The Salvation Army Thrift Store & Donation Center

In a time of economic struggles SSF Salvation Army has decided starting this week to price individual items. Some items are absolutely insane, expect $17 jeans and $50 dresses. I witnessed multiple fast fashion brands Cider, Shein, Fashionova... items costing no more than $4 new being sold for $7+ used. Pricing items individually puts more work on their staff who now have to price everything. After standing in a very long check out I overheard the cashier telling a customer their scanner is down so they have to type everything in individually. So management decides to implement this harsh price tactic and then ensures their employees do not have the proper equipment to keep up with the new tags??? It's disgusting behavior from South San Francisco's management team to charge their community more and not have full support of their employees. We can see from Goodwill bins that it does not matter how expensive they want to charge. These clothes will still end up in a landfill if overpriced and SSF Salvation Army does not care. As an almost weekly regular I will only be going on their $2 clothing days moving forward. That's really the only reason to step foot in the building otherwise thanks to their crappy management team.

The experience was overall pretty good. I could find nice clothes, it was cheaper than Goodwill, and the cashier was very sweet and patient with me. I also like how the place is very spacious, which makes it easier to maneuver and find other people if you’re shopping with others. Although my experience was good, I cannot give all 5 stars due to a few minor things. The place seemed to have no air conditioning, which made it very sweaty and it didn’t smell the greatest in a few sections. Some of the items seemed to be a bit too dirty. I know it’s a thrift store so it’s second hand, but it seemed like they didn’t wash it before selling it, which is a bit gross. There was also a few little kids running around unsupervised. Around the age of a toddler. I think the store should be just a bit stricter about leaving your kids around alone, because in general it’s just not a good thing to be doing when they’re that young. Overall, I liked my experience there, but if you could fix up just a few things it would be better.

This is the best donation center I know. No appointment necessary. Well organized.

I have found some great items there! Prices are fair and staff is nice! Would love if they would have a bathroom again.

Great selection, I always discover great finds but they need to open the dressing rooms, they’ve been closed since Covid and it’s so frustrating I can never try anything on. Please address this!!

They have some good sales but most stuff is way overpriced for what it is. The workers try really hard to keep the clothes neat but I think unless you get there when it opens its going to be picked over by hipsters filling their carts and reselling on ebay. The quality of items has gone down and prices have gone up. Same thing as the dollar store with unsupervised kids running around. You would think with so many creeps on the news ppl would care about their kids more but no. Long lines and usually just one cashier. You could probably do better at Walmart or a garage sale because of the price gouging. Finding empty boxes that ppl have stolen from is depressing. No one seems happy in the slightest bit here. Back in the farthest left area by the towels and blankets there's gross stains and mold on the floor on the disgusting rug. This place used to be much better. The one in san bruno on el camino that was there for decades was really good but that's been gone for years. I keep trying to patronize this store when I visit my hometown every couple months but the fun of thinking I'm going to find something nice at a good price seems to have gone away and lots of the clothing seems more second rate as opposed to second hand. Shrunken wool sweaters, items with stains or holes. Really feel like they are likely selling the better donations to other shops and now we're getting the dregs. It sucks because SA does do good works helping ppl but the experience , price gouging and lack of quality items is disappointing. If they're going to have not so great stuff it should be prices accordingly.

I like this location because it's spacious and close by. I have found some items but most of the time they don't have a price and I'm quoted at the checkout. I was surprised when I got up to the cashier and asked for pricing and a not-so-good condition porcelain doll in which I got the response that it was worth $300 and I could get it for $60. Um no thanks. Then it was dropped to $30. Still no thanks. I was put off by this and skipped the item. Seems shady

My first time going to this store!! They have so many items!!! Very organized and clean, great variety and reasonable prices!!
