The Slaughters Manor House (Lower Slaughter, Cotswolds) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A beautiful part-17C manor house built from Cotswold stone and surrounded by delightful grounds. Elegant bedrooms are split between the house and stables – the former are individually styled, the latter more up-to-date – and guest areas are stylish. The formal restaurant offers modern fare." - Tablet Hotels

Quite a disappointing stay at this hotel - not as good as I was expecting. I intially phoned on Sunday night to book but I was told that they were fully booked even though there were 2 deluxe rooms showing on the website. The receptionist told me to book online which I did and there was space. I paid £330 per night but I think that was very expensive as i have cheaper . When we arrived I was told the money had not gone from our account so I would have to deposit money for our stay or pay upfront. Did they think we were going to leave without paying. The rather curt receptionist wanted to put £100 for drinks for the first night! We just decided to pay upfront. I have never experienced this before. We were then taken to our room which was disappointing as the wallpaper was black and the furniture made of mirror and shiny metal with 2 large stainless steel urns stuck next to the dressing table. I suppose we just expected something more traditional, but it was a good size and overlooked the front of the house with a good bathroom|The breakfast was excellent - good choice and good quality food with attentive staff.|As it was a special anniversary we ate in the restaurant and the food was well cooked . We were charged £14 for a 175ml of white wine which I think is about £18 to buy on the open market it then had 10% service charge on top (as did dinner) which made it £15.40. Needless to say we did not eat there again. The inn over the road is under the same ownership.|When it was for a special occasion it was disappointing for the price we paid so therfore would not wish to return unfortunately.

I thought the hotel itself was lovely, it’s in a quaint village, one I’ve passed through many times before, and I’d always loved this manor house, so I was genuinely very excited to finally stay here. However, the service and the room were unfortunately not up to standard.||We arrived on a Saturday around 14:00. Although check-in wasn’t until 15:00, we were able to check in early and were shown to our room promptly. At first glance, everything was beautiful, until it wasn’t.||When using the bathroom for the first time upon entering the room, it was clear that it had not been properly cleaned. There was residue and tissue left in the toilet, no toilet roll, and used hygiene products still left in the bin, which was very unpleasant. As we headed out to Bourton for a late lunch and I informed the receptionist about the issue and asked if the bathroom could be cleaned and the towels and robes replaced, as we no longer felt confident they were fresh. When we returned, nothing had been done. I ended up having to sort some of it out myself and went back to reception to request toilet roll.||Later, when getting ready for dinner, I tried to close the curtains for privacy, only to find that they wouldn’t shut properly. After a lovely dinner, we asked if someone could help us with the curtains, as we did not want to break anything and as the lights outside the manor were shining directly into the room. Someone came up, but instead of using the mechanism, they simply yanked them closed. This didn’t solve the problem, and a beam of light still shone across the bed throughout the entire night. This however did distract us from the very bright green light from the Fire Exit Door in our room also.||We were then woken early by the sunrise and struggled to fall back asleep. Before breakfast we decided to have a coffee to wake us up, we went to use the Nespresso machine in the room just to find that there were decaf pods only, this made it feel quite pointless. On a positive note, breakfast was absolutely lovely.||Upon check-out, I reminded the staff of these issues, but my concerns were swept under the carpet with little acknowledgment.||Overall, I left feeling disappointed. For an anniversary weekend away, this stay was short of our expectations.

We stayed at The Manor House for two nights in early July, it was beyond idyllic. |Firstly, Lower Slaughter is just beautiful and as my title states, it is exactly what you might picture when you imagine a tiny Cotswold village, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place. |The Manor House itself is immaculately kept, from the grounds, to the public areas, to the bedrooms. Everywhere is spotless. Our room was a Junior Suite thanks to a very generous upgrade on arrival, it was very spacious with a huge, canopied bed which was very comfortable.|Breakfast on both mornings was very good, table service as opposed to buffet which we would always prefer. The service was impeccable both mornings.|One evening we ate at the sister property, the Country Pub across the road, the food was lovely. The second evening we ate at the Manor House dining room - that meal was phenomenal. |Overall, we had a fantastic stay and look forward to returning.

Google
Amazing break with a beautiful room. Special mentions go to Jamie and Sharon who provided such an amazing service and for looking after our two boys, with all of their requests. Jamie also served us with Afternoon tea upon arrival, impeccable service. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, buys had their two beds made up and enjoyed the cookies. Excellent location.

I returned today from staying at this hotel for two nights after taking my elderly mum and my daughter and her best friend. We loved the hotel, the location and the food. Excellent staff especially at breakfast . Beautiful rooms with stunning views. Would definitely recommend others to stay here. The first time visiting the Cotswolds and it did not disappoint. After living abroad and not holidaying in the UK for many years, this hotel made me feel proud to be British.

Have just returned from a delicious afternoon tea in front of a roaring log fire. The food and service was excellent and we were given a choice of places to sit, either at a table or in comfy chairs/sofa. Would definitely recommend it to others.

I wish I had read the reviews on the Manor House Lower Slaughter before I went for afternoon tea with five friends. | We sat on low sofas , lovely for relaxing but for afternoon tea we were constantly having to lean forward to reach for the food making it a very uncomfortable exercise. A table and chairs would have been much more suitable, more comfortable and easier and consequently more relaxing .| The bread on the sandwiches was far too thick, there was a chunk of sausage roll/slice, a minimal amount of cream for the scones, not sure what the cakes were and we had to ask for extra tea. When I got home I found I had been overcharged, that was certainly adding insult to injury. I contacted the hotel , no reply on first attempt and when I did get through they did acknowledge that I had been overcharged but absolutely no apology although they said they would reimburse me just for the extra they had overcharged me.|There is no disabled toilet for none staying guests which is a disgrace. |All in all an extremely disappointing visit .|DO THE OWNERS REALLY KNOW HOW THEIR HOTEL IS BEING RUN?

Just home after a fabulous evening meal. Cameron and Connor looked after our party of 6 with humour and quiet efficiency. The food, service and wine pairings were great. A most enjoy evening in beautiful surroundings. Thank you

Yelp
Across the lane from the river, half-hidden by a stone wall, is Lower Slaughter Manor. This is the sister property to the nearby Lower Slaughter Inn (where Gayle and I were staying). For Lower Slaughter, this is the fancy schmancy 17th century estate house and built for the Whitmore family, lords of the manor at Lower Slaughter from 1611. Gayle and I weren't sure they were going to let us in, but staff was kind enough to let us look around the impressive outside grounds and the greater inside common areas. Having a drink at the bar was also a good way to settle into our tour. I was also personally taken by the billiards room.

Yelp
Disappointment. Horrible staff and boring atmosphere. Rude bartender and dry staff. The room has been the only good part of the stay. Left the restaurant before we even got our food.

Yelp
Love this amazing hotel - we were here in 2018 must have forgotten to write a review. And we still look back on our time here with great fondness. This hotel is most definitely a place to stay if you are looking for a hotel in Lower Slaughter.

Yelp
Magnificent grounds and house. Beautiful village. I could not believe that they were not serving Sunday lunch. I remember when it was hard to get a table at the Manor many years ago. Sad to see it's lost a lot of it's previous charm

Yelp
Super rude staff, stoped here for coffee and while the grounds are pretty I was not enjoyable. The waiter actually told one of the guests that simply asked for a check to quiet down. VERY rude.

Yelp
Don't get uppity about being in Upper Slaughter. Leisurely loll over fields down to the Lower side. Take a squiz at their exquisite surroundings as shingle crunches beneath your feet as you stroll up the drive, (I didn't feel unwelcome in hiking boots having hoofed it from the Upper side, however not to cramp their dining style we sat outside). It was a gorgeous day and we sat under wide white parasols. Lower Slaughter Manor is by no means more downstairs than up and it's up and coming triple AA rosette awarded chef Jamie Rafferty and his creations are as sumptuous as the settings are sightly. On the fine day we dined for a spot of lunch and gentle gentry sport outside, picture perfect lawns had croquet ready and set up to play whilst we were waited on. Service was exemplary and I felt like Belle in the 'Be Our Guest' scene of Beauty and The Beast as staff magically appeared, choreographed and in formation in crisp white linen aprons, they came in methodical swathes attending to our every need. I could rather get used to it here. Sadly, only here for the day we settled for lunch. After our hike I ordered what I thought to be a fulsome hearty fish chowder and the sommeliers suggestion of berry crisp blush to accompany it. What was served in fact was not a chunky chowder but a beautiful structural stile of gently seared intensely flavoursome fish; golden turbot and rosette of smoked salmon. Before I could say 'ooh this looks fishy, not what I ordered' another waiter deftly flanked my side and from a jug of fine porcelain, poured a bubbly broth of buttery foam over the fish. It pooled beautifully around the bowl and hey presto was the prettiest plate of food I'd ever seen. Feeling a fool for momentarily mistaking the meal, I soon saw that this was in fact a handsome chowder to chow on.

Truly sumptious, extravagant experience. Further detail to follow.

Yelp
Great little hotel in a lovely village. Very nice. 3 Rosettes on Michelin. Working on a star--I think they'll get there. Young and creative chef/pastry chef team that is new--highly regarded by their staff and justly so. Also, a hard working staff that cares and that tries to be elegant. Lovely grounds. Some of the best local walks anywhere in England. The little inn in the old school across the stream is nice outdoor pub if you have good weather. There is a back door into the church yard to the side that keeps you off the front road if you want to walk up toward Upper Slaughter. There's another in across a few fields if you go back behind the Mill on the little path aside it. Rooms are big...breakfast is all you'd want it to be. Kippers very nice. Black pudding with the English. Nice and somewhat thoughtful wine list of non-standard items. Lots of little nibble items between courses thrown in. Do go for the full dinner/breakfast deal with the room...the other options aren't astonishing in the area...and this is a delight. Wifi in lobby does reach most rooms and it's free.
