On the Grid : Royale Eatery

"According to their website, this eatery serves “Burgers that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true.” Royale takes pride in the scrumptious dishes they serve to their customers - tuck into anything from an El burro burger topped with chorizo and chipotle sauce or a Miss Piggy with a dollop of guacamole and bacon. Quirky décor and menus that resemble Beatrix Potter books make this restaurant a must on any Cape Town foodie bucket list. They’re situated right at the top of Long Street so you can’t miss them." - Yellow Door Collective

Had to check out The Royale in Pleasant Hill. The vibe was elegant and relaxed, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food had a unique fusion of flavors from different cuisines, was fresh, tasty, and well-done. The cocktail was excellent with a great presentation. Overall, the service and food were good, but it was a bit on the pricier side, a place worth visiting.

Google
Fusion breakfast/brunch place with ube pancakes chicken, and waffle, matcha waffles, etc. chicken and waffles was the highlight. Moist and marinated overnight for tenderness and flavor. Omelette rice was spicy with medium rare steak. My matcha waffles with azuki was balance of sweetness with a touch of bitter matcha, just right. Looking forward to trying evening dinner in may. Friendly staff and proprietor. Music inside is a touch loud. Otherwise great, we’ll be back.

I visited this restaurant for brunch on a weekday. The place wasn’t too crowded, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was equally impressive. I highly recommend the tom yum paella and the croffle for dessert. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the chairs were simply amazing—the most comfortable I’ve ever sat in at a restaurant. I recommend this place 10/10

Google
Saw posts and photos about this restaurant and it looked intriguing even a little fancy for a breakfast place. We enjoyed the decor especially the many gold themed items from the utensils right down to the drinking straws! The unique edible flower garnishes that accompanied many of the drinks and plates was also a nice touch. We ordered several things to try including the omurice with sirloin. It was my first time finally trying an an omurice omelette, and while the center wasn't runny like I've seen in video's of the egg being cut open along the top and soaking into the rice, (overcooked?) it was still tender in the middle with a good flavor. My kids each ordered hot chocolates and really enjoyed the cute bear glasses they were served in. We also tried the ROYALE's bacon which was delicious! To drink I ordered a Super Tom Yum Mary and my wife ordered a grapefruit mimosa, we both enjoyed our drinks as well as the presentation to make them look nice. While we were eating the owner came over and chatted with us, asked us how we found out about this place, and even let us know they were considering expanding to dinner menus/hours, which we will very much look forward to! The food is on the pricy side, but considering the name and theme of this restaurant that should be expected.

Google
This place was a pleasant surprise. The food was good and the service was excellent. They had one of the best chai lattes that I've ever had. This is a place I would definitely revisit again for some brunch. I had the tofu scramble and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken and waffles was a favorite of my aunt's.

What a gem! Everything about this place is so thoughtful and done with such care. The staff are lovely and the cuisine is varied and delicious. The environment is calm and welcoming; a touch of elegance without being snobby or pretentious. Absolutely reasonable prices and much higher quality than any chain.

Google
Easily one of the best brunch spots we’ve ever been to! Every dish and drink was executed to perfection. The Tom Yum Paella was a standout—an incredible balance of spicy and sour flavors. The pancakes were unique, served with matcha sauce and fresh berries, and the chicken & waffles were top-class—crispy on the outside, unbelievably tender inside. The atmosphere is just as impressive as the food—beautiful decor with great attention to detail. The staff were super friendly and made the experience even better. Highly recommend this place!

Google
The first time visiting the Royale was a really good experience 😋😋. From greeted at the door to a nice comfortable chairs that swivel. The waitresses were wonderful 😊 informational, kind, and very helpful on making food choices. The food was awesome. You wouldn't believe the different flavors that will dance all over your pallet. One thing compliments the other. Wow!!! I'm definitely coming back here.

Yelp
Super great customer service, they were so sweet and talkative. They just started serving food during dinner time as well so it's Thursday-Sat 5:30 pm to 9 pm. Y'all should really come check it out :')

Yelp
Upmarket brunch and dinner spot. Interior, food, drinks, and service couldn't be better. Everything we ate was delicious and presentation was stunning. Staff were all very welcoming and attentive. Great experience from start to finish.

Yelp
I'm not sure why it's got such a higher review. We got CA omelet with no cheese and no avocado. The batter had weird maple syrup on it and the stuff was not as nice . I wish I had a better experience coming here for my birthday celebration.

Yelp
The food was really yummy and had lots of flavor. The service was amazing! Very attentive and professional. Even with a minor complaint, the service staff took that into consideration and ensured we were satisfied with our dining experience. The ambiance was classy and inviting.

Yelp
A game-time dinner decision to head to Royale before movies last night. Pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I'm a big fan of fusion cuisines and they've done a brilliant job on the dishes we tried (descriptions in photo captions). French, Korean and Japanese fusions were highlighted in these few dishes. Our server Tonya was great and gave good feedback and recommendations. Excited to try the Tom Yum Paella and the Breakfast options next time.

Yelp
Im amazed at all the asian fusion spots in the Concord/Pleasant Hill area. Case in point, the reviews on The Royals were super good. Survey Says: Winner!!!! The food in this place rocks. I have to say that in general, each dish was executed nicely. One of the best things was the amount of fresh and delicious fruit they used to garnish on a number of their dishes. I sampled all of the dishes at the table and each was very craveable. The chicken used in the Benedict and the Waffle dish was so good. Crispy, moist and the breading was yum (cornflakes?). The waffle was crunchy and held the syrup well. The crab used in the omelette was yum. The pancake stack was elevated by the strawbery and matcha. Everything was so dang good! The drinks were fun with a bear theme to them. The double walled bear mugs keep the drinks warm throughout the meal. My fave was the ube drink. It was on the sweeter side but the ube was very noticeable. Just a yum drink. Our waitress Naomi was very gracious and worked really hard. She made sure our table was well attended too. Also the food came out quick and looked amazing. There was little bit of a wait to get in buy they move alot of folks in and out in a timely manner. The restaurant was nicely decorated. The neutral grey tones with white and black accents gave the restaurant an upscale vibe. Very modern but the folks running the place keep it warm and inviting. Parking was okay. Royale is sandwiched between the CVS and Marriot. I can't wait to go back and sample goods!

Yelp
I very much enjoyed brunch at The Royale! We ordered French Toast and fried Chicken Benedict along with ube latte and an iced caramel macchiato. Everything tasted so divine!! The staff were so friendly, checked in on us the perfect amount of times, and the service was quick! The place itself was super cute with modern decor and overall loved my experience here.

Yelp
Came here with friends to try it out. Their vibe is casual yet elegant. Their service is friendly and quick. the menu is interesting. I enjoyed it, but my husband did not, primarily because he likes a traditional breakfast. I'd say they are worth trying at least once to see for yourself.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Flavor was great which is more important than looks. Avocado toast was yummy..potatoes were perfectly done Friend got the crustacean and egg and we both at it all. Ube drink was pretty and the Kandinsky was incredible. I'll be back. Already told parents about it! Cute ambiance and clean and welcoming Staff is super nice! Smiles all around

Yelp
Had brunch with my daughter yesterday, we have been wanting to try this place out and I'm glad we did! The place is really nice and the restaurant is very cute, clean and well lit and clean. The service was excellent. The presentation of the food was very cute and it was delicious. We had to try a few things on the menu just to try... the chicken and waffle was good chicken was tender the waffle we weren't too happy with because of the texture a little grainy not crispy and fluffy. The syrup was amazing. The eggs and potatoes and bacon was OK.i say that because it was not applewood bacon disappointed... The etouffee wad really good there were not skimpy on the crab in the crawfish delicious! Nothing fancy about that. the drinks were delicious and well decorated. The bathrooms were clean and the sink swas outside of the bathroom well decorated and clean.

Yelp
I heard a friend rave about this place. I hadn't even heard about it, but as I drove around the corner the outdoor umbrellas with the fringe caught my attention. My friend said it was expensive so we were prepared for that, but what we didn't expect was the brilliant way food was presented and the quality of the food they offered. We looked at the menu and thought, so another place offering a myriad of food, can these dishes be made well? My husband decided to try the Chicken Waffle and I tried the Ahi Tuna salad. Chicken Waffle ($27) Let me say, my husband usually leaves half the waffle and a quarter of the chicken on his plate. This time he actually ate ALL the chicken and every bit of his waffle. The warm butter syrup was delicious on top of the crispy waffle. The chicken thigh appears to be made Korean style and was juicy and flavorful. The chef added a single nasturtium flower that was eatable. At the end of his meal, my husband said, "It was the best chicken and waffle I have ever had." This declaration was truly epic because he is very critical of food and this Chicken Waffle topped the list. The waitress said this was the#1 dish ordered in their restaurant. My choice was the Ahi Tuna Salad ($22). This was a tuna steak on a bed of orange shoyu salad ( arugula greens and a wonderful vinaigrette salad dressing ) topped with pomegranate seeds with a single nasturtium flower that was eatable. Every bite was delicious! I would definitely order it again! We ordered a decent latte ($5) which was made with whole milk and could have been made with other milk options. It was served in a round glass cup. Yes, the prices were expense, but to be honest, the food was very good and we will return. The Royale far exceeds most of the restaurants in its category in this area for the quality of food and selection . I am glad The Royale opened up its doors in Pleasant Hill. As a foodie, spending money on food in a restaurant that takes pride in the quality of food they serve is worth supporting!! The Royale has only been opened 4 months. As long as the food remains consistently good, I think The Royale has a long future in Pleasant Hill.

Yelp
Fancy Asian fusion breakfast. The decor, furniture, and gold silverware makes this place high end. Pricey items, but presentation is beautiful! Some dishes too pretty to even eat. And the drinks come with an adorable teddy bear ice cube! The staff are prompt and friendly. Kids menu is too fancy for any picky eater. Everything tasted fresh and well cooked. It's definitely on the pricier side, debatable if it's actually worth it. I would come again for the vibe.

Yelp
Super cute spot! The ambiance reminds me of English high tea. Parking is really easy since there is a large lot. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. The bar area and kitchen are open so you can see them working. Service was very friendly. We ordered the ice ube drink, ube pancakes, and the strawberry matcha pancakes. They also have a lot of cocktails. We didn't order any this time. The menu is Asian fusion. Lots of Japanese twists. The presentation is beautiful just like the decor! The ube drink was very sweet. The pancakes were very filling (three thick stacks). The ube pancakes were more of a sauce added on top. Same for the strawberry matcha. The base pancakes are the same. I see why the server asked if we were sure if we both wanted pancakes. I see why this place is so popular.

Yelp
My friends and I had brunch at The Royale this morning for the first time. I arrived around 10:30 am and was surprised the restaurant was not crowded. I put our name down and once my friends arrived, we were seated quickly. Though we were a party of 4, we were seated at the large communal table in the middle of the restaurant. It was a bit noisy and we weren't sure why we were seated there when there were open tables for 4 in the back. For our drinks, we had the lavender latte, caramel macchiato, and ube latte. The ube latte and caramel macchiato both came with a bear shaped ice cube. So adorable! I could taste the ube flavor in the latte and it wasn't overly sweet. I subbed almond milk which is $1 extra. Despite the lavender latte having a coffee appearance in pics online, my friend's just looked like milk with a lavender twig. For our entrees, we had the pancakes with ube sauce, huevos rancheros, etoufée, and chicken nuggets (for one of our friend's 9 yo). Loved the ube sauce on the pancakes - again, not overly sweet and the ube flavor was apparent. The pancakes must have been funfetti, as I noticed red and blue sprinkles inside. Portions were generous and one friend took home leftovers. The chicken nuggets had a spicy sauce that my friend's son didn't like so he just ate the fries and my friends had some of the nuggets. Service was friendly, though they brought my friends' items out before mine. They have some unique (alcoholic) drinks and lunch/dinner entrees I'd love to try, especially the Tom yum paella. Given the size of the paella, I'd order it in a group of 3-4 people. Though I no longer live in the area, I'd come back with my friends who do.

Yelp
So far we only got a couple cocktails and desert. I yelped "espresso martini" which the adults wanted, and the kids wanted to try a dessert. I got the Tiramisu espresso martini, it was SO good, my BFF got a strawberry lemon drop. Which she liked, by the end said was a little too sweet, but liked most of it! The croaffle we ordered with no parm cheese and oil to make it kid friendly. The server said "i know it sounds weird, but it works well together, if you don't like it that way, we will make you a new one" I'm always down for weird food, but my kids aren't. The weirder the better for me lol. Anyway, it was really and she's right, it does work! I've had vanilla ice cream with balsamic glaze, which is a surprising combo as well...and this was a great surprise too! We will be back for brunch!! We are from out of town, so will visit this trip!! Great desert/cocktails/service. Drinks took longer than most, but they clearly put thought and care into them, so i rather wait a little longer for my drink and have a good cocktail than a thrown together fast cocktail. Plus we went Saturday evening which was slower, which being a server myself, makes things weird! I hope this place is usually packed. It's a weird location, so i hope it does well!!

Yelp
Definitely a popular spot + I can see why! There was a bit of a wait, but to be fair, we came here on Memorial Day. We waited about 35 min and were seated inside. The food is absolutely delicious + service was great. There were so many tasty things on the menu, it was hard to decide on what we wanted, but thankfully we were able to make some decisions while we were waiting! The presentation is beautiful, particularly with their drinks (especially The Crown, which is basically like Thai iced tea but with coconut rum--I typically don't drink alcohol but very much enjoyed the sip I tried of this one from my friend!). Would definitely come back again. :)

Yelp
This new establishment will make you walk out feeling like ROYALE-ty! Even the exterior of the restaurant feels classy. The interior is bright and there are fresh flowers on the tables. Even the bathroom looks nice! And get this... not only is the food and drinks super pretty, it tastes delicious too! The chicken and waffles were yummy- I like the honey butter that they provide for the waffles. The chicken is boneless and has a nice crispy batter. The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly and while I enjoyed the fried rice my friend said it was too spicy. So be aware if you're sensitive to spice. The crustacean scramble was good, but nothing spectacular. It only had 2 pieces of shrimp but a good sized lump of shredded crab. The drinks were definitely social media post worthy!! I loved the ube latte and the purple bear sitting on top of the whipped cream was so darn cute!! The garden of Versailles was also really pretty and a good girly drink. And you know you can't go wrong with the tiramisu expresso martini! I was blown away by the friendliness of the staff. They were amazing and went above and beyond. Our water cups were consistently topped off, our food came out fast, and they were very accommodating. I'm excited to come back and try their dinner menu! This place is definitely going on my brunch rotation list!

Yelp
The Royale is such a gem. I'm still dreaming about those strawberry matcha pancakes !! I came here for brunch and everything from the decor to the food to the drinks was great. The interior is sooo pretty. Think velvet lounge chairs, moody lighting, and little luxe touches that make it feel fancy but still cozy. For cocktails, I got the Garden in Versailles, really yummy! If you like fruity drinks, I suggest this. For food, we shared a sweet and savory. The strawberry matcha pancakes were everything I hoped for, fluffy, not too sweet, and that mascarpone cream was so light and complemented it well! We also shared the omurice and it was so savory and satisfying. The steak was super tender and it came in a great portion if you're sharing. Service was really attentive too, which I always appreciate. Overall 10/10 would come back!!

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect but was curious to try this place after eating at The Hangout 10+ times now. In terms of decor and food presentation, 10/10. They tried giving me the final bill to pay without giving me the croffle that I ordered but they were apologetic about it. Overall pricing, I have to say it's pretty darn expensive . I'm not saying it's not worth it, it's just don't come here expecting to pay IHOP prices. Expect to spend roughly $40ish per person, and that's with just getting water as your drink. $50-60 if you get a fancyish drink (whether it's an alcoholic one or not). For example, croffle with vanilla ice cream, value is probably about $6-8, but it costs $18. Even with the price of eggs, crustacean scramble is $30, value is maybe $16 tops. Ube pancakes $24, value is probably $12 max. They're making their money for sure. But just have to remember you don't have to deal with buying ingredients, cooking yourself, don't have to wash dishes, things like that you have to account for as well. But despite that, I do think they're a bit over priced. Just my opinion. But hey everyone goes here, the wait was 43 minutes for us for 3 people and we got there 12:34pm, we weren't seated until 1:17pm. So good for them for pricing things at a price where people are willing to pay because of how good it is. My fried chicken eggs Benedict was super good, felt like a 5 star bite for each bite. Worth $25? Not a chance maybe worth $14-18 tops. Overall, it is what it is price-wise. The food is good. If you want to try it, expect your bill to easily be over $100 for 3+ people. I saw a lot of people order the Classic which is the cheapest item at $20. Comes with 2 eggs, amarosa (purple) potatoes, sourdough toast, bacon or sausage (both if you want for extra $). If you want extra eggs it's $4 per egg makes the dozen eggs for $12 at Safeway seem like a value nowadays. Summary: food's good, I'd eat here again to try other stuff, expensive, kinda sorta worth the price, trying to justify in my head because the food tastes good haha.

Yelp
What a great find! Especially to celebrate our BFF's birthday! At first glance, it gave off an upscale, expensive ambiance! Everything looked very modern and trendy! However the prices of the fabulous dishes on their menu weren't bad at all! And each dish we ordered, as well as the drinks were very good! The host was great in accommodating our party of 4 without reservations for Sunday brunch. The service was great and the staff was very nice in helping us celebrate our girlfriend's special day! Thank you so much!

Yelp
More stars for how beautiful things are here! Immaculate interior, beautiful choices of color, and total eye candy plating. The husband and I walked in before going to watch a movie, and the service was very pleasant. We were greeted and seated immediately. We had some time to go through the menu and our drink orders were taken first and my drink was brought to me rather quickly. Then our food order was taken, and that came out at a decent time as well. Drink-wise, I tried their iced Ube latte. It came with an edible purple bear. An ice bear. So cute!!! The drink was so pretty that I wanted to try their iced matcha and used Thai tea as those may also have corresponding color ice bears as well. Tasty, not too sweet. Loved the whipped cream on top as well. For food, we tried their La Coasta Tartine (Smoked Atlantic salmon, kuro tobiko, wasabi-miso cream cheese, ricotta, pickle onion, pickle mustard seed, fresh dill, garlic confit, sourdough toast, fried capers, butter lettuce, wide arugula, lemon vinaigrette) and their The King's (Belgian waffle, PBJ, banana froster brûlée, pecan candies, mascarpone, mixed berries, sweet crumble, candy bacon). I enjoyed the tartine, especially everything on top of the bread. Loved the different flavors and textures. The husband liked his waffle as well. I tried their mascarpone and some berries and found it tasty as well. What really intrigued me was their cocktail menu. I'd love to come back and try all of them (different trips of course). Too bad I'm the only drinker in my direct household, but if I take the husband and kids here next time, each can order a drink and I'll drink them all. ;) I'd also love to try their paella as well. Actually make that almost their whole menu. If I'd live really closeby, I'd definitely be going here by myself until I try everything I'd like to try!

Yelp
Hands down one of the best brunch spots around. My friends and I had brunch here to celebrate my birthday. We weren't able to reserve and had to take our chances to do a walk in and luckily the wait was not long. They were very busy and the restaurant was full. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. All of their dishes had excellent presentation. Super cute glasses and cutlery. The food was great!! Very tasty and well presented. My fave was the Tom Yum Paella. I love the taste but I must say, it was not with paella rice and it was not a lot. We also ordered the omurice, ube pancakes and Croffle. The omurice was good, but I think next time I can do without. Ube pancakes were good, taste like cake. The Croffle was so delicious and serves woth ice cream. I ordered the crown drink and it was very good!!

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. Now considering what I paid I was expecting a higher quality of attention to detail and taste. The meet had a lot of fat. Good flavor but very fatty. The rice wasn't hard in some areas even large clusters and tasted okay in others. The eggs were decent but not $$$$ worthy. Everything here is priced on the higher end and if I'm getting higher end food I don't mind. Yet that's not what I got. Service was good. Friendly and the place was clean and lovely decor. My favorite part was the drink. So cute and quite an experience. I probably won't be coming back here. There are so many other places in this area that offer great food for same or better pricing.

Yelp
JUST OPENED FOR DINNER!!! Check their hours! Came here for a second time to celebrate our anniversary! This time for dinner. Everything was still amazing. There was nice dinner soft music and just an overall nice atmosphere. Their dinner menu is slightly different than that of their brunch. We ordered Fried Burrata, Maitake Mushroom Confit, Duck Confit, Mushroom Gnocchi, Japanese Curry with Fried Chicken, Etouffee, and a Croffle with Ice Cream for dessert. Definitely a must if you are looking for good food!

Yelp
This place felt sophisticated like a hotel. The padded chairs swiveled similar to a hotel lobby. Instantly, it felt cozy and private. The menu had several interesting choices, so my friend and I had to share several items. That was an excellent idea, and I highly recommend it. We enjoyed the crab omelette, but it wasn't special than others I've tasted. Didn't have a lot of crab to taste, when that's what you were paying for. The ube pancake was more of a surprise. I've ordered similar ones, which restaurants drowned with dark purple sauce, that looked artificial, to try and mask dry pancakes under it. The Royale Ube pancakes, were THE BEST I've ever had! The sauce wasn't liquid, it was more like whipped cream, a lighter natural purple, similar to a sliced purple yam root. The ube "mousse" was not painfully sweet that made your teeth quiver. The pancake was so soft and fluffy. You didn't need to drown it with any sauce. It was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection! How do I begin with the drinks? The presentation and flavor seemed like it came from a Drink Masters! It's a whole new experience that will surprise you. You need to experience it for yourself.

Yelp
** Evening Dinner starts May 1st ** It's a cutesy spot for delicious brunch food. The moment you enter the doors it goes beyond the typical brunch time experience. The decor is gives off old school glamour from the velvet couch to the hanging chandeliers and wall art. The aesthetic is very nostalgic with a mix of booths, counter with bar stools and small tables. The food ranges from UPSCALE breakfast items, burger and fries and coffee shop drinks. It's a romantic joint not for tee shirts, sweat pants and sneakers. Ladies put on your summer dresses matched with your mini bag and enjoy the experience. It would be top notch to have a patio setup especially during summer evenings when it's warm out. They will be offering dinner starting May 1st. Bring your friends , bring a date or go alone it's wonderful! What I ordered .. crustacean scramble it was smothered in a delicious sauce, crab, shrimp, capers it came with a side of purple potatoes and toast AH'MAZING !!! My only disappointment was sides are a la carte no order pancakes, waffles on the side. The breakfast meats are very expensive and not included with your breakfast item. (see menu) PRICE: very expensive SPACE: Beautiful FOOD: Delicious PARKING: limited STAFF: Attentive SIDE DISHES: a la carte (expensive)

Yelp
Daaang ok fancy! Well well we'll, what a nice spot for brunch!! Came with a group, and we all got something different and all really enjoyed our food. In particular, I had La Costa Tartine (fancy smoked salmon on toast), what a treat. It tastes just as decadent as it looks, for sure. The rest of the group got: the smash burger, tuna salad, French toast, fried chicken sandwich, and chili bomb omurice with steak. And how cute are the ube and matcha lattes with the little ice cube bears?!
google avatar

Gina H.

Yelp
This review is a bit old but The Royale is such a cute brunch spot. We dined around back when they first opened and were very impressed by the interior. Lattes were so adorable and delicious, burger was okay, but that Tom yum paella was truly a star! I've had some really bad paella, super burnt or super wet, but this one was perfect! They really killed it with this dish. The green sauce that they pair it with was sooooo goood. Do yourself a favor & order that paella!

Yelp
I decided to try this restaurant for Sunday brunch. They do not take reservations. Arrived around 12:30 PM & there were about 3 parties in front of us. We waited for 15 mins & sat at a bar table which sat 2 people. We were given a choice to wait for a table but choose to sit at the bar table. The high stool bar tables were was next to the kitchen which had glass so you can watch the kitchen. I find watching the kitchen fun & you can see all the food orders coming out. The Hostess & service staff were very nice. The restaurant decor was nice & they have a full bar and nice selection of cocktails, coffee & tea lattes. There is no outdoor seating. The menu is what caught my interest, definitely an Asian fusion place, but they also had served Etoufeé & Paella dishes. I ordered the Holy Chili Bomb Omurice w/Sirloin steak. I am not a person that typically like spicy food, but I wanted to try it. The French omelet was a soft omelette, nicely cooked. The steak was cooked medium, I am more a medium rare person, but I did not tell them to cook it medium rare. The steak was good & tender still. The rice was a basil fried rice, but this is where the heat came from. At first the heat was not bad, but the more I ate the spicer it got. I only ate 1/2 of my dish, because I could not handle the heat, which they tell you in the title of the dish, Chili Bomb rice. I still enjoyed the dish. Not sure if I would try it again because of the spiciness. I took the rest home, going to try eating it later. My niece ordered The Ambassador, which is your typical America breakfast, 2 egg, candied bacon, purple potatoes & toast w/homemade butter. It was a tasty dish if you want a typical American style breakfast. The food was good & the coffee & tea lattes were good. Some drinks were served in smaller glasses. Like the Thai tea latte, but the glass they served it in was cute. The price, in my opinion is a little higher than a brunch place in this area. All the food coming out of kitchen looked good. I gave it a 3 star for now. I will be revisiting to try more dishes to see if my rating changes. *Note we left right before closing 2:30 PM & we noticed that the majority of the serving staff was busy cleaning up & it took a bit to get their attention for the bill or for anything else. It may have been because we were in the bar area.

Yelp
Service: 10/5 Food: 3/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Value: 2/5 I got excited when I saw this spot nearby after I had worked up an appetite from shopping. The menu looked interesting, the place looked all swanky and spankin' new, and the staff were all so sweet. But it took less than one full bite of the Avocado Toast I ordered before I realized the toast wasn't toasted, which was super puzzling. Beyond that, it was bland and their version of breakfast potatoes leaves much to be loved. So, I kept it real with my lovely waiter and told her I wasn't feeling my dish. She was awesome and offered to exchange the lackluster meal for something more my steeze. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and another staff member even came over to make sure I liked it (I did, actually! It wasn't like over-the-moon, but it was def doable) and was enjoying my time overall. So again, the customer service is awesome. But the food itself didn't wow me--those prices did! And not in a great way! They did look like a fun brunch spot for a Sunday morning with friends, but I'm not sure what I would eat.

Yelp
First time eating here and I was so impressed with the service, food, decor, and overall experience here. I later realized that this was the old Boston Market. This is a great place to grab breakfast, however, a bit on the pricey side for brunch. Let's just say that if you're looking for a meal for less than $20 this isn't the place. However, even if you spend a few extra dollars, the food and service is worth it. I ordered the iced ube latte and fried chicken benedict. The ube latte was a bit too much on the sweet side for me but it was delicious and I loved the presentation. The fried chicken Benedict was absolutely tasty and delicious. I'd definitely order that dish again when I come back, especially to try out the drinks. Their cocktail selection was very tempting. The service was excellent. The servers were very attentive and friendly. I have no complaints in that area. The bathrooms were kept clean. Plenty of parking. Loved the aesthetic. Food was amazing. 5 stars. Can't wait to try their other drinks.

Yelp
Heard about this new brunch spot in the area and decided to take my mom for her birthday. Came on a week day around 11:30am and was seated right away. The restaurant had a cute ambiance and had an open kitchen layout. Although we came for brunch, my sister and I decided to order items from their signature dishes. We ordered the Majestic which is a braised short rib or lamb, served with garlic mashed potatoes, grilled broccolini, roasted baby carrots in a red wine sauce. We also ordered the Tom Yum Paella, which consisted of prawns, shrimps, mussels, and calamari served on rice and it had this fire green sauce to go with. This is on the spicer side but so delicious and flavorful! My mom ordered the California Omelette. The eggs were nice and fluffy and not over cooked. The potatoes were nice and crispy and the smashed avocado was fresh and paired well with the omelette. For our drinks, we ordered a hot chocolate, Iced Ube Latte and Iced Matcha Latte. The hot chocolate came in a cute little bear mug. As for the lattes, these were served with cute little bears! The drinks were so good but I did like the Ube over the Matcha. Overall, the food selections were flavorful and had good serving size. I will definitely come back and try other items on the menu.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting, and while the atmosphere is beautiful fancy, bright, and definitely Instagram-worthy the experience didn't fully live up to the hype. It was really busy when my boyfriend and I arrived, which is fine, but the check-in and seating process was a mess. It felt like they weren't even going by the waitlist. People who arrived after us were getting seated first, and names were being crossed off when guests hadn't even been called yet. It was super unorganized and frustrating. Once we were finally seated, the food presentation was great, and I really enjoyed the iced latte it actually tasted like real coffee! We ordered the chicken & waffles and the Smashburger. Unfortunately, the chicken seemed a bit undercooked, and the burger didn't really have that "smash" feel or flavor. The service was just okay our server barely checked in on us. Overall, the vibe is nice and there's potential here, but they really need to work on organization, consistency, and customer service.

Yelp
Service is great. Food, only if you are into very sugary stuff. This restaurant has cute drinks . The food is overpriced and not what you expect . The food doesn't only need to look good but needs to be good. I've been here 3 times and I've yet to see anything that really makes sense for me to pay like a high end gourmet prices . Just bc you can decorate a plate doesn't make it gourmet . It's worth a try once but honestly you get turned off if you asked for something and they say it's $3.00 extra . There was a lady next to ask for 3 items a la cart added to 24.00 dollars . Check out the menu . In today's economy this place is pretty pricey for what it wants to be.

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday morning to avoid any rush of the weekend and was an amazing choice. The staff was warm and welcoming and even when a drink we ordered wasn't up to their standards, they insisted they remake it again. The place was clean and the decor was great. The kandisky was the first drink we ordered and it was an experience its self. With every sip you take, a small oil drop is supposed to be accompanied by that sip to bring out different flavors. It was amazing. The second drink we got was the garden of Versailles. Also a fun fruity drink. Almost like a fruity pico sour with floral notes! Sooo good. The crustacean scramble was well cooked with the eggs being the perfect consistency and the seafood was fresh and well paired with the perfectly cooked eggs. And the smash burger was a flavor bomb in itself on a warm plate accompanied by what seems like a cheese sauce but not too over powering. We also got the craffle which was made to perfection. Texture was overwhelming good. Definitely making this a spot to visit again

Yelp
So...ok, the name Royale is fitting. I didn't go here with any real expectations. I was just looking for a place in the area to grab a quick bite. And wow. This restaurant is a vibe. The decor is lovely. You can see the live and thought pit into this space. The chairs are cool. It's like a lounge, but bright and light. We were greeted by a sweet gentleman and he led us to our table and pulled my chair out for me!!! I felt so special (turns out he was the owner). The server came right away with water and menus. The menus are fun to explore. The drink menu is unique and fun. It took us a minute to order cause there were too many choices for us. So we agreed we had to go back even before we ordered. I had the Dear Diana and my hubby had the Tirumiso Espresso. Both were great! We went against the waitress recommendations cause we didn't have much time . Hubby had Huevos Rancheros and though not traditional, it was really good and packed with flavor. I had the crustacean Scramble and the eggs were delicious and cooked in the French style and lots of crab. The sourdough toast comes with a homemade butter that kind of tastes like butterscotch. I wasn't a big fan of that but it was interesting. The purple potatoes that come with most dishes were really good too. A little sweet and good with the aioli. We cleared our plates and finished with candy bacon for dessert. Will definitely go back for the Paella and the chicken and waffles. The food has French and Asian influences but then there's also Spanish and soul food influences. It was a new experience for me. The service was outstanding. The food and drinks came out at a nice pace. Water was always refilled. The owners and servers checked in with us to not just see if we need anything, but to ask about our experience. I loved that.

Yelp
Decided to try someplace new for lunch. Interested in Thai fusion. The Royale took over the old Boston market in Pleasant Hill. There's lots of free parking so that was a plus. First of all, walking in the decor is beautiful. It's so clean and has just the right amount of decorations that are not overly powering. The swivel chairs are a nice treat where we don't have to move too much to sit comfortably. We ordered an iced Ube latte with a really cute bear in it, a Irish coffee with less whipped cream, the crustacean scramble and the chicken waffle. I like the Irish coffee, the best, and on my chicken and waffle the berries were all high-quality the waffle itself was a little dense for me and the chicken was really succulent and not too greasy. That's a part that I liked . The breading was a little too much for me but the chicken saved the dish. I think I'll try the avocado toast next time.

Yelp
Very cute new brunch spot from the owners of Lapisara in SF. No wait on Saturday at 12 noon but the restaurant was always full. Love the cute decor inside. Fast and friendly service. Met the owner too and she was so sweet. Lots of cocktail options and Thai-fusion brunch food that is seafood-forward (my favorite!). Food came out fast, even the paella! Tom Yum paella is very tasty with big portions of seafood. BF also enjoyed the smash burger (but not be truffle mushrooms inside which I ate bc I love mushrooms!) Not pictured but got the crab omelette (highly recommend, large pieces of Dungeness crab and very fluffy omelette). Candy bacon could be crispier - a little soggy - but that really was the only thing I could say that was not great. Saw so many pics of the cute ice bears on the Matcha and Ube lattes so of course we had to get them! You can make it less sweet too. Next time I'll come to try cocktails!

Yelp
Lovely new upscale brunch spot that took over the space where Boston Market was. I was impressed with the decor. It was busy and there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. I added my name to a waitlist around 12:15pm on a Sunday, and it was about 25 minutes wait for a party of 2. The menu has a good selection of enticing brunch items. I got the following: Crab Omelette (4/5) - I was pretty happy with this main course. The lemon butter cream sauce went well with the crab & eggs. On the side, I liked the red AmaRosa potatoes in particular. Side of Royale's Bacon (3.5/5) - this was surprisingly spicy, so just be aware of that before you order it! My friend and I didn't like the spice. Hot Ube Latte with oat milk (4/5) - this was delicious, but the bear head-shaped cup it was served in, while cute, contained a much smaller serving than the standard size of a latte (like 6-8oz at most instead of 12-16oz) I saw pictures of the iced latte coming in a much larger mason jar, but that contained dairy, so I opted for the hot version with oat milk. I'll probably return to try more items, but this place is quite pricey.

Yelp
Was recommended by my sister who came not too long ago. Decided to come with our other sisters for Saturday brunch. They were busy so we waited for 40 mins for a table to open up. -Iced Ube Latte (5/5): Heaven! Not overly sweet with an edible ice bear adorning the whipped cream. -French Toast (4.5/5): Delicious mascarpone, berry gel & beurre noisette (brown butter) glazed the challah bread accompanied by sweet mixed berries and candied pecans. -Chicken Waffle (4/5): Chicken was moist, juicy and had a beautiful crunch to it. Waffle was a bit dry, so dipped in the French toast's sauces and it was really good. -Tom Yum Paella (5/5): Thin layer of rice baked with morsels of seafood. Heavy on tom yum flavor coupled with lemon and the citrus lime chili sauce - divine! -Ultimate Smashburger (5/5): Finger-licking Wagyu beef patty in between brioche buns drowned in garlic aioli... messy but so good. -Korean Fried Chicken (4.5/5): what can go wrong with succulent KFC sandwiched between soft, buttery brioche bun? Love their cream and brown chairs that swivels! I also love establishments with handwashing station outside of (3) restrooms! Super friendly servers and customer service. Definitely will come back and try other items!

Yelp
Food was delicious! The price is steep for breakfast. A table of 4 with avocado toast being two of the entrees was $140. I ordered a decaf lavender latte and was charged $3.00 for decaf shot. All is asked for was my latte to be decaffeinated. I'm not sure how that happened. I would return but would not order drinks. Their latte was served in a cute bear cup, which was prob 4oz, not worth the price.

Yelp
This restaurant is situated in a promising location with ample parking making it convenient for guests. My friend and I had dinner here and were thrilled that their menu had many options for sharing which gave us the opportunity to try different items. Each dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The service was amazing. Our server was polished, attentive, and professional throughout the evening. We felt valued when one of the partners of the restaurant came by to personally welcome us. Overall, this restaurant delivered an elevated dining experience.

Yelp
Adorable. The ambience and presentation is perfection. We are so happy to have The Royale come to Pleasant Hill. I ordered the crab omelet and would certainly order it again. The breakfast potatoes were a miss for me but tbh, I wasn't going to eat any potatoes so it wasn't a huge deal. Biggest piece of feedback is there needs to be a kids breakfast menu. Sure there are lunch options but that's not enough. PH is a family suburb. I'd recommend this minor tweak to cater to your audience. We will be back!

Yelp
Give 3 stars for the food Candy bacon could be thicker and sweeter The majestic was okay it was very savory plate. And the chicken sausage was okay as well The Food was okay but it did not have me raving or wanting more. Over all the presentation of the food and the restaurant was very modern and beautiful. Service was very quick and helpful And for sure on my next visit I'll try out some other food on the menu.

Yelp
Such a cute asthetic restaurant. Saw this place as we were passing by last time so decided to give it a try. Wait time on a saturday wasn't bad it was like 5 minutes for 4 ppl. I had the matcha latte which was delicious , loved the little bear ice on it. I had the chicken waffle. Waffle with the syrup and fruits were delicious but wasn't a big fan of the chicken part. Chicken was nice and crisp but too oily and just didn't like the taste of it. The fries tasted like mcdonald's fries but overall not too bad. Service was alright.

Yelp
Definitely a breakfast/brunch spot to visit. The ice bears for a few drinks really drew me in. I've had one before but all the way out in Elk Grove so glad they are closer to the bay now and with more to choose from. Their presentation for all their drinks and dishes are very beautifully presented. A bit pricey but worth a treat. Great location for friends and family as well as day dates. There is another different breakfast/brunch spot near by I wanted to check out but the other spot had a lot more traffic with waiting time, loud and very busy. This location is a lot more calm with cool vibes rather than a busy crowded area. Parking here though is also busy with few spots available. I had a bit of a walk just to say the least. Their chicken we ordered was good, like the breading is cooked with but mine with the Benedict seemed very breaded and I didn't really feel like the chicken was fully cooked just in my opinion. I brought the leftovers home and still couldn't finish the rest. The drinks were too cute to drink, probably needed a little bit more sweet but overall yummy to drink with because of the presentation. Cute bear themed ice and cup. I have these at home but for an outing it felt more enjoyable. I do want to come back for the Bloody Mary and the smash burgers too but next time for sure!!

Yelp
Tried this place today with the fam. First off, I thought they did a good job transforming this old Boston Market to a very nice, classy setting. As for the food, we ordered - Tom Yum Paella (good for 2), Sirloin with the Omurice, Popcorn Chicken and a The Royale cocktail. Paella was excellent. Definitely not traditional though as you get hit with lemongrass for a nice tom yum flavor profile. Sirloin was delicious, cooked medium and slathered with gravy. It was tender and nicely seasoned. But the highlight of this dish is the omelet and fried rice. Omelet had a completely different texture, its super fluffy. Fried rice was great and totally complements the steak. The Royale was great, not super sweet and with a perfect amount of alcohol! Service was also excellent. Overall we had a great dinner and definitely looking forward to coming back. Although it is a bit on the pricey side, I think the quality of food they are serving are well worth it. Also pricing is pretty consistent with other restaurants around PH/Walnut Creek area. Definitely give them a try!
