Great outdoor seating with sun and shade. Excellent wines (Imagery Barbera & Passaggio Pinot Grigio). Grilled chicken pesto sandwich was top notch and the Southwest Salad was fine - fit the menu's description, but didn't wow me; I would have liked more seasoning.

Google
Absolutely aw'sum lil' pub, not much 2 do in Glen Ellen, but the gals bartender were great, n the place actually got busy as the night went on. The patio area is off the hook. Recommended.

Google
What a fun place to go with teens and young adults. We went for dinner and drinks. They have a great outdoor patio next to a creek. The inside feels like an old school bar, you order food and drinks there and they give you a number for food. Super easy! They also have a pool table inside with everything you may need to play. We will definitely be coming back here.

Google
This is the best spot in Glen Ellen! Authentic atmosphere, good food, excellent customer service. On warm sunny days sit out at the patio along the creek. You definitely get a sense as to why Jack London loved the area so much. This is one of the places where it’s the best of wine country! Oh and it’s a good place to get a real hot dog or hamburger all the fixings. Delicious!

Google
We are visiting from the Philly area and found ourselves at Jack London two nights in a row. The bartender, Ian, was excited to see us back and had lots of recommendations for the area. We got the chicken pesto sandwich and the pulled pork. Both were amazing!!! Highly recommend if you are in Glen Ellen!

Google
We had such a great time enjoying a wonderful casual dinner at their outdoor terrasse. On Thursdays they have live music playing. It was so pleasant. The food and service were good. Maybe with the exception of the fries that came with the burger that were not super fresh. Otherwise, it was a great experience that we recommend. Come on Thursday evening!

Excellent outdoor seating area along the creek. Plenty of seats available. Indoor seating is also nice. Food and drinks are quickly prepared, and filling.

Google
Everything a small village bar/restaurant should be, including the finest outdoor patio in the Sonoma Valley -- Reel and Brand is next. Good beer selection, including a couple Hen House, a saison and hazy. Historic, country classy, good staff, has decent food too -- nothing fancy but better than most saloons. An absolute must (and 30+ year tradition for me) ...) is to hit this place after a Jack London park hike. Lots of Jack history at this spot. It's got something special -- try it, you'll like it.

Yelp
Super cute back patio with a pool table inside. Got the bbq burger and it did not disappoint. The fries were almost shoestring fries--the best.

Yelp
Great place for a drink with a nice patio and views but food was ehh not so great. We got the Thai chicken wings, Rueben and the French dip.

Royce R.

Yelp
Got the pulled pork sandwich. When it first came out looked run of the mill. Boy was I wrong! Best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had, hands down. This is the second time I have been to the saloon and they are 2 for 2. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it.

Yelp
This place was right down the hill from Benzinger Winery. It was a recommendation from Yelp and our tractor tour operator. We stopped in with no ressie found a seat and ordered food from the bar. I think that may be a bit overwhelming on a crowded night. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. There was 2 well behaved dogs in the saloon on leashes but still interesting. I like to look and feel of the restaurant (saloon). Outside the patio was very nice size and on a nicer day would've loved sitting and listening to the river flowing by. The burgers came out quickly and were really good. The bartender was great and over all it was reasonably priced. This is a nice gem.

Yelp
Cool, funky ambience with an authentic vintage vibe. Food is mediocre and disappointing.

Yelp
Such a cool, moody Saloon, we arrived early evening, it was dark in the beautiful hamlet of Glen Ellen. We managed to grab the front window table with a couple of leather club chairs, a great place to get a view of the bar and it patrons. And we arrived just in time because the crowds were just forming. We ponied up to the bar got our drinks then decided to have some good pub grub. So we got back in line at the bar and ordered a cheese burger and some other sandwich my friend ordered, it's in the photo. They also have daily specials and that night was a prime rib offering. A little too much meat for me and if I recall it had a $40 price tag. Within a few minutes a server came out set up our small table and dropped off our grub. I was pretty hungry by that time, the burger was great and the fries too. The prices are fair and the portions are generous. Since we were in the main part of the bar it was getting really loud, but it's kinda expected in that atmosphere. They do have a quieter area just through the open doorway. They also have a big outdoor patio but it was too cold to sit out there that evening. They may have heat lamps but I didn't pay attention. I've been to Glen Ellen so many times and there is always new restaurants, and shops opening and closing there, but this place has been a staple in the small town of Glen Ellen for ages and I'm embarrassed to say it's the first time I've set foot inside. But I'd do it again. It has a great authentic vibe.

Yelp
Good options for lunch. Several beers to choose from. Service is quick and friendly. Nice patio area to have lunch it. Would come back again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
I always enjoy this place. Good food, great setting. Beautiful patio when the weather is nice. Nice selection of beers and full bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a Monday night and the place was pretty empty. Drinks are good. The fried shrimp app was excellent. The Caesar salad and chicken noodle soup were rather bland. Food came out quickly. It is just fine for a drop in bite to eat or to have a cocktail or beer, but it is not a destination place. That said, they have a huge patio on the creek that looks quite inviting on a warm, sunny day. That might make it a more elevated experience.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and every time we love the outdoor seating. It is so pleasant and relaxing. We enjoy their food, we've gotten the burger and fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed them. There weren't any waiters so it was almost like a self service. We had to get up to order inside and get water/ refill. Only reason for four stars. Otherwise it's a great place!

Yelp
I loved this place. We visited the area and personally I love the author Jack London so I had to stop by. I'm happy I did. The bar was busy but the staff worked hard keeping our drinks coming. The food was amazing! Honestly with a busy night, no empty seats, I wasn't expecting much but my burger was so delicious! The fries perfect.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and drinks!Highly recommend for the patio and live band. We didn't have the food but other patrons said it was great.

Yelp
During our visit to The Saloon at Jack London Square, we were both blown away by the incredible food and warm atmosphere. We were actually visiting Glen Ellen for the first time, and it was the perfect chill Saturday night. I opted for the bone-in pork chop with a luscious blackberry sauce, and it was absolutely mouthwatering. The pork was perfectly cooked--juicy and tender--and the blackberry sauce added a beautiful balance of sweetness and tang that really elevated the dish. My wife chose the Reuben, which was piled high with tender corned beef, melted Swiss, and tangy sauerkraut, all sandwiched between homemade, perfectly grilled rye bread. We enjoyed our meal on the charming patio next to the creek, which made the whole experience even more delightful. The peaceful setting combined with the exceptional food made for a great dining experience. The service was friendly and attentive as well. Definitely a must-visit spot in Sonoma County wine country!

Yelp
I love coming here. All the bones and local history of a great saloon. The food is usually pretty good - for a saloon. It's a saloon, not a fine dining establishment, so set your expectations accordingly. The french dip and fish n chips are some of my favorites. French fries are on point too, nice and crisp. Haven't been for Prime Rib night yet, but it's on the list. Sitting out on the sun filled patio with the creek rushing by is awesome! If you're lucky, they'll have a band playing on the patio some nights too! Definitely recommend for a cold beer, your favorite cocktail and excellent pub food.

Sherry N.

Yelp
Fun place to grab a bite and a drink. Wish they would carry more than 1 option for NA (NonAlcohol) beer like a nice NAIPA!! Times are changing not everyone wants to drink alcohol!

Dusty J.

Yelp
Terrible food. Perhaps frozen / packaged? At one point they stopped taking orders because they were too busy? Huh? Staff were all nice, but very flustered.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is otherwise great, but so sad management changed their food menu. We used to love to come for the menu and especially the great hotdogs. In an area that desperately needs restaurant food options and some good bar eats (apart from the froufrou tourist spots), I think this is a real opportunity missed. We won't be coming here as often to drink as a result.

Stephen K.

Yelp
We stopped from some drinks before our reservation at a local restaurant. Our bartender, Erin, offered some good drink suggestions. The saloon was very busy for a Sunday evening. A good vibe from the locals. We enjoyed our cocktails and conversation with Erin. Definitely a place we will visit again when we return to the area.

Yelp
I love their patio along the creek. It's the perfect place to grab a fairly cheap ($9-10) glass of wine and sit in a beautiful setting. The bathroom is generally very clean for a bar as well. My recommendation stops about there though. I cannot recommend the food here, as it's simply mediocre bar food at restaurant prices. The fish and chips are below average and the margherita flatbread is the worst food I've had at a restaurant in as long as I can remember. I would suggest no food or sticking with just a snack like a side of fries or chips to have with your drink, and having a full meal elsewhere. Literally anywhere else in a reasonable radius would offer better food. I am thinking this place could try reducing the length of the menu in order to focus more attention on improving fewer items. I think using fresher, homemade ingredients would be a place to start. I also think the bartender could try to be nicer to customers. She is always so cold. The food runners are always very nice though. Lastly, on my most recent visit, I was either given the incorrect beer, or the beer was old, or tap was dirty. I ordered a common beer I've had numerous times but what I got tasted completely off. I ended up with a stomach ache later, though it could've easily been from the bad food instead of the bad beer.

Yelp
The Glen Ellen Saloon If you are looking for a bar with good drinks and service, look no further than the Saloon. They have a classic large bar and make wonderful drinks. We had a nice round of cocktails following a day of winetasting's. The bar area was completely full, so we enjoyed the large backyard deck. The food is solid bar food. We had a few well-prepared appetizers.

Yelp
We loved the food and vibe at the Jack London Saloon, especially during Covid times. The outdoor patio is lovely, adjacent to a creek with socially distanced tables. They have a tented area and heaters for dinner. Had the Sonoma burger and it was perfectly medium rare, with yummy pepperjack cheese, aioli and bacon. Hubby had fish and chips and thought they were great, not too greasy and good portions. They have a wide variety of beers and a full bar inside. You order and pay at the bar inside and server brings out the food. It was so good that we had lunch and dinner there the same day (we were staying next door at the lodge). There are only four restaurants in town so give them a shot. Down to earth people in wine country.

Yelp
woooah did this place have a change of ownership? The new menu sucks! Super expensive menu for a bar experience and the new food is yuck. I wish they'd bring the old menu back.

James O.

Yelp
Went here last night. Was hoping to relax on the outside deck and enjoy a meal. We've had the same thing on the menu in the past. They're still on the online menu. Wedge salad and a spicy Cajun chicken sandwich. We wait to order at the bar like you must do. Bartender is totally involved in making drinks involving fire. A woman is filling ice storage with buckets. Doesn't even look at us. After 5 minutes bartender says, you want a menu? I'll get to you after the drinks are made. I say sure, knowing what we want to order won't take long. Oh, our favorites are no longer on the menu, that are on the online menu. We continue to wait for a bit, thinking we'll get something else. But you know, screw it. We left. Nobody gives a crap.

Napalai S.

Yelp
Love the outdoor seating by the creek, very relaxing, food was great. The service is nice.

Yelp
Super informal place. We walked in the side door and just sat down at a table when no one approached us. Someone asked if we just came in and gave us menus. The food selection is small bar type fare. It was ok. Have to go the bar for drink orders. The kitchen seems to not be affiliated with the bar people, as we were directed to one or the other depending upon what we were asking for. Its a cool old building in a great location. Seems to be a local hangout. Smokers go right outside the door and leave it wide open to smoke, so we both freeze and have to smell their cigs or pot. I probably wouldn't go back to eat there.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
Great fun to eat outside on their deck. And they often have live music. Perfect for an early summer dinner.
google avatar

Morty S.

Yelp
Been comming for years for food, it was always decent and pretty consistent. Whoever the genius is that decided to completely change the entire menu...including all the favorites??? U must be a real business brain!!! Jesus Christ wtf would u ever think that's a good idea. If u want to add some of this crap for pride month, that's ur choice. But don't take away the Cajun sando and the burgers. U deserve to fail for this moronic move. Let someone take it over that actually has a clue and cares.

Yelp
Do not go to this bar for a good time. Were in the valley for a small family wedding and rented every room at the hotel for 3 days. Way over priced for the Motel 6 like accommodations. Everything started out fine and the staff at both places seemed to appreciate the 60 or so people we had in our party that spent well over 20k at the hotel and bar over the 3 days. Until the last evening when our entire party was asked to leave the bar at 7pm for no reason. We were sitting at various tables enjoying food and drinks and at no point were we loud or out of line. The owner/manager decided the party was over for us at asked all of us to leave giving us vague and seemingly zero explanation for booting us. Many members of my family and friends are professional entertainers , bartenders and wait staff and have lived our lives working in the service industry. We have had our wilder days and have been kicked out of much nicer places for several reasons but this was not the case at The Jack London Saloon. These folks just decided they had milked us for all the money they needed for the week and booted us for no apparent reason. If one or two people were over served then why not ask them to leave or cut them off with a warning instead of kicking us all out into the street???? Still I never even saw anyone that was out of line. With zero options in Glenn Ellen we went back to our 20 or so rooms made some drinks and went to the hot tub for about 30 min before the same grumpy old manager woman kicked us out of there and told us we were not allowed to gather in our rooms or on the balcony and to go to bed. This is now about 9:30 . If you enjoy being shouted at , insulted and treated like children then this is the place for you!!! We are all in out mid 40's to late 50's and were at no point out of line. Even after being told that we were not the clientele they normally catered to and that we were not welcome after spending a large chunk of money we did not respond negatively until now. So If you are planning to visit the lovely town of Glenn Ellen make plans to stay and drink and eat anywhere other than the Jack London Lodge and Saloon.

Yelp
Welcome back an old tradition...The Jack London Saloon popcorn is back on Mondays... bar and patio are fun hangouts

Yelp
First we must thank Armond for his amazing service. Usually one goes to the bar to order but Armond decided to take us under his wing and give us perfect table service - how lovely. I can't believe this is our first time here since we live so close - we will be back! A great old time bar scene with a couple excellent TVs in place for sports and all! 3 of us had burgers and everyone loved them - and they were cooked to perfection from medium rare to well done - with yummy toppings. Two of us had the flank steak sandwiches with a blue cheese sauce that was amazing! And their shoestring onion rings - a must have. We will be back - yum!

Yelp
Great atmosphere Good drinks and excellent food! Service could be better but the rest makes up for it

Yelp
Pre Covid great staff. Bartenders can come across not too friendly at times. Post Covid the staff is slow and non responsive. Love the patio! Hoping the service changes otherwise go down the road, the competition is good in Sonoma!

Yelp
We stayed at the lodge 10/1-10/2 2023. Went over to the saloon for an early dinner. We are from out of town so know nothing of the local "vibe". It seems like a small quaint little town, which it is. We thought the atmosphere would feel the same. Well...it didn't. I cant tell you exactly why, but nothing felt welcoming. We entered, and there is no direction as to whether you seat yourself, proceed out to the patio on your own, wait for a hostess...or what? I admit I am not a bar person, or familiar with "saloon" etiquette. But is it too much to ask for any kind of direction? Is a small printed sign saying order at bar, or something similar so out of line? Eventually we meandered out by the back door to the patio area, kind of hung around looking "lost" expecting someone to notice that we needed some kind of help....nothing...no eye contact, no acknowledgement....do we even exist? We seated ourselves at a table (which I hate to do, in case that isn't the way it works), and waited to see if we would be assisted. We were not. After noticing others at tables holding what seemed like numbers of some sort, my wife suggested maybe you need to order at a counter. I went inside, and saw nothing to indicate where to order....stood near the bar for several minutes trying to get bartenders attention....no luck...she was engaged in much obvious talk with familiar regulars....at one point did "glance" at me and tossed a couple of menus at me on the bar, but hustled away before I could ask her the protocol. I admit I was tired and irritable, so maybe it was me, but this just isn't my thing. Enough of this ****. I returned to the table, voiced my desire to leave but my wife asked me to "chill". She noticed what appeared to be a serve yourself "water station" to obtain your own water, so my wife got us waters. Meanwhile servers of some sort walked by us numerous times as if we didn't exist, with foods for various different tables, so someone was ordering food from someone somewhere! I have to say, this kind of thing annoys me no end generally speaking. I do not like uncertainty. I do not care for murky wishy washy policy. I am a perfectionist, and expect ( I know stupidly) some degree of clarity from those supposedly serving others as their job. For example I never warmed up to Panera (the fast casual chain), because I never know where you are supposed to place your order, for a drink, versus, a sandwich, versus, a salad, etc.! Different counter locations for different things. How do I know the drinks are ordered at the other end...you as a cashier are right in front of me, but when I attempt to order I get an eye roll and made to feel as if I'm an idiot because I don't know the procedures that make sense to YOU corporate Panera. I know I sound like a pain, which I probably am, but for those like me of a similar ilk, maybe this review is for you! Anyway, since I was entering a surly mood my wife decided to take the bull by the horns ( I just wanted to leave), and went inside and deciphered the ordering process, and placed our food orders with the bartender, (which she had to figure out by watching others do so...oh so no patience for this myself!). Of course it didn't help, that after all of this, the items listed on their website that I had planned to order, really are NO LONGER AVAILABLE, because the menu has changed! Will it never end?! In any case she found the bartender friendly, and helpful. Maybe I was putting off some kind of vibe? Anyway, eventually, we did receive our food which was unremarkable, and even my wife said "it's okay", but acknowledged she wouldn't be too excited to return either. So take this review for what its worth. I'm not a fan as you can tell.

Yelp
I had a great experience having a snack and glass of wine at Jack London Saloon. I had my toddler with me, and the wait staff was so accommodating! They quickly brought an order of fries, and brought a coloring book with crayons. The food was delicious, patio is gorgeous and they have a nice selection of wines by the glass.

Terri H.

Yelp
Still the best burger around! New menu is hard to read, but bartender, Mickey, is great hostess and guide for all your drinking and eating needs. Love to come here anytime I'm in town. Makes a great outing/destination. Building is historic, town is quaint and fun to stroll around.

Gillian K.

Yelp
Great staff & backyard setting for larger groups without dinner reservations. Small interior venue with huge outdoor space in the back
google avatar

Glen N.

Yelp
Full of locals, sure, but not a problem for people like me who are friendly, respectful and patient. Awesome lodge-like place with pool table, juke box, and FREE POPCORN! It was always full (until I got there, at least) and you had a choice of two sizes of bowls and parmesan cheese. We came twice in one day. The day bartender was super friendly; the night bartender not so much, but his pour was friendly. His pour had a big big smile. Normally I wouldn't give a place five stars without a consistent good pour, but I like this place. The patio is pretty enough for a wedding, though I don't recommend it. Not the venue, I mean getting married in general.

Kaitlin H.

Yelp
OMG WE HAD THE BEST TIME. If you want to do a down-to-earth, super fun, wine country wedding... you've gotta host it here. Our actual wedding ceremony and reception was up the hill at our friend's family farm and winery, but the Jack London Lodge and Saloon served as the basecamp for our Wedding Weekend, and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. These folks know how to throw a great party and make you feel so relaxed and in the spirit. Kim, their Events Manager, is THE BEST. She hooked us up with a gorgeous welcome gathering in their Private Dining Area on Friday Night, and helped me plan an epic party after the wedding on Saturday night. She went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure that our guests had the best time, and that my partner and I felt really special throughout the entire weekend. Kim and the bartenders even have a special tradition that they do with the brides that was really fun :) We bought out the entire Jack London Lodge for our family and friends, and Bruce and Kim were amazing at making sure that everyone got tucked into their rooms, and had everything they needed. We also had a really lovely brunch by the pool area on Sunday with pastries and coffee from the local market which was such a sweet and low-key way to hang before all of our guests set off to travel back home. Kim and Bruce were so great to work with. They kept it real, and did everything in their power to accommodate all of our wishes, and it exceeded our expectations. We're so excited to be able to go back to Glenn Ellen and visit the Saloon and remember our incredible Wedding Weekend for years to come. Cheers!

Yelp
It's a beautiful setting food is good but nothing to rave about. The bartender that seems to be working every time I go is meh. The blonde/gingerish girl that never smiles and has attitude is very unenjoyable. I would rather tip the sweet women who bring me my food with a smile. The whole situation of having to stand at the bar to order and then tip the bartender is pretty lame. She did nothing except punch something in a computer and expect a tip. And she's not pleasant!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! Small Town intimacy at the bar. Bartender was nice but was training the day we went in so naturally a bit harried. Love the atmosphere of this place

Yelp
Came in on advice of others at local watering hole. Met the Commodore, burger was good.. should be for $14 Fish n chips.. 2 pieces good one horrible, fries nice. Brought vinegar.. Mixed drinks, reasonable. Next time the Hot Dog..lol

Yelp
Great hamburgers and fun atmosphere. Just so happy to have them in our hood! Play pool or watch a game with friends and family.

Yelp
Been going here for a number of years. A real bar (tavern). Welcoming. The large patio shouldering the creek is always lovely in the Spring and Summer. The most I have eaten there are fries and Mozzarella sticks (which I adore) and they are great! Leeanne is a great bartender. A perfect place to be!

Yelp
The first sign of trouble was when our small group of families entered at 8:45 pm for dinner, and we learned the kitchen was closing at 9 pm. One of us overheard the bartender say to the waitress "I hate everyone in this party". Wow...not exactly a big wave of the hospitality flag, especially considering these folks also owned the motel we were staying in. At that point, had there been an alternative close-by, the group would have moved on in a heartbeat. But orders were grumpily taken, and food was eventually served, and it was all...OK. Most importantly, the kids got fed. (They had a morning soccer game to fuel up for). For a place in wine country, the crowd here was surprisingly blue collar; I'd say about 75% locals. There were also an alarming number of drunks at 9:30 pm on a Friday. (Lightweights!!) Beers were cheap though, even the good stuff ($4 a pint!). The giant big-screen TV was a great place to catch some sports during the following afternoon. Fresh popcorn in the back corner was a nice touch. Decor and setting was pretty good too. This appears to be a historic brick building from before the turn of the century; Woodwork inside is all mahogany. Unfortunately the service continued to suck on our multiple visits. It's really a shame our overall treatment here didn't match the surroundings. Consequently, I can't give the Jack London Saloon a passing grade.

Yelp
This was stop #4 on our self guided Bottle Shock tour. This is where they filmed the scenes in Joe's bar. When Spurier is sitting at the table with all the wines, you can see the Jack London window emblem behind him. Everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves when we came through for a visit. Your typical mellow dive bar type of atmosphere, dark wood, brick, etc. There's a great room in the back with a pool table and the bathrooms were clean. They were setting up for some kind of dinner in what seems to be an adjoining restaurant. We were walking around snapping pictures and didn't get any dirty looks. To me, that means the locals are pretty cool folks. I could definitely seem myself hanging out here for awhile if I was staying in the area. They have deep fried oreos? How did I miss that??

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday, on Father's Day for a nice cold beer after hiking in Jack London State Park. I gotta say, I don't want to give this place too much of a glowing review or it won't be my secret spot anymore. It's absolutely awesome, inside and out! I love the patio next to the creek. We only had a drink so no food review but the food did look scrumptious. I did, however help myself to the popcorn in the pub. That is a very nice touch, when you are drinking beers. I can't wait to go back and eat! I could become a regular here, easily....

Yelp
Free popcorn! 14 bar stools, large seating area to gather, a pool table, happy hour specials, Umbria does the food! 2 large TVs, a locals bar in the middle of wine country. Oh and they have a huge outdoor patio. It really is a special little Gem!

Yelp
Great old brick building with neat photos and posters of Jack London related memorabilia, faux Tiffany pendant light fixtures and homey wood and leather furniture. Pool tables and TVs. The HUGE deck out back over the creek looked nice but it was closed for the season. The bartender was very friendly and helpful despite running the house alone and being busy. I was surprisingly satisfied with the grilled salmon sandwich (cooked medium on a crusty ciabatta roll) with a side salad (mixed greens with vinaigrette, no toppings). Husband did not enjoy the garlic fries (bag/frozen with minced garlic from a jar dumped on top) or the mozzarella sticks (also bag/frozen, very bland). We didn't order alcohol and that's kind of the point at a pub but all things considered I'd say stop in and give it a try.

We stayed at the lodge next door and came here twice for dinner and all three nights to drink with the locals. What an absolutely perfect venue. There were heaters outside for when it cooled off, the scenery was beautiful, and we can't wait to come back. Armand and Erin were our bartenders, and made great recommendations. The food was phenomenal! Perfect burger, best fish and chips we've ever tried, and the salmon sandwich was so delicious and not overcook. I can't wait to go back.
