The Shinra (Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"At the end of Chiba’s Bōsō Peninsula, facing back towards Tokyo Bay, is The Shinra, a modern ryokan that’s been expanded with the addition of a mid-rise tower, offering unparalleled views up and down the coastline. Every room, whether in the original building or in the tower, has a view out to sea, as well as a balcony and an open-air spring-fed bath. Some of the finest views are reserved for the public onsen, set 50 meters above sea level; the seafood-focused restaurant features open-kitchen teppanyaki cooking in a dining room surrounded by lush forest." - Tablet Hotels

Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights during our honeymoon. Location and room were fantastic, very relaxing experience. Strongly recommend both the food at breakfast and the dinner menu - was a highlight of the trip for us both. The staff were fantastic despite not speaking English and us not speaking Japanese- they met every one of our needs and went above and beyond.

This is an amazing hotel! It is a cross between a hotel and a ryokan. From the moment you enter the parking lot, it seems like you are the only customer that matters. This hotel is on top of a hill and they meet you at the parking lot at the bottom and whisk you up to the hotel. You are given a hot towel, drinks, and a snack in the lounge as you sign in and make dining and spa choices. There is a free drinks time and you can choose to eat dinner in the lounge or in your room. We choose our room. ||||It seems like all the rooms have a good view but I thought ours was particularly good. The room is clean and modern with a nod to traditional Japan with tatami floors. They provide fluffy towels, a sumptuous robe, and pajamas, as well as a whole line of bath accessories and aroma therapy items. The room had an ofuro on the patio and you could bath in the hot tub while enjoying the ocean view. On a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji from your room. The food came up in many courses and was lovely. ||||We walked to the beach and drove to several shrines from the hotel with ease. I didn't take advantage of the massage services but I have no doubt they are as wonderful as everything else in this hotel. Really, I did feel like royalty!

The price certainly speaks for itself. A very luxurious, traditional japanese hot spring experience. The hotel is recently refurbished. All rooms are very luxurious, has their own private hot spring, and incredible sea view. Dinner and breakfast was delicious. Totally worth it. Rent a car cause the location is quite remote.

This hotel supposed can tailor the meal to you. That's a lie. My Japanese wife talked to them by phone three times- making sure I got a cooked prawn and they failed to supply us a full prawn as per the menu and they eventually after she complain, the owner snickered at her by phone and finally sent a refund in cash- no letter at all . The hotel has no lift so enjoy walking up to three storeys. Terrible toiletries and rough as old bags hotel clothing irritated my skin. The food is simply carried upstairs to your room so the cold food and hot food are both room temperature. The outside bath has no over-hang so it bad if it rains. The electrical controls are a pain and look like they are put together by an amateur. Only good things are an adjustable shower and that you can see Kites (birds). They also have the cheek to insist you take off your shoes when they have wooden floors. Way below the standard for a high class hotel.

Office workers were so kind and room was great. Especially, the view in the room was awesome. It is quite good! If I have a chance for visiting Chiba, I'm willing to stay again. In addition, the meals were perfect. Thank you for everyone who charged us. ありがとうございました!!

High level boutique hotel, all rooms with onsen bath. Excellent food in the restaurant. Views from rooms out over the sea, with bonus of Fuji at sunset if you are lucky.

Great room and great location for food. It was a hotel where you can spend a relaxing and luxurious time. The road to the hotel is long and arduous, but it will be worth it.
