We had a nice stay at The Sense Resort, but since we are often visiting 4 and 5 star hotels, we can already compare quality and services.
The positive things: nice location, beach, free access to kajak and sup, good cocktails, nice staff and the bar and restaurant, rooms are clean, bikes are available. Excellent breakfast with a lot of variety.
To improve:
- food at the restaurant: I would never take half board, food is so much better (and cheaper) in the restaurants of Follonica - this is a bit sad, we would have stayed more if food would have been better (too much salt, no sauce or tomatoes in the pasta while there should be, steak not ok following Tuscan standards,…)
- bikes: bikes are not taken care of… we had dirty pants and shoes because of the grease, lights are broken so dangerous in the evening, I had one with a broken wheel,… one day I needed to give my room number, other days not… one day someone joined me to chose a good bike, other days I just received some random keys. Number of the bike you need to walk around and check every lock to know which one is yours… this could all be easily improved to a more professional service.
- friendliness/understanding at reception: asked for my opinion about our stay and I also filled in the online survey after day 1 ‘first impression’ but no reaction. Just an ‘ok, have a good trip’
- car parking: it’s under trees so car gets dirty from trees and bird sh*t which I don’t like
Missing:
- no wellness/spa, pool is not at an attractive location
- explanation about joga sessions etc (we discovered this on our last day) - info should be given at arrival
- more space to put clothes, in the standard room there’s almost no closet space, which is uncomfortable if you’re staying for a week with quite some clothes
It’s a bit sad to say, because this hotel has a lot of potential but is in my opinion not worth 5* in it’s current state.
