"They're white topaz, not, you know [diamonds], but don't worry, no one will be able to tell the difference."
But we can, and the assumption that everyone I know is that stupid -and- that I'm desperate to be wearing diamonds, when I just thought the ring was interesting, rankles.
It is not that the shop or the sales-people are bad, exactly, it's that they seem slightly out of touch with the universe. The interior is packed with little boutiques full of brightly-hued kitsch, marked up to ridiculous levels. I feel as though the whole place is geared towards slightly silly upper class, tennis-skirt wearing mothers [which can be awesome people, but do not shop the same way I do at all], yearning for their college days. While there were a few things I liked, I reconsidered the moment I looked at any of the price tags, be it bracelets, shirts, or cocktail napkins.
