The Shanty Café

Very large breakfast. Potatoes tasted a bit old. Sausages amazing. Bacon very good. Toast very good. Lovely staff!!! Absolutely love the restaurant’s premise.

Amazing soup and sandwiches for lunch. Warm and friendly atmosphere. The Cubano sandwich was super satisfying. Interesting soup options beyond the ordinary (Cuban black bean, ginger carrot apple, etc.). Definitely recommended!

We tried their cappuccino and drip coffee both were strong and fresh. The cafe seems to be a local popular, it was packed on a Monday morning! The server was a nice and courteous. Unfortunately didn't get to eat any there since we had already had our breakfast at home but definitely going back if we do visit Yarmouth in the future.

Very nice breakfast and friendly service. The French toast was great, good coffee, good quality bacon. The building itself is beautiful with the river rock.

Wonderful spot, whole family enjoyed the friendly service, delicious food and Nova Scotia vibes. Excellent and extensive menu. As of Nov 30, 2022 they're open 7am-2pm, closed evenings and weekends. Manager I spoke with send hrs will be extended for Spring and Summer seasons. Please give them a visit and enjoy!

Couldn't say more good things about this place. Stopped in on a whim this morning and was not disappointed... Everything was cooked perfectly, staff were lovely, my coffee never got empty, and the prices were incredible. I will be coming back for sure and not just once.

We were seated and ordered our food within minutes of entering the café. Food arrived exactly as ordered - they use a tablet, so be patient when you are a picky eater like me, lol! Our food was wonderful, and as you can see from the picture, the portions are huge. My mom's breakfast was already half eaten when I took the picture. They have an all day breakfast. The only downside I saw was there was no kids menu or small activities like coloring for kids.

This is a pleasure to find . I have been on the hunt for a local Breakfast place , which was open early. This place is a true Gem of Yarmouth. Excellent Food , so many choices. The customer service and atmosphere is top notch ! Thank you for the wonderful Experience. We will be back!!!

We had a delicious meal the Shanty Cafe! The service was great and the space was cute and clean. The BLT had juicy tomatoes, crisp lettuce, nice bacon, creamy mayo, and delicious homemade bread! I was very glad I chose it! The Cuban croquettes, served with sour cream, were fun to try and the Shanty breakfast was great! What a great place!

If you're looking for a home-cooked vibe, The Shanty is perfect! We stopped in for a late breakfast on our way out of town, and I would've gone back for lunch that day! The table next to us had lunch and I really wanted a club and onion rings, they looked awesome! Such great vibe - not fancy, but friendly and comfortable. If we weren't traveling, I would have bought a wheat loaf to take away! Kara made us feel at home.

The food is fresh and delicious and thankfully, something different from the regular fish and chip restaurants. The service is friendly and food is delivered in a timely manner. Presentation of the food is beautiful.

Our family had breakfast and the service as well as food was amazing. We went early before our ferry ride.

So grateful Shanty Cafe was open at 6am, as we had to catch the CAT Ferry very early and the other coffee and breakfast shops didn't open until 7am. We ordered food ahead so we could pick it all up and head straight to the Ferry. The two ladies working the morning shift were super friendly and cheerful, and packed everything up very nicely (also provided plastic ware, napkins, jam, etc - they didn't forget a thing!) The only reason I gave them three stars was because honestly, the food was not spectacular. The french toast was quite bland, a bit over cooked and greasy. The tortilla verde was pretty good. The coffee smelled wonderful but was a touch weak. In any event, it's a lively neighborhood spot. They have a shop next door that sells novelty items and art. We were in a rush so unfortunately didn't get to check it out although they had some items on display in the coffee shop.

Food is always amazing!!! Staff is great and attentive. Would definitely recommend, the environment was great as well

I never eat French toast and decided to order it because they make their own bread and it was wonderful. My partner had the main breakfast plate. Coffee was great. The service was wonderful. We were also given great advice to on places to go since we are from another country.

Delishious food,the people are great and they have the best coffee in town.would recommend this place to everyone. And their store next door is a bonus. Love it here.

The service was great and everyone was incredibly king. This is a very kid friendly space. High quality baby chair and the server brought over some books for our little one to enjoy. Unfortunately, the food was lacking. My wife got the chicken salad which was bland and aesthetically off putting. I got the mozzarella sticks a veggie burger. The burger had a play doh like texture and I have no idea what the mozzarella sticks were breaded in, but neither of finished out meals.

This place is just great! Great atmosphere, food and service! I love that they serve breakfast lunch and dinner all day. I had the delicious seafood chowder with my shantys breakfast! Will definitely return on my next trip to nova scotia!

Grabbed a quick bite for lunch. Friendly service in a quaint town. Fresh food and lots of vegetarian choices. Interior is nicely decorated and it has the option of outdoor patio seating.

This was awesome.... go....just go...I had the whole wheat French toast it was light and airy on homemade bread unbelievably delicious and Canadian bacon Yum 5 days later and I'm going back in am for that awesome French toast!! Have to board ferry at 7am.... ....But just thinking of the French toast will get me right out of bed LOL

Bad first impression when your creamer curdles your coffee. Ordered 2 eggs scrambled, bacon, white toast and home fries. So my scrambled eggs were microwaved bacon was cold, toast were cold and the oil they used for the home fries was rancid. Staff extremely friendly, kind of restaurant I try to find. Disappointing!

I stopped at the Cafe to have dessert, the Service was good. Nice veiw of the harbor.

This place was awesome. Very basic presentation but the flavors of the food were fantastic. I had the kabir, apparently named after their first chef who was from India. Whole wheat bun recommended. Even the associated tomatoes were tasty. My husband got "just-the-fish" and a bowl of black bean soup. Dessert was a dulce de leche cheesecake. All of is was super delicious. You would not have noticed but apparently they employ people who are socially challenged. There is a crafts store abutting the restaurant that was closed at our visit. This place is awesome.

We had a great breakfast! Two of us got the French Toast and would order it 100 times over! The other two had a traditional breakfast and it didn't disappoint either.

Great food, great price and great service; excellent choice if you want more choices than seafood.

Son and I had lunch here today. Eggs and bacon (very large portion) for me. Prepared as requested, it was very good. He had the Trois Burger and was blown away. This is now in his top 3 burgers, which is an elite list (e.g. Annie's on the big island of Hawaii). He wanted another but we had an appointment. Great place, very friendly and casual. Appreciate the mission-based approach. Recommended!

I love this place. The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend stopping in for breakfast and getting the Shanty Breakfast. Tons of food for a great price.

What a treat to find this wonderfully friendly restaurant whose chefs prepare delicious, diverse Cuban, Indian, Canadian foods. Hard to choose from the eclectic menu. Our choices were fantastic. In the morning grabbed yummy breakfast and cappuccinos on way to ferry. On top of the culinary excellence the restaurant provides jobs and support for people who have disabilities. No better place to eat and support a local community.

Every dish was delicious. Fresh nuanced flavors. I keep dreaming of the Middle Eastern wrap I had. I'm Cuban and the Cuban food passed my test! Their homemade bread was awesome. Great drink selection.Thank you to the positive friendly staff.
