Within an hour from Cape Town with ample farm stalls en route for coffee and light meals is the town of Riebeek Kasteel. And of course the Royal Hotel.|Not sure about previous reviews on service levels as we had EXCELLENT service. And great surprises like free coffee and hot drinks during our stay as well as daily complimentary scones and tea in the afternoon. This definitely is the epitome of serving guests well. |Management is very present but as the team they work so well together its hard to guess who this person is. We turned this into a game to identify the manager as it became a fun game. The lady who checked us in and served our first complimentary scones was the person. No airs and graces just simple good hospitality and great comaraderie among the staff. |Rooms very cosy with great working air cons and heated towel rails. |Fancy a coffee in the room - just order and within minutes it arrives. No charge. Wow!|The highlight though was a great recommendation to dine at the restaurant affiliated to the Hotel. A little French themed bistro. Very unassuming until you look around. No restaurant I have ever visited in the entire South Africa has all the Sadie family wines on offer. ALL!!! (Its a big deal and try buy just a simple bottle and see how big a deal this is) The wine list is curated spectacularly. Beyond world class. Definitely impresses to find this level of sophistication in a tiny cafe in a small town in the veneyards and wheatfields of the Swartland. And then you dine and the food is again world class. Yummy with a capital Y. And again simpy great service. |Lots of surprises and wow moments staying at the Royal Hotel. |Staff definitely best experience followed by the experiences we enjoyed at the Hotel mostly related to Food and Beverage. |Love our stay. Plan to return.

We’ve been coming over and over again for many years but this time everything sparkles and shines just a little brighter - mirrors, glass, surfaces just show a little more love than on prior visits. Every corner is clean and bright and cared for. Staff seem just a bit more focussed, polished and energetic while not for a moment losing any of their warmth and friendly hospitality. Food is really good - some interesting and unusual choices beautifully presented. Absolute best to get good coffee room service early morning.

As I type this, my partner and I are winding down from an incredible weekend away. The Royal Hotel has been on our to-do list for a few months, ever since we happened upon it while taking a detour through the charming little town of Riebeek-Kasteel. From the moment we arrived, the staff have been absolutely amazing, attentive and friendly. The rooms are spotless and fitted with all the creature comforts one could need. The food is incredible. We sampled from both the Royal Restaurant, with its laid-back fare, as well as the 8 course fine dining restaurant, The Blue Room. Both meals left us speechless. A massive thank you to everyone we met at the Royal for making our stay so special

Hotel is old which is fine - if the staff / employees showed some enthusiasm. We had been travelling for over a week, the worst service we had anywhere.|The breakfast team make you feel that you imposing on their personal time. Terrible terrible service.|The rooms are ok - but bathrooms very very old and some areas have mould

Great setting, lots of charm and friendly staff. Comfortable and clean rooms. Our experience unfortunately tainted with very poor service at the breakfast table, so much so that I left without it! Kitchen obviously could not cope, despite dining room only half full. No manager in sight.

Road trip with friends, the hotel staff friendly and welcoming, but the restaurant service is slow, but awesome gin collection. The wine list is also good. The rooms comfortable with excellent linen and the finer touches are great. The stoep for sundowners is great

We recently went on a unplanned road trip. First night stop at the Royal Hotel in Riebeeck Kasteel. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left everything was amazing. What a privilege to stay in such an historical Hotel. We will be back. Greg and Cynthia
