No! Just no! Worst hotel we have stayed in in Japan. Dirty in the room: mould in bathroom, someone else’s hair and used contact lense on the floor and not cleaned up in 5 nights! Tiny hot rooms with noisy air con. No view at all, just at a wall max 3m away! Tiny bathroom. Breakfast exceptionally poor. No nice bread or pastries, no egg station, fruit not good, small coffee’s and you had to tidy your bits away cafe style! The bar charges you a service charge to use it as well!

I had such a cozy and convenient place to stay! The location was perfect — close to train stations, restaurants, and popular spots around Kyoto which made everything easy to access 💖. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with all the essentials provided. The staff were all kind, friendly, and helpful, which made check-in and our whole stay smooth and stress-free 🫶🏻. Overall, this hotel made my Kyoto experience feel extra welcoming and restful 🥺🫶🏻. Definitely a great choice if you’re staying in the Sanjo area — I’d love to stay here again next time 💛.

Google
The biggest positive about this place is its super location, a two minute walk away from Kyoto’s most popular hang out- Kawaramachi. Terramachi street, Nishiki market etc are right there and there’s plenty of options around to eat and drink and generally entertain yourself throughout the day. Public transport is also nearby and you can actually walk to Gion if you so wish, it’s not that long. Location- wise 10/10. ||The hotel however could be better. We had the twin room and while the room size was decent, the layout was very odd which meant that opening our big suitcases was very difficult. The bathroom was dimly lit for some reason and amenities were not as great as other places we experienced in Japan. ||The breakfast buffet was pretty average and the overall feeling was of a place that took quite a few shortcuts in doing things. ||The staff however was very polite and friendly as we experienced in the whole of Japan. ||So, I would recommend this hotel but mainly tor the location. Mind you, we didn’t have a bad experience, just that it was a middle of the road, neither here nor there kind of a feeling.

I really liked this hotel! Great location with easy access to main attractions. We had 2 rooms - one for our teenage boys and one for us and they were right next door to each other. Larger rooms than we expected. Good washing machines on L2 and L3 helped mid trip. Super helpful staff - we greatly appreciated the manager calling a Resturant we dined at one night but were overcharged - they managed to get the owner of the Resturant to deliver the refund in cash direct to the hotel rather than us having to go back to collect. Great service all round!

The bedroom had a very good size and very comfortable beds. The bathroom was well equipped, though a bit small. The room smell good. The staff was very helpful and gave good touristic advice. The bar serves excellent Japanese gin. The metro station is a few minutes away. There is an excellent Bakery-cafe next to the hotel.

Google
Well situated: near the famous market, great restaurants in the area and not far to a metro station to get to the shrines and temples on the eastern side of Kyoto. Breakfast buffet had a decent choice. No decaf coffee and juice options limited. It was self clear (fine with us). Room was a decent size, with a view of construction next door. Not that we were in the room very much.

I stayed at this hotel 2 years in a row. There’s nothing great about it except it’s in a convenient location and the price is reasonable.|However, this review is particularly about this one staff who was rude. I wish I knew his name but the only thing that stood out about him was he was kind of fat. I stayed there for 4 nights and 2 out of the 4 days I did not request room service, so I stopped by the lobby on these days to ask for water. I never had any issues and was handed 2 bottles of water immediately with a smile. Then the last nightI saw this guy. He asked me first my room number, then my name, then went to grab one bottle of water. I had asked for “a couple of water”. I asked him at this time, “can I get another one since I didn’t request room service today?” He brought back another bottle and thrusted it in my hand.|The rest of the staff I encountered was really nice. I spent time to write this review to let the management at this hotel know that this guy’s behavior was not acceptable at all.

Google
Very conveniently located in the city, with close access to shops, restaurants and entertainment, and within walking distance to the geisha district of Gion. The well-maintained room with city views was spacious and comfortable, with a well-equipped bathroom. Hotel service though was minimal but helpful. The well-stocked bar was a welcomed benefit. Overall, a good hotel for a sound sleep after exploring Kyoto to the fullest during the daytime.

Yelp
It wasn't cheap, but 100% worth the price! After staying in our Airbnb in Tokyo for 5 days, it was a great relief to book a stay at this hotel in Kyoto. So glad that we booked it. Upon entering, the automatic doors scream modern, and the staff greeted us and made us feel welcomed. Our room was spacious, and the bathroom was my favorite. I really liked the shower and the toiletries! It's in close proximity to everything, even a bakery next door. It's walking distance to the river, trains, many shops, and restaurants. They have a pretty cool bar inside the hotel too (more of a mixology bar to say the least). We loved this hotel so much and would stay here again the next time we visit Kyoto. Conveniency is key!

Yelp
absolutely loved the location for this hotel ! i would say if you're traveling from kyoto to tokyo though, this hotel is quite a walk from the station you'll need to go to to head towards the shinkansen. however, it's genuinely not a bad spot to pick! it's super clean, the staff are friendly and speak english, and i really like the location since it's next to the strip of stores ! you can walk essentially anywhere and it's conveniently near the train stations as well. i love how spacious it was especially since we were lugging around four luggage. i would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
This is a must stay spot if you are planning on staying in Kyoto. It is literally within walking distance of all of the great shopping areas and restaurants. It's also close to the train stations as well. The hotel itself has a great feel to it, a high class vibe. The rooms are decently sized (in terms of Japanese standards), they have a washer/dryer that I used when staying. It takes coins, and once you've been in Japan for a few days, you'll have plenty! Front desk staff are amazing and they allow you to leave your bags if you check in early or have a late flight and need to store them after you check out.

Yelp
Very nice hotel! Overall no complaints! Staff was nice enough to store our bags when we showed up many hours before check in. Room was very clean. Only knock was the breakfast that you can choose to pay for was not the best, especially compared to other hotels we have stayed out while in Japan but since it's not included we just went next door to the bakery and everything there was delicious! Would stay again as it is very central!

Yelp
Very convenient place to stay! There is 7-11, family mart and train station nearby. Hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable.

Yelp
Shhhh.... This is one of the best kept lodging secrets in Kyoto. Hotel snobs who value name over all else, stop reading. Top pro: Location, location, location. You can't get more central than this. 2 min walk from the Kamo river and loads of traditional restaurants (including some Michelin greats). 2 min walk to a major taxi stand. 5 min walk to nearest station. 10 min walk to Nishiki market and other major shopping arcades and department stores. 10 min walk to Gion. 15 min walk to the Imperial Palace 20 min walk to Kiyomizu and surrounding temples. Other pros: - Relatively new, mid range hotel with contemporary design. - Relatively large, rooms per Japanese standards. - Well appointed (complete toiletry box - leave your TSA ziplock at home, plush linens and robes, mini fridge, coffee / tea maker, bottled waters delivered daily) - Free very high speed WiFi in all rooms. - Restaurant on site (for those lacking the wherewithal to go for a short walk and seek out really great food). - Excellent whisky bar (great selection from Japan with solid, non mainstream picks from Scotland all served in proper glassware) - International clientele so all staff are fluent in English. - Outstanding service from all staff. - Taxi drivers know it's location by the hotel's name; well at least by "Royoru Paku" (no fumbling on your phone for the address in Japanese) Tip: Always check online booking sites for deals. (I booked the room for $83/nt on Hotels.com during a 24hr sale when the lowest rate on the hotel's own was $250/nt). Tip: Free room upgrades if available offered to repeat guest. The choice is yours but it's hard to beat the location and value of Royal Park Kyoto.

Yelp
This hotel is tucked away at the fringe of the "touristy center" but within walking distance to the Marketplace. It is next to the exit 6 of the Shijo Station but go to exit 4 for elevator if you have big luggage that you don't want to lug up the stairs. I had a great experience staying here for 4 nights. It is quiet and new. I think it is relatively newer to its sister hotel located in Sanjo. Like everything in Japan, everything is super clean. The room is good size for Japanese standard but small comparing to the US norms. What's impressive is the soaking tub in the bathroom. It came in handy after a long day of walking / sightseeing - really relaxing! The There is no bar soap nor small bottles of shampoo / conditioner but there are pumps for soap, shampoo and conditioner. I like the quality and the completeness of the other amenities standard for Asian hotels... you also get 2 complementary bottles of water daily. One thing I really appreciate is the quietness... we got 2 adjoining rooms and we don't hear any noise outside our rooms. This hotel is a midrange hotel but I really like it. Worth the bucks!

Yelp
For the money, Royal Park Hotel is where it's at. Convenient location, in the thick of things, but near the subways. My room was luxury - pimp bathroom with a wonderful shower, big comfy bed, clean and high end. So much bigger when comparing Tokyo hotels. I honestly can't imagine you can get much better for the price. The lobby is modern hip with a hotel bar (with $$$ cocktails). The staff were super polite and spoke English fluently which was helpful with a restaurant reservation or two. A short walk to some great restaurants, some great bars, shopping and again, close to the subway to get to those amazing temples. Might I add that their hotel tourism map may as well have been the best tourist map that I've ever seen and I've been to a ton of places. They highlight all the points of interest, their closest subway stop and distance. Don't forget to turn that bad boy over for all that rich information. 100% stay here if you aren't trying to ball out at the Ritz.

Yelp
" Best Power Shower in the World & The Bar was Super " My family stayed at the Royal Park Hotel The Kyoto for 3 night 2 weeks ago and had a good time. the rooms are very small but in Tokyo the hotels are even smaller. The bathroom was very nice with a separate tub and shower. And the shower was the hardest spraying shower I had ever felt. It was great ! Everything was very clean, and even though the beds felt hard they were very comfortable to sleep on. There's a convenience store a few steps away, a bakery right next door, and plenty of restaurants and shops across the street for your convenience. It's also a short walking distance to the bus stops and Mall shopping areas. The best thing in this Hotel However was " The Bar ", which is open every day just a short walk from the front counter. The main Bartender & Whiskey Expert Teruya Iwasaki was Awesome! Every night we would talk with him, and watch him make the cocktails with the most perfect Bartender moves and flare that I have ever seen. He was such a nice guy. Thank You Teruya for making our stay at the hotel very enjoyable.

Yelp
I stayed here for two nights while visiting Osaka and Kyoto. It was about a 15 min walk from the Kawaramachi Station, where I had gotten off from Osaka. Super easy to walk over. Service was great. I got there before check in and they offered me a room that was available right away. That allowed me to drop my stuff off and go explore immediately. The room was a little smaller than the one I had in Osaka, but it was fine and comfy for one person. Location was great. Near a bunch of shopping streets, subways, and most importantly, a Family Mart. Recommended!

Yelp
Terrific and convenient location. This hotel is located in the heart of a bustling section of Kyoto. Though the hotel has its own restaurant, there are many more restaurants, shops, and bars nearby In fact, its located on a street off a main thoroughfare and along that main road is access to train stations, buses, and taxis as well. NOTE: We arrived at Kyoto Station via Shinkansen, and the hotel is about 15 minutes away via taxi. We arrived at about 100pm, and unfortunately early check-in was not an option that day. Thankfully, the hotel was holding/stowing suitcases of other guests as well and kindly held our luggage until check-in time. Room AMENITIES included: *Flat screen television *Small refrigerator *Desk and chair *Small sitting area with sofa, chair and footrest *Spacious bathroom with overhead shower and tub *Comfortable beds The hotel also has a restaurant on the basement level that serves a breakfast buffet which we took advantage of on the day of our departure. The selection was a mix of Western and Japanese fare, though there was more variety from the home country. I appreciated the choices of juices, coffee, and tea for diners as well. SERVICE: Overall, service was quite good. Staff at the front desk was helpful and courteous, and we appreciated the assistance in holding our luggage on our days of arrival and departure. We were also thankful they were able to call us a taxi to take us to Kyoto Station on our departure day. side NOTE: The hotel is within walking distance to the Gion geisha district/area. BOTTOM LINE: Convenient location. Helpful and courteous staff. Very satisfactory breakfast buffet at hotel restaurant.

Yelp
The good: Modern clean hotel in a great location. This was recommended by relatives who have stayed here before. The bad: Unfortunately, hotel is not good for families. We reserved two rooms as we are traveling with young children and they did not give us rooms on the same hotel floor. When we asked if this could be fixed they could not find a solution. If traveling with family or booking multiple rooms would consider other hotel.

Yelp
Awesome hotel in a prime location. Lots of great restaurants and shopping areas nearby. Central location to the major shrines and attractions of Kyoto. I stayed in this hotel for one night. It's a very modern hotel. I used adoba to book my stay and it was $140 a night. We stayed in the top floor in a corner room and it was spacious. The most spacious hotel room I've had in Japan. All the furniture appeared new and the room was very clean. One of their pillows for each bed was a water pillow... it was amazing. Never slept with a water pillow but it kept my head and shoulder cool. A+ sleep. WiFi is free; however, WiFi was weak in our room. It was strong in the lobby. Another con was the lack of an iron in the room. I didn't bother calling so you may be able to get one with a simple phone call but it was strange not having one in the room. The hotel staff was very friendly. We arrived early and couldn't check into our rooms yet, so they held our bags and even asked if we had any fragile items in it. The concierge spoke English and gave insightful advice.

Yelp
The Royal Park Kyoto is an amazing hotel. One of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip to Japan. The location is perfect near the subway and major areas you want to visit. Gion is right there with Michelin restaurants galore. The room was clean and modern. I loved the tub in the bathroom which I used everyday during our stay. Lobby is very modern with iPads for guests to use for Internet access. Overall, highly highly recommended hotel for your stay in Kyoto! Luxury and location, what else can you ask for?

Yelp
Definitely a good stay! They have staff that speak English, which is definitely helpful. The rooms are pretty nice and I don't really have complaints other than the fact that the Wi-Fi didn't work a lot of the time... The location is awesome. It's right next to a lot of cool places and within walking distance of others. The mall across the street is definitely a good place to stop by if you're staying here!

Yelp
Really convenient location! There's a convenience store a few steps away, a bakery right next door, and plenty of restaurants across the street (including a curry house). It's also a short walking distance to the bus stops and shopping area. Hotel room was clean with comfy beds. Can't complain.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Very nice I have no complaints, its central to shops and the trains. They were also able to arrange for my luggage to be forwarded to the next hotel. It was very quite and I would def stay again. They have coin laundry which is helpful.

Yelp
We stayed here 4 nights. Rooms were cleaned well, beds were firm and comfortable. The staff were very helpful with daily travel plans and sightseeing. Very convenient location to local bus stops and subway station, as well as the Shin Kyogoku Shopping Arcade and Nishiki Market area. We needed a taxi to get here from Kyoto Station, cost was Y1500. There are several bakery cafes nearby, a grocery market next door, and a drug store across the street. Room is a bit on the small side, but this is Japan. It was very comfortable for my husband and myself, and was a great value for the money.

An amazing hotel. Located close to everything from shops to eating with a train station close to get to anything else. Service was impeccable!!

Yelp
Lovely hotel and it's in middle of everything in Kyoto:) this area looks like a lot of fun, good eats, and shopping!
