The 6 Best Hotels in Edinburgh (Updated 2025)

"Situated in the quiet Newington suburb about a five-minute drive from the Royal Mile, this boutique townhouse hotel is a stylish four-star choice for travelers wanting a quieter stay away from the main tourist area. The rooms retain original Georgian features (some even have four-poster beds); the décor is a little dated but the rooms feel spacious and airy and the bathrooms are large and well-maintained. There’s a simple breakfast buffet each morning, the staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and parking is available if you have a vehicle." - Matthew Kepnes

This is the first review I have ever done . But felt this hotel at £198 for one night needed a true review for other customers - the price did not inc breakfast The first impression of the entrance and reception was not good - it looks lack luster and in need of a good clean. Our room looked tired , the curtains were hanging off the rail , the bathroom tap was moving and the top came off in my hand . The cleanliness was minimal . There was a rather large unsightly water mark / leak on ceiling . The whole hotel looked like at one time had been nice but now it is in real need of upgrading - the decor is tired , shabby and a real look of neglect . The parking is tight for 5 cars and one disability area which is on a sloped area of the car park which would be awful for a wheelchair user . Staff were pleasant - location is great but the sad state of the hotel means I won’t be back .

Very nice two night stay. A bit of a walk to the city centre but loads of buses available to and from centre. Reception closes at 6 which I find a little strange in case of any issues such as a lost keycard or issue inside your room. Staff when they are there are nice. Lovely garden to the rear of the hotel. Only real gripe would be the breakfast. Really poor. Some fruit and pastries. Staff did make toast but no other hot food. Boiled eggs left out but these were rock hard.

The Salisbury Hotel is ideally located on the edge of Edinburgh’s main city centre, close to plenty of great restaurants, bars, shops, and a few interesting charity stores to browse through. The hotel offers everything you’d expect from a good mid-range stay — clean, tidy, and comfortable, with some modern touches (and a few areas that could use a refresh). There’s a lovely garden for guests to enjoy, free and reliable Wi-Fi, and TVs with Netflix, YouTube, and smart channels. The continental breakfast is a great start to the day, with a nice selection of fresh pastries, tea, coffee and other options that are well presented and tasty. The staff are outstanding — genuinely friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. There are around 4–5 free parking spaces on-site, with additional paid street parking nearby. Bus stop is nearby for the airport and city centre. The short walk to the centre is about 20 minutes and about 5-10 minutes to the start of Arthur’s Chair. Overall, a great base for exploring Edinburgh with excellent service and value for money.

I absolutely loved this cozy little boutique hotel. I stayed in a single room and had the best restful sleep throughout my entire stay. The room was very quiet, and the bed was super comfortable. The hotel staff made me feel right at home, and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Plus, the location is excellent: Holyrood Park is just a 15-minute walk away, Edinburgh Castle is about 30 minutes, and the train station is 20 minutes on foot. I’ll definitely try to book the same room the next time I visit Edinburgh. It was a wonderful experience!

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in July. The service reception was lovely, but that's where it ended. The room was way under par as to what we expected. The shower was so dirty that we put the bath mat on the shower base so our feet did not come in contact with the filthy tiles. Mould spots on the wall. The shower head was help up by an elastic band, the comp toiletries were half used! The location is great, but honestly there are much better options out there for the price. Shame as we really wanted to enjoy our Edinburgh experience.

This is a fantastic place to stay at a really good price for the location. We chose to stay here for our honeymoon in Edinburgh. In terms of location you're situated right beside Arthur's seat and around a 20-30 minute walk from the main city centre where the tourist locations are. There are bus stops within two minutes of the hotel though and nearly all of the services on this route go to exactly where you need to go. Google Maps is very good for Edinburgh's bus services. The buses are nice and easy to use too. They also tell you the name of each next stop which is why Google maps is good for those not familiar with the area as if you use this you will know the name of the stop you would like to depart at. I can't comment on the room I paid for because we were given a complimentary upgrade from the small double room to the superior double room. (I will add I didn't mention our honeymoon to staff so this was just a surprise lucky bonus) So the superior double room is quite large and has seating and a king size bed. The bathroom is a good size and the shower has great pressure and range of temperatures (a big judging point for me at any accommodation). There was a mini bar with access to cans of drink, bottles of beer and some snacks like nuts or chocolate as well as a bottle of wine available to purchase. I didn't use any of these but I'm sure some people do like using these facilities. There's plenty of shops nearby so I went to the local co-op. The breakfast is a cold continental breakfast and features fruits, cold meats, boiled eggs, cereals and you're offered tea, coffee and toast by the friendly staff. In all honesty we were full each time we ate down here so whilst some may prefer a full English, we were fine with this breakfast and were surprised how full we were since we would usually opt for a cooked breakfast. Regarding some reviews mentioning card details, it isn't uncommon in the UK for accomodations to do this. Some places will ask for a security deposit which you'll be returned at the end of your stay and other places including the Salisbury Hotel will take your bank details to cover any costs. It's not a shady practice at all and shouldn't alarm guests. These details are deleted after a period of time usually 14 days. I hope that any tourists coming here see this review to clear that confusion up on some older reviews.

Very disappointed, this supposed Boutique hotel is more like a B&B from 40 years ago. Tired rooms, faded decoration, curtains hanging off, furniture not just from Ikea, but Ikea like twenty years ago.|Laminated signs everywhere…don’t do this…do that…absolutely appalling. I even had a sign in my room saying “don’t close the curtains..they are for decorative purposes only “..wtf.|Breakfast was a farce… continental spread …meats, milk, cheese, yogurt etc…nothing chilled anywhere…an absolute health hazard. If you believe a hotel of this standard will throw the leftovers away…not a chance…it will sit out for a couple of hours,be put back in the fridge and brought out again the next morning.|Final point is there is no one on reception or in charge of this hotel from I think reception closes at 8pm till 7am the next morning. What if there’s a major emergency…say a fire? Mind boggling.|The best laugh is …this isn’t an inexpensive place either…check it out.
