The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House

Highlights: warm outdoor mineral spa, lounge area overlooking woods, coed lounge area with large fireplace I have been to the spa at Mohonk several times. You feel pampered by all staff from the moment you walk in, from front desk to those picking up towels. Though I can’t remember the names of those that provided the services. I would rate them as follows. Massage: 4⭐️- friendly staff, massage did not target trouble areas, it was very soft and relaxing not the type of massage I scheduled. This service may not be worth it for the price Facial: 4⭐️- friendly staff, superficial, very basic facial for the price Manicure: 3⭐️- I’ve had several here and the staff is extremely friendly, but if they do not cover entire nail with base coat many times polish has chipped before I leave. Quite expensive for chipped nails. However, the amenities at the spa make it worth it: Eucalyptus infused steam room is amazing Loose leaf tea bar Tea and cookie time Mineral pool Lounging areas Access to property for hikes All in all spa facility 5⭐️, treatments 3-4⭐️

I got a Swedish massage at Mohonk and it was lovely! I’ve never felt so relaxed. My massage therapist, Shiloh, was fantastic. I highly recommend the spa at Mohonk Mountain House if you’re looking for a relaxing and luxurious experience!

I truly enjoyed my spa experience at Mohonk. I booked a Swedish massage and was encouraged by the staff to arrive early so I could move at my own pace and fully immerse myself in everything the spa has to offer—not just the treatment. I followed their advice, and I’m so glad I did. Mohonk’s spa experience absolutely did not disappoint. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and guided through how everything works, which was such a relief—there’s so much available that it could feel a bit overwhelming for a first-timer. Ashley gave me a thoughtful walkthrough, showed me how the lockers worked, and made sure I knew how to take full advantage of the space. That level of care and attention made me feel looked after right from the start. Once I slipped into my cozy robe and Mohonk slippers, I headed to the mineral pool. It had just snowed, so the combination of the pool’s warm water and the snowy backdrop was truly magical. I visited the sauna and steam room, then relaxed on the women’s veranda before my massage. The Swedish massage itself was absolutely incredible. My massage therapist—Rob or Ron (his name escapes me!)—was so attentive and thorough. He asked about areas of tension and made sure the pressure was just right, which I appreciated deeply. Even the head and scalp massage was so relaxing—it was a full-body release that I didn’t even realize I needed. I left the treatment feeling completely rejuvenated. Right after the massage, I was given a cool, vanilla-infused chamomile tea—it was incredibly refreshing, like a soft, floral water—and a lovely snack to go with it. That small touch made the experience feel even more luxurious and thoughtful. I also finally had time to read a book I’d been meaning to get to, and even took a restful nap. It felt so peaceful, unhurried, and nourishing. Afterward, I returned to the steam room, then took a glorious shower, followed by more time in the sauna to unwind even further. From there, I headed to the tea bar and enjoyed another warm cup of tea while sinking into one of the plush recliners on the women’s veranda (they have separate verandas for men and women, which is a lovely touch). Later, I moved to the large co-ed relaxation room with stunning views—perfect for quiet reflection. The entire spa experience is designed to help you slow down and fully fall into self-care. If that’s your goal, I couldn’t recommend this spa more. 10/10—you’ll leave feeling like a new person.

Very rude. Tried to make an appointment as a day guest and they wouldn’t let me because I wasn’t staying overnight and apparently overnight guests are a bigger priority. They then said I could try calling the day before to see if there’s a spot open. This was planned for a birthday, am I supposed to just hope they have room and then I have to figure out new plans last min if they don’t? Their website says to book 2-3 weeks in advance and I called 3 weeks in advance and yet I was told I called too soon and should call back a day before. You should put on your website that it’s overnight guests only if that’s the case.

It’s really overpriced for what you get. The spa treatment wasn’t bad but also wasn’t worth that much money. I got a body scrub. After the scrubbing part I was supposed to rinse off the scrub but the hot water in the shower wasn’t working. By the time I got it to work, it was already time for the next part of the treatment. But because I wasn’t ready yet, so it took away time from the actual treatment. Anyway, there are really good places in NYC near where I live and also in that area for almost half the price. There is only one sauna and one steam room, separated by genders. There is a small hot tub too and a few waiting areas with teas and water and a view of the mountains. None of these (or other different sauna, hot tub, or steam room) is accessible to anyone staying at the hotel overnight, nightly rate for which is around $1000 or more. They are only accessible the day you have a spa appointment. They make it sound like that’s a great deal but almost every spa will give you access to their amenities if you have an appointment and no one can physically without risking severe health consequences spend the whole day in a sauna, steam room or a hot tub. So while they make it seem like you are getting a lot, you really aren’t. You are just getting a highly overpriced massage or treatment.

Buyer beware I scheduled a treatment including massage of hands, feet, scalp and face for $245.00 for 60 mins for my husband and I for his 60 th birthday. I am a licensed Massage Therapist of 29 years. We thought we would splurge for this special occasion. It was the worst treatment/massage I’ve ever received apparently by a lay person. No pressure, none of the body parts were touched in their entirety, palms only, arches only, scalp near forehead only. After our treatments and reconvening with my husband, it was obvious his experience was completely different than mine. He said pressure was firm, whole hand including fingers and full arm and legs were massaged and entire foot along with his entire scalp. When asked by staff how my treatment was, I expressed my dissatisfaction and a misrepresentation of the service described and what I received. They proceeded to get the spa manager. After expressing my disgust over the lack of treatment, apparent inexperience of the person delivering the treatment, inconsistencies and lack there of in the treatment, I was told the service was not given by LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPISTS BUT BY “BODY TREATMENT SPECIALISTS” or cosmetologists!! I was shocked and said I would have never scheduled a massage or body treatment of any kind with someone other than a Licensed Massage Therapist!! Massage should not be given by anyone other than a massage therapist. She expressed how the description could be misleading and offered me a 20 % discount on my service. It ruined our weekend!!! I was so looking forward to it, being a massage therapist. A service priced as expensive as $245.00 better be performed by a licensed massage therapist with experience!!

An amazing (for us, very occasional) treat. Beautiful facility, wonderful staff, a perfect day for a special occasion.

Close to the city... looks VERY luxurious, and gets your girlfriend to stop requesting to see the fall foliage. Seems like a resort, prices are high -- maybe that means this is it, right? The mohonk mountain house is a Cancun-style all-inclusive, a home-base for adventure, a beautiful 1800's victorian mansion, and set on a lake with small boats and fishing. 1. Cost/value If you care about this at all, go to new paltz, get an airbnb and get a daypass for hiking. Room rates often exceed 1-2k a night, which parries the likes of the Ritz carlton. That's not what this is. Do not expect luxury. 2. The food The food is dining hall food from college. Overall, it is generously oversalted and largely disgusting. You will find yourself holding tea and coffee frequently to avoid it. Service is generally terrible, as gratuity is "included" in the overnight rate. We waited 90 minutes to be served bread and a personal pizza at "Founders". Overall disappointed with the food, which absolutely did not amount to more than $50pp/day, with room rates at this price. A $400 cancun all inclusive certainly has better food and alcohol. (Alcohol basically isn't included anywhere). 3. The activities The free activities are cool/cute. Definitely not entertaining for more than 2-3 hours a day. If you plan on entertaining your family with stuff to do from the resort, you will mostly find yourself eating (which, see 2, is a huge let down). They had some cute themed stuff for halloween for the kids which I appreciated, but most activities seemed to be aged for kids under 13 or adults over 65. Nothing really for couples or friends on a trip, for more than 2 hr a day. Some cooler activities all book up ahead of time, so make sure to answer their emails. 4. The views A+. Seriously beautiful, this is what you're paying for. We got a room on the 0'th floor however that looked at the parking lot. Tough sh*t for us. Many rooms have no view at all on the bottom floor. Book early if you're going to come here to avoid this. Overall... mid experience. Get an airbnb in new paltz, eat better food, and drive around. This place would be cool for a family needing to entertain small kids or a reunion for old people, but any millenials prob don't bother with this. Way better ways to light 5 grand on fire. Hope this is helpful!

This is such a unique property. I was only there a couple of hours for a work meeting and everyone I interacted with were very nice. I for sure would like to come back and take advantage of this stunning place. There is a gate you have to go through to enter and you're not allowed on property unless you are a guest there.

I'll start with the positives: three stars for the beautiful mountain view and attentive service. The hot, crusty bread was a great start, and my onion soup was enjoyable. However, the rest of the meal would only get two stars. The New York sirloin steak was on the dry side, and the seafood squid ink pasta with crab meat was more about the pasta than the seafood. Considering the price they charge for a three-course dinner, it just wasn't worth the trip.

My family booked a week-long stay for somewhat of a family reunion, and while I was initially skeptical of the property due to a few reviews, I'm happy to report that the mid ratings were absolutely unfounded. The place is amazing, and the amount of activities to enjoy are mind-boggling. The staff is wonderfully accommodating, and the building and grounds are well maintained. Vintage but nicely updated. My Room: Lake view king on the 5th floor. Immediately upon entering I could smell the wood burning fireplace, and while turned off by the smell initially it became quite charming and defined the stay. I miss that smell already. Sort of campfire and coffee. The room was icy cold for a hot July day but I shut off the A/C for the entire stay, opened the solid door to the patio revealing a screened door, and kept the fresh air flowing day and night. The luxury of sleeping with fresh air flowing through the screen, the ceiling fan on low, and a completely silent lake was just heaven. Bed was super comfortable. Lakeview Breakfast: Perfect way to start the day with fresh local yogurt, berries and house made granola. You'll feel great for that morning walk/hike. One suggestion, while I was informed to bring a water bottle as every floor has a filtered water station, I wish it had been suggested to bring an insulated coffee bottle. The coffee, while drinkable, is not super hot, and if you fill one of their paper cups and sit outside or take it to your room, it's now barely warm. There are no reusable mugs available either, so if you want hot coffee from Lakeside, bring your own double walled cup or thermos. Dining: Founders is fantastic and more intimate, make those reservations well in advance. Servers are super kind but beware, the food can take a very long time to come out. Sometimes over an hour per course. The drawback besides only being open on certain days, is that the menu never changes. Main dining rotates between three main menus which is nice and always varies a bit. Everything I ate, no matter the venue, was fantastically delicious. There are so many choices at every meal, and the presentation of each dish is surprisingly good. Granary is so much fun for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was rather limited but the lunch and dinner was awesome. Needless to say I ate a LOT on this trip, and all of it was delicious. Enjoy yourself because between walks/hikes, using the stairs, walking the property, you will definitely get your steps in. Activities: So many hiking trails, but make the walk around the lake your first, then you can expand from there. Definitely try the Labyrinth rock scramble, it's challenging. I love swimming and I never went to the pool, the outdoor beach and diving board are so much fun, and 100% do the lake swim, where for an hour window a couple times a day you can leave the beach area for a swim to a designated rock across the lake and back. The lake water is very clear and I never left smelling like a lake. I also loved paddle boarding and kayaking. In summary, the place offers breathtaking natural beauty, a super cool historic hotel, and hardworking staff. I love that it's mostly all-inclusive and that there is no tipping, even at the spa. I can't wait to return.

Mohonk Mountain House isn't a luxury experience, starting at $900 a night, but dangerous and prohibitively expensive, anything but relaxing! I hated it. Mohonk Mountain House carries serious safety concerns: hiking trails and lookouts are steep with minimal, very old-time wooden stairs and backings, which are absolutely unsecured, and downright terrifying! Even driving there on a narrow, winding road, no guardrails, I felt a great sense of unease of falling off the side of a mountain cliff at any moment. "Voted the #1 Resort in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic by Condé Nast Traveler and cited as a 4-Star Hotel," Mohonk Mountain House is more like a genuinely unimpressive, unappealing, and shamefully shoddy, decrepit interiors and worst architecture, "award-winning" torture. Mohonk Mountain House's also untrue farm-to-table dining is disappointingly mediocre, almost as bad as its unjustified, excessive prices, and left me hangry. I'm skeptical of all its good reviews and recommendations, and hope to dispute Mohonk Mountain House's unsustainable, stellar reputation that it doesn't live up to!

Gorgeous property! There are a good variety of things to do. There is a path all the way around the lake, it was a very easy sub-30 min walk. We did archery as well and the instructor was very fun and detailed. The food was actually decent, with lots of good dessert options.

Mohonk's guest relations manager Brian, had such an egregiously low EQ and atrocious attitude that it is simply appalling he works in hospitality. My family and I have visited Mohonk before and always had a wonderful time. It was for this reason that my brother chose to plan his surprise proposal there for his girlfriend. On the day of 5/19, we had explicit instructions to meet Diane at noon to walk through the path, 90 minutes before the surprise was supposed to take place. However, when we showed up at 12 sharp, no one could find her. Alec Golden, a nearby employee, helped us look for her for 17 min. After 27 min, it was communicated that Diane would no longer be available for us, AT ALL. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I've now learned Mohonk operates under this motto. Hearing the news on Diane not showing up and that no one else had any of the notes my brother worked on with Regina, my dad asked to talk to the manager. Brian from the very beginning trudged his feet on the floor, looking acutely annoyed as if he would rather be any other place in the world than with us, even before anyone spoke a single word. My dad tried to explain the situation and communicate how upsetting this entire thing has been on supposedly one of the happiest family days, and Brian would not even listen, just kept interrupting my dad to haphazardly say "ok so how can I help" like a painful and overpriced broken record. My dad again tried to start from the beginning, and Brian switched his nauseating loop to say " so it's only a couple minutes past, what's the problem? Diane has very important guests that she had to tend to " which means to me that (1) somehow 30 minutes has become "a couple", (2) my time is not valued and (3) we are not "important guests". Then he looped back to "OK so, how can I help" This is unacceptable for 2 reasons. 1. You don't ask a customer how to solve the problem that you caused; you bring your expertise to the table and you debug. 2. As a manager, you take responsibility for your team's mistakes. Artificial apologies without fixed behavior is called manipulation. "I'm sorry BUT" is called an excuse. - In the hospitality industry, I expected a very basic minimum bar be not only reached, but surpassed. With Brian, there was 0 heart, accountability for his job, integrity, collaboration, or basic human kindness. On top of all this, Brian never made eye contact with either of my parents or expressed any sort of genuine remorse for putting us through this ordeal, and then when my mom was in the middle of her sentence, he started walking away. I even tried smoothing things out to tell him "hey, this is a really stressful situation, I'm sorry if my parents voices are raised but you have to understand how big of a day this is for us, and we don't want to ruin my brother's surprise by being on the hiking path when they check in". I know with 100% certainty that I held a respectful tone, and level volume. Even then, it did not change his aggravated and extremely rude demeanor. Alec who ironically is relatively new working at Mohonk, was the only one that showed empathy. Understanding how stressed and upset everyone was, he sprung into action, becoming the singular reason the proposal was saved. He read the documentation my brother sent us, quickly got up to speed, and physically walked with us to the path identifying new hiding spots to optimize around viewpoints and consideration for my mom and my brother's girlfriend's mom being in their 60s. HE was the epitome of care, de-escalation, proactivity, and execution that I would've expected Mohonk to employ as a gold standard, the shining light of the day. It is frustrating and absolutely heartbreaking to see my parents be bullied by such a small, ignorant man as Brian, who is supposedly representing a venue as nice as Mohonk. I sincerely hope Mohonk deeply reflects on its identity to evaluate the quality of service they provide. 1 poisonous individual is the most infectious virus, as the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

very fun place to day trip from nyc! came here for brunch and explored the area around the resort of the rest of the day. brunch is buffet style and delicious. there wasn't a single item I tried and did not like. would definitely come back to dine again. the price tag was a little steep ($150), but it was a great experience. the view from the dining hall was amazing--an overlook of the entire mountain. the hike itself was fun. I did the labyrinth trail and it was one of the most fun hikes I've done. it was all rock scrambles and at one point you climb out of a rock crevice. the hike itself almost felt like bouldering at points. the view on top was absolutely amazing too. I would love to stay at this hotel one day.

I'm really trying to understand the appeal here? After 1 day there is really not much to do. We felt like we booked a family get away to a geriatric home. Many people sitting around reading, drinking tea & there were a few folks in front of the fire place snoring. As for the "cuisine"....it is at best mediocre. The same options are available at any hotel for breakfast. The dinner is ehhhh. description's ate more appealing than the actual food. Servings are quite small for a hungry adult. At a cost of $50 pp that's really disappointing. We traveled with young children whom in no way were consuming $50 in food cost per meal. So in that sense it's really an inflated expense for ehhh meals. To sum it up, Mohonk is a high end old age home with a nice view.

Very expensive brunch with less that mediocre offerings. We paid 150 per person for not much. I'll pay for quality. Minimal carving station (only beef, should have had turkey and ham. Only boring shrimp. Should have had oysters and more. Salads were ordinary. Property is beautiful and we should have eaten in the pub. Food looked better! Will give Mohonk another chance but not the brunch!

Unsurpassed!!! So yes, it's expensive but you get what you pay for. The grounds are stunning and the food is to die for. We also had some spa services which were out of this world. Cannot recommend high enough!!

Go for the massage, stay for the burger! Kid you not, the burger they make at The Carriage House is the most perfectly-charred classic burger I've had (and I'm burger-obsessed). We came for just the day and got two massages, hung out in the mineral pool, sauna, steam room, and got a la carte lunch at The Carriage House (since the lunch buffet for non-guests is astronomical, literally $270 per person). The burger and the views and mineral pool were the best part. The whole place is so cozy and epic, classic and charming, full of families just relaxing around with books and games for hours - really adorable. Too bad it's so expensive to stay here, but glad we got to spend the day. It's so much more affordable and almost the same experience. We explored New Paltz after and had such a full, fun day. Will be back in the spring for hiking. 5 stars!!!

The good: amazing views, relaxing feel. Top notch service from everyone. Tons of outdoor activities. A lot of fun activities during garden week (terrarium making, flower arranging). The rooms are clean and well maintained. Spa is wonderful and so relaxing. Workout center is well equipped and quiet. The ok: The facilities are clean and well maintained but it is dated. I like this though, it feels like it's a supposed to be this way. Very classic. No TV or music The bad: food and dining experience is inconsistent. Some food has no taste, some is not warm. Some is delicious. The granary food which is barbecue was consistently good but only open on Tues and Thursday. Breakfast in the main dining hall was generally good and lunch in the main dining room was hit or miss. Also the pool was closed. We looked through emails and couldn't find where this was stated. We found out from overhearing another guest. Finally this is expensive- but overall it does feel worth it. Kids were happy, wife was happy, we want to go back but do hope they work out the food issues.

I learned about Mohonk Mountain House preserve years ago in 1990s its been over 20 yrs since I finally made it here. Welcome to celebrate family birthdays. Great place for friends, couples, families, and everyone. Many activities for all ages. Or chill out and enjoy the serene gifts of nature.

Lemme preface this review: ya girl balls on a major budget. I truly hope one day I'll be able to afford an actual overnight stay here because it's absolutely on my bucket list. It if you're like me, and are in need of a change of scenery, some R&R, and a quick little day trip - this is just the spot. An easy two-hour ride from LI. I got the spa daycation pass which included a spa service, two-course meal at the carriage house (serving sizes are MASSIVE and they can't store leftovers and since I didn't have a room with a fridge to keep things cold, I had to leave half my lunch which was a bummer because the pizza was delish, so if you're traveling solo like me - keep that in mind), access to the spa (sauna, steam room, pool, and outdoor mineral spa - aka hot tub), and the ability to hike the grounds. I was also able to grab some complimentary coffee and breakfast in the Lake Lounge upon arrival. The spa opens at 8, so I got there right at that time even though my service wasn't until 1:30 (which changed to 4:30 because someone called out) - so that I could enjoy all the amenities. You're given a locker, slippers, and robe for the spa/pool and can come & go as you please in that area. Jen and Tiffany in the spa were fabulous. Tiffany did my winter warp wrap and it was so luxurious and a little bit of everything! Mohonk - if you're reading this and ever want to gift someone who would absolutely appreciate an overnight stay, I'll gladly accept! ;-)

I am having my ashes thrown in this beautiful lake & place when I am going to the afterlife ( been there many times over 40 years)

Exceptionally beautiful location; old style remote hotel; great food. Highly recommended!

Just left a work meeting here. This is a very old hotel that doesn't have a TV or phone in the room. For $800/night, i had much higher expectations. The only redeeming thing was the food. Otherwise, I'll pass on ever returning. The old plumbing and radiator woke me up at 2:30AM due to the noise. Also, imagine my disgust when I stepped in the shower and saw these underwear hanging of a prior guest. Guest relations merely shrugged and apologized without offering any restitution.

I planned a spa treatment birthday celebration for my granddaughter. it included her, her mom, her aunt and myself. 3 miles from our arrival I got a message saying my service was cancelled. the manager said she tried calling other folks to replace the sick masseuse to no avail. I was allowed to " meander" around the spa while everyone else was having a treatment. I " meandered" alone for two hours. I know " stuff" happens but I was treated horribly and virtually left ignored. trust me - there are much nicer spas who actually care for their customers.

This place is amazing! Everything about it was really nice, high quality, great service, incredible food, fun activities-we will be back!

Came here with high expectations and was completely let down. 3 night stay The pros. Nice location, plenty of hiking trails and outdoor life. Rooms were nice, spa was great and fitness room was better than most hotels. The cons: food was subpar. Every dinner came out cold, no flavor. The advertised BBQ was terrible. Ribs werent cooked, soda machines didnt work they were out of the syrup. Bathrooms were flooded at bbq as well. But the worst part was all the staff except for the spa and fitness people were rude. Upon leaving we asked 4 times for a bell clerk to get our bags. They all said yes. 30 min later went to the bell captain he didnt even have us on the list but said he'd send some one up. After waiting we finally went and got our own bags For the price it wasnt worth it

We had a perfect weekend away at the Mohonk Mountain House! The staff were very friendly and everything was very well organized for such a busy place. It snowed while we were there so we got to take advantage of lots of winter activities like snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating and snow tubing. The food was delicious, high quality and plentiful. We spent a morning at the spa which was fantastic, a little pricey but the massage was great and the environment was very relaxing. The hotel is beautiful with an old timey charm, lots of areas to sit and read a book by the fire. I hope to be back for another visit soon!

Been here multiple times and has always been a great experience. Amazing hiking trails with my favorite being the rock scramble. Meals are always delicious and with a great variety of options. On my most recent visit tea and afternoon cookies also had a wonderful hot apple cider which I'm guessing is a nice autumn seasonal treat. Massages at the spa are incredibly relaxing and feel like an entirely separate resort. Would recommend to everyone! If you are hesitant to spend hundreds on an overnight stay I would recommend first trying a hiking day pass or getting a massage at the spa which would then include access to the grounds.

Who couldn't possibly love Mohonk? I've loved Mohonk since my first day visit in 2003 and will keep visiting to my dying days, lol. I'm disappointed (tho not too surprised) to see some of the White Lotus vibes in the reviews. I wanted to call out some of these: 1 - Food/coffee and cleaning services are definitely included with your stay cost. 2 - Some of the servers don't speak English as a first language, but we never experienced a communication barrier as others complained about. Highlights + Gratuity is included with most costs, including valet, spa, food service, housekeeping. More hotels should do this! + Most of the food was great. I'd say breakfast and dinner meals outshined lunch. + Curated activities! They have a schedule of different activities every day, ranging from Mohonk history talks, live animal showings, archery, guided hikes, etc. + Most of the rooms come with a balcony with rocking chairs and a gorgeous view no matter where you are + Hikes, natural beauty. So easy to get your steps in here. + The! Massages! Ahhh! I got a maternity massage and was so sad when it was over. Lowlights - The walls are very thin and you can hear almost everything from your neighbor's plumbing to any conversation down the hallway - Not really the hotel's fault - but more of an FYI if you're a POC: the diversity makeup of the guests is noticeably skewed. Mostly (loud and friendly) white people. I think I saw maybe 3 other minority groups during our stay.

This place is dangerous. I can tell you from personal experience. I returned to Mohonk this past weekend, after 42 years. When I was 7, in 1980, I visited this resort. One rainy morning, I hiked with my father and our friends up to the Skyview Tower. On the way back down, we stopped to rest in one of the "Summerhouse" gazebos that Mohonk has set up along the cliffs. This one is built on a rock that slopes outward toward the cliff. When I got up from the bench, I slipped under and fell 40 feet. I should have died. Instead, I spent five weeks in traction for broken bones, and then months in a body cast, as I healed from the accident. I had to learn to walk again. What changes did the ownership make to address the safety issue? None. I was shocked to return to the very same gazebo, and see it unchanged. The ownership obviously prefers to keep its trademark Summerhouses as they are -- death traps -- rather than sacrifice some aesthetic purity to prevent children from getting hurt or worse. It was difficult walking the halls of the resort and seeing portraits of the celebrated Smiley family. These are obviously uncaring people. During the entirety of my months-long recovery (I missed almost a year of school), never once did they reach out to see how I was doing or to express sympathy. I don't know whether or not other children have been hurt since then. I am sure the resort won't publicize that information. But that even one child could have a life-threatening accident, for most businesses that would be enough to make some sort of adjustment for safety. It is truly shocking that Smiley Brothers has done nothing. When you visit Mohonk, you put yourself in the hands of a reckless business, and you put your children in terrible danger.

This review is long overdue. My surprise birthday stay at Mohonk Mountain House was all kinds of awesomeness. I am one lucky girl! I know. My S/O couldn't have picked a better place to take me to celebrate. It's unreal that a place this beautiful is located right here in the states. Trust me when I say that pictures nor videos do this place justice. The place is huge and secluded up on a mountain. The drive from the gate to the house alone is a 2-mile drive. If you want an out-of-this-world experience due yourself a favor and visit. The architecture is insane! Like who thought to design something so magnificent? Despite the full carpeted floors, it doesn't smell stale or like long-stored musty coats. They do a great job keeping things immaculately clean. Considering the pandemic restrictions, I can't imagine how MMH could've been better aside from a longer stay. I would love to go back and experienced it all over. They offer plenty of activities to keep people busy. We kayaked, canoed, swam in the heated indoor pool, learned to fish (something I found fun and been wanting to do for ages), took tennis lessons, played archery, and watched Frankenstein under the stars. Don't even get me started on the food. Everything was delicious, to say the least. * Super cool to learn that my favorite show filmed here: BIllions.

First day here. Valet staff is super wonderful. But noise is loud and chaotic and it doesn't feel very restful like a spa should . Fitness classes are terrible- you shouldn't expect to get a good workout in. And you can't expect them to give you the class that was posted. The yoga instructor decides that she is going to do the class listed and does something entirely different. Also they have very few classes here when compared to Canyon Ranch. If you are looking for a restful and relaxing vacation "away from the real world " DO NOT GO HERE. Go to Canyon Ranch in Lennox , MA. They have a significantly greater array of fitness classes and spa treatments. And it feels like a spa should - relaxing, peaceful, quiet... Also the rooms are old, and the food selection is not very varied. Definitely not as good as Canyon Ranch. Only positives are valet staff and location - it is pretty here!

Everything was amazing. We stayed there for our 40th wedding anniversary. We found a lovely note and a bottle of wine waiting for us in our room. The atmosphere is gorgeous, the service impressive. Everyone greeted us with a smile and seemed to want to insure our stay was perfect. The meals were delicious as well. A special sound out to Max, who always seemed to be around when we had a question.

it's an all inclusive location. it's not near anything. you'd have to drive about 20 minutes to town. But they have almost everything you need including a doctor (who actually needed). if we had young children, we would've given this location of five due to all the free outdoor activities available. we very much enjoyed the hiking, canoeing, dining, swimming, ambiance, service and amenities

How a manager at Mohonk Mountain House, ruined our day with his rude manner and arrogance A warning to anyone who wants to visit this place and expects decent customer service What happened * My son and his girlfriend decided to visit Mohonk Mountain House for a date. My son also planned his proposal during this trip, he booked a dinner event and worked with an event planner for the proposal ideas. The event planner was very helpful. * The issue happened when we arrived in the morning, we were greeted properly but the assigned person (Diane) who was supposed to help us with the proposal setup was not there, after 30 min searching, we were told Diane was not available and there was no backup plan. Well, that's a shock with only less than 90 min to the planned proposal time. So, we called for the manager's help. This kind of outage was totally not acceptable and Diane is not a reliable professional (or even qualified as the professional). * Brian who claimed to be the manager showed up. He looked at us with disdain and he had no idea what's going on and no patience to listen to our story. He apologized but no eye contact with an arrogant look like "why are you guys bothering me". * He then made a few useless comments but was still not willing to patiently listen to us as every time we started the conversation, he became very defensive, and he'd interrupted us to tell us we were not right and repeated saying "how I can help". Well, that's exactly what we wanted to tell him the whole story and the plan if he just kept his mouth shut and listened. The worst came when my wife made her attempt to tell Brian the plan and Brian's face turned very annoyed because by then he probably couldn't figure out how to help us and he could not think of any good excuses not to help us. Then he just walked away when my wife was still talking to him. Really? Is this Mohonk's new standard for customer service? Brian was not just arrogant, he was also very rude to a lady. * While Brian was gone, another nearby hotel guy Alec stepped in as he saw our frustration and offered his help, he put on a nice smile and very patiently listened to our story and the plan and walked with us to the planned proposal path. Alec then helped us with the photo spots and hiding spots and also volunteered to stay with us the entire time to help. Alec was super helpful and he really saved this important event! The evening dinner was also good. Mohonk is a nice place for events and most people are nice and great, but we know one bad apple spoils the bunch and Brian is one big bad apple, Brian must be removed if Mohonk wants to continue offering their premium event venue and services as Brian's clueless, helpless, rude and arrogant personality has no place in the Hospitality industry (or any industries).

At a staggering $800 a night during the holiday season this place is a difficult choice to commit to! Given the price, you do get a ton of amenities and all meals are included. The food is high end & amazing, they have their own wine sommelier to get an idea on it. You get access to some of the prime areas of Catskill mountains where century+ old money has historically gone to get escape from the city. Alot of history is tied up to the Mohonk and they purposely leave as much of the history intact as they can. The setting and architecture is why you come, it feels a bit like a Harry Potter film when you arrive. Wood fire places in the rooms that come with ton of attendants, hiking trails, amazing pool area, and activities are riddled through out the day. I can't justify the $800+ price, but I can say this place is absolutely unique with a lot beauty and charm, you can value the food alone for a pair is worth above 300-400 for a day. It's a great place to celebrate a milestone or run off to for a romantic getaway.

I wanted to plan a short trip for some hiking and outdoor time after the long winter and this was a perfect resort choice. The hotel offers several packages and weekend wellness events, but I choose a mid-week hotel plan. I did this for two reasons. One because there were additional discounts on the room rate. Two because this was my first hotel stay since the pandemic and I thought a mid-week stay would have slightly less guests as compared to a weekend. I chose wisely. There were less guests which made me feel comfortable being away from home and plenty of outdoor activities organized by the hotel. The hotel was well prepared for guests and I did not feel uncomfortable at any time. The staff all wore masks. There were hand washing and sanitizing stations all over the resort house. Housekeeping was available upon request. The room was only cleaned if you put out the door sign indicating service was required. Valet service is currently unavailable but this was actually not a problem. Guests could unload and load baggage at the bell stand and then self park. The hotel also offered a shuttle service to take you to your car if you were parked in one of the more distant lots. In my opinion, the hotel handled the pandemic changes well without making the guest feel like they were missing out on service. I loved the resort house. It has a retro feel with plenty of wood furnishings and cozy reading nooks which I thought were charming. I felt like I was visiting an old friend and staying at her mountain home for a few days. There were plently of balconies for viewing the mountains. I especially loved the porch rocking chairs! The room was furnished in a way which made me feel like a house guest instead of a hotel guest. I did think it odd that there was no TV in the room. The hotel does have wifi so I just streamed the news. I can see this as a possible problem for someone with kids but honestly I was not inconvenienced by the lack of TV. The main reason for my hotel choice was the many hiking trails available at the resort. I am not an experienced hiker but had no trouble navigating the trails, paths and roads for hiking. I mainly hiked on the easy/moderate trails which were gravel paths with some inclines. The resort has what they call rock scrambles which are designed for more experienced individuals and require you to use hands and feet to climb the path. I did not choose any of these trails but they did look like they would be fun for someone who was more active. Maybe I'll try these next time?!?! Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the resort and would highly recommend it for families or anyone who needs an outdoor getaway.

Beautiful scenery for hiking and to enjoy mother nature. The hike was very enjoyable and a workout. Could definitely cover 10+ miles from the parking lot to the Mountain House. Though there were some confusion in terms of what is allowed for parking and what wasn't. But there were lots of assistant across the mountain to provide help and guidance The scenery is so good to enjoy : )

Review is towards day pass hiking. First of all has to be online, no cash, and u find out when u get there making a long time to pay for entrance. Price is now 35$ per person. Just to walk the 2 miles trail, it get longer if you do the Rocky trails. For all the money they charge we found a lot of time no able to find good making arrows where to continue . They really can used some cans of paint and redo the marking better. Rocky trail are extreme and for skinnier people and in good shape. The rest has road trails and walk ones. I saw bicycle too. View are great. U ain't aloud to enter the hotel area. Just hiking trails. I found it very expensive. The rest is great with benches around trails to sit down.

The customer support agent tried to overcharge me. I called on morning of August 20th to book for a group of around 12 adults and a kid. Shouldve been around $1300-1400. He said $1400-1500. I was like, that doesnt seem right, should be less than 1400. Can u give me the breakdown and the tax rate? He gave me an attitude, saying that he already gave me the total, that there's no need to do the math. I was like ok, so I moved on and I asked him a question about parking and stuff, and he CONTINUED with his attitude so I said I will call back again and hung up. I called again and some lady picked up and we bought the tickets for $1300ish, not 1400-1500. TLDR: Guy tried to overcharge me and gave me an attitude when I questioned him? Threw the vibe of the trip off for me.

Ugh. Mohonk has such potential but it's just AWFUL now. The place is in a sad state of disrepair, awnings are ripped, windows are dirty, trash peppers the abundant grounds. Was here 4 years ago for a family reunion - it rained every day for a week so the lake activities were closed but the food was plentiful and available, the kids kept busy scrambling up hiking trails and searching for critters and our rooms were nice enough to retreat to. Cut to now: here with my 84 year old mom for 10 days and to say it's awful is being nice. From the moment we arrived into the utter chaos and ineptitude of the front desk to our fireplace-smoke filled rooms (in July) to the NO BREAD AT LUNCH rule in full effect (despite having servers go to the trouble of setting every table with bread and butter plates) I was ready to peel out of the driveway and head home. A place can only get so far on its fabled history and fantastic setting/scenery. They need to return to their culinary roots and upgrade the rooms already! When paying $895 a night you should be able to expect a semi decent place to lay your head. Also, if the staff was great, none of these things would matter as much but, with the exception of the archery/axe throwing guy, they're not. Grouchy, mopey, "it's not my job, man" people who never smile. Where is Mr. Roark when you need him? When we spoke to Guest Relations all we got in response was a lot of pass the buck and blaming it all on Covid. (Insert eye roll here). I doubt the Smiley twins are smiling.

I absolutely love it here! I've come here for dinner, to use the spa and to rock climb and cross country ski. It's a great place to visit if you love the mountains, the outdoors and great views. I'll definitely be back again soon for more trails!

The resort has gone totally downhill since COVID. The food is no better than diner food. The service staff do not seem happy, and it is evidenced by the quality of the service. The hallways are dingy and the carpets are old and musty. The facilities are old and stodgy. If the weather is bad, there is nothing to do. Further, management is blind to mohonk's shortcomings. I recently went to woodloch for a weekend and was wowed by the difference - woodloch is sleek and modern, and the food is of a totally different level. While the grounds are nice, Mohonk is way overpriced for what they offer.

Very disappointing experience! The rooms are drab and outdated. The bed was uncomfortable. The staff from beginning to end is entirely unhappy, unfriendly, and give a pretty miserable vibe. The house/hotel feels depressing and somewhat resembles a senior facility. The food is very average and the dinning room is large and somewhat chaotic. There are couches throughout to sit but in the morning the room on the first floor hadn't been cleaned and there were dirty glasses in the room. Same with the porch. The grounds are pretty but the exorbitant price they charge in no way is justified. Way overpriced! Absolutely not worth the price. Better to get a day pass if you want to take a walk.

What a cool experience. I did the horseback riding class, took hikes, celebrated and tried to explore the grounds fully. The staff are incredibly nice and the property has so much to explore. I especially liked the breakfast early in the morning where you can sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the lake. Lots of serenity but I wouldn't recommend coming here if you mind being around kids. Sign up early for the classes because some fill up quickly like archery. This was honestly the biggest ripoff ever. The word here is "EXTRA". It is a problem that plagues the so-called all inclusive places. Anything you actually want to do is probably extra and the extra is also additionally taxed. Not for me. I don't mind spending money on a really amazing place, but this is simply not my idea of amazing.

This review is for the spa and a meal at the carriage house. I booked a massage for my moms birthday. I highly recommend coming early and spending the entire day. There's so much to explore! I loved my facial- highly recommend. We ate at the carriage house which is more of a bar/ lounge that is separate from their main dining area but it was fantastic!!! I can't say enough about the food. The burger was delicious, the bread was piping hot, and the service was fantastic!!

Absolutely beautiful grounds and a great place to spend a day! I love sitting on the rocking chairs on the porch, swimming, kayaking or paddle boarding on the lake, or hiking the Skytop Path or Lemon Squeeze Labyrint/Rock Scramble to get to the most beautiful view in the area! I've never felt the need to stay overnight, but have accessed the grounds many times for day passes. if you're willing to splurge a bit, I highly recommend any service at the spa- you get access to a beautiful and relaxing solarium and a mineral pool! I love to book a brunch buffet there for a special occassion and simply walk around the rest of the day. Definitely check it out when the tulips are in bloom in springtime!

I love the place, not first time here. Always nice food and good hiking in any weather. But very disappointed this year, maybe because epidemic, maybe because they really changed maintenance rules. No big Christmas tree like always, in Maine dinning room!! No ball dancing on Christmas night!!! No worm water in the pool!!! No small present on the door handle , they always do before!!! Person on the front desk not helpful!!! And last thing look like they not care about Christmas anymore. Piano lady with plastic box and backpack??? Mohonok please stay classy like your grands were

Not quite the old school charm I was looking for... the outside scenery is great-love it! The way the grounds and buildings have been maintained a shame. This place needs an infusion of new money and life to make it the destination resort it once was. Let's just start with just basic landscaping... you walk out from the spa and your in the weeds. Bathrooms off the beach are for glorified camping but resort style! The rooms are historically charming and it's a must to have a lake view! No TVs in the room... bathrooms are tight. Bed was comfortable. Fireplace in the room was a nice touch. The meals were included and again sound great but lack luster on taste and completion. Service was kind. Overall- needs improvement but opportunities are there - visit for one night just to see the history and the scenery when you can get a discount on a room.
