The Sono Chicago

This bed and breakfast offers an exceptional experience! My room was large and had a very comfortable bed and a magnificent shower. I loved the massive TV and the streaming options it offered. In addition, the Continental breakfast was very good quality and the fact that it was included added to the value immensely. The hotel staff are super nice, welcoming, and accommodating as well. Something else that makes it stand out is that the parking is free and very convenient. Overall, Sono House is an excellent place to stay, a very good value, I'm glad that I chose it, and I highly recommend it to anyone staying in Chicago. I will be back 😁

Positive: Bed and Breakfast was a joy with a rooftop view of the entire city and sunset! Parking was easy, safe and free! Negative: The climate control in the room was not individually controlled but understood since its a " home" not a hotel!

The room is grossly misrepresented in the photos, as far as size. It's tiny! You are literally 4 feet from the door when you're in bed. Two normal adults cannot walk around without bumping into each other. The windows do not open for any air circulation. There are no chairs and nothing to sit on other than the bed. You have no choice but to sit with nothing to lean against or lay down. There are ample pillows but they are all flat. The bathroom is large, but the vanity is too small to hold any of your personal toiletries. The shower is large with a bench to sit on, but there is no where hang your wet towels. Most importantly, there is no climate control in the rooms. This is pointed out by other reviewers. We had to put towels on the air conditioning vents because it was too cool in our room. We called the front desk the first time to complain and the gentleman agreed to raise the temperature. That lasted about an hour before the cooling system kicked in again and we had the same problem. After calling a second time, the man offered to bring us vent covers, but at that point we were already undressed and ready for bed. The so called Continental breakfast was adequate but nothing that would merit the price paid for staying there. We spent over 400 dollars to sleep in a tiny room with our clothes on and eat frozen croissants from Costco Wholesale Club. This room is hardly suitable for for one person, and certainly not a good choice for a couple. Chicago is filled with much better choices at this price.

I had a delightful stay at The Sono Chicago in the Old Town neighborhood. The boutique feel and quiet tree‑lined street setting made it feel like a refuge in the city. The complimentary continental breakfast, rooftop terrace with city views, and free permit parking were all unexpected perks. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with modern amenities like walk‑in showers and Smart TVs. The staff were friendly and the location was excellent for exploring Chicago. Highly recommended for a relaxing urban stay.

I can't say anything but great things about this place: - Jose was amazing, good recommendations and he understood that we needed some help with the parking (we were moving so we needed a safe place where to leave the car packed with our stuff and we had no troubles at all). Communication was easy and smooth. We arrived after 8 pm and Jose came and helped us immediately. - breakfast is very good with a lot of different choices - the room is spacious, soft linen and everything is nice and tidy. The bed is super comfy - you are 4 minutes away from the main train station that gets you really quickly to downtown - quiet neighbourhood - amazing rooftop! I can't wait to go back to Chicago and stay here again!

What I liked:The common areas were well appointed and comfortable. All of the areas were very clean. These ease of checking in and out was nice. We received a parking permit for the car which was included in the price. It is street parking, not private parking so there is no guarantee of safety. Jose, the person we dealt with was very nice. What I disliked: For starters, this property is not 30 minutes away from either airport, even if you were arriving in the middle of the night. We usually stay at hotels when being in a city but this place looked so cute online. And it was even better in person! It is set in a quiet neighborhood which makes it really quaint. The rooms are perfect - big comfy bed, plenty of storage and a large walk in shower. The kitchen is brand new and has everything you need. There is a nice sitting area and a nice spot out back to sit and enjoy coffee and a snack. The hosts are super friendly, attentive and available anytime something is needed. We loved this B&B and will definitely come back!

The Sono is amazing. Four star only because I reserve a five star for the tip top best of the best. However, the value and location were supreme. The service from Jose was superior. Free parking was worth its weight in gold. We parked and used CPA all weekend. Super close to The Second City and Old Town bars/food. We loved it here and when we need to come back to Chicago, they will be on the short list.

Boy did I luck out! Booked this beautiful place based only on rating, price and its closeness to Steppenwolf. And because the Lincoln Hotel, where I've stayed previously, didn't have anything under $1000 (don't know why; maybe cause it was last minute.). Found it to be a beautiful B&B, rebuilt within the shell of a townhouse, on a quiet street near Old Town. Got the best room 301 in front with a balcony. Great view of the city toward Willis Tower. There are also decks in back and on the roof. It was so quiet I thought we must be the only ones there till we went down to the free continental breakfast and saw it was fully booked. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Travels a lot both for business and pleasure and normally don't stay in B'n'B's but this time my usual hotels where fully booked and I luckily decided to try The Sono. Turned out to be one of my best stays ever in Chicago (and there have been plenty...)! Perfect location with free street parking (!!!!), big, beautiful clean rooms, fantastic roof top, great breakfast, fun and helpful host!! I'll be back! Best regards/Oslo

We stayed Wednesday - Saturday and had the best stay. Addy and her staff keep the property immaculate and well stocked. it's tucked into a quiet neighborhood that is a 5 min walk to the L and a 15 min walk to Lincoln Park. We did the L from/to Midway so no hassle with parking a car. The room and bathroom was spacious, clean and beautiful. Many delicious options for breakfast. Fantastic rooftop terrace for night caps. Highly recommend!!

Stayed here last month and it was absolutely fantastic! When trying to find a hotel or location to stay when visiting family/friends it is always difficult and SUPER expensive. So in wanting to visit and not break the bank, my girlfriend and I wanted to try something new... a Bed & Breakfast. This turned out to be one of the best decisions ever! The Sono, ran by Tom and Kim, is an excellent, exceptionally clean, delightful venue. From the very large, open, and inviting community area designed as the kitchen and eating area with a couch and sitting area at the far end, the entire place was amazing. Even in the midst of winter in December, the views from the rooftop were stunning(can't wait to enjoy that in the summer months). We had a single king-size bed room, with a balcony and view of the city. Being on the third floor was a hike up the stairs but so worth it to enjoy the added views from thru the windows. Each room was keyed separately, similar to your own house, which gave a good sense/feeling of privacy and safety of our belongings. An excellent feeling of home, with the sense of a wonderfully ran hotel. The breakfast in the morning had a plethora of options, from yogurt and granola to toast to cereal to oatmeal, with coffee, juice, and tea for drinking options. Of course there is water as well. The only other thing I could have expected was hot breakfast as an option. Is there a suggestion box? Anytime we visit Chicago from here on forward, we will be making sure The Sono is available! This is a fabulous stay, located near transit. Very walkable neighborhood. The rooms were wonderful, nice big shower, and our room had a delightful view. We had a really nice time. The hosts were gracious. Highly recommend to everyone.

The Sono Chicago is a fantastic B&B and Joy and her assistant Meg add the perfect touch to make your stay exceed your expectations. Our group rented the entire B&B for the weekend and everyone agreed that the Sono left a lasting impression. I'll definitely book at the Sono the next time I'm in Chicago regardless of the occasion.

I've stayed in many different places in Chicago over the years, from high-end hotels to a not-so-high-end Holiday Inn Express, and The Sono is hands down my new favorite. It's inexpensive (with free street parking!), clean, well maintained, and in a nice quiet, residential neighborhood. Everyone there is extremely friendly and helpful, and overall it is just a very pleasant experience. My only caution would be to avoid booking a room in the basement, or else you'll be hearing lots of footsteps across the main floor in the morning as the other guests make their way to the excellent free breakfast.

This is my first ever B&B experience, and I must say I am floored by how utterly immaculate the premises are, how aesthetically appealing the rooms are, how professional and kind the hostess was! I cannot praise this place highly enough. Will be coming back for sure.

Perfect location, delightful neighborhood, lovely place. Kind of like a really upscale hostel! Easy access to mass transit, short walk to Old Towne and ALL the fun stuff there! Rooftop deck is great. Would definitely stay there again!

The Sono is an awesome Chicago experience. If you are looking for a great bed and breakfast that is at an amazing location , Sono is the place to be. The customer service from Joy was top notch. I will be back!

We just stayed there this weekend and haven't even unpacked yet! But my review couldn't wait. The Sono was like staying in a brand new house and was perfect! It is a perfect location in Old Town just a few blocks from Second City (a must if you're this close). Also the perfect location if you want close food / drink but don't want the constant hustle and bustle of the city. It is about a 2 mile walk to any main attraction (mag mile, Wrigley field etc). It's a quiet little neighborhood that also has easy access to the "L" (Chicago train system, 2 blocks away). Kim and Tom the owners were awesome!!!! Very accommodating and helpful. They went above and beyond to answer any questions and assist in making our vacation to Chicago an enjoyable one. Bed - 5 star TV - 5 star Location - 5 star Cleanliness - 5 star Breakfast - 5 star I think one of the under utilized features of the bed and breakfast is the roof top patio. Kim suggested we take advantage and we did. Awesome view at night time to enjoy a cocktail and take in the views of the city. We were 1st timers but won't be last timers! This place is a hidden gem! Free parking and breakfast. The place is immaculate. We live in Ohio and moved our daughter into Chicago for a job. What a nice surprise after a long drive. Thanks Tom and Kim.

WOW. I never want to stay anywhere else ever again. I wish I could take The Sono Chicago with me on vacation. Kim and Tom were so kind, helpful, and communicative. The place is spectacularly gorgeous. They were very accommodating to us leaving the car a bit earlier than we checked in, and providing us with vegan snacks and breakfast. And the room was a dream. I've never slept better. The shower was AWESOME. The weather was unseasonably warm and I was so glad to take advantage of the private porch in our room while I worked and sipped on my coffee in the AM. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. I can't wait to return!

This is THE best bed and breakfast! The decor is modern and rustic (just GORGEOUS!), the breakfast is healthy and delicious, and I cannot say enough nice things about Kim and Tom, the owners. They are both welcoming and unobtrusive, which creates a very comfortable atmosphere, because you are essentially sleeping in someone else's home that you (initially) do not know. Also neat is that The Sono attracts all types of guests, so you end up having interesting conversations (if you are that type) at breakfast. I also love that they give you parking passes with your stay, which is a HUGE savings when you stay in the city. My husband and I have been here 2-3 times and each time has been just wonderful! Highly, highly recommend!

Delightful Bed and Breakfast. We spent a few days at The Sono Chicago and could not be more impressed. The place is conveniently located, beautiful, VERY clean, well run, and the staff is especially friendly and accommodating. Joy and Fergus are so warm and welcoming. The bed is very high quality (we are snobs about mattresses). The breakfast is generous and the coffeecake by Lisa is especially made for The Sono and truly addictive. The Sono is our go to place in Chicago.

I want to stay at The Sono every time I visit Chicago! This place is beautiful, comfortable, and convenient to attractions and transportation alike. Tom and Kim are friendly and more than willing to accommodate. I was able to check out but also come back for my luggage later while I saw a few sites before my flight. My husband stayed here when he was in town recently, and he recommended I extend my trip to stay at The Sono. Oh, and you've got to check out the rooftop view!

My wife and I were looking forward to a retreat after an intense 2 weeks. I booked through a third party site and was given a room that did not look anything like I had expected to receive for the amount that I spent. My wife and I were placed in the basement unit, which was cold and small and lacked light. There was not a desk to work at if you are working remotely. I could hear the manager talking and the phone chiming through the wall. They said I should have gone on the Sono website to have checked this out. My biggest complaint, however, is meeting with the manager Joy about canceling a day and the possibly of switching rooms. A numbers game that was not favorable to me was played over and over with the costs - she was not able to be straightforward with the costs associated with various options. Joy said to me that we have never had anything like this happen before - like I was being unreasonable for asking what my options were. The main floor looked nice and the food was alright, it's just that something I had expected to be a retreat was such a let down to my wife and I.

The Sono Chicago is absolutely gorgeous! Stunning is a better word. Hosts Tom & Kim are wonderful! Our stay was perfect!! Very relaxing! Their knowledge of the public transportation and how to get around the city was incredible!! They gave us great tips of where to go and what to see and do. I want that kitchen - Amazing!! Breakfast was delicious & I think the best part was my hubby bringing it to me in bed!! The beds were so cozy, I didn't want to get up! The privacy of the room was so nice - couldn't hear other guests like in hotels. The security also was an added plus. Felt incredibly safe & ok to leave purse & shopping bags unattended in room. Kim & Tom were so accommodating - I forgot some hair product and when I asked where the closest drug store was Kim offered her own personal inventory. My hair rocked that day!! You know it's a great b&b when the owners themselves live on the property! Very high class! Can't wait to come back soon!!! Thanks for an awesome getaway!

Just stayed for a week at The Sono Chicago. Kim & Tom, the owners, are wonderful hosts, who know how to take care of their guests. The details are handled well, yet the overall vibe is relaxed and welcoming. The facilities are beautiful, fresh and clean. Excellent continental breakfast each morning. Conveniently close to the Sedgwick "L" train stop, but located on a quiet and nice residential street. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended. If we visit Chicago again, The Sono will be the place for us!

This place is incredible. We had a free weekend and wanted to take some time to relax and enjoy a comedy show at the nearby comedy clubs and I found Sono. We will not be staying anywhere else in Chicago. This place is incredible. Amazing suites and Tom was super nice and accommodating. The breakfast was very good and how everything is set up, you couldn't ask for a better experience. It is so close to everything in Old Town and Lincoln Park. The modern style is amazing and the views from the roof are incredible. Would highly recommend

My husband booked our stay at Sono and I am so pleased with his choice. It's a lovely B&B in a lovely neighborhood. Our room is luxurious and the bed makes me want to buy a new mattress as soon as I get home. The walk in shower is roomy enough for two. Breakfast was delicious with fresh baked croissants and great coffee. We ate our breakfast on the back terrace. The hosts were pleasant and attentive. I highly recommend a restful stay at Sono.

I highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone visiting Chicago. Tom and Kim are excellent hosts. We met guests from around the world and U.S. The B & B's interior decor is modern and reminds me of the quiet elegant homes featured in Architectural Digest. Our en suite bedroom is huge compared to hotel rooms in Lincoln Park and the Loop. We have an incredible view of the city from the third floor balcony. It's conveniently located close to downtown. It's less than two blocks from the Sedgwick Brown Line station and just a few blocks from the North/Clybourn Red Line station. It's also close to shops and restaurants located along North Ave west of Halsted and on Armitage/Halsted. I plan to stay here again the next time we visit Chicago.

Had a really nice weekend here. Andrea and Joy couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. We only wish we came during the summer to take advantage of that amazing roof top patio!

Great place to stay! Clean spacious rooms with a very nice bed and shower. Staff provides great service and makes you feel like home. Great breakfast and good location to visit downtown.

I stayed here and loved it. Mine was a last-minute booking and Kim, the owner (a married couple owns it) got me set up, even was able to check me in early per my request. The upside to a B&B is the personal touch, and The Sono totally came through. The location is great (just a mile or two north of the downtown area), the continental breakfast yummy, and the living room/kitchen welcoming. It has seven rooms and you can hear other people puttering around on occasion, but for the location, the price, and the experience of a home away from home (that's modern-style, not Victorian), I'll definitely go back there again.

The photos do not lie! This place is gorgeous! Great location and the hosts are fabulous. If you're looking to get out of downtown on your next trip and enjoy the beautiful neighborhoods of Chicago, this is your place! Easy access to the L, CTA and Ubers are plentiful.

Wow what a gem. DW and I stayed over Vday weekend and will definitely be back. Hosts/owners Tom and Kim are super welcoming and nice. Breakfast was delicious fresh fruit and scones. Room was wonderful, spotless, comfy bed and everything is brand new. One huge bonus is free street parking too.

I stayed here with my boyfriend this past weekend, it was wonderful! Tom and Kim were excellent hosts and so accommodating. They made us delicious breakfasts both mornings we were there and were extremely helpful if we needed any advice about Chicago. The location (Old Town) is wonderful and house itself is beautiful! They did an amazing job designing it! It feels as nice as a hotel but with a very homey vibe. Would definitely recommend it to friends, family, and anyone else visiting Chicago.
