We chose The Social Hub Amsterdam West for a long-term stay based on many positive experiences in the past. Unfortunately, this stay completely destroyed that trust.
During our stay, we encountered behavior and inconsistencies that are simply unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one that markets itself as a premium long-stay solution.
My husband was told by a staff member named Lexi that if he wanted fresh towels, he should wash them himself or pay €5 for new ones. This contradicts our previous long stays and information provided by other staff. When questioned, the explanation suddenly changed and towels were provided anyway. She didn't even apologize and just made a comment "They are just towels". When we told the manager this upon check-out she said that she might have thought that we are students but this isn't possible since my husband gave our room number.
Attempts to contact reception from a personal phone at the same day this Lexi repeatedly ignore the calls. The call was answered immediately when using our business number, then she tried to lie that she didn't speak to my husband. This raises serious concerns about how guest calls are handled and whether guests are selectively ignored.
I am pretty sure this happened because she was looking down on my husband who is Korean and doesn't speak English well.
Breakfast was another low point. We arrived at 10:20, well within breakfast hours, to find empty trays, no croissants, no eggs, barely any bread, and no effort to restock. To make matters worse, we found a hair in the yogurt. This is a basic hygiene failure.
We contacted the hotel directly to resolve these issues and received no response. That silence speaks volumes.
This was not a minor service lapse. It was a pattern of inconsistent information, poor communication, questionable hygiene standards, and unresolved financial matters. We canceled our extended stay as a direct result.
If you are considering this hotel for a long-term stay or short stay in general, be aware that policies appear to change without notice, basic service requests may be denied, and complaints may simply be ignored.
