As I type this, my partner and I are winding down from an incredible weekend away. The Royal Hotel has been on our to-do list for a few months, ever since we happened upon it while taking a detour through the charming little town of Riebeek-Kasteel. From the moment we arrived, the staff have been absolutely amazing, attentive and friendly. The rooms are spotless and fitted with all the creature comforts one could need. The food is incredible. We sampled from both the Royal Restaurant, with its laid-back fare, as well as the 8 course fine dining restaurant, The Blue Room. Both meals left us speechless. A massive thank you to everyone we met at the Royal for making our stay so special

Road trip with friends, the hotel staff friendly and welcoming, but the restaurant service is slow, but awesome gin collection. The wine list is also good. The rooms comfortable with excellent linen and the finer touches are great. The stoep for sundowners is great

We had an amazing food experience at the Blue Room of the Royal Hotel few weeks ago. We went there to celebrate my birthday. From the warm welcome at the reception to the attention to details from chef Francois in the plates, the whole evening was perfect. For us living in the Riebeek Valley, the Royal Hotel is always the iconic pillar of excellence in hospitality.

We stopped for quick scones and tea and man did we enjoy it. The manager actually told us that the scones were baked the previous day (I liked her honesty), but was still moist and very tasty. I will recommend stopping here for something to eat - must be a treat also to stay over in the hotel

Took a drive out of Cape Town on the saturday after a stressful week. We love Tulbagh area so went to the picturesque (as promoted) town of Kasteel Reibeek. Sat on the verandah of the Royal Hotel and all the works stresses ebbed away. Glass of wine, nibbles, bustling little town, can't be bothered driving home so checked in after 3pm recommended, nice room, lovely grounds friendly staff. Walked around town a little and back to hotel for early dinner again on the stoop. It's winter but you wouldn't know it. Attentive service, lovely food, town still relatively busy. Very restful, pleasant and without giving that feeling of it being too remote. Breakfast in the morning, good, friendly service. All in could not fault the hotel service and food and the town is nice too. Will certainly return or at least visit again en route.

We went along for a drink and dinner, as we always do when staying in Riebeek Kasteel. How can you miss having a giant G&T sitting on the longest stoep south of the Limpopo? It is like stepping back one hundred years but with all modern conveniences. We had neglected to book (remember to book if you want to sit on the stoep!), but luckily someone cancelled and so we were able to take their table on the stoep. Drinks were fabulous, service was friendly and efficient, and the dinner was lovely, they really have improved the food quality over the years. The Royal Tomato salad might be the best thing we ate on the entire holiday this time - I will be trying to recreate that for some time.

We had breakfast and dinner each night sitting on the ancient veranda watching the world go by and the sunsets….magical.|Food is excellent….cooked to perfection and plenty of choice.
