My wife and I really stumbled across this place as we were literally staying in the next door resort and having experienced the quality and standards exhibited in the cuisine and the service from the staff, we will be making a return visit before we depart Phu Quoc.
I hope anyone reading this, might be tempted to visit the Spice House and if so I hope you leave as satisfied as what we both were.
When we first walked into the internal dining area of the restaurant it was empty and so we were a little apprehensive but that was swept away by the greeting received from the staff and as we passed through to the external dining area it must have been 80 to 90% occupied, with no tables left poolside.
We ordered a cocktail each of a Pina Colada and a Mai Tai.
The menu was mouthwatering and my wife almost instantly opted for the mackerel ceviche served with some restaurant made tortilla chips and I eventually opted for the Golden fried rolls served with some salad and dipping sauce, we were served some restaurant prepared brown bread which was of a very good quality.
We were going to follow this with a fruit and fish salad but as we only said we wanted a light meal the waiter considered we might have been over ordering, so we simply shared the Khmer coconut fish with a small steamed rice, washed down with a bottle of still water and a very nice bottle of white wine, which we were allowed to sample, along with one other, before deciding.
We were enjoying ourselves and the atmosphere so much that we had to stay longer so I treated myself to a Crème brule which we followed with coffee and a liqueur.
We cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed our evening at the Spice House, it really should have been far busier given the all round quality, we guess it was quiet because you don’t walk past it like the street lined places, you might even think it was a restaurant solely for residents, but it isn’t, sure it is not a cheap indulgence compared to the majority of the street lined pack them in serve them quick places that abound in this area of Phu Quoc, our food order cost us 904,000Vnd about £26.00 this was obviously increased by the cocktails at 225,000Vnd each or £6.40 each and the Sicilian wine at 1,000,000Vnd about £28.50
We sincerely hope that the Spice House gains greater recognition than the current rating as it is most is deserved
