An honest review of a long stay Tenant—
I am a student in Amsterdam and amongst the limited amount of housing, I found myself unfortunately signing a lease for 1650 euros per month from September through January. And while out of my budget I was happy to secure a bed.
That being said, The Social Hub is by far the worst living experience I’ve had three years in Amsterdam. Exuberant pricing, lacks transparency, and really takes advantage of (Long Term stays). That’s to say I’ve read reviews of short stays and yeah I can see why that would be okay…..
For 1650 and I’m guessing prices will rise as time goes on, a building that houses this many people should maintain credibility, and be transparent to people coming in. Besides the room being extremely small, they lack proper cleaning, mine contained mold, dirt and dust upon arrival, a friends of mine has marks and other questionable residues left on her walls. Communal kitchen are come as they are, honestly you either have respectful tenants and neighbors or expect dishes, food, and improper hygiene at that from humans in fridges, countertops and more.
To top it all off, the Rail House has extremely inconsistent hot water, I’m talking in excess of >20 days. While this might be expected to some degree (stuff happens) the lack of transparency and “Fixing it” is ridiculous. While I may not be a hot water boiler tech, at Some point something being fixed for 6 months, I question if you can really say that this is being fixed. For this many tenants it really become a nuisance and a blight on the stay, especially for the price. If you are like me and just need a roof over your head to study, so be it. If you can afford the time and effort to stay other places. Do not give TSH money.
Thank you for reading this.
Ps, one good thing is it’s next to a train station. 🚉
