Great little café! Loved the groovy decor, food was tasty and coffee was excellent. I ordered the pork and beans and they were amazing. Other things ordered were the French toast, cheese rolls and bacon sandwich. All pronounced very good. Service was swift and reasonable prices even with the 15% holiday surcharge.

The Running Duck in Geraldine, New Zealand, offers a relaxed atmosphere with a classic Kiwi vibe. Located in a converted petrol station, the cafe evokes the feeling of being at a family holiday home, with its decor featuring vintage items and comfortable seating. The cafe’s menu offers simple food with bold flavors, focusing on familiar Kiwi tastes rather than experimental combinations. With great food made with fresh ingredients, excellent coffee, and friendly staff, The Running Duck is a nice halfway stopping point for our travel between Lake Tekapo and Christchurch.

Came here for breakfast while on the road to Christchurch, and it was definitely worth it! The food is great, there is a variety of dishes, from traditional breakfasts to waffles to burgers. We had the Mother Clucker, beef burger, and eggs Benedict. We liked all of them! The staff were also very friendly and nice, the service was quick and of good quality. The place itself is also very cozy and interesting, with many vintage items like radios, drink cans and a lot of other things. I also really liked the small humorous details (suggestion box).

Was travelling from Tekapo towards Christchurch and decided to stop at Geraldine for breakfast. I am very glad we did so, and at such a wonderful cafe. Had the big brekkie and I'm assuming all baked beans are homemade BBQ baked beans because that is one of the best baked beans I had so far. Even those in the group that didn't like baked beans thought the beans were great. Scrambled eggs were good too, but the baked beans really took the spotlight. Chicken + waffles was good too! The fried chicken was juicy and tasty, paired damn well together with the maple syrup and waffle. Hot chick salad felt like a miss tho. Maybe because the other 2 items were so good that they overshadowed the salad. The coffee here is great as well! Very smooth and not too acidic.

:) i tried the squelcher burger - porkbelly with apple sauce and coleslaw. A huge burger. A good 3 huge chunks of pork belly in there. There was no way it was a one-biter. Taste wise.. porkbelly is moist inside. Outside was a tad hard but u can say its crunchy too i guess. Lol. The coleslaw in there was creamy yet refreshing. Comes with fries. Huge plate. #recommend Very family-hangout place. Very had a place to park kids bikes.. awesome hang out place vibes. Love.

5 stars!! Delicious food and coffee. Only drawback is the coffee sizes are a bit small. But we highly recommend The Running Duck!

Had the BLAT (bacon lettuce tomatoes avocado). The clear standout was the bacon! Nice vintage vibe, really friendly staff, reasonably priced offerings. Also, a perfect food/rest stop between Christchurch and Lake Tekapo for those on the road.

Yelp
We made a stop here on our way to Lake Tekapo from Christchurch. It was a nice halfway stopping point with a cute patio outside and a good amount of people dining. Staff was super friendly as we walked in to order. I ordered the Mother Clucker and holy Cluck it was huge! Massive. I could hardly eat it to be honest. I ended up fighting with it a bit and settled for good ol knife and fork. With that being said.... it was worth the struggle and honey all over my hands and face. Really great flavor and loads of chicken. Definitely stop here! Everything on the menu sounded great.

Yelp
A wonderful coffee stop with friendly staff and great food and drinks! Baked goods, cafe food, takeaway, alcohol, and free WiFi. Cute interior, nice outdoor seating, and great service. Worth a pit stop.

Yelp
Average food, small portions and weak coffee. Family of five had lunch here. Burgers don't come with chips, soft buns ( McDonalds like ) with adequate filling no extras. no water available with temps of 27 degrees, or at least not easily seen anyway. There are better places.
