambiance.

Perhaps my favorite movie theater ever! The Roxy shows wonderful new releases, cinematic classics and the best array of high and low brow films around. I grew up going to the Roxy and it’s still my favorite place to spend a few hours. Delicious organic popcorn (free for members) is another bonus. The Missoula community is so lucky to have it! The photo below is from when it burned down back in the 90s. Thank god they were able to revive it and it came back better than ever.

We went and watched the Cocaine Bear at the Rox. It's such an amazing place. Kind of a step back in time in the best way. Not to mention the amazing snacks and drinks sections that won't blow your entire paycheck. The staff is very friendly, the bathrooms and theaters are clean. It's the best theater in town. Don't go without watching a film here, you'll absolutely love it! I love how they also incorporated an advertisement by the Salish tribe, which is the tribe that I am from. It was really neat to see that. The decor was amazing as well. Nothing bad to report here. Support your local 🔥❤️

Always a good place to see an interesting movie. I always have to have their great buttered popcorn served in a big metal bowl with lots of butter. People who work there are always friendly.

The Roxy is hard to review because a lot of what could be criticized is from being so old, but is also the root of its historic charm. The seats are a bit small, the lobby gets easily crowded, the screens aren't giant, but that all kinda adds to the Roxy experience. It's not a cookie cutter corporate megaplex, it's an honest to goodness local theater that most towns used to have, but few remain. It also has the best selection of movies in town. They not only do the big new movies, but a constant rotation ranging from classics to avant-garde. If you like movies, it is worth checking out.

I had never been to the Roxy and went recently to watch the Twisters movie. I absolutely loved this quaint little theatre. It has an outdoor patio to watch movies and the theatre recycles. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Truly a wonderful venue! I will come again!

Yelp
Thank God for theaters like this that are not run by corporate companies, pushing sugar and luxury cars on you and they program interesting things in a vintage setting!!!!!

Yelp
A great spot to watch a movie. Always a good variety of movies, and such a community vibe. Great prices and friendly staff that you can never go wrong with-- it's unique and very Missoula

Yelp
We really enjoy this theater, wish we had one like this back home. Very friendly and very eco friendly. Staff was super nice, best popcorn!

Yelp
The Roxy rules. Best popcorn - salt, butter, brewer's yeast, black pepper, other toppings. Wonderful workers. Beverage selection that includes local brews and tea. Fabulous selections of films - new ones, classics, themes. The new seats are comfortable and complete with cup holders. Old movie posters hang on the walls. Favorite plastic in wallet is Roxy membership card. (Free popcorn!) Thank you for weathering the pandemic. Can't wait to try the outdoor theater!

Yelp
Very friendly staff here. Love that they had the Girl Scouts in the lobby selling cookies and baked goods. Very community oriented. The only downsides for me is the beverages are all carbonated unless you want hot tea. They were nice enough to give me a big glass for ice water though!

Yelp
I accidentally bought tickets at this theater when trying to see a movie at The Roxie in San Francisco. I didn't realize until past show time and they still refunded me fully. It was super kind of them so I had to leave a great review. I'll definitely be visiting if I'm ever in Missoula!

Yelp
Best theater in town. Great variety of movies. Fantastic popcorn, and beer as well. Support your local theater!

Yelp
Everything a community theater should be! Wonderful friendly staff; great listing of movies including new releases and old favorites, high-interest documentaries, hard to find indie films; 3 screens with comfortable seating; great snack bar options including beer and wine. Missoula loves the Roxy!

Callie S.

Yelp
Very charming theater! There are a variety of films here for everyone. This place is quite fun and can be interactive (depending on the film). I love how quaint it is.

Yelp
Excellent Staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. Movie Theater was clean, quiet and very comfortable. I would visit again.

Yelp
Best small town theatre. And you can get a cold beer or cider. What more can be said? Community-oriented and stuff.

Steph W.

Yelp
Incredibly rude "manager" (quotes because I can't believe this guy was given this job) was so nasty that I will never support this theater as long as he (John) is there. When a friend couldn't find two seats together, he not only refused to refund the tickets, he totally gaslighted her, insulted her, and got pretty personal. Any other movie theater would instantly refund the ticket price. There's no obvious sign showing a no-refund policy, so he was just being nasty. Good job with customer service, dude. You've lost at least five customers because of this, and for what? The moron finally gave her passes to come back, and she would have used them if the guy hadn't been such a troll. Now they're worthless since she and her boyfriend won't come back. If they can afford to alienate customers over such a simple, ordinary transaction, then I'm sure they must sell out every show.

Yelp
Fabulous independent movie theater! Lots of rotating movies/events, clean theater, and refreshments. I've only had positive experiences here!

Yelp
Love this place, and glad it's here! Went to a fun Bollywood screening, where they had samosas and pakoras from the Masala food cart for sale - nice touch. Multiple kinds of gluten free beer, organic popcorn, and good prices on the concessions. Inventive and interesting programming - go in for a visit soon!
