First and only time I've ever been to Campbeltown. I was up there to do the walk over to Davaar Island and visit Jesus Cave. I made the right choice in staying at the Royal Hotel. It's a great property. Very, very old but fully renovated and absolutely comfortable. I was lucky enough to score a room overlooking the harbor. Unlike a lot of old hotels, this property does an elevator.||Lots of history there and it's worth looking at the display case in the lobby to see the hotel over the years, including being hit by a bomb in World War Two.||Two fantastic employees at the front desk who went above and beyond, Caroline and Dennis. They both were genuinely nice, not fake hospitality-industry nice. Management should absolutely give both a raise! Caroline even went so far as to drop off the latest tide times at my room which was very kind and Dennis was extremely helpful in booking a taxi for me.||There's a bar/pub attached to the hotel. And there's also a restaurant which was handy because Campbeltown gets quite dead shortly after sunset.||I really enjoyed my stay and it would be my first choice if I return to Campbeltown!

Housekeeping staff are absolutely perfect. Brilliant team! Tried every hotel and guest house in Campbeltown and this one is by far the best in all departments. These girls deserve all the praise they can get🙌 Keep up the good work troops🤗

The whole experience was dreadful. When we first walked in a girl had to get up from her seat at one of the tables grudgingly to welcome us. Her attitude was so bad it was almost as if she didn’t want to be there. When we were ready to order our lunch we had to present ourselves to the staff to say we were ready to order. Everything about the whole experience was shocking! The staff really need a lesson on how to greet and serve staff. I can only assume that the 4.6 rating of this venue is from the experience of hotel stays and not locals popping in for lunch which I assume is less of an income than the hotel stays. It’s so sad to see as I grew up with this place being the place to go for a lunch, or pot of tea, it was always a hustling bustling place to be, not now. Sad days.

Stayed here last week for a 3 night break. First visit to Campbeltown and the Mull of Kintyre. Service excellent from check in to departure, got to mention Caroline, who was so helpful over the day's we were there, she is a walking encyclopedia of Campbeltown. The view from the room over the Harbour, fantastic. Hopefully will make a return visit in the future.

Popped into hotel bar on our stop from the Waverley Paddle Steamer trip. Restaurant was very busy so we ordered a bowl of soup and a drink at the bar. Great soup with fresh hot roll, friendly staff (they were run off their feet) and a comfy environment to stop in for an hour. Would recommend if you're in the area.

A great hotel. Lovely views and the staff is very accommodating. Sad we could only stay one night. It will definitely be a stop on our next trip.

We checked in for two nights bed and breakfast in a Superior Room at the Royal Hotel in Campbeltown. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and had a superbly comfortable bed. We enjoyed fantastic views over the harbour. Our only quibbles were that the room was furnished in a slightly old fashioned style and that the tea making making facilities seemed to be just for one person. Staff were generally friendly and approachable, especially on reception. However, the Harbourview Grille was a disappointment. We waited 45 minutes for our starter to arrive. The cullen skunk was tasty but the main courses were unexceptional. We were disappointed that there were not more fish options and surprised that there was no enquiry about possible allergies. Breakfast in the morning is served in the Harbourview Grille. There is a good range of cold foods in the buffet but the range of hot foods is very restricted for those on a vegetarian or vegan diet. The service in the morning was dreadfully poor. We were told that we could sit anywhere and then advised that we had sat a table which had not been set up for breakfast. Overall, it would be nice if the person on duty could be a little more attentive.

Staff and hotel excellent. Staff polite and helpful. Rooms clean and welcoming. Food in restaurant good but service a bit slow due to staff shortages but we were in no rush. Defo recommend as central to everything
