"Why we love it: A 900-year-old fortress-cum-prison reimagined as a luxurious getaway The Highlights: - Historical details like artifacts, original ironwork, and a stone arch bearing the seal of Abdul Hamid II - A fourth-floor infinity pool with uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea - A full-service spa with a Turkish hammam The Review: Located right on the main square in the old city of Jaffa, The Setai Tel Aviv is steeped in history. Built by the Crusaders as a fortress in the 12th century, the property later served as a kishle (jailhouse) under the Ottoman Empire, then a British command post during Israel’s War of Independence. When it became a hotel, the original building, with its stone corridors and inner courtyards, underwent a meticulous restoration that included archaeological digs to uncover several artifacts, which guests can now see in the lobby. Those eager to learn more about the hotel’s history can also walk through the large entry arch, crowned by the seal of Abdul Hamid II, or check out the stone-and-iron prison cells behind the grotto-like lobby bar. Spread over three newly created floors, the 120 rooms and suites feature an Ottoman-inspired design, complete with richly colored Turkish rugs, laser-cut pendant lamps, dark wood furniture, and sleek, textured headboards. Spacious bathrooms further the luxurious vibe with granite sinks, large bathtubs, and separate rain showers. Elsewhere on property is Jaya, where guests can indulge in an ample breakfast buffet and new-Mediterranean kosher food for lunch and dinner; former prison yards that serve as the hotel’s stunning front and rear courtyards, with comfy seating among verdant lemon trees; and a basement spa, which boasts a traditional Turkish hammam. Still, the hotel’s principal amenity has to be the fabulous infinity pool with panoramic views of the Mediterranean and downtown Tel Aviv—sunsets here are nothing short of spectacular."

Great Hotel with Excellent Stay
Excellent hotel in a perfect location. Facilities are high quality and the pool is very enjoyable. Breakfast was delicious and offered plenty of variety. The managers showed genuine care and warm attention that added a lot to our experience.
Service at the pool area could be improved—staff weren’t always attentive to tidiness and cleanliness. Similarly, service in the dining room sometimes felt indifferent and average. Improving these areas would raise the overall level of hospitality even further.

I had such an amazing stay at Setai Tel Aviv Hotel! From the minute I walked in, I felt welcome and taken care of. The staff were super friendly, the vibe was relaxed yet stylish, and my room was spotless and comfy. Every little detail was just right, and it honestly made me feel at home. I really appreciated how effortless everything felt—from check-in to check-out. It’s rare to find a place where everything clicks so perfectly. Can’t wait to come back on my next trip!

A terrible experience. Do not stay here for any reason. There are PLENTY of other FAR better hotels for your money.
Seriously - the room cleaning, didn't happen. We came here after our wedding - they knew it was our wedding, they left nothing for us in the room. The breakfast - no a la carte options, and cheap 'economy' brand cereals.
We came here from the Royal Beach, and our family were at the Market House down the road. Both infinitely better experiences and service. Everything we asked for from the hotel was too much. We were stunned that the room wasn't cleaned, that we got moved rooms in the middle of the night because of noise and had to battle to get a different room at 11pm at night.
Honestly, convenience is not a good enough reason to stay here. The hotel is beautiful from the outside. From the inside, it's a pile of overpriced, ostentatious, junk. Save your money and stay somewhere where the staff care about you.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this outstanding hotel. The facilities were impeccable, with clean, spacious rooms and stunning views. However, what truly made my stay memorable was the exceptional service provided by Adrian.
Adrian went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our visit was perfect. From the warm welcome at check-in to his attentive assistance throughout our stay, his professionalism and friendly demeanor stood out.
Thanks to Adrian and the entire team, our experience was not just a stay, but a delightful memory. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking top-notch service and hospitality. We will certainly be returning!

The Setai Tel Aviv is among the very finest hotels I know in Israel, and elsewhere. In an ancient building wonderfully restored, there are superb sea and city views everywhere and lots of fine art and books inside. Facilities are excellent, and the location very special, by the beach, and a short walk to Jaffa's old city, fishing port and large open-air market. And it's only a slightly longer walk to the quaint boutiquie neighborhoods of south Tel Aviv, south of the skyscraper city center. Best of all are clean, comfortable rooms and a welcoming staff devoted to making your stay memorable.

We enjoyed a spectacular room with an equally spectacular view of the ocean and beach. The hotel is beautiful and has a young vibe. The history of the property is special and the attention to detail is apparent from the lobby to the room. The best Israeli breakfast we had during our trip.

Seriously look no further. If there is even a negative review from anyone, I don’t believe it. |This place is perfection. The room, the staff, the food, all of it is incredible. |The staff like Chantale and Adrian are amazing people. I would suggest wholeheartedly to stay here over any hotel in Tel Aviv no questions asked. This is a gem of a place and I will forever stay here anytime I ever come back for the rest of my life. |That’s how amazing this place is. |Lastly, the views from the hotel are some of the best in all of Tel Aviv!

Wonderful staff and location. But this is not a 5 star hotel. It’s a 4 star at 5 start prices! Door paint are chipped, the room had a glass divider between the bed and the bathroom area that was completely filthy. No turn down service. No water in the room. The pool was completely packed with loud music and everyone speaking on speaker phone loudly and no respect for other guests. They had not left body cream in the room and the daily cleaning was subpar still saw coffee cup stain in my night table second night. I also noticed the jackets of the front desk staff were frayed and old. Very surprised as not what I have seen in other Setai hotels around the world.
