You drive into a car park and see the signal station. Your site seeing roadtrip is going to boring plan. But to the side you see a restaurant! Your roadtrip is now winning.
Entering the building you'll be transported back in time... to, like, 2013 when they last repainted. It's a beautiful old cottage turned restaurant with plush couches, comfy chairs and white linen on the tables. It used to be the old Signal Master's cottage or something like that. Damn, he was sitting on some nice land. I'm sure it was cold and shit back in his day, but dude - those views!
If you're lucky you'll be greeted by a wonderful lady with a thick german accent, in a nice way. She is delightful and very friendly, and I loved every word she spoke.
We stopped by for lunch and the inlaws insisted on paying. If your inlaws are generous - take them with you. This isn't a cheap meal.
Between us, we ordered:
- Pan fried scallops and prawns
- Caesar salad with warm grilled chicken
- Fish of the day
- Tasmanian Grass Fed NY Cut Porterhouse
It was delicious. Even my father in law, who routinely scoffs at fancy meals, ate all of his fish and the accompanying watermelon based salad. He didn't understand the presence of the watermelon, but he still ate it. This is impressive.
They also serve the delightful Frogmore Creek FGR Riesling. Perhaps my favouritest riesling ever because of its sweetness.
It should be said, probably more than a third of our happiness with this place can be attributed to not having to pay the bill, but I have no doubt we'll be back when we next have something to celebrate.
