The Best Hotels in Barbados

"A little smaller than its sister hotel, The Coral Reef Club (tucked just north along the west coast), The Sandpiper shares its easy-going elegance despite its position on the lively outskirts of tourist-heavy Holetown. The patch of golden sand and turquoise sea it backs onto is rarely empty, which makes for first-rate people watching and charting the progress of sailing boats and water skiers. While compact, the hotel is ensconced in tropical gardens, with bougainvillea, palms, and ferns springing from every angle. Rooms oscillate between a traditional, wicker-and-mahogany aesthetic and a more contemporary one, though all spring to life with bright colors and prints. A large sun deck, suspended above the sand, makes the most of ethereal beach views, particularly as the sun burns the horizon a deep crimson at sunset. Rum cocktails in hand and deck shoes flicked off, guests relish The Sandpiper’s informal spirit. Even the refined open-air restaurant, ring-fenced by torch-lit tropical gardens and koi ponds, demands little more than a linen shirt for tasty plates of Bajan flying fish, Caribbean shrimp, and lobster salads. And while afternoons are easily whiled away alongside the large pool or magazine-ready lap pool lined with inviting creamy parasols, the Coral Club’s palatial spa is but a concierge call away. —Rosalyn Wikeley" - Angelina Villa-Clarke, Rosalyn Wikeley

The Sandpiper

"Loyalists abound at the Sandpiper – return visitors jostle for bookings year after year. Their devotion is well-earned: family run for now two generations, with all the requisite perks of beachfront Caribbean luxury – tile floors, indoor-outdoor feel in the guestrooms, and lush gardens. Complimentary water sports, fine dining – private elegance will make you a fan"

Only getting used to being back now and getting around to writing a review. It was a dream! My husband and I went to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had an amazing time from start to finish. The staff are amazing and made my birthday extra special. Too many lovely people to name check. The food is great. Would recommend half board - we didn’t opt for it as we thought it was only breakfast and dinner and we wanted to go out for some meals. We only found out on our last day you could’ve had lunch or dinner so could be flexible eating out - this would have saved us money. Only downside is the building next door but when that is done, it really will be perfect. You can live with it though it’s worth it.

If hadn’t been for the construction work waking us up at 6:30/7:00 most days it would be 5/5. Truly wonderful small gem of a hotel. Great location good beach and pools. We tend to favour small hotels and leading hotels group hotels and this did not disappoint. Large well equipped suite with separate living room and kitchenette and massive terrace. Breakfast and lunch and dinner all to a very high standard. Only encountered small issue at dinner one evening when heading for table we had had before to be told was reserved for another group who from conversations we knew were returners. That was the only time felt at a disadvantage but was just a minor annoyance. Service was spot on. One night we dined at Coral Reef next door and that was lovely too. As an aside we went to Tides lovely location and building but felt the hotel food far better. Bar staff were brilliant and didn’t bat an eyebrow when asked for a Frappuccino which was lovely. As for the strawberry daiquiri well probably the best ever had and I’m known for my love of cocktails. A great location if want to wander into Holetown. Swimming in the sea was sublime. Warm clear water and didn’t need to snorkel to seee fish. Housekeeping was top notch and loved the turn down biscuits. |Loved to see the birds and hear the frogs though boy are they loud 😂 beautifully kept gardens.|We will definitely return and hopefully by then the construction will be complete.

We stayed at The Sandpiper last week and it was like stepping back in time to old school classic service which is unbeatable. From the moment you arrive and being greeted by name from the General Manager, to every step of your stay, the staff cannot do enough for you and nothing is too much bother! They are friendly but also happy in their work which creates a wonderful environment to be in! The hotel is clean, well kept with a wonderful aesthetic, we were out of season, but never did it feel overcrowded or too many people! The pools are well situated and the beach is a lovely stretch just a stones throw from the main hotel areas! There are many shops and restaurants in walkable areas and the sister hotel of The Coral Reef offers a fantastic spa which I visited a few times throughout our stay! A true testament to this hotel is, that now at another hotel on the island for our last few days, we continue to wish we were back at The Sandpiper!

We stayed at The Sandpiper in a one bedroom suite in May after having spent a week on the tiny island of Bequia in the Grenadines. Barbados was very busy in comparison!||Our room was outstanding, housekeeping was excellent, although the evening turn-down service was after 8.30pm on a couple of occasions, irritating primarily as I missed out on the lovely bedtime biscuit 🥰. The balcony was enormous and very well furnished and we found the kitchen area, particularly the fridge and coffee machine very useful. Our only comment relates to the construction occurring next door, it started every day every pre 6 am and continued well into the evening. Whilst inside the room, the impact was minimal but the balcony was noisy (and I am a very early riser). This is obviously a short-term problem which I appreciate the hotel tries to manage. ||Like many guests we opted for Breakfast only. This was a delight, superb choice of hot and cold options and my build my own bacon and egg bagel with a side of mushrooms made the lovely egg chef chuckle everyday. Morning juice shot was lovely. No need for lunch. We ate at the hotel twice in the evening, and the food and service was outstanding on both occasions, perhaps a little more relaxed outside at Jacks Bar, but entirely a personal preference, we enjoyed both. ||The hotel is situated very close to Holetown and it’s an easy walk to numerous restaurants and a large supermarket and medical centre (which we unfortunately did need to visit but it was a simple and quick experience). The 5 minute walk is very dusty (due to the aforementioned construction) and the road is pretty busy. ||I had a massage at Coral Reef which was an indulgent 80 minutes of calm. ||We walked along the beach every day and my husband disappeared for ages in the kayak. Getting into and out of the sea was easy and there was no seaweed. ||Overall, Sandpiper lived up to its excellent reviews and clearly is a home from home for its many repeat guests, which probably do get more attention from the management than first timers but we were very happy with our choice and would have no hesitation in recommending it or booking when we next visit Barbados.

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at The Sandpiper. Previously we have stayed at a number of locations on the West Coast, and whilst the Bajan people are always very hospitable The Sandpiper takes this to a new level. The Sandpiper staff go out of their way to speak, chat and develop a relationship with you, whilst providing a first class service. Everyone was great but a special note of thanks to Larmar, Patrick, Sergio and Bob the tennis coach.|Location was perfect for us on the edge of Holetown, the beach was great, the rooms were well appointed and the food and drink excellent. We will be back next year.

My wife and I stayed at the Sandpiper during the last week of May 2025. This was our first visit to Barbados. We enjoy traveling and the Sandpiper was recommended to us by another couple. ||Our experience at the Sandpiper was outstanding from the moment we booked our trip to the moment we checked out. The resort itself is beautiful, with very nice, clean rooms and lush landscaping. We stayed in room #3, which we would highly recommend. The food at the main restaurant and beach bar was very good, with several good menu options. The beach is beautiful and we spent much of day laying out in comfortable lounge chairs overlooking the beach and going for a swim. In addition to providing a pitcher of water by your lounge chair, every day a staff member would come by our lounge chairs in the late morning with homemade Sorbet ice cream. ||The entire staff at the Sandpiper were friendly, responsive and professional throughout our stay. Over the course of the week, we enjoyed getting to know many members of the team on a more personal level. My wife and I have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and other parts of the world. The service and experience provided by the team at the Sandpiper is second to none. We found the other outstanding Trip Advisor reviews for the Sandpiper to be very accurate. After staying at the Sandpiper, we totally understand why so many guests return to the Sandpiper year after year.||To the entire team at the Sandpiper, thank you! This was the best vacation and all of you were the reason for such a wonderful and memorable experience.

We had a lovely stay. It's a great location and the breakfast is great. Staff are really nice. Overall, we found it a little cliquey and noticed that the regular clientele got served a lot quicker at the bar, which was frustrating. At one afternoon, when I raised my hand to try to order a drink, the waiter told me to wait and then served 2 more customers that hat just arrived.
