Where to Stay in Singapore During Your Visit (Updated 2025)

"I would choose The Scarlet as a mid-range option in Chinatown for its preserved prewar shophouse setting and handy location, plus amenities like a rooftop restaurant, an outdoor hot tub, a gym, and laundry services." - Matthew Kepnes

Maintenance is nice but we had issues with our AC not cooling the upstairs bedrooms for months and nothing was done. We were told there were just issues with the ductwork and that they could not really do anything about it. The pool was almost never clean for the entire year I lived there, even though we had to continue paying monthly for that "amenity." I was charged for "cleaning fees" after move out despite the damages either being there before I moved in or "dirty spots on the wall" that were really just there due to improperly primed paint. Overall, living there was fine but I wouldn't recommend anyone live here for the price and what you'll actually be getting.

First of all, the positive reviews are only here because The Scarlet gives out incentives to people who leave 5-star reviews, so read these accordingly. I sincerely do not recommend The Scarlet. I am a TTU graduate student, and regrettably I lived here for two years. All I can say is that it's overpriced, discombobulated, and astonishingly unprofessional. The cherry on top that led to me writing this review was when they tried to kick tenants out of their units 3 weeks early to remodel the floors. Their lack of planning for future tenants should not constitute an emergency for their current tenants. They claimed we could move back in and only needed to be gone for a short period of time, but they wanted us to vacate (and effectively move out of) our units, with no regard for housing accommodations and placement of personal belongings or pets. It was only after persistent pestering did they finally stop and say they will wait until the lease is over to BEGIN RENOVATING for new tenants. Much more importantly, lack of safety was my biggest complaint while living at the Scarlet. The constant stream of third-party vendors entering units (with little to no warning) was irresponsible and unsafe, especially for young women. I’m vigilant and on the older side, but it's concerning how easily someone younger could be taken advantage of due to the careless way they handle access to our apartments. In the two years I lived there, vendors were frequently let into my unit without notice or any follow-up communication. Scarlet claims they “always give notice,” but in reality, they rarely do. If they do, it’s often an email sent after the fact. Once, I had a friend staying over. I left briefly to grab breakfast, and while I was gone, Scarlet let a vendor into my apartment, while my friend was in the shower. Also, as a dog owner, this reckless and frankly bizarre behavior gave me constant anxiety. If you have a dog or cat, I would especially recommend living elsewhere. If you’re looking for pre furnished student living, I had friends that loved living at the Grove; it has a bus straight to campus, and the 3 bed/3 bath units start at $399/person. The Scarlet is riddled with “landlord specials” and the 'included utilities' had a very low cap. Save your money and sanity and go somewhere that respects their tenants. I will say while management is genuinely atrocious, their actual maintenance team was very personable & kind and had absolutely no control over the unprofessional situations they were forced in. Shout out to Adam and Joe! They were lovely and the best part of living at the Scarlet.

I have been living at The Scarlet for 7 months so far, and I can say that it has been a great experience. From the day I moved in, the staff has been very welcoming and friendly. The leasing process was easy and the leasing staff was always available to answer any questions I had. They also hold plenty of events at the complex that help residents have a good relationship with the leasing staff. Maintenance has been very quick with any requests I have put in and the maintenance staff is also super kind. It's a great place to live for anybody looking for a nice community, staff members who care for you, and it is super close to Texas Tech!

Do not move here if you value a comfortable living experience. While living here I experienced a new maintenance issue every month. Management is extremely slow addressing issues and they are not helpful at providing service to accommodate. During the winter my unit had a leak and the management was so slow to provide any meaningful aid. They left this hole in the wall for roughly 3 weeks.

The lounge itself is beautiful, but the management leaves much to be desired. Staff often enter units without notice or knocking, showing little regard for residents’ privacy—even in sensitive situations. They have been known to threaten calling the police over simple visits or guests, and pet fees are excessively high. Unfortunately, interactions with management are often marked by unprofessionalism, even when approached respectfully.

Sadly, this is a photo of the pool at the apartment complex in Lubbock where my son lives. The AC has also been out for weeks in their unit. 😢

Not a good place to live! I am completely baffled that this apartment complex has such high reviews. I lived there for two years; the units are overpriced, there was paint everywhere when I moved in, the appliances were old and constantly breaking, and management treats the residents with no respect. In my personal experience, if management needs to do a routine condition check of your unit, and you are sleeping, they WILL come in anyway. I’ve attached some pictures of my unit’s condition when I moved in. The only pleasant things about the scarlet is it’s location to campus and the maintenance staff. I now live in a different apartment complex and it is so much better: I actually have privacy from management, my unit was clean upon move-in, and it is priced very appropriately. Please save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.

**UPDATED** My son has lived here going on 3 years this fall. I'm so happy he chose The Scarlet. They have earned this 5th star, they are first class!! ***So far, so good! Staff have been professional and patient in answering all of my questions during the last few months. My son visited the property in the spring with his roommates. I was very impressed at move-in the cleanliness of the apartment and the quick responses from maintenance. Living 9 hours away, I wasn't sure what to expect when we got there and this was a big relief for me, knowing my son has a decent and comfortable place to live while at College living on his own for the first time. Thank you all so much!
