The Rum Kitchen Brixton

The cocktails are very nice but don't bother with the food. It doesn't taste like authentic carribean food. The cutlery was dirty and the service was ridiculously slow. Dirty dishes will be left on your table for hours. Also £4 for a handful of chips is just ridiculous.

I had a lovely afternoon, the food was great & the atmosphere was lovely. My server was Ellis he gave us a lovely dinning experience and made sure we were happy with our meal and good for drinks. Very professional & efficient, as he memorized our whole order without making any mistakes. Would highly recommend if your looking for a great chilled spot with good energy.

5 Stars worthy if the Take Away packaging was secure/durable. EVERYTHING I ORDERED WAS IN STOCK! Very Pleased Indeed! Customer Service was polite and swift. Take Away Service was on point. Food was delicious and still HOT when I got home despite the unpractical cardboard boxes. Food with hot gravy does not serve well at home after travelling in a paper box! Makes nil common sense as the gravy soaks through paper. Luckily I managed to get it indoors before the paper delivery bag split open! In summing up: I have to say Rum Kitchen (over the years) has been a place my SisStarQueens and I frequently attended for good food, good vibes and good music after dinner! The Doubles will ALWAYS bring me back as nowhere other than my home country makes and serves this dish soooo good! So sweet and tasty, reminds me of Trinidad & Tobago!

The staff was rude, asked if I was ok as I walked towards the bar. I did not want to believe she was profiling me until she asked if I wanted to use the toilet. Meaning I did not look like I could afford their services, made worse by her male colleague who said she works there so she could ask me whatever rude question and not asking what I wanted to be served. Clueless bunch of staff with little or no knowledge of customer experience. The drink was ok and environment was good too.

Music is great here, party vibes restaurant. Sometimes is a bit loud. Food comes in large portions. Deliciously marinated chicken. Cocktails are nice. There's happy hour on selected cocktails before 7pm so £6 - 7 £ cocktails. The service was quick and friendly.

Stopped by on a Monday night for a quick bite to eat. I was NOT disappointed!! Delicious, tender jerk chicken. Huge portion sizes. The jerk bowl came with a slaw and beans and rice. The jerk was spicy enough to make my nose tingle, but not painful. The beans and rice helped balance things out. Even on a Monday, the music was Litty and the staff was super friendly and helpful. This spot it’s definitely worth a trip to Brixton. The drinks were well-made and delicious (but potent).

Me my partner visited here on the off chance we stumbled into the little block where it’s located, which is really nicely presented all enclosed painted nicely and gives off a very good vibe. We were seated quickly and there was a wide variety of food and drinks. We tried a few of the cocktails reasonable priced and tasted good. Me and my partner both really enjoyed our food how ever it was very spicy compared to other places like turtle bay, good size portions and presented well so no complaints. Overall a lovely restaurant well decorated and placed would highly recommend and visit again.

Wonderful! Servers were really friendly and accommodating and the food was great, I enjoyed what I ordered. Would definitely come again. ( also very disability friendly which was a plus!)

Yow guys listen when in London and looking For the most chill Spot please give this place a try... ( Taylor the manger your the best, customer service is key and you embody that ) from the bouncers Sampson and Rodger to the rest the staff big up yourselves. ( 12-12:30pm) the drinks are fire the ambiance, I will be backkkkkkkk!!!!

Issa vibe!!! The atmosphere is welcoming, the food is delicious and the drinks are top tier. If I'm ever back in London I'd definitely check out this spot.

Visiting from NY and I've tried a lot of Caribbean food there however I would have to say the food here taste pretty better. The ambiance and vibes was definitely on point especially with the music. The service was fairly good.The bartender ended up pretty much waiting our table and he was dope and then our waitress came by as her shift ended and she turned out to be cool as she had recommended places to visit in the city. I's definitely come here on a late Friday night again.

Burnt beyond belief and service was slow- only saving grace was semi decent cocktails but no alcohol can wash away the burnt taste. Expect more at that price point. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!

Ok, so this is a mixed review and I did promise I would write one......so here it goes. (Just a side note, we went to the Notting hill branch last year for a birthday gathering and enjoyed so much that we decided to do the same again this year but change location, so making a good impression truly does allow for repeat custom.) First impression, Great!!!!! I was greeted at the door by Ryū (sorry if misspelled) who seated me at the reserved space for a birthday booking for 8pm. The party was taking some time to arrive so I had this crazy idea to go to the bar to get a drink! Here's where things get interesting. The barmaid made an impressive cocktail called a Zombie as I patiently waited and I asked her what it was then asked for a menu to see the cocktails available. I stood right in front of her, she ignored me after that, so I walked off as I was still waiting for the party to arrive. They took a while longer so I plucked up the courage to go back and actually order a drink! Apparently that's where I fkxxxed up!!!! I asked the barmaid for the menu again. Shock horror, I tried to order a drink from the bar.........where drinks are made lol (Maria I think her name is) all I know is she's about 5'7 stocky build fair skinned lady, if you could call her that!!! Well anyway she decided to scream in my face and tell me "l'm a bartender, not a waitress hunny. Go ask one of them for a drink" It wasn't what she said, it was how she said it! I've never been to the Brixton branch in South London before and I came from North London to have some Mufasa from Lion King B*tch shout at me and embarras me in public. The funny thing is, I apologized to her!!!!!! More than once as I wasn't familiar with the protocol and her outburst was soo outrageous that everybody else stopped to see what was going on. Dear management, she ain't the one, let her go!!! Vanessa and Ryū apologized on her behalf for HER DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR!!!! They offered to take my order as I still patiently waited. I ordered a RudeBoy cocktail in her honour! Laughed about it, Ryū kindly charged my phone and said the drink was on the house. Once again, Thank you. So eventually the party arrives, behind the scenes a lot was going on and I felt for the team and thank them for their honesty and their efforts to ensure my cousin (the birthday girl) had a good time. Air conditioner vent was leaking, BADLY!!!!! Can't blame the staff for that, but I doubt that's a good look on your establishment not to mention health and safety violation. Major side eye!!! Anyway night continues and we were looked after inspire of the issues such as starters running out completely/no rice n peas after Jerk bowls were ordered. I felt so sorry for the girl in the kitchen, it was a rough shift, at one point I wanted to help out in the kitchen, FOR FREE. Vibe was good, we were looked after also want to Highlight Aaliyah, such an angel, thank you. Back to the Wicked witch of the West. Who now left the bar, to clear tables, apparently bar staff can do that but can't take orders At - The - Bar. I was sitting at the table as she cleared in front of me and she didn't say a word! This would have been a perfect opportunity for her to apologize for HER behaviour, especially as most of the party was outside smoking at the time, but the coward in her wouldn't die! Such as life I guess. Night continues, more drinks and on the way out we said our good-byes to the stars in the team. I promised them I would write a review. I came to RKB on Saturday 24/6/23. It would be considered dinner service. Now that I've discussed the service and that awful Air conditioning hazard, let's talk about the food. Edible! I didn't even take a picture of my plate,that says a lotttt in this present time. Coleslaw was definitely a win, the Chicken lacked real flavour/spice. Say it with me people.....Seasoning. Chips are mediocre. Vegetarian/vegan options......what options?????? Drinks, Great! Versatile drinks menu that is impressive upon arrival and doesn't taste like dishwater. Would have stayed longer and drank more if that was an option as the music created a good vibe. I will be forwarding this to head office cause they need to know who is representing them and how. I hope this review has been of use to all who read and wish you all well. Overall I would give a 6/10 and 2 of those points goes to the staff that held down the night and worked their butts off. Again, Ryū/Vanessa/Aaliyah and a few others who names escaped me thank you for making what could have been a disaster of occasions something still worth remembering with a smile.

Vibe is great! However, the food is just okay -- nothing exciting at all. A homegirl and I went for dinner and I asked the server for the best recommendations (his favorite items). He bacislly picked our dinner, which consisted of Saltfish Fritters, Hot Island Wings and the Chile Pepper Mac and Cheese. I would say pass on all three! For me, it's not worth the calories. Luckily, we also ordered the mango, banana min mocktial, which was tasty. The best item of the evening along with their lemon fresh handwipes! Yes, I said handwipes - ha. It's the little things in life... ***Update - The Island Fish Burger is very good. I told my friend I wasn't keen on this place and she said they had two good options - the fish burger and halloumi burger. I can vouch for the fish burger - delicious. And the way she ate the halloumi burger makes me think it is delicious too! Once again, the DJ'ing was #beyond (from NWA to Arrested Development to JaRule!). Great vibes!

Was visiting London and Rum Kitchen was recommended and by far, it was the worst place we ate at in London. We're Caribbean, we KNOW West Indian food and this was just...bad. Food was either totally bland or way too salty, the sauces that came with our appetizer tasted straight out of a bottle, service was abysmal...our waitress barely came over and basically ignored us the entire time. At one point, I went to use the WC during dinner and one of the stalls had feces all in the toilet, the other stalls were in disgusting condition. There are so many caribbean folks in London, much more authentic and better places to eat if you're craving West Indian food!

I had eaten a few hours before coming here, so I just had cassava fries and a Island Bird cocktail. The cocktail was good; I didn't care for the cassava fries, but that was my first tome having cassava. My accompany had been there the day before during happy hour and enjoyed the food and drinks so that he brought me there the next. Great overall vibes.

Brand new location of The Rum Kitchen, first one south of the river, and in the great area that is Brixton. The place is beautiful, with a nicely lit and organised bar, warm and inviting interior and comfortable places to sit. The staff were all friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. We were missed after being sat, but once we told someone that no one had came by, were were served perfectly. A little too much service, we kept being brought other people's food and drinks. Maybe a table numbering system had not be learned by the staff yet, but it's just a soft launch, so that's all forgivable. The food and drink is the most important part, and also the best part. I had the 5 piece jerk chicken meal. This is one of my favourite dishes, and I'm very particular about it. First off I have to say it was incredibly garnished with beautiful cubes of watermelon and pineapple. I have never seen this before, but it's a perfect pairing with the spicy jerk chicken. Next up, the chicken. It was boned, with crispy bbq'd skin, without any burning at all on it. It was odd to have jerk chicken without bones, but I actually didn't mind. The bones are sometimes the most delicious part of the meal, but it was nice to not have to fumble with them. The only thing I'd say is that it was just slightly too salty, but otherwise fantastic. It came with some pretty delicious coleslaw as well. For my drink I had the Guinness Punch, which just as you'd suspect contained Guinness. I got it because it was the most unique drink I've seen, also featuring condensed milk, chocolate liquor, rum and spices. I think it all worked well, it's the kind of drink you have one of and them move onto something lighter. Overall the venue was inviting, the food was amazing, and I look forward to returning!

The Rum Kitchen, Brixton - cocktails and Caribbean food, sounds like a winning combination, right? Well, for me it is although I am not much of a cocktail person, but the thought of a cool (alcoholic) drink with some fried or grilled food is most apt. The Rum Kitchen in Brixton is it's third branch. The space is quite large and, as you might have guessed, rum is their speciality with various brands on offer (I'm merely an amateur in this) and their Rum based cocktails. The dining area is towards the back of the restaurant while the front area feels like it is dedicated to the happy hour crowd. Outdoor seating is available but limited and quite honestly, I am not mad about the view of a busy road, with heavy traffic at certain times. There were more than a handful of us and we each order a rum based cocktail but still it looked a little monotonous in this picture. I find it was very mild and needed an extra shot of that, er, rum? The menu was predominantly fried and grilled chicken with jerk sauce. Smaller nibbles and bits to share are suitable cocktail companion and a crowd pleaser dessert menu of ice-creams and banana cake. I was very tempted by the slow cooked mutton dish but had a yearning for fried chicken. And vegetarian dishes include a halloumi burger, cauliflower curry and a mysterious rainbow salad. Main dishes priced at an average £10.00 needs a side (about £4.00) of either rice, plaintains or chips to make a proper meal. The plating of food looks appetising and vibrant; partly with the colourful plateware. It has a clean presentation which shows that a degree of care was taken with the plating. 5 piece bowl (5 pieces of jerk boneless chicken thighs with jerk gravy, coconut, black eye pea rice and house slaw) £12.50 - the coconut rice, perfectly cooked was quite similar to the Malaysian style "nasi lemak". It was the best char grilled chicken on the table. proper jerk (2 chopped jerk chicken legs with jerk gravy, lime salt and house slaw) £9.00 - I would have thought the chicken would be similar to the dish above but without the rice. Served on the bone, the chicken was a little over-charred and dry. A little disappointed with this. jerk fried chicken (buttermilk brined jerk fried chicken topped with jerk gravy, lime salt and house slaw) £9.50 - the chicken itself was quite spicy and the sauce gave an extra heat to the dish. I thought it was good - crunchy batter and moist chicken meat - but thought it was quite average. Portion size for me was perfect but my husband needed a second main dish to be filled up. JFC burger (spicy jerk chicken, chilli pickles, charred lettuce, lime salt, scotch bonnett mayo & swamp sauce) £10.00 - the large piece of pleasantly spicy jerk chicken was served in a rather nondescript bun with a couple of slices of tomato, and some imperceptibly "charred" lettuce. The mayonnaise was good, but I couldn't taste the scotch bonnet, to be honest. The chicken was good, but the rest a disappointment. Service was very friendly. Perhaps the waitresses were still learning the dishes because there is still confusion of what the dishes were supposed to be. It is not so suitable for younger children because of the level of noise. The Rum Kitchen is appropriate to cater for large crowds. We had a lovely time, but probably because of the lime salt we all felt very thirsty after the meal.

So I being a Jamaican by birth wanted to get some authentic food in my intestines. This was delivered on many of levels; I being Jamaican do not like spicy hot food spicy food with regards to flavouring I'm loving but hot no. I booked a table for six and in the booking I said I was a wheelchair user this was overlooked, no apologies were given I seemed to have been blamed. Whilst I'm mentioning it the negatives the disabled toilet had to be opened by a tip tray but my shock was a tampon wrapper on the floor in the toilet I was not going to check if it was used. Also whilst the music was an added touch this was way too loud we couldn't have a conversation around the table without shouting. The staff and food was tasty and I enjoyed the atmosphere the a mixture of eaters and drinkers one person who stood out was the host his exuberance made the evening worth talking about and visiting again. Our waitress was wonderful she made sure our needs were met.

Great drinks and fun atmosphere. I miss the Caribbean women in here. Earlier in the day, I met a sweet girl there named Liz, she helped me with Metro info, as I was one confused American. I ended up coming back later that day and enjoyed myself...people were great. The music was blazin'...I'm so mad my cell went out, I would of been Shazaming! **This place is lit on a Saturday night**

I came here for NYE and it was a really good vibe and nice bartenders. The drinks were affordable but very weak, but didn't mind because the vibe was pretty good. Since we did not get eat we decided to come back the next day to try the food. Big mistake. Should have listened to the Jamaican man I spoke to the night before at the party that said the food was "ok" (and I am now realizing the ok was just being polite). The best thing we had was the the salt fish fritters but I wouldn't go as far as to say it is good... the jerk chicken was barely jerk and didn't have much flavor. The fried fish lacked seasoning and when I tried to ask for pepper sauce they said they didn't have any, which is crazy as I have never been to a Caribbean restaurant or even household that did not have pepper sauce. The chef said the sauce he had was too "spicy". After a while they gave me a little side of jerk sauce in which they tried to charge me £3 pounds, which I asked about and they removed from the bill. The rice and peas were the worst I have ever had in my life. It tasted like it was made with uncle ben's instant rice. And the sweet plantains were probably not ripe as they were not sweet. This man be harsh but my family is Caribbean so it was a completely disappointing meal. I will say all of the staff is very nice and helpful, however I would only recommend this place for the vibe and maybe the drinks if you do a heavy pre-game.

Great place for a nice drink and small plates...I went when they had a dance area and in the back was the eating area...the drinks were little light..

We were just in there for 15 minutes at the bar to order a drink. We were completely ignored while the staff just kept making more table drinks. We just ended up leaving because we felt so awkward.

Atmosphere is nice and food was tasty. I ordered many plates and was pleased with it all. I'd give four/five stars but the wait staff could be improved in professionalism and attentiveness.

How does a restaurant not allow a starving party of one not eat because he does not have a reservation as the restaurant was at 25% capacity??? They need not to worry about getting business from me ever. I will also let my social media connects know that too.

The manager Joe was sooooo fuc$ing rude. We had a reservation for a large group of about 20 people . We had two girls with us who were just under the 18. We didn't know that there was an age requirement. We rode in a Uber for 40 mins (all 20 of us mind you) in the rain at the end of our stay in London to get to this freaking place all for them to tell us that everyone in the party had to leave because we had two minors with us. I mean the entire party had to go . We asked if the minors could leave with their chaperones and they said "No! Everyone has to leave." We had a long day and waited until 9:00pm to secure a reservation for the entire group. The manager Joe was a complete a$$hole. He had zero compassion or empathy. He had no chill about him. Hella aggressive and mean. You could tell that he wasn't the owner. There's no way that any owner would behave in that way. We were likely about to spend several hundred pounds with this establishment. Not that the amount we were about to spend is the complete point. The main point is that we were rudely escorted out by security (although she was sweet) and sent back out into the rain, starving. Lucky for us, we were a short walk from Fish Wings and Tings who's owner graciously accommodated every single one of us on the fly. No reservation needed. He made it happen for us. He made us feel soooooo welcome. If you are ever in London, go to Fish Wings and Tings. They will make you feel right at home and the food is yummy!!!

Scene: Friday night single shopping lady from the US stumbles on this place. With intrepidation she walks in to hear one of the finest female deja well best dis ever who happens to be a lady playing old school funk, reggae, jamming!! She was truly an awesome treat. The cocktails are served in fancy glasses and it's standing room only. No cover because it's a restaurant. Not sure if they charge later. Clean bathrooms on the lower lever no lift. I will return!!

Ok...let's start with the negative...the table service was a bit disorganised. No one came to take our drink or food order initially and throughout the evening bar staff brought drinks to us we hadn't ordered. Not a huge issue though and despite the slow start all the staff were super friendly and attentive otherwise. Food was really good. Brought out promptly and tasted great. If you like jerk and spicy food I definitely recommend this place. Cocktails packed a punch...they definitely were not skimping on the rum!!

Really like it in here. The rum cocktails are good and the jerk chicken bowl is really tasty!! Good music too!!

Visiting from Brooklyn New York I was hoping to fine great West Indian nutrients and happened upon Rum Kitchen, My family and I ordered half the menu and every single thing was delicious. My wife the ultimate critic cosigned we even ate the squid because we thought why not? It was excellent. Jada from toronto was great even when they had a difficult patron they treated the situation with class and respect. This place was A+++ P.S. The jelly sauce for the plantain is special
