The Seles Boutique Hotel

Stay next door at the Zanzibar Pearl bit more expensive, but worth it to relax and feel clean. Seles was the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Ants infestations everywhere - rooms, restaurant etc. We felt like our feet were filthy just walking to the bathroom in our room. We wanted a relaxing stay, but the sound of the loud trees on the front ruined that, on top of which there were no sun loungers by the pool. Poached eggs for breakfast were gross. Good thought behind evening entertainment, but ruined by the fact it didn’t match the clientele ie karaoke but with about 6 people in the restaurant who were all older. Dinner also took more than an hour to arrive. On the positive side - the staff were nice. Amani was helpful. Right on a beautiful beach and pool was nice. That’s probably all that was nice about this hotel. There was building work going on and the nice manager let us choose which room to use which was kind. That didn’t mean either room were actually nice though…

Truly amazing boutique hotel! 🏝️ the common areas make the difference. You fell like in a family ! Palm trees are everywhere to embrace you like the staff do ! Very welcoming . The scenario in front is fantastic. Ocean beaches local people. 15 days very happy in the same lovely hotel enjoy the drinks the food spectacular & tasty! My compliments & and gratitude for your hospitality, we cannot forget the housekeepers ready to clean perfectly everyday also decorating with the flowers. The manager is super helpful smiling polite and generous! Thank you Norbert 🫡☀️😃

The entire property is simply gorgeous, a true little oasis nestled in lush nature right on the beach. It’s so stunning and serene! My room was beautiful and very clean. You just can't beat the location, situated perfectly right in front of the ocean. The food was another highlight—the dinner and breakfast were top-notch! Waking up to a feast of fresh fruit, eggs, and pancakes. Best of all, the owner—so incredibly welcoming, flexible, and kind. He even providing a generous room upgrade and being totally accommodating with my check-in time. If you are planning a trip to Matemwe, you should try it here!

We had a wonderful 7-day stay at Seles, where we celebrated both Christmas and a birthday, and it couldn’t have been a better place to do so. The staff were incredibly helpful and truly engaged in planning the perfect birthday, which made the day extra memorable.||One of the things that really gave the place it’s soul was the cozy and relaxed atmosphere, where locals also stop by for a beer. It created an authentic and warm vibe that you rarely experience.||A special and heartfelt thank you to Mr. Kipara and his girlfriend, the staff Jeneth, Jacob and Feisal, as well as Eddie and Gerald. They welcomed us with open arms and made us feel more like part of the family than “just guests.” Their personal approach and great sense of humor made a huge difference to our stay.||We had a room facing the bar and reception, yet we were pleasantly surprised by how peaceful it was in the evenings, which we really appreciated. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the place felt very safe — the staff always checked in to make sure we were okay or if we needed anything.||It was easy to get around and explore the area, and the locals were always happy to help arrange a boda boda. We never felt alone or unsafe.||Another thing we truly appreciated was the relaxed and humorous atmosphere — we could joke and laugh with the staff without anyone taking it the wrong way. It created a genuine and natural connection.||When it was time to leave, we were genuinely sad. Don’t let the illusion of this being a ‘boutique’ hotel mislead you. The rooms are dark and dingy, the food is far too expensive and has little to no flavour. However, the staff let the place down the most. Moving about 2 miles per hour when carrying out ANY and ALL requests, acting as though you are an inconvenience to them every time you speak. The pool is tiny and unclean, far from the tropical paradise the hotel pictures suggest. The saving grace of this place is the beach itself which is just outside the hotel but if you want to relax and enjoy the Matemwe beach, this is not the hotel to do it from.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at in my life! Stay away. There was a rat and lizards in the room, no air conditioning… We spoke on the phone with someone named “Norbert,” who told us that if we weren’t happy, we could just leave. We were even threatened by someone from the hotel, who was holding a machete while threatening us… We called the police, but they seemed powerless. Just know that this was the worst experience of our lives, and we should have read the reviews before booking, because I can see that we are not the only ones.

Food was not great, bad service, 2 hours waiting for our food? I don’t recommend 👎🏻 we ordered tuna rolls as starters and we only got 4 pieces each when it’s supposed to be five. We asked for more of the tuna rolls and they never came.
