The Sandy Duck, Falmouth, Cornwall, UK - Explore & Book

"After sailing the world as a stewardess on luxury yachts, Freyja Ducker returned to the UK to be nearer family. But she decided to put her hospitality experience to good use, scouring the country for the perfect B&B before stumbling across this faded Edwardian townhouse. The results of her year-long renovation are stunning. Behind the hot-pink front door lie a light-filled breakfast room, a cosy lounge where a fire crackles in winter, and 8 beautiful bedrooms that blend Scandinavian simplicity with English quirkiness. Throughout, calming colours and clean lines are warmed by snuggly throws and sheepskins, and walls are dotted with artworks by Freyja’s mother and sister, including an eye-catching piece created from the roof’s old joists. We were greeted with enthusiastic tail-wagging by resident dog Rhubarb, who set the scene for the informal, friendly atmosphere: the feel here is more home than hotel. It’s ideally located for exploring – the town centre is a 10-minute walk in one direction, beaches 10 minutes in the other, and the Roseland Peninsula lies just across the Fal Estuary. Return to sink-into sofas and an excellent night’s sleep, followed by a slap-up Cornish breakfast. It’s easy to see why The Sandy Duck has received rave reviews since opening in spring 2017, and we loved it, too. Highs Stylish and great-value rooms, all but one with views across Falmouth Bay, and some with window seats or freestanding tubsA relaxed, kick-your-shoes-off vibe that puts you instantly at easeDelicious breakfasts packed with local produce, plus daily home-baked cakes in your roomFalmouth itself – a vibrant university town with an array of restaurants, boutiques, museums and galleries, plus 4 beaches A great option for a car-free break - it’s easily accessible by train, and you can explore on foot and ferry Lows It’s on the edge of town, but the upshots are peace and plenty of parking – and it’s an easy stroll into the centreHot breakfast dishes are only served until 9.30am, but you can linger as long as you want over the cold buffetNo lunch or dinner menu, but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distanceFreyja is waiting for an alcohol licence so there’s no honesty bar – in the meantime, bring your own drinks to enjoy in your room" - Abi Dare

We stayed one night at the Sandy Duck and had a delightful experience. The staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful. Our room was on the ground floor, and despite that we were not over-looked as it is shielded with flora and fauna and there is even a view of the sea. Breakfast was delicious - eggs and smoked salmon for me, mushrooms, hummus and eggs for my husband. Both were beautifully presented and served by a particularly friendly and gracious waitress - it was her first day. Despite being on a main road, the Sandy Duck is very quite, and its location makes it convenient both for the beach and the town centre, you can walk everywhere. it was a shame our stay was so brief, but we will be back and we are very happy to recommend it to everyone.

A wonderful B&B where you are greeted with such warmth and friendliness. Very nice rooms, a charming atmosphere, and a great location close to all the main attractions in Falmouth. It's also absolutely first-class for us as dog owners. We have stayed at the Sandy Duck several times, and we will definitely be back!

Excellent guest house with well appointed rooms & easy walking distance of the town centre & great seafood restaurants. Like it so much we extended. A couple of minor niggles - in both rooms we occupied the lighting was on the fritz, clearly nobody servicing rooms checking lights. The service level.was very good, but when evening service was supposed to close at 7pm, one night it closed at 6.40 so nobody there to provide drinks service or answer an important query. Very frustrating but minor. Otherwise heartily recommended.

Amazing stay at The Sandy Duck. We were in room 1 which was really lovely, bright and spacious. Short walking distance to the beach. The service and breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip.

Location of the House is really nice and also the atmosphere inside , it's just 10min walk to the Beach . Definitely it's worth staying here , although not more than 2 days especially of you have your room with Sea View as it's literally facing the street and during night time there's a lot of noise due to traffic ,so the house doesn't have any Soundproof. Also , there's no AC (there was a Dyson fan but didn't helped ) so on hot days you need try to fall asleep with the windows open and get used with the noise from outside . Breakfast was great . Bathroom was nice aswell but needs full cover on shower glass as the water reaches the door .
