On the Grid : The Sinkhole at Thomas & Washtenaw

"Everybody's favorite colossal rotting pavement hole! Drop in a quarter for good luck, an old shoe for kicks, or just deposit your entire fastfood bag—there's plenty of room for any old thing you want to disappear." - Firebelly Design

Went to Sinkhole for a metal music night with our daughter and the place was AWESOME! Sound system ROCKED and Matt, the owner, was a pleasure to meet and talk to. Fellow patrons were great kids having a fun time. Go if you love some alternative music, punk, metal or just plain rock! We had a blast!

Went to check out some local bands for a benefit show. Energy was on point, and everyone I met (staff, musician and patron alike) were lovely examples of lovely people. Thanks for making a new kid feel welcome!

At the end of the day it's a fun place to watch a show and they pay their artists well. But, in my experience the staff has been very rude. They are strict about when they close but are not forthright with that information. It was only a couple minutes after the last band had played when they yelled "everyone out" really loud and aggressively. I understand that they're working and want to go home but it was unprofessional. With no warning, I found myself totally alone, in not a great area, out in the cold, and waiting for my ride. Lastly, just get a venmo. People aren't carrying cash and it's not advertised on the band posters that it's a cash only place. I really do not like it here but I admit that it's a great spot for the scene.

Cash only bar, but priced well. Great little spot to catch some local music.

Good spot. Rock shows! Have you heard Vulture Vulture? They are probably the greatest new new grungegaze band in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The Sinkhole is where new new grungegaze broke. It is going to be a big deal.

A lot of good shows here for very cheap.

The stage is a good size and the sound system is great. They have colored lighting and when my boyfriend's band played they had it green. Not a flattering color and it made pictures and videos look bad. They had stools around the bar, but no chairs or tables for people to watch the band and put their ridiculously expensive drinks down. Not everyone can stand for hours. And the bathrooms are dark and scary.

Cheap drinks and punk rock, what more can you ask for?
