The Saffron House, Near Dikwella, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"Somewhere in Sri Lanka there might be a villa with better views, but we’ve yet to find one. Set in the far south of the island, high on a rocky headland, glittering azure water stretches out as far as the eye can see and 3 acres of beautiful tropical gardens envelop you; coconut palms sway above your head wherever you lay your towel. The Saffron House offers total seclusion, gorgeous airy dining and lounging areas, and every possible comfort. Decor is simple yet striking: gleaming polished concrete and clean lines abound, and fresh flowers and bright fabrics add splashes of colour throughout. The 4 bedrooms are elegantly decorated - huge floating beds draped in mosquito netting, furniture hand-built from local teak and mango, and opulent indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Add an infinity pool, a front-row sunset seat, delightful staff cooking freshly caught seafood and knock-out curries, and you're in heaven. It’s an easy stroll down to horseshoe-shaped Hiriketiya Bay, where you can laze on golden sand and watch surfers ride gentle waves. Yet this idyllic spot is only just being discovered by those who want a quieter and more authentic slice of Sri Lankan coastline, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy main coastal road. Come before it's common knowledge. Highs Laid-back luxury at its best: bags of style yet supremely comfortable and welcomingOne of the best off-radar locations on the south coastWell priced, and rates include a team of fabulous staffWe loved chef Chris’s food, especially her sublime crab curry. Request as many meals as you like, and just pay for the ingredientsExtensive gardens - kids will love seeing wild peacocks, monkeys and monitor lizards, and blue whales can be spotted out at sea Lows This is a quieter stretch of coast so don’t expect much in the way of local nightlifeIt takes a bit longer to get here but it’s totally worth the extra hour or so past the busier beaches around GalleNo twin rooms, though each can fit an additional baby cot or extra bed for a childNo direct access into the sea, but there are 2 lovely beaches a short walk away" - Sarah de Vere-Drummond

Wow! One of the most beautiful views from a hotel premises and definitely the best accommodation in Sri Lanka. It’s a four room only hotel with a spectacular view from the terrace towards the palms and sea. The infinity pool is stunning and the team is more than polite and supportive. The room and the outdoor shower awesome and the breakfast very delicious. We felt more than home and really enjoyed the time there. We can only recommend you the hotel - you will not regret it.

This place is simply a little peace of heaven on earth!! The most friendly staff, the most beautiful location possible, wonderful rooms, fantastic pool that our kids (we of course as well) loved 😍. It's a big domain, but you feel like in your own private luxury villa with sea view. We enjoyed at max and hope to be back. (difficult to think about improvements, but a little one could perhaps be choosing between options for breakfast for the next day - to avoid food waste for example) BIG thank you!!!! We loved it 🙏😍👌

We stayed at Saffron House this past week (Last week of March 2025). We are so happy we returned to Saffron House (and beautiful Sri Lanka) after a nine years. The home is just as it was - perhaps even better if that is possible. Sadly the beaches and the village around the house has changed - a bit more noisy but it is still quite nice and Saffron House is a beautiful retreat from the surrounding noise. The location of this property is surreal and Chris and her team (including her family members) are superb in how they manage this property. Every meal was outstanding and generous including breakfast. The hosting team at Saffron House extend so much care, joy, attention and humour while honoring the space and privacy for guests. The rooms are spacious and maintained very well. This is a house we will always return to because of its location (and destination Sri Lanka), the way it is managed, the very well prepared meals and the care and affection from Chris and her team

Saffron house is a very pleasant, childfriendly and tastefully decorated place with a breathtaking view. Chris, Géraldine, Cara are such good cooks, who translate our gastronomic wishes into delicious dishes. Even the children taste everything and eat it with gusto. Discreetly and patiently they tidy up the rooms,  answer our questions and solve our problems. Thanks to the staff very for this wonderful week.

We stayed at The Saffron House and our trip was great. The room was big and comfortable and love the jungle bathroom. The staff were so attentive which make all the difference travelling with little ones. Location wise it cant get better as its perfectly positioned between Dickwella and Hiri beaches, a short walk to both with plenty nice coffee shops and restaurants bars even closer. An amazing stay, perfect place to decompress.

Staying at The Saffron House in Sri Lanka is an unforgettable experience! You are surrounded by a lush, tropical garden where monkeys and peacocks love to hang out daily, they are so fun (and cheeky) to watch and I could not get enough of the stunning views of the ocean. All the rooms are gorgeous, comfortable, and beautifully designed with loads of space, my room had an incredible view of the ocean and my absolute favourite part of the villa is the insane infinity pool with the view of the open ocean from which we even saw a whale one day!! (In Feb). Something from my bucket list ticked off! The food was honestly so SO yummy, Chris, the villa manager, Geraldine, Josh and the team are all so lovely and took care of us all so incredibly well, they prepared delicious Sri Lankan dishes that were honestly some of the best meals I’ve had, my mouth is watering just thinking about the food! The surrounding area is amazing, with Hiriketiya Bay 5/10 min walk one way which is ideal for surfing, or watching surfers and Dikwella a short walk the other direction which is ideal for a sundowner! Overall, my stay was honestly amazing I could not recommend more!

We had an amazing stay at Saffron House - what a hidden gem. Wish I could have stayed here longer as felt like being in paradise - so relaxing and totally immersed in nature! The location is absolutely dreamy, not far from Hiriketiya beach with some lovely little food places including Raa and Lemon grass cafe. Especially loved lounging in the infinity pool with its totally breathtaking views of the ocean - unmissable at sunset. Rooms were decorated nicely with super comfy beds. Thank you to the staff who were so accommodating, arranging transport for us and getting our fave fruits for breakfast! Can't wait to come back.
