Popped in for a light lunch and was met with most generous portions of food I've had in a very long time. Two alcoholic drinks and two ploughman's lunches for under 30 pounds, quite shocked really! Lovely pub, nice staff member that served us and with a good view out the back. Definitely recommend.

Having seen this as a recommendation on instagram we decided to have an anniversary meal here. Pub is exactly as described. Old, historic, flag stone, open fire and very rustic. Lots of dogs welcomed and people chit chatting, making a very friendly vibe. Guy behind the bar wasn't overly chatty and seemed a bit rushed off his feet .Menu is on a board next to the bar. Lots of choice and we anticipated home made dishes. We ordered steak and chips and beer battered cod and chips. |The steak was ok. The chips were frozen fries and the beer battered cod was also from the freezer! I peeled the batter off to find a condensed piece of fish which I doubt was cod, gave my husband the fries and tucked into some salad leaves, one slice of cucumber and some peas! Very disappointing! |I knew I should have asked if it was fresh fish!

An impressive old building in a great country setting. Very interesting history but couldn't see much information about it in the bar. The food however was obviously frozen in origin. The ham was thin and the bbq sauce too sweet. Served with basic frozen peas. The staff were friendly however. Such a shame the food is sub par but I guess the punters will come anyway due to the building's fame as the oldest and spookiest pub in Wales.

This 900 year old inn has an interesting and ghostly history. The walls and artifacts share some of the dark goings on from the past. It's reputed to be the oldest inn in Wales. Nice selection of beers and a good menu. Plenty of seating inside, and out the back. Friendly staff. Large car park.

Lovely pub - Oldest in Wales! Food was yummy and good sized portions. Good selection of beer on tap. Looks like dogs are allowed in the pub which going by another review must have changed?

Went there for a meal last night, Monday 16th June 2025. Bar staff amazing. Service was superb. Food was outstanding especially the dessert. Great selection too. Eat in or outside, up to you. Very clean. Fabulous building. Would definitely go again if in the area. 10/10

This was such a lovely place to go for dinner.Such atmosphere and even I ( the fussiest person when eating out) was so impressed by the menu and my food. I'm even trying to recreate the recipe now I'm home. Wished I lived nearer as I'm 170 miles away back home now.And ...the prices were very reasonable!

Only thing that let's it down beer garden needs TLC. It had rained Ash trays full of water. However food cheap and quality. Staff great check the hours though closes some afternoons. Historic and expensive neighbourhood. Plenty of parking. I will return

The Skirrid Mountain Inn (otherwise known as the Skirrid Inn) lies between Abergavenny and Hereford, at the entrance to the valley in which lies Llanthony Priory. One of the claimants to the title of Britian's oldest pub, a court is recorded as being held at the Millbrook Inn on the site in 1110, when two brothers were tried for theft and sheep stealing (one was hanged for his crime). The Priory was founded in 1108 and it is possible the pub was built to provide for pilgrims and other visitors. Manorial Courts were held here until 1485, with local courts thereafter. Hangings took place, so tradition has it, within the pub itself some 180 over the years. More of the pub's history can be found on the website. That all said, the exact age of the present structure is more debateable; most of the visible features are 17th century, although the main structure may be older. The pub today is happily unpretentious and has a rustic main room with bare stone walls, a huge stone fireplace and bar. There's a further small, cosy bar and two larger rooms, used for functions and at busy times. It serves a clutch of real ales, as well as food at lunchtimes and in the evenings. The food menu features traditional pub grub with decent portions, and there's an extensive choice of locally sourced meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, with starters and desserts, as well as sandwiches and filled baked potatoes at lunchtimes. Typical mains are around £6, up to £14 for steak. When we ate there were several families there with young children as well as couples of various ages, and in the summer it is popular with walkers and tourists.
