The Royal Oak Exmoor

This is a hidden gem in the heart of Exmoor we stayed on Saturday 7th March with our Frenchie Lilah. From arrival to departure this was truly 5 🌟 The host lady was lovely as was the young man behind the bar and in the restaurant. Breakfast was superb and again nothing was too much trouble we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thank you Julien Sara and Lilah the Frenchie ❤️

Wow! What a fantastic English pub with a lovely vibrant country-life feel. We — and our dog — received such a warm, friendly welcome. Our short stay was wonderful; the staff were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. It’s got a truly authentic British charm and is clearly well used and loved by both locals and visitors. Super dog-friendly, quaint, and full of character! The food was outstanding, and we can’t wait to come back.

We’ve just a three day break at the Royal Oak, rooms good, bed extremely comfortable, food excellent, just great! Jayne and her team including Olly, Aston, Steve and Amy were really friendly and looked after us brilliantly with lots of thoughtful touches, highly recommended.

The food is excellent we had home made steak and ale pie absolutely delicious pie I’ve never seen a pie like that in a restaurant before it was amazing and the chunks of steak went all the way through it this place definitely gives you value for you money, beers they have an excellent choice we had Exmoor Ale 3.5% lovely tasting beer. The pub is family owned Jayne (FOH) was very friendly and helpful as was Ollie this is a place I would recommend to anyone in the area to visit you won’t be disappointed we are here for a week so will be there a few times more I have given rooms 5 stars although we have not seen them but going on the cleanliness and care the family take care of the rest of the establishment they have taken great care of the property

What a pleasant day I had some evenings ago. The staff was outstanding, especially the young, charming server who remembered my taste and shared wonderful tales from his travels. The owner was also incredibly welcoming and ensured everyone had a lovely time. Food was absolutely delightful. I'll be back soon!

I stayed here in January 2026, what a fantastic place this is, and incredibly friendly staff. Nothing was too much hassle and very accommodating including amending the menu around our tastes. The rooms were very comfortable and an endless supply of hot water, I will defiantly be returning.

Wonderful Sunday lunch served by extremely friendly bar and waiting staff. Spoiled only by a rather strange frosty reception from the person on the front desk who scolded me for arriving four minutes before they were officially open. Otherwise, really lovely.

Drove down from Minehead for dinner on Saturday evening. The pub has an incredible atmosphere, the staff were fun and the service was excellent. To top it off the meal itself was first class. I had the lamb which was soft, pink, and flavourful with great starters and desserts. Our dog also got pampered!
