14 Best Spas in New York City, According to Our Wellness-Obsessed Editors | Condé Nast Traveler

"The newly added spa and fitness center are located on this iconic hotel’s hidden gem of a rooftop: panoramic view of the New York skyline spans from the Empire State Building to the Edge and peeks out from the wildflower garden populated with busy honey bees. This inspired framing of the city that never sleeps serves as the tranquil backdrop of the spa, which offers a traditional Swedish sauna, hot stone massages, and Reiki therapy. Treatment names like The Cure for those who swear, “I'm never drinking again,” pay further homage to the hotel’s frenzied past. The passionate youthfulness here and the spa’s holistic, restorative aura might seem like odd bedfellows, but the chemistry between the two enriches rather than contradicts the overall vibe of cool, refined, New York-ness. Even if you haven’t booked a stay, the spa also takes appointments from non-guests." - CNT Editors

How We Spent 24 Hours at New York City’s Hippest Stay: Hotel Chelsea

"A penthouse-level spa that opened in January 2024, perched with its own private garden sanctuary and offering both indoor seating by a fireplace and al fresco spots. Guests can use the sauna and book treatment rooms with city views and a clawfoot tub; a signature treatment called “The Cure” includes a 15-minute soak and is marketed for those seeking a restorative reset."

A friend from out-of-town treated me to a facial here. The staff was very helpful and kind. Ebony goes above and beyond to keep the spa stocked and immaculate and to help the guests feel comfortable. Just a few suggestions to improve the experience: A sheer partial canopy over the terrace would provide rain and sun protection to allow for more usage. Essential oils would be nice in the steam and sauna. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided are mediocre, so I would recommend bringing your own. Finally, the facial was lovely, but I would prefer background music without vocals because I find it distracting. My favorite part of the whole experience was being in the penthouse of the famous Chelsea Hotel and doing the art walk down the stairs on the way out. Even though I have lived around the corner for >20 years, I still love the Chelsea Hotel and am very pleased that the restoration preserved it’s beauty.

From the moment I connected with Donald via email, I felt genuinely cared for. His communication was so thoughtful and clear, it felt as if we’d spoken face to face. Upon arriving at the spa, I was warmly welcomed into a space that radiated quiet elegance, charm, serenity and one beautifully appointed. The atmosphere alone invites you to exhale. Donald performed my massage with skill and attentiveness. He was fully present, kind, and intentional in his approach. I felt truly supported throughout. Lina, who did my facial, was equally wonderful. She was knowledgeable, gentle, and engaging. Both Donald and Lina created an experience that was restorative and memorable. I would absolutely return to see them again. That said, I did encounter a moment of confusion regarding payment options, which were initially communicated inaccurately. Additionally, one staff member’s clipped and distant demeanor stood out in contrast to the warmth I experienced elsewhere. While brief, that interaction had the potential to dampen the anticipation I’d felt leading up to my visit. Fortunately, the care and excellence of Donald and Lina more than restored the tone of the experience.

I came to the Spa at Hotel Chelsea specifically seeking a session with John and my time there did not disappoint! Sessions with John are exactly what you need to bring balance and clarity. While there I decided to make a day of it. The staff made sure I would have a truly great experience, scheduling my sessions with enough time to enjoy the facilities (which are a treat of their own). The massage set me in just the right mood to receive John’s gifts. Every product used was both grounded and indulgent. And the hotel itself is a character in itself, steeped in NYC iconic history. I left my time in NYC renewed and with clarity of purpose. Thank you John for curating a wonderful healing experience ✨

John came recommended to me by a friend several months ago while I was recovering from a month-long hospital stay that left me depleted, depressed and anxious. I’d never experienced energy work, but I thought, “What do I have to lose?” From the jump, John made me feel welcome. He asked about my knowledge level around energy healing (none), took time to explain the session process and urged me to be open to whatever happened. The experience was instantly calming and energizing all at once. His use of stones, incense, chanting, breath work and light touch were hypnotic and took me to another place. When the session was complete, he took time to check in on what I had experienced. My color came back, I sat up stronger, I was talking more like myself. I’ve since seen him four times and each experience has been slightly different as he’s customized the session based on what my needs were that day. Whether you’re familiar with energy work, not new to the process, I’d urge you to give John a try.

While staying at the hotel I was able to schedule a somatic appointment with John Wingflower. I was not sure what to expect, but went in with an open mind. It was incredible. I left with a huge sense of peace and release. I was able to let go of a great deal of weight I have been carrying in my body. I would highly recommend John’s services.

I have had the pleasure of going to the Spa at the Hotel Chelsea a few times and every single time it has been by far the best experience consistently! The space has a calming, luxurious, and nurturing energy and everyone you encounter beams which I why I find it is by far the best way for me to recharge. During one of my last visits, I was having a major self care day after a crazy work week and the manager set up the most beautiful tray of treats with a handwritten note for me in the locker room for me. Brought me to tears! I highly recommend as you will be taken care of with the utmost care.

After a retreat weekend at The Spa at Hotel Chelsea, I left feeling renewed, reset, and aligned. John Wing Flowers’ Equilibrio treatment is truly amazing—his somatic healing work transforms on every level: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. His natural gift of healing left me feeling lighter, calm, and whole.

Working with John Wing Flower has been such a gift. His ability to presence and help ground me through some very frustrating experiences has truly helped me live my best life. The Equilibrio treatment is a balm for my soul and I leave the session feeling elevated and as if the load has been lightened, in a lasting way. Absolutely recommend you work with him if you can, give yourself some grace and space afterwards to assimilate the new frequencies. Prepare to be elevated.
