The Sovereign Resort Hotel

I have stayed here 3 or 4 times the rooms are nice but over priced I can get a beautiful room in Cairns for less than the $269 they charge at the Sovereign in Cooktown. Went to the restaurant and sat at the bar, the girls just looked at myself and my husband and kept talking amongst themselves I had to to go over to them just to get served. We found them rude so decided to just go back to the room and order room service. Ordered the Coral trout on the menu in room which says it comes with salad (it did not have any salad just fish and chips) when we called to ask where the salad was they just hung up on us. Fish and chips no salad cost $34. Will not stay here again! The hotel needs to employ staff in their restaurant that actually have some sort of customer service experience because this was a very disappointing experience and now they have lost a return customer who will not recommend the hotel to travellers. I get a lot of people asking about accommodation in Cooktown I will not be recommending this place after the service we have received.

We booked a Deluxe Resort Room. Well sized bedroom, bathroom and living room. Upstairs with huge wrap around balcony.||There is some noise from the street but fortunately not at night. I think I would ask for a room facing the pool. These would be much quieter.||Reception was very helpful. The pool is beautiful and refreshing.||We ate dinner upstairs above the pup and the same for breakfast. Both meals were expensive, kind of slow but absolutely delicious. You can probably eat cheaper downstairs in the bar.||Wifi wasn’t great in the bedroom but ok everywhere else. Off street, open air parking was fine.||Cooktown is a great place to visit primarily because of the history. And I’d recommend the Sovereign Resort Hotel.

We went for dinner , had chicken schnitzel & veggies . The veggies were not at all cooked . The entertainment that night was so loud you couldn’t even think let alone talk to the person opposite . We asked for takeaway containers , took the food to recook the veg back at our accomodation. Then ended up throwing the lot in the bin , cause the whole experience was a downer and it was actually horrible food . Yuck The lady at the bar was very polite but had little concern for anything

Staff were lazy would not walk from one end of bar to other end 3 staff would rather talk to each other than work. I ordered of specials menu at 6.30 not available meal was sad showed no skill or talent so disappointed considering cost supposed to be best in town lol

Dined in the restaurant only and wow what an amazing meal and service. the food was top class taste and presentation and the ladies serving were friendly helpful and let us enjoy our meal on the upstairs balcony. Do not visit Cooktown without experience a meal here 5 stars *****

Absolute garbage. stopped for lunch , ordered 4 Barra burgers, turned up before we finished our beer. 3 were good and the one that I was served was crap - a sliver of fish and burnt crumb. I asked for a replacement, which was agreed. 15 minutes later everyone else was finished beers emptied. No burger. I inquired about how much longer it would be, a couple of minutes later I was presented with the same crap I had earlier, Only now it was cold. We wont be going anywhere near that outfit again while we are in town.

Supposedly the best accomodation in town, but couldn't possibly be classed as 4 star. Room was dark and musty, no door on the toilet or bathroom and could hear everything in the rooms either side. Bed was comfortable but thats the only positive.

I only had one night here but it was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable the pillows were perfectly soft and the bathroom was really nice. There is an actual mini bar with alcohol as well. Everything electrical worked and the balcony with a view over the pool and restaurant was gorgeous. I really loved this hotel and the room and amenities. I would definitely stay here again

Room was clean, looked nice, no chairs or couch in room, where there is room relatively small TV, most annoying part were the wooden blinds onto the balcony did not close properly and one of the blades were missing. I won't be happy if they charge full price in the morning They have free wifi, however the code had to be obtained from reception, to late when they're closed
