The Shakespeare Hotel I Restaurant & Bar I Pub I Micro Brewery

We went here for dinner and had the best experience. From. The moment we walked in the restaurant upstairs we were greeted with a smile and even though it was a bit busy they found us a nice table. They explained the history of the hotel and their beers as they have their own brewery. The beers were really good. We liked the home made crab cakes, the fish and chips, the salads and the fish of the day. Everything was beautifully arranged and just very tasty. They also do specials every night - named after Shakespeare’s works which are good deals. Would definitely come back.

I ordered a burger with chips. Nothing over the top and a typical pub meal that you expect to buy. It took 1 hour and 10 minutes for the simple pub meal to come out. It wasn't a fancy burger or had unusual items on it. Just a standard burger and chips. After 30 minutes I asked a staff member how long it would be and she abruptly said that we're very busy today so the wait will be 30 minutes. After an hour I asked someone behind the bar (who I later found out was the manager) how long it would be and he said that we're very busy tonight so the wait is a minimum 1 hour. Mind you, he was the one that took my order so he should've know that it was already longer than 1 hour. Admittedly, the burger was very tasty when it finally arrived, but it wasn't worth waiting 70 minutes for it. When the manager finally brought out the burger there was no apology for the long wait but rather the attidude of both staff members was a "don't care" attitude. What made it worse was that the guy sitting next to me had to wait 45 minutes for a simple fish and chips meal. Again, no apology and a don't care attitude by the staff. Very disappointing to say the least. I definitely won't be going back there while I'm visiting Auckland.

I stayed in room 12, I have stayed in better accommodation in third world countries. The smell when I entered i couldn't place, something like vinegar and mould. The room was tiny and awkward, the bed was seriously sunken in where people sat on the one accessible side. The tv didn't work, I would've needed to sign into my own Netflix account. No milk for the instant coffee. There was a consistently inconsistent fan noise outside the window. The remote for the aircon appeared to not work but I did manage to get it on manually. I could go on. I think staying in my car would've been a better option, it would've been free.

We decided to walk to this restaurant because the food looked good and was a decent price. We sat down and ordered a cocktail and my wife asked for a lime for her cocktail. Server brought her drink without a lime. We waited 10 more minutes for a lime. We decided to look through the menu and to our surprise everything was 10 dollars more than there online website menu. I asked to speak to the manager and he told me they needed to update their website. We finished our drink and went somewhere else. Not a good experience at all.

MOST DELICIOUS FARMER SALAD!! We arrived around 9pm and Brianna, the host, was amazingly gracious! She put in our order and it arrived quickly! The margarita pizza was piping hot with fresh ingredients. The farmers salad had roasted vegetables and fresh ones - huge portions! We sat outside on the balcony and the night air was perfect! Thank you for making our evening!! Broiled go again!

We booked a table with First Table the day before the Metallica concert. We knew Auckland would be busy, and wanted to book in advance to secure somewhere to eat - and the fact it was offered at a discount was even better! ... or so we thought. When we arrived, we were told that it was busier than they expected and we would have to wait for someone to leave before we could have the table. This was awful service, as most restaurants would simply put a placard on a table stating it must be free by 7pm. The service was slow, but we understood: Auckland was incredibly busy that night. However, the food was just standard pub food, and nothing to rave about. Overall, I think it's a poorly managed establishment, and on a quiet evening it might have been a better experience. However, I'd avoid booking here if it's going to be a busy night. The beer was great though 🍻

Really enjoyed the Fish and Chips. Both the Fish and the Chips were cooked perfectly. Piping hot. My wife had the ribs. They were also very good. Quality beers on tap. Good old rock and roll Playing on the speakers. Just a quality experience

We only went to eat to this place. Service was good. The place is quite old which can be seen in interior design. Plenty of empty tables on friday evening, no reservation needed. Pub is downstairs and restaurant upstairs. Food was ok, nothing special. Hamburger buns were cold when food arrived but all the meat was hot, fries were hot and delicious. Ribs, not so good, not so tender and tasty as I hoped. One of the foods came later than others because of mixup.
