My dad was dying for some seafood during our family vacation to Hawaii and we ended up at this restaurant for dinner on our last night. The restaurant itself is casual, yet elevated, but I found the space to be a bit dingy-feeling at night, especially since the string lights in the room we were in were not working. That being said, the food was excellent! My dad said it was his favorite meal of the trip! We ordered lilikoi margaritas, the oysters (and as people from Maryland, we know ALL about good oysters), Manila clams, Chinese style fish, volcano shrimp roll, prime rib, and vegetarian pasta. Very interesting and unique takes on some classic recipes. It’s a shame we were too full for dessert!

Google
We found the Seaside Restaurant just outside Hilo whose family has been serving the community since the 1920s. Their dining rooms overlook very large fishponds - in addition to a restaurant they are an aqua farm. We enjoyed a delicious pair of cocktails (Pina Colada and a Blue Wave) followed by salad (Seaside Greens) and the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi-Mahi. It is served with a Wasabi Cream and Sweet Chili sauce that was delicious. A great night out!

Seafood is always done right! The host was really nice he told us the daily specials and some recommendations. We ordered the poke nachos and shrimp dynamite roll for starters and the blackened ahi and the New York steak & lobster for dinner. Everything tasted delicious and was cooked to perfection. It did take quite a while for our order to come out and it was a bit loud making it hard to converse. The restaurant is a bit dated but the view of the pond makes up for it.

I’ve been going to Seaside for special occasions for about as long as I can remember. And I’ve never been disappointed in any way. From the atmosphere to the views, the always friendly staff and don’t get me started on the food! The fried Aholehole is my personal favorite with butter noodles. But I’m a known plate pirate and my fork will attack. I’ve had a bite or two of just about everything on their menu over the years and can say you’d be safe just asking the server to bring you their favorite and sit back and wait for the surprise! Forever Seaside loyal!

Google
This place far exceeded my expectations! I had the fresh catch of grilled ono, and it was perfectly salted and flaky! I also tried a bit of the ahi poke, aholehole, mahi mahi, and steamed fish— it was all great! Loved how much choice there was on the menu, and the service was friendly and fast :)

Google
This popular local restaurant is worth considering for dinner, but ensure they have an available table or make a reservation in advance. Despite high expectations from reviews, our dining experience wasn't particularly special. Waiting over 50 minutes for our sushi roll and a mix-up in cooking the fish extended our wait time to over an hour. The Spicy Ahi Bombs were flavorful, the Seaside Roll was okay but had a specific taste we didn't favor, and the Fresh Catch of the day (Ono with linguine) was well-cooked but lacked a distinctive flair.

My husband took me here for my birthday in June. The food was delicious! We had Mahi Mahi and Poke nachos. Excellent service!

Delicious food and great service. Beautiful views, too!

Yelp
Great food, excellent service. Best place to get lamb chops. Always our go to restaurant to celebrate.

Yelp
Not good. Had a reservation for 7pm and got seated at 7:30 up, but actual entrées were be delivered in an hour later I said no way who restaurant like this anyway it's ridiculous.

Yelp
On our last trip to Hilo I wanted a restaurant that had a waterside dining and a menu with choices that had local flavor. We found this restaurant just outside Hilo whose family has been serving the community since the 1920s. Their dining rooms overlook very large fishponds - in addition to a restaurant they are an aquafarm. We enjoyed a delicious pair of cocktails (Pina Colada and a Blue Wave) followed by salad and Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi-Mahi. The Mahi was served with a Wasabi cream sauce that was delicious! A great night out. It's just 4 miles south of downtown Hilo across from Carlsmith Beach Park.

Yelp
While visiting Hilo for the day we decided to try The Seaside. They have limited hours. We got there right as they opened and were able to get a table and be seated right away. I do suggest you make reservations, because the restaurant did get pretty busy afterwards. The service was amazing. Our server explained the specials and checked on us often. We had the clam chowder, which was the soup of the day. It was delicious. I had the ahi mahi and my boyfriend had the Chinese style steamed fish. Although both were good, I think the Chinese style steamed fish was better. I got mashed potatoes with my fish, which I did not really enough. My boyfriend choose the pasta, which was really good. We both enjoyed the experience and would recommend this restaurant if you're visiting Hilo.

Jon O.

Yelp
Still the best seafood in Hilo! The Chinese style steamed fish is still my wife's favorite, this time was with opakapaka and she said it almost brought tears to her eyes it was so good! I had the bacon wrapped scallops which were seared perfectly and I had rice instead of noodles. My daughter had the ahi poke nachos and I think there was more delicious ahi than there was nachos which never happens! To finish off we had a walnut brownie with ice cream, and it was the perfect way to end a great meal. Parking is still a pain in their small lot, but food cannot be beat!

Kepa C.

Yelp
I went back, got the same thing, and it was much improved! Glad I decided to give them another chance.

Noelani K.

Yelp
Food was ok but waitress wasn't checking on our table for sometime. I mean understand it was a busy night. But she waited on other tables with more respect being there were regulars. But that's how you'll lose potential returning customers.

Britney T.

Yelp
Seaside restaurant was recommended by a friend and I couldn't have been more happy. There are a few things that could use improvement, such as the escargot. It was overpowered with cheese and it could have used more butter and garlic, but still delicious. We ordered the shishito peppers and it came with more than we expected. So i would recommend to share. My husband loved his prime rib. He ordered medium rare and did a great job with the temperature. I got the Mac but crusted ahi and loved the sauce that came with it. Our server was so sweet and everyone was wonderful

Yelp
Chose the Seaside for our first night in Hilo because it was within walking distance of our accommodations. First off, we had incredible service from Genoa. We had a reservation for eight and were seated in the lower room. This was not ideal as it is a small room and there was no airflow so it was quite hot and stuffy. There was only one other table of two, and then a second large party. That table (thankfully) was unsat for most of our visit, but when they arrived it was suddenly incredibly loud in the tiny room. Overall food was decent. The fresh catch and volcano shrimp were both good. The blackened ahi tuna was fantastic. The New York strip rather pedestrian and unseasoned. Drinks were standard. All in all, just didn't feel the quality of the entrees equaled the price. Our bill came to $400+ and two of our eight were kids who split one keiki meal.

Robin S.

Yelp
Love this place...local, on the water(pond is gorgeous), nice servers. Lighting is horrible. Food is pretty consistent. I usually have aholehole(extra crispy).

Brandy T.

Yelp
Went here yesterday on a whim for my birthday. Didn't have a reservation. The host seemed annoyed that we didn't have a reservation but we arrived at 5 and there was only 3 other groups in the restaurant. We got seated in the back of the seating area by the door that connect the dining room from the bar. Not sure why they wouldn't want to sit us by the water front windows but they didn't . Our server an older gentlemen was very good and he's the only reason I'm not giving 2 stars. Food wasn't warm and the bacon wrapped scallops overcooked and dry. My husband's prime rib cold. The Kona coffee mud cake delicious. For a place that calls themselves fine dining restaurant I expect better and for the price in my opinion not worth it.

Yelp
BIG ISLAND HAWAII 2023 VACATION #6: A FISH DISH THAT REMINDED ME OF A CHICKEN DISH My favorite chicken dish is Hainan chicken or bi qie ji (white cut chicken in Cantonese) because of the combination of the ginger, scallion, oil, and poached chicken. It's a dish that has simple ingredients but when combined together is packed with flavors. I was first introduced to The Seaside Restaurant when I saw Andrew Zimmern's "Delicious Destinations" episode of the Big Island. Due to the episode I wanted to order the opakapaka, which is Hawaiian pink snapper. What really intrigued me to that episode was the method displayed on TV - the first was steamed then doused with hot oil. After seeing the waterfalls - Akaka, Kahuna, and Wai'ale - I came here for dinner, which I had made a reservation prior to leaving for Hawaii. I arrived early around 4:15 PM, but my reservation was at 5:30 PM. I checked in at 4:45 PM. When I placed my order for the Chinese-style steamed fish my server informed me that the opakapaka wasn't available but kampachi. Even though I wanted to try the opakapaka I was willing to try the other fish. I love mushrooms. My server recommended Hamakua mushrooms. I never had this kind of mushrooms so I ordered them. These mushrooms are one of the cleanest I've tasted yet still have the umami taste. Sometimes certain mushrooms can taste too earthy, but not these Hamakua mushrooms. When I planned my Hawaii vacation in February I was looking forward for the Chinese-style steamed fish. With a smell of the ginger and one bite the dish reminded me of Hainan chicken especially as steamed rice is served. Since the fish is steamed not boiled there is a meaty texture. The oil presents a silky taste to the meat. Due to the oil, ginger, and scallion I thought I was eating Hainan chicken. I took my time eating this dish to enjoy. The Chinese-style steamed fish I ate at The Seaside Restaurant could be one of my top ten favorite fish dishes. I don't consider myself as someone who loves to eat fish. After eating the two dishes I was full and didn't order dessert. Even though I only ordered two items I was impressed hence the rating, which was mostly due to the Chinese-style steamed fish, I gave The Seaside Restaurant.

Yelp
I had a very satisfying and delicious meal at this restaurant! I wasn't feeling in the mood for a heavy meal so I opted for ordering two appetizers as my entree. When I asked, the waitress said this was alright so I got the ahi poke nachos and the edamame appetizers. First, I very much enjoyed the nachos. The fish tasted very fresh and didn't have the toughness I sometimes encounter in poke. The chips stayed crisp to the last bite despite being covered in a thick sweet chili sauce so the texture was consistent throughout my meal. My only complaint might be that I wish there was also an acidic crispness, like a pickled onion or something, as a topping. The nachos are topped with sprouts, avocado, and onion, however I felt that there wasn't enough to contrast some of the heaviness from the fish and sauce. The nachos were still very solid though and I'd definitely order them again. Second, I also liked the edamame. They were cooked to the perfect texture in my opinion. My issue with them was that they tasted a bit heavily salted. This could be something most people enjoy, but for me the grainy texture from the sea salt and strong salty flavor on the outside distracted from the flavor of the edamame itself. However, the salt did make the edamame extremely flavorful so perhaps that was the intention. The ambiance of this restaurant feels very nice, and the staff members are friendly. The windows look out onto a body of water and I enjoyed watching the birds flying home for the night and the koi fish swimming right below the window.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and casual atmosphere, the Seaside Restaurant has been around for decades in Hilo as the place for beautifully prepared seafood, as well as beef, pastas and ribs. The steamed Chinese fish (three amberjack filets) was memorable for the infused flavors of ginger and light green onions. The grilled ono was perfectly cooked too. Our server was especially nice and managed everything we ordered to arrive hot and promptly. Easily the best seafood restaurant in town.

Shinanagins O.

Yelp
Great local spot with a view. One of the few restaurants that still serves up, whole locally caught fish. Decent wine selection, and good desserts too. Service can be a little slow if it's busy, so just plan for that.

Les U.

Yelp
Slight pricey but worth every penny. We went early and it was already crowded, on a rainy week night. That says a lot. The food was great. Whiskey/Scotch-aholics, they have quite a selection. The most expensive item was just shy of $400 for a shot. No, I didn't try it (Macallan 25). I originally wanted to try the fried Aholehole but it was priced at $34 for approximately 14 oz. Just couldn't justify paying that much for something I could easily catch. However, the next table had an order and as it was being served, I caught a whiff. I'll get it next time. It always tastes better when someone else cooks it. BTW, our miso butterfish and macnut crusted mahimahi were both ono

Liliya Z.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food, even kids ate everything with such appetites. We loved the fried fish and the sushi was great. We also had calamari for appetizer. It's right near the Richardson beach which had nice soft black sand. The water was warm to swim but in some places there were many rocks. This place doesn't open for breakfast but for lunch or dinner just the Perfect location

Hilo G.

Yelp
The food was so delicious and fresh. I don't know where else that serves fried fish. The service was fast and good. Our server often checked on us to see if we need anything else. We got to sit next to the window with a beautiful view of the pond. Even the price is very reasonable for fine dining. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Seafood is always done right! The host was really nice he told us the daily specials and some recommendations. We ordered the poke nachos and shrimp dynamite roll for starters and the blackened ahi and the New York steak & lobster for dinner. Everything tasted delicious and was cooked to perfection. It did take quite a while for our order to come out and it was a bit loud making it hard to converse. The restaurant is a bit dated but the view of the pond makes up for it.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here last night. Food was wonderful but the service was outstanding. Cocktails and appy arrived in a flash. The Poke Nachos are a must. I had the daily catch with some pasta which was really good. They even brought a couple extra side sauces, pesto and butter sauce just to kick it up a notch. My wife that the blackened tuna salad which is huge! Next time we'll split that salad and an order of the nachos.

Patrick P.

Yelp
Late post! This restaurant ranks among our favorites of all time. It was a wonderful experience. Posh and elegance without the tie and coat. The food was fantastic and more importantly, incomparable to anything else. It's unique, with own spin.

Yelp
Made a 6pm reservation and folks who have a 6:30 pm as a couple are going in ahead of us....Auwe!

Yelp
If you haven't been to...THE SEASIDE RESTAURANT and AQUA FARM, then you are have been missing out! Go on...make your reservations now! Trust me...you'll be happy you did! This place is...HILO! Talk to any local from this island, talk to any local from the neighbor islands, talk to any tourist from across the seas...they know...SEASIDE. Seaside has that reputation. TSRAF is family-owned and they have been serving the Hilo community for many generations...so you know that they pump out AMAZING food, not to mention YUMMY-licious cocktails, too! TSAF is beautifully located on the family's aqua farm about 15 minutes away from town. The restaurant is surrounded by glass windows and picturesque views of the water and greenery. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. Dining on scrumptious food and sipping on delicious cocktails is my kinda' dining while enjoying the view! TSAF has a very special place in my heart because it always brings my family together. We've celebrated birthdays, special occasions and a wedding, too! Thank you TSAF for helping my family create many momentous celebrations here! Here is my recent tasting: COCKTAIL: - LILIKOI DROP: very refreshing, delicious, tart and a kick! I took my time enjoying every little sip that ended with a kiss of li- hing mui! Muwah! APPETIZERS: -POKE NACHOS: yummy! The perfect bite to the start of our dining experience! A crispy fried won ton chip topped with ahi poke drizzled with a sweet chili sauce covered with slivers of nori and beautiful purple stemmed radish sprouts! -CALAMARI: scrumptious! generous portion, large pieces of tender calamari deep fried to perfection! Everyone enjoyed this dish! -SPICY AHI SUSHI ROLL: delicious! It was a popular one amongst the family. -SHRIMP DYNAMITE SUSHI ROLL: oishi! Beautifully plated and well executed! My favorite sushi here! ENTREE- FURIKAKI SALMON: magnificent! 2 generous portion salmon filets seasoned well and covered in a confetti of furikaki! My plate came with mashed potatoes, sautéed zucchini and yellow squash! Everything plated was delivered to perfection! I recommend this dish! DESSERT: -BREAD PUDDING and VANILLA ICE CREAM: unforgettable and EPIC! I am already...DROOLING! I loved everything about this dessert. It came to the table nice and...HOT and it paired nicely with the COOLNESS of the ice cream. This bread pudding is special and not like others. In between the pillowy bread layers, there are morsels of fresh taro and sweet potato.Unique and delicious! Over the top, was a generous amount of warm haupia sauce and a caramel drizzle. So, if you are in Hilo, you MUST visit TSAF for an unforgettable dining experience. You'll thank me for that!

Yelp
This restaurant was great on previous our visit to hilo. So my wife's cousin who lives in Hilo made reservations for a party of seven. When we checked in they said it would a few minutes. Our reservation was for seven o'clock. Since the restaurant closes at 8 o'clock we asked if they we going to kick us out at eight. She responded that those seated before eight didn't have to worry. Jokingly my wife's cousin asked if they we gonna run out of food. The hostess replied we didn't have to worry. While placing or order we we're told that the clam chowder was not available. I ordered the the lamb chops. A few minutes later the server informed me that the ran out of the chops. So I ordered the snow crab. My niece also ordered the snow crab. Her potion was larger than mine. Humm. In all the food was enjoyed by all. And they do have a blender so I was able to order a Lava Flow. Enjoy.

Meagan M.

Yelp
My favorite fine dinning restaurant. Awesome delicious food. Great service. Never had a complaint yet :). Nicely spaced tables so you don't feel like you're in the lap of the next table.

Guy K.

Yelp
Our party of four dined here December 13, 2024. The best thing this restaurant offers is its location. It lacks ambience due to overcrowding the dining area with cafeteria style table arrangements. The Chinese steamed fish fillet and the grilled salmon were ordinary. The prime rib was not rare as requested and the braised short ribs were salty. The experience did not justify the expense.

Chelsea O.

Yelp
This place is so yummy. Located across from the beach on a beautiful pond and when the sunsets it's a beautiful view. Had the sashimi appetizer, fried mushrooms and shishito peppers. My friends and I were full but we were gonna stop. I got the ono fresh catch sautéed in pesto sauce. Mmhmm the sauce was so yummy and the mashed potatoes were delicious. Absolutely recommend so good!

Ruth D.

Yelp
While visiting Hilo, my colleagues and I had dinner here at the suggestion of a local friend. For all that my friend said to expect it would be packed, the hostess sat us quickly at a table. We were hungry and that's a good thing because there were several things we wanted to sample from the menu. We shared sushi plates and an order of kanpachi. It is a very tasty fish and I hope it becomes better recognized!

Cathy F.

Yelp
The food is incredible here. My fiancé had fish which he raved about the whole evening. I had prime rib and had to take half of it home! Great service too, we will definitely be back.

Sleepy S.

Yelp
Good looks great. However my wait took longer than expected. Everyone at my table got their plates before me. Was it because I was the only one who ordered fish. Idk. But other than that, the service still seems nice about it, and apologized for the wait. The ambiance was also nice that time we went because we had the view of the pond, a great view. I would come back, but maybe more for the drinks also, and just have my meal to go instead. Ps. Bread pudding was the best part.

Nick H.

Yelp
Best bar in Hilo after the recent upgrades! Great place to come for cocktails and appetizers!

Brooke V.

Yelp
Friends told us this place had the goods and it definitely did!!! T bone steak - 10/10!! Juicey, flavorful, yummy sides New York steak - 7/10 not as juicey but still delicious. Nice texture. Mushrooms and onions were flavored and cooked to perfection Miso butterfish - 10/10 amazing. Flavors were perfect, fish was crispy not too oily and soft like butter Bread pudding 10/10 - the salty/ sweet combo was perfect and the textures were between gooey and crunchy. Kona mud pie - 8/10 I'm from kona so maybe I'm biased when I say I prefer kona mud pies better . Smaller than I'm used to but still tasted good. Recommend this spot on the water. Lovely view, friendly staff. Only one bathroom. We arrived when it first opened and when we left the parking lot was packed! Must be a local fav :)

Tiger F.

Yelp
Food was very good overall, all our selections were prepared very well. Hostess and bar tender was excellent. Service started out great but became rushed as the meal progressed. Our servers area got busier for sure. She was doing the best she could with what she had to work with. We actually loved it here and will definitely be back.

Beau T.

Yelp
Good seafood and great location near the ocean. Unfortunately, no mullet on the menu now. Bring lots of $$$$! Regards Beau Toichi

Shauna T.

Yelp
Everything was great, food, service & ambiance. We got a table overlooking the water, had a great view and a nice birthday celebration. Mahalo!

Changhao L.

Yelp
The way they cook Mahi Mahi makes the dish flavor-less and it is simply a waste of good ingredient. Linguine is dry. Sand is still contained in the clam. This is an overrated and overpriced place. Don't recommend.

Landon K.

Yelp
Been coming here for years with my family for dinners and special occasions. The food here has always been good and got to enjoy the view over looking the pond. It definitely takes you away from the "Hilo" central vibes! The staff has always been great and we always leave full and with our palates happy. I recommend for appetizers- the escargot, calamari, and steamed clams. Start with these and you won't go wrong. My fam enjoys the lamb (when available) and I usually order some type of steamed fish dish depending on what we are craving. Atmosphere is mellow but with a little bit of a "boujee" feel. Will always come back here. Check them out if you're in Hilo.

Robert S.

Yelp
My favorite seafood place the ambience is amazing. The service is always friendly and courteous.

Brandon K.

Yelp
This was a great find. Pretty crowded, I suggest coming early to get parking even if you have reservations. It's a popular place for dinner. If not you parking at the nearby park and it could get sketchy late at night. The food was super "Ono!" I had the deep fried Aholehole highly recommend. I was expecting maybe 2 , but I ended up with 3 whole fish. Would definitely come back again.

Lisa I.

Yelp
Best restaurant to enjoy Chinese style steam fish! Tonight it is onaga!! Yum! We started our meal with a ahi like nacho appetizer and then I enjoyed the steam fish! Onolicious! Can't go wrong! Will be back again soon!

Kopa N.

Yelp
Delicious food as always. We had an excellent work sponsored dinner to celebrate heading into the end of the year. The service was excellent. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The ambiance was nice and pleasant! 10/10 would recommend for any occasion.

Sadie N.

Yelp
The food was fresh, the view was nice but also nothing too exciting. It was a good time to walk around the property and see different birds, fish, etc existing in their ponds. The best thing ever, that really just blew us away was the Kona mud pie. This was delicious, would go back just to eat it again.

Dana D.

Yelp
We've been going to the Seaside for over 30 years it was my mom's favorite place to eat, and it used to be good. We went for the first time since Covid to celebrate a birthday and was it ever disappointing. It was pretty expensive and the food was marginal at best, for what they were asking it should've been much better than it was. My wife ordered the Opakapaka for $45 and it was a skimpy end piece, way overcooked and dry. The skin wouldn't even come off. For three people the tab came to $250. and that was with only 2 drinks and an iced tea. Needless to say we won't be going back anytime soon, Hilo has better to offer.

Christy K.

Yelp
Great service and loved the view in the restaurant. The restaurant itself smelled kinda funky, like maybe they need to remove the carpet or something.. but the food was delish, I would definitely recommend the braised ribs with potatoes. The soup of the day was the Manhattan chowder, it was Luke warm and more of a tomato dipping sauce for the bread roll, I wouldn't order again.

Kendra B.

Yelp
One of the best meals I had on the big Island. Fish is all very fresh and everything we had was absolutely delicious. We were seated with a view of their pond in a quieter area which was lovely. The service was also superb.

Craig T.

Yelp
Had dinner w/my cousin in Hilo at this Seaside restaurant. Near the airport area had to go through like a industrial area. Never thought a seafood restaurant located there. Nice small restaurant surrounded by a man made pond also across the street from the ocean . I had their Bacon wrap scallops over a bed of linguine noodles. My brother-in-law and sister shared their Prime Rib, my cousin had their Chirashi bowl. We all shared the Calamari. Everything was good except the Prime Rib . My sister said the Prime Rib was soaked in the Ai jus sauce already. She rather have it separate with horseradish on the side. Overall it was a nice dining atmosphere and the customer service was excellent. I recommend making reservations because tables are limited also due to Covid19 still their hours is only for dinner at from 4pm - 8pm. Yes I know closes early and everyone knows Everyplace in Hilo closes early lol!

Yelp
Well I wasn't going to write this and decided to explain the problem with the server but she did nothing to resolve any issues and said that we were the last table and end of the night so nothing she could do about the terrible food. But it was her service that was the worst. So we arrived around 7:20 and the hostess sat us the room wasn't full. The server took nearly 15 mins before any eye contact from any staff. Server comes over and takes our order quickly, the sashimi came out first which was really good but served on a hot plate. At the same time a Hendricks and tonic came out when my other half ordered a Hendricks Negroni. So the bartender made the right cocktail and dropped it off. Thirty mins later the server came to check on us and then I reminded her of my soup, she went to the back and then came back and said "I didn't hear you order it do you want a soup?"I said yes and she went back to get the soup. We ordered a cab which tasted old, nearly turned. The prime rib came out cold and well done but we ordered a rare. We were distracted with the server spilling half the jus on my other half and didn't mention the cook temp of the prime. The pasta was warm to cold temp. And the $39 side lobster tail was lack luster. A waste of money and my patience. We were the last table there and not because we were hanging out but because all employees ignored us and continued their side work spraying tables right next to us but no eye contact at all. When the server finally came back I asked her if I could tell her my concerns and she said "it's the end of the night and that's the last cut of meat they had" I told her if it's not what we ordered don't serve it. We didn't want well done. When I told her the food was all cold she just said sorry. Then sent someone else to drop off the bill. Which they didn't take anything off. I didn't see a manager around so hopefully they see this and make changes. Locals and industry people shouldn't be treated like this. I recommend tourists and locals to restaurants all day at my job. Seaside will not be on the list of places to dine.

Sydni K.

Yelp
There is a reason why Seaside is a popular restaurant in Hilo. Service was friendly and food was delicious! If you get lucky, you'll get to sit next to the window with a beautiful view of the pond. We ordered a bunch of different dishes. Ahi poke nachos - The nachos were super delicious. I loved that they were on crispy won ton chips. The pieces of fish were cut up small and had lots of seasoning and toppings. The perfect appetizer. Chinese style steamed fish - The day that I went to dinner here, they were serving red snapper. This was my first time trying Chinese style steamed fish, and it was delicious. It's a lot of work to get the edible parts, but the fish is super soft. Grilled salmon - I was debating between their salmon dishes, but the waiter suggested the grilled salmon because of the Hamakua mushroom sauce. The sauce was absolutely delicious! It was creamy and garlic-y. I just wish it had more mushrooms and sauce. The salmon itself was nothing special and more on the dry side, but the sauce made up for it. It also came with garlic noodles. Bread pudding - I was so full from my actual dinner, but I could not leave without the bread pudding. This was definitely the best bread pudding I've ever had. They use sweet potato and taro sweet bread instead of the regular flavor, which made the dessert 10x better. It was also covered in a delicious haupia sauce.

We had dinner a couple of nights ago at this lovely restaurant. The setting is beautiful, on ponds, with hundreds of birds flying by. The service was excellent. Our server explained things on the menu, checked back when we had our food, got us whatever we needed. It's also nice to see the whole staff works together to insure guest's needs are met. And the food was wonderful. My husband had ono and I had teriyaki chicken, which had plenty of sauce. Wish we could go back more often, but we will whenever in Hilo!
