The Seafood Shanty

Can I be honest? The food is mid. Especially the lobster rolls. Don’t get me wrong, the views and the services are good, I expected more, especially being in the Vineyard. The lobster rolls drastically lacked butter and seasoning. This applies to all the other dishes we ate at this restaurant. I would never recommend this place for food but only for drinks and views. If you want a good view, come here. If you want a good meal go elsewhere.

I had the most incredible time at the Seafood Shanty. This was probably the best dining experience I’ve ever had in Martha’s Vineyard. The food was a delight, affordable, filling and fresh! Our hostess gave us the best seat in the house. The entire evening was so splendid and the best customer service helped make this unforgettable. Our server was Ethan and he was so professional, attentive and followed our food order to the tee. I am so impressed! Ethan you are a star!

Great place to relax and have some food by the sea. We had the fish sandwiches which were flaky and very tasty. Fries were awesome! Service was quick but our waiter was business like. Overall a positive experience.

Great views. Fast service. Good food. I only got raw clams and clam chowder but both were very tasty. Extremely busy. They have a raw bar and sushi and fried seafood and burgers. Everything looked delicious!

Our party of five was seated promptly and brought to the lower outside deck as requested. It was a great spot other than the fact that we were directly in front of the sliding doors which when left open created a wind tunnel that was uncomfortable-if it’s a windy day I would recommend a new seat. Was fun to watch the Chappy ferry bring cars back and forth! Our waitress made good recommendations-chicken burrito bowl was good -but on the smaller side if sharing with a larger party (everyone dove in before I could get a picture) the onion rings were a huge hit -thin and lightly battered and a good portion. I had spicy tuna maki which was very simple but good -usually a drizzle of something to pretty it up was missing-my father and nephew had burgers and fries which they were very happy with and said had a nice char-grilled taste and crisp fries. My mom and sister got the island chicken wrap which had what we believe was a mango mayo and they were huge fans of their wraps. To celebrate my parents anniversary we got a slice of key lime pie (dad’s fav) which was very good and a huge slice of chocolate cake which was devoured! Finished off with a very well made mudslide as well. Overall everyone was pleased but fell a bit lower than my expectations after reading the reviews.

Visited for late lunch on a nice Monday afternoon in April. We had the opportunity to sit outside and were kindly served by their awesome and attentive staff. There seemed to be a vast variety of menu options for everyone, no matter what someone had a taste for! I really enjoyed my swordfish sandwich and the very crispy fried! The pulled pork sandwich and fish tacos also seemed to be decent! Overall, a great stop that accommodated everyone’s preferences!

My drink was surprisingly very good! Somewhat thick and fruity but not too sweet. Some of the other drinks were just alright. My lobster roll was so big and full of lobster. Great service and a nice upstairs with a good view.

Best clam chowder on the island! We also had the 'best damn Bloody Mary evah'. Both were delicious! The service was excellent- considering the restaurant was packed. The views were wonderful. Highly recommend

The overarching theme of this restaurant is truly "mediocre". The lobster rolls lacked flavor and were not memorable, and the fish and chips included one piece of fish on top of a massive bed of fries. The fish tasted fine, but you might as well go somewhere else and get the same quality for a much better price. The side of coleslaw was a pitifully small size :(. Our server (Joe, I think?) was not super interested in making sure we enjoyed our visit, and I don't recall him smiling at us. Instead, I tried to bring up the energy and smile lots at our server! :) It's unfortunate that the gratuity was included at a fixed price for our party of 8, because the included 20% tip was on the post-tax(!) amount. Pretty wild. The waterside view was kind of nice, but I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere!

Excellent spot to have drinks and chat on a deck. The wait is never too long and the drinks are very good. The food - not so much. We started off with the clam chowder. Each person who ordered it ranked it a seven out of 10 or below with the majority being a sex. The clam chowder was way too thin, there was not enough seasoning, even in a lightly seasoned dish, the potatoes and clams were MI. Then again, my son who is sitting across from me and his girlfriend had all clams and potatoes. One of the few tricks in serving clam chowder is to stir it as your scooping. The lobster roll was very priced and had plenty of lobster meat. The problem was the lobster meat was flavorless. It had to have been previously frozen. Also not enough mayonnaise or celery. Then again some people would complain if there was too much mayonnaise or any celery. This is a very specific recipe that New Englanders are very fussy with. This was essentially a dry lobster roll = no mayonnaise no celery. California roll was also a flop according to the two of eight diners in our group who ordered it. There were no complaints about the hamburger or the chicken nuggets. All in all the view was great the food not so much. Hard pass for dinner or lunch. The appetizer menu was lacking. I recall being there and having appetizers and being happy but it seemed pretty slim today.

Fantastic location for outdoor dining in Edgartown. Menu is traditional seafood. We always come here for the lobster roll not to mention the fantastic view. Service is great as well.

I got the lobster roll, it was fine, not very good but nothing terrible. The fries that came with it were better than the sandwich. Our waiter took our order then disappeared for an hour. Someone else dropped our order and then we couldn't get anyone's attention for the entire time we were there. At least the view on the harbor was nice. A bit disappointed at the service especially spending over $40 on a lobster roll after tip and tax. (Honestly should not have tipped but the lowest option presented on the screen was 18% - and what am I gonna do? Click custom tip while the waiter is looking me in the eye over the little payment machine?) Would not come back here.

An average review (3.5) for an average dining experience. The lobster roll was a little disappointing after trying a few others on the vineyard. You do get a big portion of lobster meat but not enough butter (we had to ask for drawn butter on the side) plus the roll was not warm or toasted. The lobster dip appetizer was this meal's saving grace. Highly recommend trying this cheesy dip with big pieces of lobster meat and pita chips on the side.

This place was pretty nice. We got to go in right away because we wanted to sit in the rooftop deck area. The hostess upstairs gave us great seats. We had shade and an amazing view of the bay and all the boats. The day was incredible, sunny and breezy and it just added to the magic. The service was good. Our food arrived right away. The burger was delicious, it definitely hit the spot. I was feeling the magic of the scenery and the weather so I decided to order a beer. I'm from Miami and I could not recognize anything on the beer menu so I ended up ordering some pale ale and I didn't like it, it tasted a little bitter to me. Maybe they should consider getting Yuenglin, Stella Artois, maybe Michelob Ultra for those that are watching their figure. Just a thought . This place felt pretty special. I recommend coming here and going to the rooftop deck.

Didn't have much to eat here but they were accommodating to my service animal. We had the lobster quesadilla and the shrimp cocktail. Both were decent nothing to write home about. Service was efficient just note it's very busy for (July 4th weekend) just fyi

Nice little coastal restaurant in edgartown. I believe one of the very few waterfront options there. A nice deck and nice patio space. Fairly decent selection of menu items and drinks. The service staff including the hostesses were very kind and helpful. Good for groups of 4-12 people.

Our table over looking the water on a gorgeous sun-soaked day was enough to make this lunch a 5-star. I mean, I seriously could've sat there drinking all day. But that wouldn't have been fair. :-) Our server was lovely and attentive, checking on us frequently in spite of how crowded it was. My daughter's ocean berry cocktail was just okay. It kinda lacked the right punch of lemonade flavor. Luckily, I went with the sangria. Great, refreshing choice. My husband and I both ordered the fish & chips, also a great choice. A wonderful, flaky fish and chips meal. Substantial enough that we never needed dinner. The coleslaw wasn't great, but it also wasn't a big part of the meal. The views and good service more than overcame the slight imperfections on the one cocktail and the side coleslaw. Solid choice for your meal while in Edgartown!

Got the buffalo wings. Very good, nice and crispy, nice buffalo sauce and a solid blue cheese.

Lunch in Edgartown [Martha's Vineyard MA] Had lunch here, a casual restaurant in Edgartown at Martha's Vineyard. We sat on the outdoor upper deck overlooking the Edgartown Harbor. Great views and the weather was cooperative, even a little on the cool side. Hubby and I each had the New England clam chowder... deliciously flavorful, rich, smooth, and creamy. Lots of chopped clams. We then shared a Fish & Chips. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and flakey on the inside. Loved the fries too! The restaurant was busy but we were accommodated immediately at the height of lunch hour on a Monday. Atmosphere was a little noisy. Service was okay from our server, not really friendly, always seems rushing, but he was there checking on us every so often. He was nice enough to take our photo at our request. You aren't guaranteed good service when you go out these days. I'm so happy to report amazing, attentive service at Shanty!! I don't remember his name but thank you for a really nice night out :) I'll be back for more than just the burger!

Fish seemed freshly fried and everything else was good as weak. We stopped here for a quick lunch and were satisfied with our choices

Definition of a tourist trap. Lobster roll below average and the sandwich shop across the street is less expensive and better. But what was really ridiculous is I paid $4 to sub a Caesar salad for fries with my dried out Mahi sandwich. Tiny and awful. Service was good. That's about it

A great spot with a view of the ferry to Chappy and all the boats. Outside seating had some umbrellas, but due to their placement bring a hat to keep the sun off. It was a table for 1 situation and they were able to accommodate me at a nice little table outside. I had the perfect view great for boat and people watching. I decided on the fish and chips. The fish was super fresh and flavorful! The coleslaw was amazing. Ans tm request for extra tartar sauce was granted and I am so glad I did. It was definitely home made and some of the best I've tasted while here. Service was fast as my waitress let me know the kitchen had been getting food out really quickly. I waited no more than 5-7 minutes and was enjoying it all.

I am sad to say our latest visit to Seafood Shanty was a complete rip-off. We have been going to SS for years and usually have a great experience. When we found out that my son had an egg and dairy allergy, we were hesitant to visit last year, but they did a wonderful job accommodating his allergy. This year however we were told he would have to stick to the hot dog, no bun (totally fine) and couldn't have the fries b/c there was dairy in them (he had the fries last year but maybe they changed the brand?). Instead, they would SUBSTITUTE corn on the cob for the fries (awesome - he loves corn on the cob). The food came out - his sad little hot dog, no bun, thrown on a plate, and another plate holding his corn on the cob. He didn't care though, he's three. In my head I'm thinking "I can't believe we're paying $16 for this sad dog and corn" but whatever, it's vacation, right? The bill comes and we're charged $16 for his naked hot dog and $5 for his corn on the cob SUBSTITUTE! I asked the waitress, "hey I thought the corn was a sub, why were we charged $5?" thinking it was a mistake. Nope, it wasn't! "Oh we can't actually substitute, it has to be an add on." I'm sorry but $21 for a naked hot dog and one ear of corn?! RIP OFF.

Pretty overrated place, for the "best seafood and lobster roll in cape cod". Prices were high but not offensive, but the quality just wasn't there. The bread in the lobster roll was stale and not toasted. Lobster had no distinctive taste and therefore probably wasn't fresh. I'll probably remember this place for giving copious amounts of fries

The lobster roll that I had at Seafood Shanty was the best on my trip to Martha's Vineyard. It was delicious, and we'll be back.

Cannot beat the location. Had a nice outdoor table overlooking the water and chappaquiddick island. The food and service were great. Prices are on par with the area. Definitely recommend.

My favorite food on the island so far. The lobster dip was SO GOOD, I was a little hesitant because it's pricy but so worth it. Huge chunks of lobster in it and so cheesy. I got the sashimi salad for lunch, delicious fresh seafood, on the smaller side though. Probably would've ordered it with a side of rice next time. Delicious nonetheless. My friends got sandwiches and had good things to say. The oysters were also my favorite I've gotten here. Service was great. Also we asked for a table out on the balcony and were seated quickly and the view was perfect. Most memorable lunch so far and I keep coming back here every year.

Amazing views!! Been here both times we've gone to the island. The outside deck upstairs has a great view of the harbor and Chappaquiddick. Clam chowder and fish and chips are also great.

Amazing view and location. Overlooking Edgartown Harbor, the top deck is where you want to sit. We eat here more than I normally would because it is a great place to bring visitors. They have all the typical foods that Vineyard visitors want, like lobster rolls, clam chowder, oysters, etc. The food comes out fast! I'm not sure how they do it, but it all seems freshly made and the right temperature. Very impressive. As they claim, the lobster rolls have a LOT of lobster on them. But they aren't my favorite, flavor-wise. Still trying to find my "go-to." I do like the grilled fish tacos. Just wish they had a salsa that had more spice & punch. They have a mango salsa, and Tabasco sauce. Their fries are very good and my husband liked their burger. I like that you can generally can get a table without much of a wait, and there are a lot of them. It's a little difficult in the wind, however! Cocktails are very good. Try the Bloody Mary with 2 shrimp.

I was expecting worst based on the yelp reviews, but this place was fantastic. I'd normally give it 4 stars, but I'm going to round up to compensate for the current rating. We showed up for lunch, and they had plenty of outdoor dining upstairs available - great views and very enjoyable despite it being windy. W ordered oysters, lobsters and french fries -- all on point. They had a good selection of beer on draught, and the service was good. Prices seem high, but I think they're fair given the tourist factor and comparable to other local establishments. I'd come back here again if I was in Edgartown, and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good lunch with a great view.

I understand places are shutting down for the season but this place was recommended by our hotel, though the reviews said it wasn't great. This will be the only time I didn't listen to reviews. Service was ok. Food was overpriced for what it was. Lobster was old and cooked poorly. When we sent it back we were still charged for it. I don't know if it's because I'm from a state of great customer service but we thought it would have been taken off the bill-it wasn't. We asked and then I went to pay and the service looked down on me while I was tipping over what he should have gotten and then he snagged it out of my hand and left. Also should mentioned, pay $4.50 for one drink, no refill and no you can't put your leftover in a Togo cup. Just stay away and find a place with good reviews!

The rooftop view was great since it overlooks the water and if you can get a spot next to the water but be sure it's a table and not a bar top kind of table . The service was good. Our water was extremely busy but he was sweet . The food itself was ok . It looks like a lot of lobster at first but that's because it's sitting on a hunch of lettuce at the bottom. The lobster itself wasn't very seasoned and the bread was good but not toasted enough. I would say this place is good for the atmosphere and view but the food is alright

Total tourist trap. Service was not good, for us at least. When a big group of us walked in at the END OF THEIR HIGH SEASON in October the man who did the seating arrangements constantly complained about having to seat so many at once. To put this in perspective, we were not all together. We were about 1/3 of a bus totaling maybe 15 people who needed to be seated in different increments. For example, there were three couples, maybe one double and 1 or 2 four tops. And we had 2 hrs to kill in bad weather so we told the man to not stress. He seated my SO and I but we waited 15 minutes for menus. The server came and asked what we wanted. " Menu's please" was our reply. So 3 mins later we got them and waited another 15 for her to return. When I ordered the oysters, I was told they were out of them. 10 minutes later she came back and told me that they had them. I thought the price was incredibly expensive, even for a tourist town. I've grown up going all over the Jersey shore( tourists galore!) and I've never seen oysters this expensive. We were literally at a dock where they come in and they wound up being $40 for 12. Ending on a positive note: The view was nice.

Wow this place was a nice gem to find. The ambiance on the rooftop patio was amazing with views of the water and still nicely shaded with the umbrellas. The service was great even with them being pretty busy during our arrival. The staff was attentive and helpful with any questions we had. The food was the showstopper. We had the warm lobster roll and the clam chowder and both were delicious (sorry forgot to take photos until it was gone). Can not wait until I am back in Massachusetts to go back!

Server Francesca was friendly and helpful and gets 5 stars. Thoughtfully giving suggestions. Appearing just before we knew we needed something. I had the painkiller which was exactly what I needed. The oysters and clams were fantastic and they were not sandy. Freshest tuna roll I've ever had. The fish sandwich is where they fell short. Halibut was fresh but the coating lacked flavor. Changing up sides was not an issue and was recommended by our fabulous server Francesca. Go for the view, drinks and service.

Group of 6 got seated pretty quickly on the rooftop deck--sunny with beautiful views. I was a little leery because some of the reviews kind of indicated you go there for the views and atmosphere but the food was mid... I ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and let me tell you--it was EVERYTHING! Others in my party had salmon burgers, salads, and everyone was very pleased with their food.

Service just ok. The food was terrible Clam Fritters.....burnt and no taste Lobster quesadillas....lobster tasted like it had sat in a refrigerator for about a week..dry and tasteless Seafood platter... it came out with the appetizers and no room on the table. Reserved it after heating up in a microwave.. do you know what fried food tastes like nuked.? 50 % overcooked onion rings and fries. Clams tasted funky, shrimp and scallops absolutely no taste, fish filet refried to the point of oblivion until microwaved and turned into a soggy mess. We were asked if we wanted to box it up but we left too much to carry....because it was awful. Left and went to local ice cream shop to fill up......

This restaurant is right on the waterfront. Can't beat the view and the fresh seafood. Service is on point and the wait time was very reasonable between courses. Would come back again if we travel to Edgartown. We rode from Oak bluffs to Edgar town on rental bikes so it was worth the bike ride to explore this part of Edgar town and end up here at Seafood Shanty's. Bonus point: Espresso martini was also very good with the baileys cream. 8.5/10 rating. Very pleased with our experience here!!

Went with 2 others on a beautiful Friday afternoon for lunch. We got there just after 1 and there was a line to get a table. We clocked that there was a different host stand for upstairs, so ended up going there. We were lucky enough to get an outside table only 1 "row" away from the glass and beautiful view (without a wait!). There were umbrella'd tables, so it was very comfortable and shady. The service was quick and efficient even though the place was packed just after 1 PM on a sunny day. For food, 2 of us got the hot buttered lobster roll and it was to die for! A great amount of sweet, buttered lobster meat and tasty, crisp french fries. The bf ordered the fish tacos and those were also amazing! The fish was flaky and fresh and there was an unexpected flash of spice. I also enjoyed a glass of wine and a gin martini. Why not? Everything was top notch. I would definitely come back!

If you want food with a view, this is definitely the place. The view is nice. Food is mediocre. TikTok hyped this place up for sure! The scallops were a big too soggy for my liking. I think I've had better scallops in Newport, Rhode Island! I really wanted to like this place because all the videos on TikTok have so many good things to say but it was alright to say the least...maybe because we went on the very last day of the season but maybe we'll give it another try one day.

So this roof top dining over looks the Marina in Edgartown and the views are everything. Great casual atmosphere for hanging out. I ordered the cold lobster roll and my friend had the warm, both were delicious! The cold roll looked considerably larger than the warm. We brought it to our servers attention and she fixed it. Fries were extra good and crispy. They appeared to have a coating on them. Cole slaw was good too. We ordered drinks and they were just OK.. expresso martini was too sweet. She had two orders of rum punch. One was better then the other. I will definitely recommend this spot !

ALMOST CRIED because the sushi was so delicious!! I love food, especially sushi and this sushi was top 3 best sushi for me! I ordered the pink panther with substitute nori, and then some eel nigiri and I think those are going to me my go-tos now. The eel sent me a shockwave of flavor, and the eel was just so tender and well cut. Moreover, I could taste every ingredient within the sushi and their flavors danced in harmony among my tongue. The sushi was so good that pairing it with wasabi, ginger, or soy sauce would take away from its wonderful flavor. The Caesar salad was nice, but the croutons weren't very good. The service was mediocre, nothing bad or especially good. Just ehh. There was a beautiful ocean view sitting outside and cute decor. Despite the low reviews, I was impressed by the sushi, so I recommend :)

We had the freshest seafood here! The fish and chips, lobster roll and steamed lobster were delish. Our waitress was very helpful with the drink choices. I highly recommend it.

The food is basic New England seafood in a wonderfully pleasant setting. The rooftop restaurants have an unmarried view of Edgartown harbor. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Tip: if you're getting off the ferry hustle or you'll be dealing with other ferry passengers competing for tables.

We were a little hesitant with this being in the skin strip with a view that it might be a tourist trap but we got in right away and were out of there within an hour so we could carry on with our day of exploring. Staff was super attentive, quick, and friendly. I got the chicken avocado wrap and it was a pleasant surprise. Filing and just the right amount. Someone else at our table got clam chowder and fish tacos and they said it was some of the better ones they have had of each while on our vacation to the cape! Kudos for being on top of it and a restaurant with a view!

Came back and the spot has cleaned up a lot - bathrooms are now spotless and very nice. Service is impeccable and everyone was very friendly and attentive. Food was still a bit of a variety as was last time. Raw oysters were great but the fish sandwich was quite mediocre. Lobster quesadilla was great. Much better experience than last time and would probably come back for a snack.

Nice place with a very nice ocean view. This place offer a decent size rooftop that overlook the water. It is fully staffed with good experience people to help their customers. The drinks were just ok but not horrible. The lobster roll was a little too dry for us but the clam belly plate was amazing!

We have eaten here several times. Give the average food grade a B +. Have had some decent meals and some blahh meals. Excellent fried food and lobster rolls. The baked dishes are small and lack flavor. For service it is variable. The more mature servers are great, attentive and engaging. The younger servers are less attentive. Maybe the difference between summer help and full time servers. Atmosphere is good assuming you get a seat near the windows with a view of the harbor.

On our annual trip to the Vineyard we rent a car & stop in Edgartown to have lunch at the Seafood Shanty. The food is excellent & fish very fresh Service is outstanding & we love sitting by the water

Amazing service and food! I miss the fried clam strips here! Everything was delicious! We had the lobster rolls, fried clam strips & oysters! One of our best meals on Cape Cod! Did I mention service was 5 stars! Such friendly and nice people! We will definitely come back!

Food is pretty good and service is great. Plus the view is amazing! Had the sea bass and my husband had fish & chips and both. We both enjoyed it. Very much kid friendly!
