I was just over at the Food Mill looking for this and that..didn't find either one, but on my way out I glanced over at The Saint Sandwich Shop and remembered when Oscar Mendoza told me about the great sandwiches they put out, so I went over and got a chicken salad sandwich...it was so good, I got another! 5 stars for each one! ☆☆☆☆☆

First time here today and all was good! Great lunch spot! The sandwich was cut in half and very tasty and big. The side of pickles were even fresh and delicious! It was called "The Bay". The meat in the sandwich was really good and fresh! The Chipotle pasta salad was so flavorful. The cookie was so soft! So good! I am so happy I found this place. I will be back to try more! They even have vegetarian options. They just changed their hours so they are open 11-4pm everyday. Go checkout! Beautifully decorated inside. It's a vibe!

We were looking for a nice sandwich close to me and found the Saint sandwich shop and glad we did. I ordered the saint sandwich and my wife ordered the diamond. Both were very delicious. 100% will come here again. The service was also very friendly. There is indoor and outdoor sitting if you like to eat there.

Google
Nut allergy friendly - I put a note on GrubHub and everything turned out fine. Review is for take-out via GrubHub, which estimated a 30 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon. It seemed accurate and my order was ready when I arrived. I ordered "The Bay" as it was highlighted as a popular option. It is exactly as described with turkey, roast beef, yellow cheddar, and vegetables in a sesame roll. The meat was sliced thin and it was a pretty hefty sandwich. I'd say it's more expensive than I would normally pay for a sandwich and as a deli the portions are interestingly right between "not enough" and "too much." I split the sandwich with a friend for lunch and I could've eaten more afterwards, but I don't think I could've finished another half of a sandwich. Maybe with some chips or a drink it would have been perfect. Anyway, don't be afraid of the price tag as the sandwich could easily be two portions!

We stopped here on our way to SF. It is a cute lil place definitely popular. We made our own veggie sandwich and it was delicious. I do wish they had more seating out front. But you have to go and check it out!

Google
The saint is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The high quality ingredients (the meats & pickled onions and peppers) fresh rolls (saint has a sesame bun) with a pepper spread on the bottom makes for an amazing sandwich. The shop is cramped with a few tables and a few bar seats but it’s clear that they’ve invested some time in making it have a good vibe. Take out would probably be the best move. The cookies are a buttery tollhouse-style chocolate chip so if you like those grab some fresh out of the oven. Staff were good and seemed to care about making a quality product.

Google
Awesome to see a new sandwich shop in the Dimond/Laurel area! The shop itself is very cute and stylish. We had the Bird and Bay sandwiches -- all the ingredients, including the meat, cheese, and bread, tasted very fresh. Right now, during their soft opening, it looks like they have a fixed menu on sandwiches and salads, but hopefully, there will be more "create-your-own" options in the future.

Google
My first time checking out The Saint. I will definitely make this apart of my weekend no cooking routine. We ordered 4 sandwiches, 4 cookies, a bag of chips and a juicy hazy IPA. Awesome experience from the time I entered. Super friendly staff and sandwiches were made to perfection.

Yelp
Sandwich savants. Sandwich engineers. Sandwich Saints. Today I ordered the special, so I am deeply sorry if you do not get a chance to experience this flavor due to rotational specials, but, it is an inspirational sando which deserves to be talked about. You deserve to know. Credit is due here. The special: Pork butt, thick melted cheddar, Acme focaccia, arugula, some kind of tangy, sweet BBQ sauce coating slices of pickled, spicy pepper. Good lord. My spouse and I split this in silence, uttering the occasional "oh my god", and "wow". The pork was sliced so thin, like sheets of tender smoky deliciousness. The bread was slightly toasted to melt the thick slices of cheddar to it, so there was a delightful crispy cronch of light, well oiled focaccia. Here's the engineering: the bottom layer of bread was just slightly wider than the top, which meant biting into the sando didn't result in sando insides falling out, spilling everywhere, requiring cleanup with your phalanges at the end of your experience-- it STAYS ON. THE FILLING STAYS IN. True sub engineering, absolutely inspirational. My only question is: is there a listserv? Will this special be back?! Thank you, Sandwich Saints.

Yelp
3 stars for trying. -Way too much garlic on steak sandwich, taste more garlic than steak. Bread incredibly hard, probably toasted too early and sitting out.

leslie w.

Yelp
Excellent vegetarian sandwiches-- one even offers vegan prosciutto and salami! Quality breads and interesting toppings/ condiments as well. I have only done takeout although there are cute seating areas inside and out.

Cody H.

Yelp
Good spot. Feels like old school Bay Area. Inventive menu. Prices are Bay Area. Got the vegan sandwich it's big enough for 2 people easily. It wasn't my jam, but I've been lifelong vegetarian so fake cold cuts wasn't for me I found out. You can craft your own creation though and I'll be back to try again.

Simone A.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich. Pricey but worth it. Nice portion, fresh and tasty. The service was excellent too

Yelp
My wife and I stopped the Saint Sandwich Shop by on a Thursday afternoon around noon to pick-up a sandwich to-go and the restaurant was empty except for somebody dining in and a Door-dasher waiting to pick-up an order. The menu here is pretty extensive in terms of specialty sandwiches but we ultimately opted to share The Saint -- salami, ham, provolone, lettuce, sweet peppers, banana peppers, pickled onions, hot pepper & olive spread, garlic aioli, all on a sesame roll. The sandwich is stacked! Make sure you grab a few napkins at the counter before heading off with your to-go order because the sandwiches are quite messy to eat. I wouldn't wait too long to eat the sandwich either, as the dressing can make the bread soggy pretty quickly. The sandwich itself is perfectly balanced with its ratio of meats, cheese, and sauces. Every bite feels like you're discovering something new. If you're looking for a light lunch, sharing a whole sandwich along with a side of potato salad or macaroni salad is more than enough. I am definitely stopping by again to try some of their other sandwiches.

Eri S.

Yelp
Wait, have I not reviewed their sandwiches? I've tried their veg special of the day which was delish and full of a variety of veggies and avocado. Big for me - so ate it over 2 meals (I find bread really filling). I love that they make satisfying sandos that give full consideration for flavors and textures and understand vegetarians are not rabbits nor on a deprivation diet. Appreciate that.

Chris B.

Yelp
So glad this place popped up not long after I moved into the area. Having a good deli near by is a treat, and I'm a sucker for an Italian combo, which they do very well. Their weekly specials are usually on point, and service is always very friendly. If you dine in, you can even pair your sandwich with a local beer or glass of wine. I might even have to stop by today!

Jack R.

Yelp
This is a great addition to this block which basically doesn't have much in terms of shops or food. Cool sandwich shop with cool people. They have a few sandwiches that they crank out. Hey, why change what you do well right? Got their Bird sandwich which is basically turkey with avocado and some fixings ans found it to be tasty. The smell of the sandwiches from outside is mouthwatering, by the way!

Audrey I.

Yelp
Definitely a solid deli! Would I venture to say their sandwiches are the best in the East Bay? Certainly not. Ok's Deli is far better by comparison (considering both taste and price). Regardless, The Saint Sandwich Shop can still dish out a damn solid sandwich. My boyfriend and I shared a build your own sandwich and their flagship Saint (their take on an Italian). The ingredients were all fresh, but I liked the BYO turkey sandwich I had as I thought the Saint was a tad too salty. That's just a personal preference as my boyfriend liked the Saint marginally more. A nice plus is that all sandwiches come with the acclaimed Bay Area favorite, Acme bread. Aside from the food, I can also appreciate the dive-bar-esque and quirky interior (heck, there's even a retro video game table for the diners to entertain themselves with before receiving their meal).

Monica A.

Yelp
Not enough deli meat. 2 nd time and still just a few sliced slices of salami. Paying $ 18 for a sandwich n receiving this is not kool. Bread is fresh though.. again hot peppers not added( when ordered)

Ryn B.

Yelp
Love the vegan sandwich! When I ate meat I used to love a good deli sandwich (like the Italian subs at subway or Jersey giant or jimmy johns ) and this one hits the spot. I ask for no oil and vinegar tho, it can get soggy.

Jake B.

Yelp
This had been on my list for a while, and I'm really glad I tried it out. It's hard to find a spot with a classic, simple, high quality sandwich, but this definitely did the trick. The bread was soft but had a good crunch to it, and the turkey and other ingredients were clearly very high quality. Making your own sandwich was perfect for my needs, and I loved the result. 10/10 would recommend!

T S.

Yelp
Was expensive. Ordered the vegan St Francis. Nearly all bread with no fillings, ate it anyway. A poor value.

David L.

Yelp
Keep an eye open or you'll miss it. It's pretty small and the street dining area covers up a lot of what you might use to find it. Worth the effort though - pretty damn good sandwiches.

Aaron S.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches. Try The Bird. Their roast beef is also very good. They're busy and on top of things. Never feel like they've missed a thing. Just feels like a business that's thriving for good reason. If you have time, sit outside in the converted parking "parklet" on a warm Oakland day.

Eric B.

Yelp
Food was great 4.5 stars Ambiance - small little spot, but they make it work 4 stars Service was great, only took 5 minutes to get our food We ordered The Saint and The Bird and got two chocolate chip cookies. We came over the bay for these sandwiches and will be back!!!

Hutch C.

Yelp
This might be one of the best sandwiches I ever had ! Everything was perfect, fresh bread, lots of boars head meat, fresh veggies, spicy peppers. Hefty size too (more than I should finish in a single sitting, but it was so good I polished it off). Great friendly service to boot !!!!

Reina L.

Yelp
The sandwiches are good but I'm appalled at the terrible customer service. The manager (I'm assuming that is what he is because each time I've gone there he has been at the front/the only one interacting with customers), is so dismissive and disrespectful. I've waited this long to leave a review because I've hoped that the terrible customer service was a fluke but unfortunately it seems like the norm. He won't meet my eyes, he cuts me off with an exasperated tone, and rushes me out as quickly as possible once he deigns to respond to me. I'm extremely disappointed that I can no longer give them my business.

Kourosh F.

Yelp

Yelp
Ordered the beast and they gave me something with pulled pork and ham. I don't eat pork. Spent almost entire half hour lunch walking and waiting so I couldn't walk back there and ask for replacement. Wasted $20 and stayed hungry.

James S.

Yelp
Smells good! I recently visited The Saint Francis Sandwich Shop, and while I'm not a vegan, I must say I was thoroughly impressed. Their signature "St Francis" sandwich was a revelation. Packed with flavors that dance harmoniously on your palate, it's a testament to the fact that vegan food can not only match its non-vegan counterparts but often surpass them in taste and creativity. The ingredients felt fresh, and every bite was a delightful surprise. This shop is a must-visit for sandwich enthusiasts of all dietary preferences. Looking forward to my next visit! Rating: Food: 4.5 Service: 4 Ambiance: 4 Price: 3 Overall: 4.5 I would recommend and would definitely return.

Yelp
This sandwich shop has been on my list for a while. It's not common to see an Italian-style hoagie in the SF Bay Area, and even rarer one that's good. Their version is called The Saint. I ordered ahead online and really glad I did. Coming from the South Bay 40 min away plus having tried to order the Sat prior and they sold out, I secured a sandwich despite a line to the door and packed tables. Seems like they usually sell out before their closing hours so recommend going early. There's a sign to the left of the cashier for pick up. I patiently waited there and the cashier soon noticed and gave me my to-go order. Easy in and out. Taste test: I liked the combo of the peppers for the acid and softness of the bread (sesame nice touch). I did find myself wanting more spread or olive oil/vinegar mix. Glad there wasn't the latter because I was transporting the sandwich, but I personally like more jus. I think most people will love this sandwich as-is. Would like to go back and try a sandwich on the pizza bianca bread.

Monic R.

Yelp
Legitimately delicious! Got the Saint and it was very well balanced. Bread was great, they heated up the lunch meat for me, the service was quick and the sandwiches were large and tasty.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
A little pricey, but awesome & huge sandwiches and sides! The sandwiches have a gigantic amount of tasty meat on them, plus all the toppings and cheese and veggies are nice and fresh and flavorful. The seeded sub roll was fluffy and chewy. The pasta salad had a nice spicy kick to it with large pasta shells and creamy dressing. The potato salad had egg and was very black peppery, which was pretty tasty. The prices were on the higher end for a 'sub sandwich' but each sandwich awesome tasting and is nearly enough two lunches, so it ends up being worth it!

Dave Nelson C.

Yelp
Ordered a BLT with cheddar. Gave me two pieces of bacon and four slices of cheddar. Mostly cheddar and lettuce. First time trying a cheddar lettuce tomato sandwich. For almost $20, wow.

Norma L.

Yelp
I've seen this place on my trips to the Foodmill, but usually it's closed by the time I've over there. We got let out of work early and it was my co-workers birthday so we came here for a birthday lunch. We both ordered the curry chicken sandwich, and I got the potato salad. There is a steady stream of customers, ordering or picking up on-line, but they kept up. The staff is super friendly for being so busy. The sandwich was great and no skimping on the ingredients here. I love currant and this reminded me of the sandwiches they make in the UK which they call coronation chicken. The potato salad had a creole feel to it, and between that and half sandwich I was quite full. I had the other half for dinner. Will be back.

Maya R.

Yelp
A cute little spot with delicious sandwiches! I got the vegan option - the saint francis - with regular cheddar. I didn't think the vegan salami & prosciutto added much but I loved the veggies and dressing on the greens that made it just perfectly vinegary and delicious. It does get a little soggy over time since it's a juicy sandwich but it held up pretty well until I finished it a few hours later!

Armina A.

Yelp
This place is surreal. It remind me of a unattainable sandwich you see on Instagram that you only dream of but can never find anywhere near you. I ordered the saint (added extra turkey based on some other yelpers recommendation) and it was incredible. I have never had so much flavor burst in my mouth at one time. The amount of meat in this sandwich should be criminal. It also had a perfect kick of spice from the peppers but it wasn't overbearing and complimentary to all the other ingredients. This place is my favorite sandwich spot and I intend to dream about every night and order once a week!

TC W.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches with excellent baked bread and ingredients. Great Deli with a nice atmosphere and a few tables to eat.

Sammie L.

Yelp
Overall, this place serves up a massive and filling quality sandwich. Yes, the price is high-ish BUT where else can you get a full sandwich (good for two folx in my opinion) for $16? Nowhere really. Location is also nice as well. Small, quaint shop with a musical ambiance fitting of a millennial (punk rock, but not too Rocky). Safe and clean space to dine as well. Staff are very relatable and super friendly. I'll be back for sure!

Rick H.

Yelp
This is very good food. Only issue I would say is you wait a long time for your food. So if in a hurry, try something else maybe. Otherwise, great spot. And they have an old Pac-Man game cocktail table!!!

Brenton E.

Yelp
This is a very quaint shop on MacArthur just outside of the Laurel shopping district. It's small but they maximize their space and during the rush it's actually kind of like watching get out of the car...different employees continually popping up out of thin air, but where are they storing them? Maybe they are being created there. I have a staple for a sandwich it's the soft roll (Dutch crunchish bread) turkey sandwich with extra meat, however extra meat is A lot. IT'S FRESH AND DELICIOUS

Semuteh F.

Yelp
A great spot for lunch-the decor is really cute, the service is kind and the sandwiches are stellar. The presentation is really impressive and the sandwiches are truly massive! They also have Zapps chips (my personal fave) and homemade chocolate chip cookies. We had the Dimond and the Beast combos and a cookie. The Beast was my favorite. We really enjoyed our lunch and will definitely be back!

Lanny B.

Yelp
Didn't eat here but warning: sandwich shop in business for years can't figure out how much bread to order so that they don't run out more than an hour ahead of closing time. Too many other places to get a sandwich to make this one worth the trip. Maybe order online ahead of time?

Ricardo A.

Yelp
Best Sandwich in Oakland! I drive to it and is worth every mile. I have tried each of their sandwiches with the exception of the chicken curry one. Hard to pick just one. The Beast may be it, with its pizza bread toasted is a delicacy. Veggie and salad options too. Recommend to order ahead online. Your sandwich will be ready when you get there. Friendly and fast service.

Kckc C.

Yelp
The Beast probably top 2 sandwiches I've ever had. And huge - I can get 2 meals out of it.

Eric N.

Yelp
Easy menue selection. The staff are very nice. The sandwiches taste fresh. Some are big, so you may have some left over. The price is fair for what you get. They have canned beer too.

Steve B.

Yelp
Had The Bird (no Mayo) to go. Best turkey sandwich I've ever had. Copious amounts of turkey, with bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, Jack cheese, and mustard on an Acme roll. Perfection! Can't wait to try some of their other sandos.

Rhian M.

Yelp
We popped in on a Saturday late lunch time around 1pm and were so impressed! Non-assuming on a quieter edge of the Laurel - plenty of parking to be had. What we ate: 1) Chicken curry salad sandwich - this was so yummy, a little sweet with the raisins and spicy arugula. 2) Roast beef sandwich - so fresh, not like the sketchy deli meat a lot of places sell. Well dressed greens, and the onions were a nice touch. The potato salad wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't bad and the sandwiches & service more than made up for this, so still a winner in my book.

Holly H.

Yelp
Ordered three different sandwiches, and each one was delicious! Looking forward to trying them all- it's that good. Also, do not snooze of the superlative homemade chocolate chip cookies: huge, scrumptious, homemade!

anya e.

Yelp
Hella good. Hella full. Hella worth the 16 dollars I don't think I spent. As a life long Oaklander , I haven't had this level of satisfaction since Genova's was open on Telegraph.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Awesome addition to the neighborhood! The menu consists of both hot and cold sandwiches, sides and cookies. If none of the sandwiches are to your liking, you can build your own sandwich or turn any sandwich into a salad. Don't forget to order one of their delicious chocolate chip cookies (2 for $5)! I went with The Dimond ($14) which is served hot. There's salami, ham, mozzarella, and tomatoes with a pesto. The best part of all was pizza bianca bread which gave it a nice crunch. The sandwich was definitely filling. The bf ordered The Beast ($14) and The Bird ($14). Because of the pizza bianca bread, he favored the The Beast. The space is cute. There are a few tables and stool seating if you want to eat in. WHAT TO KNOW: *Order in person, online or by phone *Street parking *Beer and wine available

Brian B.

Yelp
Not a lot to add to my previous review. Since that posted we've eaten many sandos in the shop as well as picked up and had them delivered. This is the place is the total package. The product is the best I've ever had and the folks that work there are friendly and detail oriented. Seriously. Stop eating other sandwiches if you can get The Saint in your mouth.

Angie H.

Yelp
Listen. This was so quick that my spouse ordered his before reading my text asking for a sandwich, too. But it was FINE because mine was ready in 5 minutes. This is mostly a takeout spot tonight there's a few seats inside and outside if you want to sit. I got some chicken sando and was kinda sad that it was cold cuts BUT THEN I ATE IT. It was massive. And it was super duper effing good! Could've sworn I took pics but I can't find them now! Guess I gotta go back STAT!

Marshall J.

Yelp
New to the neighborhood, already found my go to sando spot. Well done Saint. I appreciate you and your team

Lisa F.

Yelp
What a neighborhood gem this is! It's fairly new, but I can't believe I haven't discovered it until now! My friend from San Francisco came over here to take me for a sandwich and it was so well worth it. I had the special of the day which was hot pastrami and sauerkraut on some lovely pizza bianca bread. So delicious. The pickles and kraut were both really good (house made?). My friend had The Saint, which also looked marvelous! For those that would rather do without the bread, they have many of their sandwiches also as salads! The atmosphere was really nice. The space is cozy, well ventilated and very clean. People were nice and the customers who came in were all delighted. I cannot wait to go back and try The Saint, The Bay & The Beast!

Lanch A.

Yelp
First time here, so I went with The Saint. The sandwich was thick. Could barely get a bite because it was so thick. The sandwich was packed with flavor. Very acidic (vinegary flavor)if your into that then this is the one for you. Will have to come back and try a different sandwich.

Evette M.

Yelp
Happy to see a vegan option on the menu! Hip sando shop, prices were on the high end! $16 for a sandwich only. They take forever to make, it's a sandwich guys, not a pizza. That being said, it was good, not amazing.
