On the Grid : The Sackville Lounge

"A quiet secret drinking spot known only to Dubliners who value quality Guinness and no nonsense welcoming service. This is a ‘real’ pub, non of your hipster messing goes on here, just quality drinking and friendly banter. Sackville Lounge is located just off O’Connell Street and is fantastic spot to watch the GAA Championship matches in August and September." - Kooba

I really liked that they had metal straws. A small thing but it made a big difference for me. Really cute little bar with some lovely cocktails. I had a passionfruit martini (not on the menu but still delicious) and pictured here is their strawberry cocktail.

The owners of 1661 cracking out another absolute banger of a cocktail bar. Walk ins only and a snug atmosphere in this central bar location. Innovative and delicous cocktail recipes and techniques in the heart of dublin city

I first visited The Sackville Lounge after finding out it was the sister bar of 1661. At this point I’ve been there several times and don’t know why I haven’t left them a review sooner. The drinks there are elevated classics or classics like you’ve never had them before - PERFECT. The staff are friendly and attentive. The music is always good - best playlists of each genre depending on which day you come. I recommend this place for anyone who wants tried-and-true cocktails and some creative options of classics.

Great new Cocktail bar in Dublin City Centre. From the gang that brought you 1661, the bar is small so worth making a booking if you can. Everything we had on the menu was lovely they have a super range of cocktails.

We were there yesterday for our friend’s welcome gathering and was recommended to this bar for long time. We love the bar’s atmosphere and the waitress who served us very friendly and helpful. However, we have over expected to the menu after reviewing, there has only limited choices for the cocktail and mocktail lover🥹 But I’ll still be there in the future, hopefully they can add on more things in the menu 🥹

The disrespect with clients in this place is ridiculous The place and the cocktails were okay, but the staff’s behaviour was beyond disrespectful. After midnight, while the atmosphere was still buzzing, my partner and I ordered a cocktail and two pints. We were told we could only have the cocktails because “the bar was closing.” We accepted this explanation. However, over the next 40 minutes, while we were still seated, we saw several other people being served pints at the bar. About 20 minutes later, we asked at the bar if we could have a pint and the barman said yes. One minute later, a server came to our table to say we couldn’t get the beer because the bar was closed. Shortly after, more groups arrived and were served without any issue. The treatment felt humiliating and unfair. I want to make it clear that both my partner and I were completely sober, so there was no valid reason to refuse us service while continuing to serve others. Not bad behaviour, not explanation. We just missed on being friends of the staff, so don’t go there unless you know them, otherwise you will be ignored

As big fans of BAR1661, my wife and I were excited to finally try The Sackville Lounge, hoping for a similar level of quality and experience. There are definitely hints of the same creative flair and attention to detail that we love about its sister bar, but overall, it didn’t quite hit the mark in the same way. The space itself is nicely done, with a cozy atmosphere and a stylish interior that gives a nod to BAR1661’s vibe. The drinks menu shows promise and you can see they’re trying to keep that signature touch, but the execution felt a bit underwhelming. The cocktails were decent, but lacked the wow factor we’ve come to expect. Where The Sackville Lounge really shone was in the service. The staff were fantastic throughout-friendly, welcoming and genuinely attentive without being overbearing. They clearly care about creating a good guest experience and that made a big difference to the overall to our time there. All in all, it was an okay visit. We’re glad we tried it, but if we had to choose, we’d stick with BAR1661 for the full package. Still, The Sackville Lounge has potential and with a few refinements, it could become a standout in its own right.

Great outpost of it's famous sister bar. Hopefully will become a well loved spot and get the fan fare it deserves. Food is nibblings, come well fed. I recommend the Belfast Coffee for both tourists and locals, Poitín is an absolute treat and expertly used in the cocktail.
