The Rummer

Disappointed😔 £66 for 4 drinks only and no warning😢 asked for a double tequila over ice but wanted an aged one, bar man recommended one, poured it and sorted the rest of the order(4 people). No warning, one of our party paid and i only realized how much it was when i saw the receipt…shocker, £30 for a double tequila & £18 for a cocktail.. DON’T BOTHER GOING HERE😢

The Rummer is one of those rare places that quietly reminds you why cocktail bars matter. Tucked away just off St Nicholas Market, it manages to feel both historic and completely alive. The atmosphere is relaxed but intentional, the kind of space where conversation flows easily whether you’ve popped in for one drink or three. The drinks are beautifully curated, excellent cocktails, and a sense that the staff actually care about what they’re serving. Everything is done with confidence but zero pretension. There’s a real sense of Bristol independence, thoughtful, and timeless without being stuck in the past. The Rummer absolutely delivers.

I used to love the Rummer for cocktails but recently it has been disappointing to say the least. It is the 4th time in 3 months that I have been in and tried to order my favourite cocktail and although it is still on the catalogue, they don’t have the ingredients to make it (and several others on their list as well). The staff have been really lovely and very apologetic but maybe the manager/owner can so a better job at stocking the bar. Not sure I will go back again since the place is known for cocktails and they are not able to make them. Shame really as it used to be my go to place.

An entertaining disaster of a place. As soon as our group walked in, one of the two girls behind the bar said something salty about us looking like we all wanted draught lager. They only made fantastic cocktails here, she told us. Apart from a Manhatten, or a Tom Collins, or a negroni...We went through I think five different cocktails before finding one they actually had the ingredients for/ knew how to make. Oh and they had no ice cubes because the "I'm crazeee" bar girl had drunk them all. Fantastic! All the while there was only three other people in the place, one of whom was laughing maniacally and flashing a big crucifix at us.

Wouldn’t usually write reviews but honestly, the kindness and professionalism of the staff meant I just had to. We visited as a large group and Kenzie was ever so kind, he went above and beyond to ensure we all had a pleasant visit. He even showed us the historical parts of the building and gave us some facts about the Rummer’s history. We were also kindly offered to taste some gins which was a very nice touch. This kind of service is very rare in this day and age. Cosy atmosphere and a warm setting too.

Love the Rummer, been floating around here since 1241. Biggest selection of spirits I've seen in Bristol, and amazing cocktails. The staff are so attentive and full of fun facts about the history of Bristol.

Lovely Bristol bar with great service. We went there for a little Christmas gathering and we got to sit next to the magnificent fireplace, which was lovely. The service was great, the bar tenders are really lovely and the drinks were nice as well. Definitely recommend for a great Christmas outing.

Cool cocktails. Lucy was so welcoming and gave incredible service. Cocktails were brilliant and one of the best choices of rum on Bristol. Best place to be this quintero by the fire!
