This 900 year old inn has an interesting and ghostly history. The walls and artifacts share some of the dark goings on from the past. It's reputed to be the oldest inn in Wales. Nice selection of beers and a good menu. Plenty of seating inside, and out the back. Friendly staff. Large car park.

Lovely pub - Oldest in Wales! Food was yummy and good sized portions. Good selection of beer on tap. Looks like dogs are allowed in the pub which going by another review must have changed?

Went there for a meal last night, Monday 16th June 2025. Bar staff amazing. Service was superb. Food was outstanding especially the dessert. Great selection too. Eat in or outside, up to you. Very clean. Fabulous building. Would definitely go again if in the area. 10/10

This was such a lovely place to go for dinner.Such atmosphere and even I ( the fussiest person when eating out) was so impressed by the menu and my food. I'm even trying to recreate the recipe now I'm home. Wished I lived nearer as I'm 170 miles away back home now.And ...the prices were very reasonable!

Came for an evening of investigation and it did not disappoint. Bar staff and serving staff were very efficient and the food was lovely. The location is quiet and beautiful surroundings. Very cosy very old pub. Toilets were clean. Prices and variation on their menu was superb. A must go if you are in the area!

Our lunch was absolutely delicious - we had lamb shank, slow cooked venison and the steak and ale pie - and staff were very kind and welcoming. The atmosphere was traditional and charming, and we enjoyed it a lot. Definitely recommended for a meal, or even just a drink, and hope to visit again soon!

I went with my family around a week ago, unfortunately we felt anything but welcome here. The atmosphere from the 'locals' was not very pleasant, and staff do not exactly give you a warm welcome. I can honestly say it's one of the most unfriendly pubs we've ever visited!|Would never go back sorry to say.

My room was huge! Warm too. Great to stay in such an old pub. Evening meal was very good and breakfast too. Staff were helpful and friendly. I was walking Offa's Dyke Path - note that the start for the walk (towards Hay on Wye) is 1 mile from the pub.

The Skirrid Mountain Inn (otherwise known as the Skirrid Inn) lies between Abergavenny and Hereford, at the entrance to the valley in which lies Llanthony Priory. One of the claimants to the title of Britian's oldest pub, a court is recorded as being held at the Millbrook Inn on the site in 1110, when two brothers were tried for theft and sheep stealing (one was hanged for his crime). The Priory was founded in 1108 and it is possible the pub was built to provide for pilgrims and other visitors. Manorial Courts were held here until 1485, with local courts thereafter. Hangings took place, so tradition has it, within the pub itself some 180 over the years. More of the pub's history can be found on the website. That all said, the exact age of the present structure is more debateable; most of the visible features are 17th century, although the main structure may be older. The pub today is happily unpretentious and has a rustic main room with bare stone walls, a huge stone fireplace and bar. There's a further small, cosy bar and two larger rooms, used for functions and at busy times. It serves a clutch of real ales, as well as food at lunchtimes and in the evenings. The food menu features traditional pub grub with decent portions, and there's an extensive choice of locally sourced meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, with starters and desserts, as well as sandwiches and filled baked potatoes at lunchtimes. Typical mains are around £6, up to £14 for steak. When we ate there were several families there with young children as well as couples of various ages, and in the summer it is popular with walkers and tourists.
