We had a great experience at this hotel. A lovely room, away from the front of the building ( it's a downtown environment...so some street noise) and the layout meant that we had some bathroom privacy which others have commented on. (It's a very design- led place and perhaps won't be to more traditional tastes). The on- line help and the staff on site were just superb when we had a problem with our original room ( a blocked drain) and moved us very rapidly to another room. It showed that the low- touch model works well and has given us confidence to use Sonder in the future. The code/device entry system worked perfectly. The location is really great and the local coffee and food options are ...huge! A big thanks to the on site team for their care and help.

I’m sorry, but I cannot recommend this hotel. I’ve stayed at Sonder in New York before, and that experience was much better. For the price I paid here—about $700 for two nights—you can definitely find a better hotel. The AC is locked at 21°C and cannot be lowered, while the fan is set to auto and turns on every 45 minutes, which was uncomfortable. I also didn’t like that the toilet was in a separate small space with a strange exhaust smell. We stayed in room 305 on the 3rd floor, and from the windows, we could see directly into Bestco Supermarket. The blinds also had gaps, which raised privacy concerns. Overall, for the amount of money charged, this stay did not feel worth it. To each their own, but I personally will not be returning.

I initially booked this hotel through Booking.com but decided to cancel my reservation. The main reason was because the full amount was charged almost three months before my stay, even though the booking was supposed to be fully refundable — which I found very unreasonable. Since making the booking, I received several reminder emails every single day (sometimes three per day!) asking me to “finalize” the reservation with the hotel. This was extremely pushy and unprofessional. After canceling, I was told that it may take up to 14 days to receive a refund. I find it unacceptable to be charged such a large amount so far in advance and then have to wait two weeks to get it back, especially when I never even stayed at the hotel. Overall, this experience did not inspire any trust.

We booked this hotel for a concert due to its close proximity to the Roger’s centre. We booked a cheaper room, but the morning of the concert we got an email that we had been upgraded to a suite. This was such a nice surprise for us to enjoy. We also had an issue with our payment card, which the support team fixed almost instantly for us. I highly recommend staying here. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable and the support team are wonderful

The Slate Hotel has an ownership problem that needs to be remedied by Marriott. 3 Days prior to my arrival I double checked my reservation to make sure everything was set only to find that the reservation had been cancelled the day before. Called to find out what happened It turns out the hotel itself cancelled the reservation because they overbooked. They then hung up on us. When we tried to call back they refused to answer our calls. No Email, No phone call no explanation. Just a cancellation. Had I arrived at the hotel I would have been out. When contacting Sonder by email their response was simply "Too bad". They refused to help me find alternate lodging. In looking at past reviews this seems to be a trend. DON'T STAY HERE. It can't be trusted that your reservation will be honored.

5 stars across the board!! Loved the location, so much to do, see and eat! A lot of the negative reviews seem like very little to no research was done on the type of stay this hotel offers and the location. It is more like an Airbnb stay (which we loved) and the location, the entertainment district, is always going to be louder and busier (more to do at any time!). Everything was clean upon arrival staff was kind and helpful, very easy check in and out. No headaches! Personally can’t say anything about cars or parking as we had taken the train into Toronto which I always recommend over driving if possible. We loved everything about our weekend trip and are excited to come back!

Stayed July 30, 2025 – Room #402 We checked in on July 30 and were initially impressed with the clean and cozy room. After returning from dinner later in the evening, we encountered a significant issue of the building’s access code no longer working, leaving us locked out of the hotel for approximately 45 minutes. We contacted Sonder support by phone, during which there was no seating or shelter available outside the property. We were eventually told it was a system glitch and the buzzer had been reset. When we finally got back into the room, we discovered the refrigerator was also not functioning, meaning we had no way to store our food either. While we appreciate the minimalist concept of the hotel, these issues are unacceptable given the price point. Overall, our experience was disappointing and we most likely will not stay again nor recommend the hotel to our friends and family. Thank you.

The room was fairly clean, and the location is good, other than that I would not recommend. Lots of damage in the building, halls, water damage. No amenities, could not find a place to get additional towels, and there is only staff on location a few hours a day. They use a chat in the app to communicate, but it takes awhile for them to get back to you. The elevator was shut down during my stay for about 2 hours and we were only given about 5 minutes of warning. Not really enough time to change plans if we he stairs aren’t an option.
