As a Cape Cod Native who grew up eating seafood shanty since the 90s as a kid, the food was decent but I was underwhelmed. The fish was very fresh, but the batter lacked overall flavor. I always order extra tartar and extra lemon. I was shocked to hear they don’t offer fresh lemons, but lemon juice in a packet which is not even comparable. It tasted like lemonade on the fish, without the fresh tangy kick that a lemon gives. Outside of cape cod this would be acceptable, but I feel that here, in a seasonal town that’s know for its fresh seafood, the toppings should be the same. It absolutely should be served with fresh squeezable lemons. I looked to the tartar sauce for that zing, but for my taste, it was entirely too sweet.
The customer behind us ordered a clam plate and sat down 10 mins after us. She took two bites and proceeded to throw the entire plate in the trash and leave.
The pros were fast service, fresh food, and shaded picnic tables. The price was very reasonable, but I have to say I would gladly pay prices comparable to the mid to outer cape to get fresh lemons, more fish and fries, and onion rings included.
