The food was wonderful! Unlimited appetizers (salad, cottage cheese which pairs with a tomato chutney, and coleslaw) are brought to every table. Ribeyes were perfectly cooked and delicious! Unlimited sides with those (mashed potatoes, gravy, & cream corn). Dessert is an ice cream sandwich, which I would only give a 3/5. The restaurant was a little on the cool side, so I kept my coat on. Definitely make a reservation in advance! I've been here a few times over the last decade, and it's always been great!

This place is amazing!! The food is so fresh! Best fried chicken ever and sides. Service is awesome as well. Make sure and come hungry! The atmosphere is super cute and old fashioned

This place is delightful. Our first visit, sitting at the bar, we were able to order a less expensive fare. The drinks are lovely. The bartender was fun.

In Crested Butte a have to stop; however, have a reservation! Service food atmosphere makes you feel you are in your families dinning room having food cooked with love for you! Be prepared for family style dinning with two courses and dessert. Full bar with amazing drinks! Each course allows for seconds or thirds… hahaha and you have to enjoy the amazing biscuits! Save room for the dessert! When we were there, chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich was a perfect closer! We had four in our party, and all of us tried fried chicken, AMAZING! You have the choice of a variety of entrees. When we go back it will be a mix of chicken and beef! Amazing for two o. That special night but also family friendly! Parking is a challenge. We would park at the visitor center, walk the shops, have dinner and walk the ice cream cookie off back to the car!

If you’re in Crested Butte and looking for an incredible dining experience, Slogar is a must-visit! This charming restaurant serves dinner family-style, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Tonight, we enjoyed their freshly prepared fried chicken, which was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The meal came with a variety of delicious sides, and the best part? The sides come with complimentary refills! We especially loved the rich and creamy creamed corn and the homemade biscuits, which were absolutely divine. Slogar is a popular spot, and for good reason! They do get busy, so we highly recommend making reservations in advance. From the friendly service to the comforting, home-cooked flavors, everything about our experience was top-notch. We can’t wait to come back!

Google
This place is great. The reservation is a must. The dinner is all you can eat sides and appetizers, but you must buy a protein from the available options. We bought the sampler platter and ohh my it was a ton of food for 2 people and 1 kids. We had two kids so needed to get one more kids meal. The food was excellent. The service was also very good, but for the price it better be expected. The fried chicken that is famous is absolutely worth it. It was spiced perfectly, very moist, and flavorful. The mashed potatoes and gravy side were also very good and I'd recommend it. The steak was ordered medium but came medium rare, luckily I like it like that too, but wife prefers it a bit more cooked. Besides the collard greens that my family doesn't like, there really isn't anything we did not like.

We ate here this evening to celebrate my birthday and the experience was truly premium. Great food. Great drinks. Great staff. Looking forward to many return visits, including during a Aspen to Crested Butte hike where i fixate on the need for a crapton of chow at some point on the trail. Thanks y'all ⛰️🍗

Yelp
Fun and cool atmosphere but even cooler folks working here. The food is incredibly delicious, we especially love the tomato chutney and cottage cheese to start with. The chicken is incredible and portions are family style. Don't skip on extra biscuits.

Yelp
I might be able to rate this a little higher but we have been coming here since they opened! I know things change over time, but a lot of the appetizers weren't as good as they used to be or the same. The fried chicken and dinner sides were good and we got plenty to eat. Didn't care for the dessert, I've had better ice cream sandwiches from a gas station. I wish they would look at the old menu and recipes a little more. The service was interesting they were there checking on us quite a bit but not our waitress, she disappeared for most of the meal. If things have to change I think it should be better food, not making it cheaper for profits. I definitely still love going to the old restaurant, brings back the old style family dining and heritage of the area. We will be back and do recommend it, just hope they keep things as authentic as they can!!

Yelp
Our favorite spot in CB. If it's just two people, there's a separate bar menu and you can usually get in right when they open. We've been 20+ times and flavors are always consistent and delicious. Service has been great too.

Yelp
Food was good, not great. Service was friendly and attentive. Dining area is pretty tight, but we were happy with the overall experience

Yelp
I was not impressed by the food and the waitress was rude. The other poor reviews I agree with. Whiskey sour from the bar was great if you must.

Kristi S.

Yelp
One of the best meals/experiences ever!! We got lucky and got a private little nook to dine in and it was such a great meal. Our server took great care of us and made sure we had more than everything we needed! Would absolutely recommend.

Yelp
My friends and I hiked West Maroon Pass and I was so excited to bring them here and experience Slogar for a celebratory dinner! We've been coming over the years and the one thing almost holding me back from a 5 star review was the price, based off memory, it has increased significantly. However, the restaurant reminds me almost exactly of a place we had in college back in Virginia called Homeplace. It was also brought to table, family style southern meal. I liked how the first course is at the table once we're seated - we were starving so loaded up on salad, cottage cheese, pickled (?) tomatoes so good, and coleslaw. One not necessary knock was they changed the salad - this was a Cajun Caesar style salad now where in the past it was more like a typical side salad with a light vinaigrette you could pour on yourself. Our server was also very attentive and brought the second course out quickly. The fried chicken was as good as I remembered, along with all the sides. Loved love the honey butter for the biscuits. The ice cream sandwiches at the end were new to me and a nice touch! We had enough leftovers of chicken and biscuits to stop on the way home and eat the remaining chicken for lunch. Fast Good ambience Good service

Yelp
Best fried chicken ever, loved all the sides, the biscuit were amazing. Real gravy (the roux was browned!) and super friendly people. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
To start off with the DL, go for the vibes and don't care about being bamboozled, you'll have a great time... it's like ordering a $20 hot dog on a ski mountain. The staff and everyone was wonderful, the real stars of the place. Now to the food. The starters were good, cottage cheese plus the chutney was the best out of the bunch. The corn, I'm almost sure is from a frozen bag, disappointing to got to a place like this and have them cut corners like that. The coleslaw was good too but after the corn, did I just get jarred coleslaw sauce??? We ended up getting the chicken and Mac and cheese since the server was nice enough not to make us get the sides again plus Mac and cheese. The chicken was perfectly done, nice an crispy but let's be honest, pay me $25 and you can come over to my house and I'll serve you Popeyes in a nice aesthetic on some vintage dishes and you'll get slightly better seasoning! Now to desert, can't go wrong with an ice cream sandwich.... Wait, is this a trader joe's ice cream sandwich place on a vintage plate? Okay, for $50, I'll prepare a Trader Joe's taster on some vintage plates.

Yelp
We saw on Yelp that Slogar had really good fried chicken. And who can pass that up? Well, this guy can't. Located about a block away from the main street, Slogar was somewhat easy and convenient to find. We made reservations prior and glad we did. This place was packed. We were visiting CB because of the Outer Bike event. And Slogar was one of the very few options that didn't have a long waiting list. Walking in, you would think that you were walking into a saloon. The front of the restaurant had an old school bar that could easily pass for a bar back in the cowboy days. The place was bigger than it looked, mainly because they also had outside seating which that was where we were sat. The inside seating looked and felt cramped. Being sat outside was definitely quieter and more spacious option. They kept a lot of the old school vibe which was awesome. Even the toilets had the chain to pull on when you flush. Overall the ambiance was fascinating and cool. Their menu style was a family style dining that you share with the people in your party. Their fried chicken was what brought all the boys to the yard. But they also have ribs, and steaks as other options. This was a 3 course family style meal and the prices vary depending on what items you order. Our first course, we were allowed to order 2 sides each. So we got the slaw, tomato chutney, Caesar salad, and the cottage cheese. All 4 sides were good and tasted fresh. Our 2nd course, they only had the fried chicken and the ribs available. The fried chicken was pretty good. Mois in the inside and crispy on the outside. You can definitely see why this was a crowd favorite. I felt this could have used a little more seasoning but that's just my preference. The ribs on the other hand were way overcooked. It was very dry, and hardly edible. Was very disappointing considering the price was way more than the chicken. I wish we would have just ordered 2 servings of the chicken. Our last dish was the dessert dish. We both got the Sammie and it was okay. It was too rich for my pallete and I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. Overall I feel like this was the wrong type or restaurant for me. I can see why this restaurant is popular to others but not for my pallete. The staff was a little slow but given how packed they were, I wouldn't fault them for that.

Yelp
Yes, the fried chicken really is that damn good. Being from the south, I was very skeptical but I have to say I am impressed! I ordered two cocktails and neither one was anything special. My highlights were the chicken, ribs, coleslaw, and biscuits. Would have loved a choice for dessert, but the cookie sandwich was good. Our server was prompt and friendly and this place has such a charm. A fun place to eat, and although not the most budget friendly meal - you kind of expect that from a charming mountain town restaurant!

Suzanne L.

Yelp
This is an experience, family style, with many sides. I have never ordered cottage cheese at a restaurant but this was good with the salsa. We ordered the combo meat dish, which said fed 2-3 people so had to order another main dish. The four of us were old enough to be on Medicare and couldn't possibly eat all the food we paid for. Since we were traveling we couldn't take leftover food with us. So much thrown away food. Such a waste. It was also very expensive. Won't be eating there again.

Yelp
We booked a 7-day ski trip to Crested Butte for the first time with some friends, one of which grew up close by and had been eating here since 2003. He stressed to us that this was one of the best places in town to eat so we decided to go. Here are my footnotes: 1) The menu system is overly complicated. There is a $19 mandatory cover just to sit down at a table, and three pieces of fried chicken / sides is listed at $38 - keep in mind this does not include %25 mandatory gratuity. Why not just have a rational and traditional ordering system with sides a la carte? 2) Our server was outright rude and lacked basic customer service skills; being way to blunt, non-explanatory, and even abrasive. 3) I asked to split fried chicken with my girlfriend, and was told that I couldn't.... I've NEVER been to a restaurant where I can't share my food. Little did we know the server poorly communicated the menu system and later found out that only ONE person can choose the $19 "only sides" option on the menu PER TABLE. Call this a cash grab? 4) I will say the food was slightly above average. The chicken was crispy, light, very juicy, and nearly grease free so that was nice, and the biscuits with gravy and mashed potatoes were good so I will give credit where it's due. 5) The venue, particularly the building was really neat as it was original built as a frontier pub during the 1890's - featuring unique styling that is truly reminiscent to something historic and special. Our friend who has been coming here since a child had not been in nearly a year and was completely shocked as to how far downhill this place had fallen since his last visit.

Yelp
Been going here since i was a kid. Came to CB last week and was excited to hit the restaurant. Walked in to be ignored for 15 minutes. We even sat at the bar and the bartender didnt event make eye contact. It wasn't that busy either. Went ahead and paid $40 per person for chicken with no flavor. Bottom line, place sucks. Hit the Secret Stash instead. Date attended: aug 29th.

Yelp
Amazing food. Make a reservation. I never thought I'd like cottage cheese and tomato chutney but it's delightful.

Yelp
Delicious chicken & side items! We love to stop at Slogar for dinner in CB. I've been eating there for years. A definite place to eat when visiting Colorado. Service was excellent and friendly. It has a quaint & casual atmosphere.

Yelp
I never thought fried chicken and souther fare would be the perfect apres ski meal but it absolutely was. Everything I tasted was great. We got the family meal and it was enough food for 3 adults and 2 kids + a next day lunch. I didn't love the cocktail I had, next time would stick to beer. Will be back for sure!

Kelsey D.

Yelp
Great food. Great staff. Great cocktails. Cool concept in an awesome building. It's a fun family style concept that is great soft something new and different.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 8 people and were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. When we got to the table, the 1st course was already set out for us. The waitress then took our drink order and we were able to look over the menu. The prices were honestly baffling. $47 per person for their fried chicken, or $22 per person for the sides only. $22 for a kids mac & cheese meal, or $19 for a kids fried chicken meal. They claimed that the sides were all you can eat, but once they brought the main course to our table, they did not approach us for at least 25 minutes to ask if we needed anything additional (including drink refills). The waitress did check on us from a distance multiple times, but she did not approach us. After requesting more sides, we had to wait over 10 minutes for them to be brought to the table. The portions for the sides were far smaller than a group of 8 should've received. While we were a large group, we were the only group seated in our section. I personally didn't care for anything in the 1st course, and the only thing I enjoyed from the main course were the mashed potatoes. Furthermore, the bathroom was very small and crowded. Definitely not handicapped accessible, and the floor was incredibly sticky considering they had only been open for an hour at the time.

Robert O.

Yelp
4 adult chicken dinners, 1 child chicken dinner, one steak for 2 children, 1bottle of $61 wine and 3 cocktails; $570!

Yelp
Slogar is a revered institution in CB. It is an old restaurant with a fixed three course menu located in a beautiful old house away from Elk Avenue. Everything was excellent; the hostess, the server and the food. What was upsetting was to read many reviews from uninformed 'privileged? ' guests who said it was overpriced, fast food at chicken places was better and cheaper (obviously!) and were unable to enjoy this local Crested Butte institution. For our party of four, all the food and service was superb. America needs more individual and restaurants like Slogar rather than more fast food chicken places serving buckets of cheap and tasteless stuff. Slogar is now run by owners who bought it from the family that created it. I hope that this CB institution lasts a long time as is brings back fond memories of the good old times.
google avatar

Angelica N.

Yelp
Bonus that this restaurant takes reservations as CB can get crowded around meal time. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. There was great people watching in the small bar filled with locals having fun. Family style meal only. Three courses starting with salad, cottage cheese, an interesting tomato chutney, one of the best cole slaws I've had, cinnamon pears and delicious biscuits with butter and jelly. That's a lot of food already!! We crushed the salad but most of the rest went to waste. Second course mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, fried chicken and the husband opted for the filet which he enjoyed. We both agreed that the chicken was good, not great. The rest was good, too, but no stand outs. I don't like dark meat and was only served one breast but was told you can't substitute. We skipped the dessert. Our waitress was lovely and on point. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a supper club so I liked it. Biggest complaint is the waste of food. Serve smaller portions with option for customers to request more if they are still hungry.

Yelp
Slogar is awesome! The fried chicken family meal was great! Service was friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We arrived for dinner last evening. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and had requested as quiet a table as possible via open table reservation. We were led to an outside location with picnic tables and simple benches . It was 62 degrees outside, had recently rained. We were told that this is all they had and we had asked for a private place! There were no people seated outside, obviously because it was a terrible place to be. We saw tables inside since outside location was an insulting joke for a nice dinner. We were told no inside tables were available since other people had reservations. Apparently our reservation made several days ahead didn't Matter, and they were simply using outside space that nobody else wanted. We obviously left the place and I'm still waiting for a call from the manager to address situation. It was quite surprising and disappointing, as we have been guests at The Slogar for the past 10 years. Silver lining is that we ended up at Almont Resort with a wonderful dinner and were treated very respectfully without a reservation. I suggest you skip The Slogar and head to Almont.

Dan F.

Yelp
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY!!!! if you are expecting great fried chicken and a great family style restaurant at a reasonable price like it was 3 years ago before new ownership changed eveything and doubled the prices. You will be VERY disappointed. My family and friends have dined at Slogars for last 30 years and the new owners have destroyed one of CB best family restaurants. Notwithstanding the menu changes and price gouging.... the place is disgustingly run down and filthy. We will never return.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
This place has been going down hill since the owner change. Don't waste your time getting the $100 chicken dinner. Truly nothing special here
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Had a reservation and they cancelled it because the chef at Soupcon got into a dispute with my husband over adding an additional person to our reservation. I guess they are sister restaurants and didn't even call to hear our side. If you look at other google reviews this seems to be a pattern and it's unfortunate that another restaurant in crested butte decided to leave a family of 6 with a newborn no place to eat. I have never dealt with such rude people and I'm in the service industry. I would never treat guests like this. A bad stain for the town of crested butte !
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
The biscuits are out of this world good. The sides as well. We had the fried chicken which had good flavor and was crispy. The service was great.
google avatar

Brian I.

Yelp
The inside of the restaurant is eclectic of the old mountain life. The chicken was very good the rest of the food was average at best. The ribs were very disappointing and I would recommend passing on them. Pricing is what you would expect for any resort town, super overpriced for what it is.

Carlos D.

Yelp
It is not worth the money. This restaurant It is certainly not what it used to be last time we came. We won't be coming back. The food and service does not justify the price.

Coco M.

Yelp
Food is pricey but it was so good! You have to get the max and cheese! We had fun. Would definitely return.

Cheryl G.

Yelp
Really good! Best pan fried chicken I have had in years. Fun environment as well, great service.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
We had an epic meal on the patio! The greeting, service, ambiance, and food were all 5 stars! We went for my brothers birthday celebration and the owner/hostess was fabulous to work with. She even took the time on a busy night to take my dad and I on a tour of the historical building and let us in on the all the previous owners and great stories of the past! Thank you all for the wonderful evening!
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
The dinner here is more of a fairytale than anything. This type of dining experience doesn't really exist anymore, especially in cities, so I found it to be quite the novelty. Beyond that, the food was delicious and came at a totally reasonable price point.
google avatar

Diane L.

Yelp
Holiday weekend so made reservations on Friday night. Food was delicious. We both had fried chicken, their specialty. Family style. Pretty simple service as it was on the table when we were seated. Nice staff. Will go every time we are here. Reasonable prices for all the food! Finger licking good!
google avatar

Anne-Marie S.

Yelp
This was a great spot with interesting decor and excellent bartender. The first course was delicious, as mentioned in other reviews, and chicken was fantastic. Dessert was lackluster -- a store-bought ice cream sandwich. Friendly service. Lots of leftovers. Not sure we would return but it was an experience and good value for quantity.
google avatar

Carole W.

Yelp
I finally tried Slogars, what a fun restaurant, with so much charm and cool atmosphere. Truly a Crested Butte gem with a great history. We all decided to try the famous fried chicken with all the sides. It's done family style, sharing a nice pickled tray of veggies and spiced pear, bowl of cottage cheese, chutney relish, delicious Cole slaw, warm biscuits and mashed potatoes and gravy. The fried chicken was so crispy, we all really enjoyed the dinner. I had a nice glass of wine the others had beers on tap. The whole dinner was super fun and delicious. Great spot to go with a group. The service is really exceptional, everyone there makes you feel welcome. I highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant! We got the fired chicken and the ribs. It is all family style. We thought the ribs were good but we thought the fried chicken was amazing. As on of the other reviewers said, come hungry. The food just seems to keep coming and coming and it was all really good. We will definitely be back to Slogar!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
On the 8th day, God made the Slogar and saw that it was good....and I do too. The BEST, BEST, BEST, BEST fried chicken and home style cooking that God has ever blessed this world with. Holy cow
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
This is the best fried chicken / biscuit I've eaten in my entire life! (and I'm from Alabama)

Sarah C.

Yelp
I have been eating at Slogar for 30 plus years. The new owners have made lots of changes since taking ownership. I would have to say that none of these changes have been for the positive. Baskets of silverware and napkins on the table make it look cheap. It's a far cry from the nice table settings of the past. The relish tray needs to include the pears and pickles. The new addition of salad is cheap and tasteless. Next ditch the Cajun gravy and bring back the cream gravy. The chicken has no flavor and the biscuits are lacking. Oh and I forgot the ice cream sandwich for dessert. If I wanted an ice cream sandwich for dessert I'd go to the grocery store afterwards. Sadly, after 30 plus years I will not be back!!!
google avatar

Alison B.

Yelp
This place does not disappoint. If you are looking for a family style dinner, with chic rustic decor, history, good food, and a full belly...look no further. And they take reservations, which I highly recommend you doing on Open Table. They never answer their phone from my experience so don't waste your time. You are served three courses. Their first all homemade course you can choose from their salad, cole slaw (amazing), poached candied pears (dessert), cottage cheese, and tomato chutney (yum). The second homemade course you can choose either fried chicken (favorite) or ribeye steak or pot pie or ribs with mashed potatoes, gravy, strawberry jam, pull apart perfectly biscuits (omg), and creamed corn (ehh). The third course is vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. I left so full of yum and it was a great rine with family. They do have a full bar and you can make substitutions at an additional cost. Our fried chicken meal was $25 per person , but I felt it was worth the experience and we only do this once a year. The ribeye and ribs coat more. Some things that would be nice to see adjusted: collard greens instead of creamed corn and fudge over the ice cream instead of chocolate syrup. Only negative, our waitress. She was not the friendliest or maybe it was a fake friendly...just not pleasant. She even gave me the are you serious/stupid stare when I was asking a question. But the rest of the staff was so helpful and nice. We will definately be back.

Yelp
Absolutely check this place out if you're looking for fried chicken, ribs or steak! This place is all you can eat, home style cooking. The service is great and the value is tremendous. We're from Seattle and were shocked when the bill came. There's no where in 100miles from where we live that you can get that much good food for small town prices. It's not McDonald's pricing but its also not McDonalds quality.

Ella S.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! And while looking at the menu it mag seem very expensive, I can promise you that you will have plenty of leftovers. When you order, you pick your protein and that determines your meal price, all the proteins come with lots of fantastic sides. You also have an option to do all sides for your meal, however everything is served family style, so if you and someone else both order chicken, it will be brought put on a platter for the whole group. The last time I went, I was with a group of 6, we did the barnyard platter, an order of chicken, an extra side of mac and cheese, and two just sides meals. We still ended up with enough food to make lunch for 4 out of it the next day. The service is good, and the restaurant has overall a very old fashioned feel to it. This is definitely a Crested Butte must-do!
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
Yum! Ayla and Ian made our night! We visited on New Years Eve and sat at the bar, service was perfect. So incredibly helpful with my allergies and Ian made sure I felt comfortable about everything I ordered, adjusting a couple items. High quality food and natural ingredients. Perfect way to end the year. Biscuit Daddy's for the win!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a Crested Butte classic! I had not been to The Slogar in 10+ years and returned a few weeks ago and it was exactly the same! Everything is served family style and is freshly made. My husband is a huge fan of fried chicken so we just had to go and it was everything I remember and more. The relish plate with homemade pickles, tomato chutney, spiced pears, slaw, cottage cheese was a perfect way to start. The fried chicken is served crispy and piping hot! The biscuits and flaky and warm and the homemade honey butter is divine melted inside one. The mashed potatoes and gravy and velvety and the creamed corn is simple but delicious. All the sides are refillable until your hearts desire! A single scoop of vanilla ice cream is the perfect end to a fabulous meal!

J L.

Yelp
First off, the food was just alright. Definitely not worth the price. I also did not like the fact that they told us we had to order based on the number of people we had in our party and based on the serving portion. It was my husband and I with our three little kids. We were forced to order food that fed 5 people. My kids don't eat that much! All in all, we walked out of there spending close to $300 with two bags full of leftover food. Something that could have costed us $20 at Popeyes and Popeyes tastes way better! The only cool thing about the place is the history of the building. I would not recommend this place at all! If so, be ready to spend a lot of money for dry chicken!

Yelp
Forget about it... not worth what they charge. parlor menu great but very tight space and when the herd comes your shit. They cram ''em in and could care less. Def. not worth the hassle. Care more about next than the customer seated. Don't waste your time or money, unless you're a tourist. No love for the local. Not the Slogar of past !
