After a disappointing stay at the Greenbrier hotel, The Schoolhouse Hotel was a breath of fresh air! I LOVED my stay here. I ended up staying an extra night because of a canceled flight, and I'm glad my stay was here instead of there.
The rooms are spacious enough for what you need. Comfortable bed, good/plentiful linens, hangers, and suitcase stands. The curtains and blackout shades are really nice. The smart toilet was *interesting* and the shower was really nice! One small thing I really appreciated was the soap. It was Zero% brand and has no additives, preservatives, parabens, etc. I appreciate the eco-friendly soap and it smelled great. Hotel soap is usually so nasty I never bother.
The food was SO much better than the Greenbrier and a far better value, too! The Brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had. The skirt steak was so good I had it twice. The drinks were creative and tasty. Breakfast had generous portions and good value. The bartenders and wait staff were friendly, prompt, thoughtful, checked in with me, and had good recommendations. Be sure to check out the rooftop for drinks and apps!
It's nice that this hotel is close to Main street. You can walk to a ton of places, even the Greenbrier. I ended up renting a mountain bike from Hammer Cycles down the street and enjoyed seeing the sights by bike.
If you're into bird watching, a creek runs close by and you can see plentiful goldfinches, thrushes, kingfishers, ducks, and many others.
They also have event space if you're looking to host a meeting or event! Check it out.
My only complaints:
1) I wish you had a shuttle service or local driver you could call! Transportation options in White Sulphur Springs are VERY limited. You can't count on rideshare and there's no taxi. The only car service I found started at $115, and I had to book it because there was literally nothing else.
2) The room doors are so new that they don't close automatically every time, I stayed in 2 different rooms and both had this issue. Just tell guests to make sure their door closes all the way when coming in and going out. I also wondered if the sliding barn doors would be too heavy for someone in a wheelchair to move?
