On the Grid : The Sackville Lounge

"A quiet secret drinking spot known only to Dubliners who value quality Guinness and no nonsense welcoming service. This is a ‘real’ pub, non of your hipster messing goes on here, just quality drinking and friendly banter. Sackville Lounge is located just off O’Connell Street and is fantastic spot to watch the GAA Championship matches in August and September." - Kooba

As big fans of BAR1661, my wife and I were excited to finally try The Sackville Lounge, hoping for a similar level of quality and experience. There are definitely hints of the same creative flair and attention to detail that we love about its sister bar, but overall, it didn’t quite hit the mark in the same way. The space itself is nicely done, with a cozy atmosphere and a stylish interior that gives a nod to BAR1661’s vibe. The drinks menu shows promise and you can see they’re trying to keep that signature touch, but the execution felt a bit underwhelming. The cocktails were decent, but lacked the wow factor we’ve come to expect. Where The Sackville Lounge really shone was in the service. The staff were fantastic throughout-friendly, welcoming and genuinely attentive without being overbearing. They clearly care about creating a good guest experience and that made a big difference to the overall to our time there. All in all, it was an okay visit. We’re glad we tried it, but if we had to choose, we’d stick with BAR1661 for the full package. Still, The Sackville Lounge has potential and with a few refinements, it could become a standout in its own right.

Great new Cocktail bar in Dublin City Centre. From the gang that brought you 1661, the bar is small so worth making a booking if you can. Everything we had on the menu was lovely they have a super range of cocktails.

Really nice signature cocktails with a lovely cosy vibe inside. The service was amazing also. I highly recommend the spicy margarita.

From the moment you walk in the door the experience starts, (fyi this is not your average bar). You’re greeted by a very welcoming smile from the stunning manger and made feel instantly at home and seated either on the very comfortable bar stools or a cosy table bar side. The menu is beautiful and precise. Myself and my friend were very impressed as we were considering what to drink a duo of filtered waters appeared. We opted for an old fashioned and a martini, both of which are a house speciality. The cheddar fat washed burbon old fashioned is a masterpiece, complexed refined and absolutely delicious and well received by my colleague, The martini I had was nothing short of perfection made in a small batch before service and kept at a brisk -20c it’s served with a beautiful brined and plump green olive in a beautiful frozen glass worthy of royalty. It’s poured from a gentle height and the pure magic of its viscosity is shown, exceptional is the only word to describe this taste of heaven and martini moment in time. The sackville lounge is a masterpiece in mixology and service, folks this is a place to make a destination in your day. Either for an exceptional cocktail or a lovely pint of porter you will be chuffed either way. The sackville just set the new standard.

Wow! My new favorite bar in Dublin. Elevated cocktails, but in a chill setting with good, local energy. Every drink I tried was superlative. A must visit if you enjoy a great cocktail!

Cocktails: stunning. Staff: stunningly rude. We went to Sackville Place on a Saturday night — group of six. The cocktails? Absolutely fantastic. Genuinely some of the best I’ve had in Dublin. We happily paid over €200 for two rounds — they were that good. But the vibe? Not it. The staff were full of notions and the attitude was just off. They did squeeze us in, which we appreciated, but then the manager came over to tell one of us off for resting an elbow on the edge of a nearby, unused table — completely unnecessary. Later, he told us to lower our voices, even though I’m hard of hearing and my friends naturally speak a bit louder so I can follow the conversation. It was a Saturday night in a cocktail bar, not a Monday in a library. Not all disabilities are visible — a bit of understanding would’ve gone a long way. We ended up leaving early. So yeah, go for the cocktails — they really are stunning. But if you want a relaxed, inclusive night out where you're treated with basic respect, maybe give Sackville Place a miss.

Cool historic setting with a small but tasteful interior. The Quality cocktails made it memorable, the staff, however, made it unforgettable. Impeccable service from all. They were so fun and genuine it brought the experience together (Pro tip; sit at the bar). Truly delighted Dublin has something like this.

Fantastic cocktails and very reasonable whiskey prices for Dublin. Good atmosphere, and friendly staff. A hidden gem in Dublins overpriced city center.
