We stayed in the dove loft, which is beautiful. All the furnishings and decor are calming and thoughtfully put together to create the perfect base to retreat to when the hustle and bustle of Whitby in the summer season gets a bit much. Theres so much to do and see in Whitby, but I kept finding excuses to pop back to the loft for a bit to refresh and centre myself. It's spacious, (which is nice after weaving through the crowds on regatta Monday!) and this meant that we could all find somewhere to gather our thoughts without feeling on top of each other. If, like me, you love the colour and excitement of this busy little town, but need somewhere calm to retreat occasionally, this loft is perfect. I saw another review say the telly is too small, but it's perfectly useable, how much telly do you need to watch on holiday anyway? It's perfect for putting something on to keep your teenager entertained while you zone out for 20 minutes, and that's all you need. Now on to the bath!! I stayed for 2 days and had 4 baths! I would have stayed in it all day if I didn't have other holiday activities to do! It's so big and it fills up really quickly. Luxury! ||I really would recommend staying at shepherd's purse to anyone I liked. The dove loft is the biggest room, I've stayed in a smaller room before and that was beautiful too, very comfortable, cosy and had a lovely seating area on the balcony outside the room too, which most rooms have. There is also a charming courtyard that is lit up beautifully with fairy lights at night. 10/10

This accommodation is very well situated in the heart of Whitby. The style of the communal areas are lovely. It was quite clean. The communal terrace is also nice, though spider webs could be found every where around the seats. However, there are some downsides which will prevent me from a second stay at this accommodation, which are the lack of parking, challenge of finding an empty car park nearby, extremely small size of the  room and lack of essential amenities. The room is too small and you literally need to jump into the bed and stay there for everything you want to do as there’s not enough space in the room to sit. There’s only one chair in the room which is odd for a two bed room. There are no tables to sit at while two drawers are there, which seem unnecessary. There's no refrigerator. Additionally, the mattress or the extra mattress under the bed, and the pillows smelled bad which was really unpleasant. If they complete the amenities, get some reserved parking spot in the Church St car park and replace the smelly stuff with new ones, this place can  turn into a decent stay.

Fabulous place, so close to all amenities. The rooms are beautiful and so relaxing in the courtyard. Would highly recommend & would definitely stay again.

A hidden gem! Tucked away in a courtyard in the historic old town. It was the perfect base for our walks and stayed Saturday and Sunday evening. We stayed in room 5, although it was small, the room was warm and cosy and had everything we needed. Recommend catching the train to Grosmont and walking back and also walking to Sandsend and eating at the Fish Cottage. We will return.

Cute little accomodation set in a hidden garden. The only downside is how thin the walls are. You neighbors will hear everything you say and vice versa.

If you’re looking for somewhere in the centre of things but when you’re in bed that feeling of being miles from anywhere. Shepherds Purse is the most quaint and tranquil places I’ve ever stayed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful place ❤️ central to everything so ideal location. The rooms beautifully decorated. People that run it lovely and helpful. Rooms very clean and comfortable.||Few downside esp if u have mobility problems.||1. We couldn't park in the carpark closer to the rooms( no parking at the hotel you have to pay £9/10 per day for parking ), it's a very small carpark, we tried all 4 days we were there. The next carpark is a 20/30min walk depending on mobility, also there are alot of steep steps, I really struggled, going up for me was impossible my partner had to come pick me up for car journeys. If your in a wheelchair it is not possible to get down from the top carpark.||2. We were in the bottom rooms, ground floor. unfortunately you hear everything that's going on in the above rooms 😔 talking, swearing, people walking about, taps, toilet flushing etc we got woken up quite a few times in the middle of the night, at one point had to go out and ask the people above to please stop banging around it sounded like there were moving furniture. If u struggle sleeping get a room on top floor.(This was a big disappointment for me as I struggle to sleep as it is).||3. The courtyard/garden bit isn't private, I have ME/CFS so needed to rest bk in the room. Unfortunately had people just wandering up into the courtyard, few times children tried to open our door, this also included at night, drunk people wondering into the courtyard. It would be best if you could lock the gate at night at least.||I would go back again but would definitely book a room on the top floor. Other then the above, the rooms and court yard are magical and well kept and clean. Beds comfy, towels included and shampoo etc.

Booked a two night stay and wasn't disappointed - The Shepherds Purse is a romantic little gem, hidden down a cobbled alley amongst the quaint streets of Whitby's old town. It's like walking into a secret garden, with an abundance of plants and cute sitting areas for guests. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in our cosy room with four-poster bed and sitting in the courtyard having a cuppa with the fairy lights twinkling away! The bistro right next door is only a few metres away, serving lovely food with plenty of seating and friendly staff. Rooms are a short walk from Whitby Abbey, the harbour and lots of charming gift shops, pubs and cafés. Even though it's close to lots of amenities, it's surprisingly quiet when sitting outside the property. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, thank you!
