The Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong

"How did it strike you on arrival? If you grew up with a YMCA, the name might make you think of well-used, fluorescent-lit athletic facilities. This is not that kind of YMCA. Skylights flood the three-story wood-paneled entrance with natural light. Inviting armchairs, potted plants, and a communal table made of a single chunk of gleaming wood anchor the Mall Cafe off to one side of the lobby. None of it is what we were expecting. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The many families and older international couples are likely here for the hotel's versatile room types, location, and reputation as Hong Kong’s best value. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The 372 rooms were renovated big-time in 2014. In the compact 180-square-foot single rooms (with a single bed) all the way up to the 530-square-foot Harbour View Suite there is a calming palette of beige, brown, and white. The Harbour View rooms showcase the multimedia Symphony of Lights every night at 8 p.m. and are relatively spacious at 250 square feet. This isn't a five-star luxury hotel, but you will find all the basic services, such as a kettle for tea and coffee, welcome fruit, and daily water. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?In every room except the singles, guests can specify either two single beds or one queen-sized bed. They’re comfortable, if a little stiff, with clean sheets and a pretty bed runner. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? This budget-friendly hotel sits next to the star-studded Peninsula hotel—in other words, a short stroll from the famous afternoon tea. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Neutral-toned bathrooms are spotless but basic, with a shower-tub combo and a granite-topped vanity. Just make sure to hit the switch for hot water before you hop in. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? You can use the free Wi-Fi on up to four devices per person. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The Salisbury is part of a larger sports complex, which means athletic types will have a lots of options—including a six-lane swimming pool, Jacuzzi, indoor rock climbing wall, squash courts, dance studio, and sauna. Guests are invited to use the large washing machines on the ninth floor, which are operated via tokens (collected from reception). Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner (and weekend afternoon tea), the Salisbury Dining Room provides harbor views and generous buffet spreads. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?We were pleased with the great value at the Salisbury and loved the views. We’d also recommend this hotel to the sporty—an indoor climbing wall is not a typical amenity. Our only hang up was communication with the staff. At times it was difficult to find a staff member who spoke fluent English, though senior staff and the concierge were very helpful. Bottom line: worth it, and why? With easy access to the Star Ferry, metro, and cruise terminal, The Salisbury offers an affordable and comfortable stay in the center of Hong Kong’s main arteries." - Kate Springer

I stayed at The Salisbury YMCA of Hong Kong for five nights and had an excellent experience overall. Check-in was smooth and efficient, with staff members who were warm, courteous, and professional from the moment I arrived.|The hotel’s security measures are impressive — key cards are required to access the elevators and guestroom floors, ensuring that only registered guests can enter. This made me feel very safe throughout my stay.|When it comes to the room, I was pleasantly surprised. Compared with other hotels in Hong Kong at a similar price point, the room was noticeably more spacious and comfortable, offering ample space to move around and relax. Everything was spotlessly clean. The only minor drawback would be the shower area, which felt a bit tight for taller or larger guests, but it was manageable.|The location is one of the hotel’s strongest points. Situated right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, it’s within walking distance of many attractions, shopping areas, and the harborfront. Convenience stores and restaurants are also nearby, making it easy to grab anything you need at any time.|Overall, The Salisbury YMCA of Hong Kong provides great value for its location, cleanliness, safety, and comfort. It’s a solid choice for both leisure and business travelers looking for reliable accommodation in Hong Kong.

We enjoyed the location and staff at the Hotel. Rooms were very clean and the staff very pleasant. However, I must say that the beds are very uncomfortable and very hard! It would also be nice to not charge paying hotel guests to use the pool as one would think it would be included in the amenaties of the hotel!|It would be nice if the cafe opened earlier for breakfast as we did have to seek out other venues for breakfast.

Close to the MTR, Nathan Road, Ocean Center and the Star Ferry, overlooking the harbor in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, the Salisbury is by far the at best location in Kowloon and at about a quarter the price of the Peninsula next door. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are well furnished and immaculately maintained. But the best thing about the Salisbury the understated not in-your-face level of service provided by everyone from the doorman to the housekeepers to the concierge to the front desk receptionists. Yes I’ve stayed at other hotels over the years when I’ve been in Hong Kong on business but since I’ve retired I always come back to the Salisbury.

The location is good, the atmosphere and rooms are great. Great stay at its value. Cleanliness of the hotel is also great for the rooms it have only per 3 days of cleaning. The service are great. The amenities like free water dispenser is so good especially that water in hk is a bit pricey. They also lend some things like umbrella, ironing board, and adopter. They have 24/7 service

Stayed here for 7 nights! Fantastic location to explore whole HK. There is a L6 MTR station right beside and L31 lift across. The star ferry and harbour within 5-10 mins walk. A lot of shops isquare n K11 mall all around. I downloaded the digital Octopus card on my iPhone and it was just so convenient to just scan with your phone for the trains, buses and most of restaurants or shops! My room is city view but can still see a bit of harbour at a corner. I can hear traffic noise people noise and the lift besides but it was bearable and i can still sleep well. Aircon was working v well. Like the hot shower as water warms up v quickly with good pressure! The room was clean with no smell except the towels have strong bleach smell. There was a water dispenser in the room with 3 temperatures 25, 45 and 95 cel, v convenient, instead of an electric kettle, so you can refill your water bottle with cool water and still make your hot coffee. Service was not bad esp concierge was helpful. Only a particular girl at reception counter on checking in was a bit curt. They offer toothbrush and tooth paste n shower cap as a set for I think hkd5. You can bring your own. They clear trash daily although only clean once in 3 days. There is a chapel at lvl 4 or 5 can’t remember, quite unusual for a hotel, but it was a good escape from the crowd. I like this hotel and I do recommend it.

I have stayed at The Salisbury YMCA many times before and have always had a very good experience. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. the only thing that I missed on this trip was the provision of coffee sticks to make a cup of coffee when I needed it. The service at "The Haven" restaurant was excellent again the staff was very helpful and attentive to my needs as I use a mobility walker. If I need to travel to Hong Kong again I would certainly use The Salisbury YMCA hotel again. Also the service at "The Mall Cafe " was excellent also the staff there were also very attentive to my needs. Overall I would rate the "The Salisbury YMCA" hotel five star, the location is also excellent.

Great hotel to live at in Hong Kong! It’s so spacious and big compared to other hotels here. The surrounding area is quiet and clean. Nearest train station is about a minute away, super convenient to everything. We got the highest floor so we had great water pressure and hot water, not sure if it’ll be the same for lower levels? Rooms were very clean and service was great!! Super value for money! Will recommend this hotel to everyone coming to Hong Kong!
