The Royal Hotel Mornington & Walter’s Dining Hall

Had a fantastic experience at Walter’s Dining Hall last week! Our server was Eilish who brought great vibes and we all had a good laugh with her. The food was exceptional and cocktails truly incredible. Will 10000% be back and have told at least 5 meal about the amazing experience this past week. Thank you for such a great time!

While it looks a bit shabby from the outside, the room itself was fantastic. The king room is large, beautiful and well appointed. The tub and shower are very enjoyable and the view is very hard to beat. Watching the sunset over the bay from the balcony is incredible. We ate once in the restaurant downstairs, the staff were courteous, the food basic but delicious. The only issue we had during our stay was that the music from the bar downstairs filtered up to the room, but it is confined to their operating hours which were about 1130-2130. All in all, we'd stay there without hesitation.

Came here for a Tuesday night dinner. Service was good. Cocktail good and bar service good. Issues were music in dinning just slightly too loud. Food was a let down I am afraid. For the price was expecting alot better, better presentation and flavour. I would suggest a mid week pricing while the kitchen has the junior staff are on. I had flat head tails. Can I suggest, good home made Mayo for tartar, good salad with dressing on the plate with slaw and thicker cut chips for the price Was told the plunger coffee would give 2 cups, no gave 1and a half cups. Not good for two people although brand of coffee was good Dessert was massive portion of sticky date but lacking presentation. Could I suggest the caramel sauce comes on the side in jug and pudding and ice cream on bowel with a small garnish

This is a quite great place to enjoy the views, the food and the wine… well worth the visit, prices are reasonable and the service was great.||Enjoyed the pumpkin and cream sauce agnolotti and a beautiful crème caramel to finish off…. The only thing missing was a nice coffee to finish.||But that didn’t spoil the visit, just something I think would involve the experience.

The best customer service I’ve experienced in a long time in Victoria. I don’t usually write reviews. Only when I experience exceptional service, which is hard to find these days. Wil, Erin, Jessie and Maddy have gone above and beyond to make my stay here absolutely wonderful. They are all kind lovely humans. So refreshing to see that. The cocktails at Walter’s deserve a special mention. AMAZING. Highly recommend. 13 stars 🌟 💫

I ordered the kingfish sashimi, the seafood pasta, and the royal cheese burger. Words could not describe how amazing the pasta and kingfish were, both were amazing 😍. The burger was tasty, and wholesome. I ate the pasta and let me just say: it tasted like creamy heaven. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the service was remarkable. Will definitely be back for a second time 😄

Whilst the food and views are fantastic, I was so dissapointed in the size and price of the starter calamari…as a starter I didn’t expect it to be huge amount but geez…..a small bread butter plate with a very small amount of calamari and some rocket at a price of $26 is just outrageous! You could have thrown a handful of chips on and I possibly would have ok with spending the $26! Other than that as I said the food and views are lovely.

A Culinary Experience to Remember From the moment we stepped into Walter's Dining Hall, we knew we were in for something special. As a group of eight, including vegetarians, we were eager to sample a variety of dishes—and what an incredible feast it turned out to be! The experience was made even more memorable when the head chef personally came out to talk us through the menu. His passion for the food was evident, and after hearing his recommendations, we decided to go with the ‘Feed Me’ option, allowing the chef to curate a selection of the best dishes for us. This turned out to be the perfect choice, as every plate that arrived at our table was nothing short of outstanding. We started with the Kingfish Sashimi with salmon pearls, a dish as stunning as it was delicious. The freshness of the kingfish, paired with the delicate pop of the salmon pearls, made for a perfect bite every time. The Green Mango and Papaya Salad was a refreshing contrast, with just the right balance of tangy, sweet, and crunchy elements. The Salt and Szechuan Pepper Calamari was another standout—light, crispy, and seasoned to perfection with just the right amount of heat. Then came the Crispy Japanese Eggplant, which was a revelation. Even those who claimed they weren’t eggplant fans found themselves going back for more. For mains, the Mongolian Wagyu Beef was simply melt-in-your-mouth, with deep, rich flavors that left everyone raving. The Tokyo Street Fries—a fun, umami-packed twist on classic fries—disappeared from the table in record time. The restaurant also catered beautifully to our vegetarian diners, ensuring they had just as many exciting flavors to enjoy. Every dish was beautifully presented, packed with bold, fresh flavors, and left us wanting more. Just when we thought the meal couldn't get any better, we finished with a Lime Crème Brûlée—the perfect balance of creamy indulgence and citrusy brightness, with a flawlessly crisp caramelized top. The service was warm and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Not only did every single person at the table love their meal, but we all agreed—we’ll definitely be returning!

I a way this pub was rather fancy, but it really did come across as being one of those places that, well, certainly has some charm about it. I guess it stands out as being one of the original pubs in Mornington. It was certainly quite a large pub, and the service was pretty good as well, though it certainly didn't stand out as being a favourite. Still, it certainly does its job, it does have some nice beers, and the staff a rather pleasant as well.

The food was pricy but worth every cent I even left a tip! I highly recommend this to any one who is willing to drive away or I you live here you are super lucky.

Great location, food and ambience (hotel becomes restaurant). Service is the weak element which you would think would be fixable but has been consistent over our five visits. Concise menu and offer, it does not amaze you but gives you what you expect. Worth supporting though. Get service right and its a 4 star rather than 3.5.

Great location, but unfortunately very weak service. The menu is pricey, and you won't find anything remotely healthy. The place looks amazing and again, the beach view is unbeatable.
