After reading the reviews on here I thought that The Spot Lounge & Bar would be a great destination to visit while celebrating my 25th birthday in Houston. Unfortunately for my group, there were several things wrong here.
-It is a really small storefront club
-They did not check anyone coming in, which made one of my friends uncomfortable. I, however, assumed that an older crowd would not be drama filled.
-It took a while to get the attention of the bartenders.
-The drinks were really strong, which is good, but it did not have a good taste. It was basically a shot. So you get a lot of alcohol for your money, but they do not mix the drinks well. The drinks were also not too expensive, which is good as well.
-The patrons at the bar appeared to have attitudes. I assume it is because we were obviously not locals, but I am not sure. I did, however, notice a lot of rude stares, especially when my friend asked two ladies if they were ordering. They took offense to his question and responded that they were with a negative attitude. But they were merely talking and never ordered anything from the bar. WHY ARE YOU SALTY?
-The music was HORRIBLE. But maybe it was just local Houston music. There was not a mix of music, as mentioned in some of these reviews. If you like the slow-paced Houston rap, this place is for you. The songs were not fast enough to dance to, and not many people were dancing.
-The DJ was rude! I went up to request a song. Before I could say anything, he got on the microphone yelling that he was off, which confused me. Why are you making an announcement when I approached you? I was still standing there waiting for him to speak with me directly, but he instead got back onto the mic saying that he was off and not being paid (or something like that).
Maybe The Spot is fun and welcoming for people from Houston, but it was not for people visiting Houston. The drinks were nasty, although strong, and the DJ was an asshole. We left The Spot and went to a place called D Bar down the street. Luckily for us, D Bar played a LOT of Louisiana music and had a much more inviting crowd and DJ.
I would not recommend the spot for someone visiting Houston, this place is for the locals who can recognize one another.
